Nope. No way to have missed call/ text message on the outer display more than 1 minute. That's why I didn't get this phone.

Never had a 720 so can't compare to the 265. That said, I've been very pleased with the battery life. Aside from the smallish screen it's a really great phone. You won't be sorry if you get it.

The 265 has significantly stronger RF. I can place and receive calls places where I got no signal on the 6100. I tested them back-to-back. The 265 blew the 6100 away. Apples and oranges here my friend. The 265 is CDMA for VZW. The 551 is GSM for the T-Mobiles and Cingulars of the world. No system will offer both phones. The 551s bluetooth would be nice BUT then you have to have a GSM carrier. Personally, I think that VZW offers the best coverage and superior voice fidelity and recption. But, that's me.

If you are dropping calls alot the 6100 won't be any better. For me, the reception and abiliy to hold calls was a major disappointment of the 6100. I just switched my 6100 for a Moto 265. While certainly not as beutiful a phone it is great as far as superior RF (reception.) Why not check it out? You have a 15 day trial period with all VZW phones. Your only issue with the 265 might be its smallish ...

Re: Looking for Verizon V810
Jan 16, 2005, 12:47 PM

The v810 while having a great form and build factor is nonetheless way overrated IMHO. I had one with VZW software and was still disappointed with the RF and call quality. I ended up selling mine. To be honest it certainly wasn't worth what I was able to sell it for. A couple of things to remember. You will never ever be able to get a software upgrade for it as VZW never took the phone. Also, it is ...

Fincher, I'm with you on that. The conclusion I came to is that it needed a software revision. Just like most phones do after introduction. But, since VZW never took on this phone there would obviously never be one for my VZW version of the 810. That played a huge role in my decision to unload it. Also, it did have a nasty habit of going into analog and refusing to go back into digital without a reboot (again ...

Quite honestly, IMHO, the v810 is not as great as some posts would have you believe. The phone has been around for awhile so the technology is almost 2 years old. The RF is good not great. And always a bit of static in bakground. The small form factor is a plus. The OLED is way too small and is essntially useless, especially in sunlight I had one with VZW software and sold it. No regrets.

What Makes People Think There Is Going to be a Firmware Update?

The way I see it phone models come and go so fast now that manufacturers have very little motivation to spend time and resources for firmware updates for phones already out there. They'll just fix the software for the next release of a newer phone model. Opinions?

I'm sure VZW will disable most of this. Their business plan is to diable any features that can result in "revenue leakage." What that means is they will force you to use GIN and their other products/services.

Just got back from the VZW store. I tested the v265 and 6100 back-to-back - they let you make free calls on each model. This is as good a test as I can think of as the reception at the stores is typically excellent. The 6100 had much better sound quality and earpiece volume. Just select "Force Mode" press [OK] select "CDMA" and press [OK] then [End} If you don't like it you can always switch it back to the original default setting "Automatic" ...
