End of net neutrality, higher prices and cut backs in service levels to Americans. But what do you expect AT&T to do? They only received a 50% tax rate decrease this year.

in the Article: Verizon Debuts Discounted iPhone Promo forum

Verizon rarely ever has a good promotion for existing customers who wish to get a new phone. There is always some catch - new line required, and/or trade in. They get away with this because there is not a lot of competition for unlocked phones (most lack CDMA) and they do some odd things on their network that prevents unlocked phones from behaving properly with some of their services like WiFi calling and MMS/Text messaging. ...

What a scam, impose a new limit on unlimited plans charge $ 10 to get your old service
Oct 30, 2017, 12:18 AM
in the Article: Verizon to Let Subscribers Stream HD Video for Another $10 forum

So we buy a plan from Verizon, they impose a new limitation on that plan, and then offer the ability to remove the new limitation for more money. What a rip off. Here is a concept, we get some people to run the FCC that actually insure that communications companies operate in a fair and competitive way.

Well it's really $ 110 + $ 20 per line, + fees. There are no corporate discounts on this plan. Now there is also a tmobile plan that is a fair amount less expensive that includes HD video and the same tethering. It also has no additional taxes or fees. So if you are good with the Tmobile coverage its a less expensive alternative. Still this is a nice ...

Lets see what the fine print says. For example is the cost for a limited time only and they will jack up the prices. If its really $100 + 20 per line that would be the best multi-line plan in the industry. I would be surprised if they actually offered the best pricing in the industry without a serious catch, like the price is only good for a year, or you have ...

Unless you are on a really tight budget, consider the standard (not play) version
Sep 6, 2016, 10:13 AM
in the Article: Motorola to Sell Moto G4 Play Starting Sept. 15 forum

The play version comes with a smaller lower res screen, lacks the quick charger, and has a less capable CPU. The standard G4 is a signifant step up, it does coat a bit more though.

I think it will have a charger, just not a charger with rapid charge capability.

No headphone jack = non starter
Jul 23, 2016, 2:21 PM
in the Article: Review: Motorola Z Droid, Z Force Droid for Verizon Wireless forum

This obsession with making phones thinner at the expense of functionality has gone another step with the elimination of the headphone jack. They already have to have a bulge near the top of the phone for the camera, why not extend that enough to have the headphone jack? Give me a phone that is 1/3 thicker for 2x the battery life anytime. Too much vanity over functionality!

No Compass

These phones lack a compass. Apps needing it will not work, and others that make use of a compass will be less responsive.

Rollover method not customer friendly
Jul 10, 2016, 4:37 PM
in the Article: Verizon Wireless Debuts New My Verizon App and Plan forum

The plans should use rollover minutes first then monthly allotment. They have you using your minutes before your rollover minutes minutes kick in. So basically any month you use an amount equal to your allotment you end up with no carryover regardless of how little you use in previous months. The method they use minimizes customer value. It is better than what they had, but not as good as it should ...

Note that the data is not shared, it is strictly 2.5GB LTE per phone, not a bucket like the other carriers. Also LTE allowance goes down by more than half in less than 1.5 years. This is not exactly "UN-carrier" to promote this as equivalent. Yes there are advantages, including music streaming and overseas 2G data, but most users are going to read 10GB and four lines and not realize that this is a ...

An annoying drawback of this phone (true for all carriers)
Jul 22, 2012, 8:08 PM
in the Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon) forum

What is it with these new phones lacking an HDMI port? My HTC phones and Motorola phones had one. Even my year old Samsung Droid has one. On the Galaxy S III (like the Galaxy S II) they require a dongle to convert Micro USB, and then you need a special one so that you can power the phone because you used the port. Even more annoying is that ...

Rich Brome said: There's a lot more than just the SIM card and chipset. Most chipsets in most phones have some level of "support" for a hundred or more features that may not be implemented in that particular phone. There are also radio chips and antennas that need to be added; all kinds of extra parts and engineering that go into it. It's not at all like Sprint could flip a switch or add one part to enable GSM. Shouldn't add to data use when you pay
Mar 29, 2012, 6:26 PM
in the Article: T-Mobile Offering New Mobile TV Content Packages forum

When you pay a carrier for a streaming service that uses a lot of bandwidth, using that service should be exempted from data usage. A lot of people will chew up their high speed data limits when using a service like this and then be stuck on 2G, or worse use it when roaming and be cut off from network data entirely for the duration of the billing cycle.

The ports on the side of the phone are a bad idea! It doesn't work with the kick stand I'd you have it on the charger. Can you use the dock without tether charge
Jul 29, 2011, 9:51 AM

When I saw the Atrix (AT&T) I liked the dock concept, enabling big keyboard screen support. However they won't let you use the dock without paying for tethering on AT$T. Which seems like a rip off since you are not sharing data with an external device only controlling your local one with a more accessible input device and screen. I wonder if Sprint will allow the dock on the standard plan (naturally with our ...

Looks like a winner. We have the XPRT which runs well. Questions will be: Battery life? (way to short on my EVO) Will it be better at WIMAX (bad on my EVO and a battery killer when the phone is searching for a WIMAX signal, whereas the Verizon charge LTE works consistently and doesn't kill the battery)? Does it actually have GSM 1800? (not listed on the Motorola website specifications page but shown on Phonescoop.)

Just got and XPRT tonight to replace a Hero. This phone is Sprints version of the Droid Pro. From some brief testing it looks like this phone is NOT SIM locked. These are not bad phones, if you are looking for a powerful phone that is flip phone sized. If you watch the industry as a whole it is getting more expensive everyday. Customers are using more Data but the industry is fueling it, with a barrage of adds touting high bandwidth applications like streaming media and really fast networks. Dec 8, 2010, 5:07 PM
in the Palm Pre 2 (GSM) forum

They should put in WCDMA, 1700 and 2100 on these phones so they are 3G word wide. I think that At&t has this done intentionally. I wish the FTC would mandate that carriers who charge a ETF have to unlock the phones after 90 days free of charge and that if the carrier asks the manufacturer to produce a phone that locks out competitive bands that this be considered anti-trust. We have enough phones ...

I think that it is about the same. It lacks a 7 day display with the event titles, only has busy blocks. The one on the motorola droid is better it shows event titles in 7 day view. Lets look at this with some balance. While I plan on getting an EVO some things not all that black and white. 1. No way tethering is going to be free, it isn't on any sprint "phone". Some people do it, by hacking (they can be tossed, or charged) and some pay for it, no one gets it sanctioned for free. 2. It will be interesting to see how good the flash support is before just declaring "mission accomplished". 3. We ...
