I guess the only part I missed was Apple trying to expose all of the other smartphones antenna weaknesses.

Apple is going to smooth this all over tomorrow morning. They are going to offer free bumpers for iPhone 4 owners, and announce the release date for the white version. All will be forgotten and Apple will be on top of the world.
I don't think this is "the right solution" but consumers are going to be more than satisfied with it.

Although I'm actually SHOCKED this is true - it makes "contracts" and "early upgrade eligibility" completely obsolete!

Agreed.
By reading justfinethanku's post, all I can think is that he is a blinded with Apple love or works for Apple. I can't understand for the life of me how any consumer that did or potentially was going to buy the iphone 4 isn't disappointed with what has been going on.
The phone has several phenomenal features, but it also has a MAJOR flaw and even worse, Apple does not care to do anything about it.
Bumpers
Has anyone actually confirmed that the $30 rubberbands aka Bumpers fix the death grip signal issue?
If so does it completely fix the issue or does it help but not 100% fixed?

I appreciate you seeing both sides - but how is this a good phone? It has some great features don't get me wrong, but the phone itself drops calls when held incorrectly and nothing is going to be done about it? Are you kidding me?
As a "phone", it's below average at best. Even the earpiece volume is weak and the speakerphone is obsolete unless you're in complete silence... unless they fixed the speakerphone in ...

I totally agree with you. As you admitted with the Droid, I'm sort of the same way with the iPhone, a fanboy. To me, there was no other phone that compared over the last few years - but the way that Apple is handling this is obnoxious - like we are all idiots.
.. And what is almost more annoying is that iPhone fans are eating it up and taking it straight up the a$$! (excuse my french) ...

Yeah, actually I've owned every model so far and was waiting for the white one to come out - but I am definitely hesitating now. If they don't do something by the time the white comes out, I'm not sure I'm buying it anymore.
The 3GS is a better phone and does basically everything the 4 does. I save $300 + 2 yr contract and sacrifice a better camera and "face time" which only works on ...

It's interesting that you mention this, because I haven't heard anyone mentioning free bumpers .. I thought that was my genius idea and that it is the least they can do for the unhappy customers.
But I didn't even think of the angle that you mentioned, about implied admission of a design flaw.

I agree with you on it being a little over the top, and mention that in my original response. Simply returning the phone will solve many peoples problems but I list 2 situations in which I can see the customer having more ground to stand on in terms of suing although I don't completely agree with it. But if I was in one or both of these situations, I'd be pissed too!!

True they didn't force them to, but they did falsely promote a product to encourage people switch to AT&T
If they advertised the phone as having a faulty antenna (instead of doing the opposite), as well as limited quantities on the launch date, as well as no white version until a month later - people wouldn't have as much to complain about.

You make a good point, although isn't that the job of the company who is hyping this phone as the phone that "Changes Everything. Again". If it was the first of its products, I'd say you have a valid point - but this is the 4 generation :)

At first I was thinking the same thing - they can just return it... but then I was thinking, depending on how these people purchased the phone, they might actually have a right to sue. For example:
1) If they didn't pre-order and waited in a stupid line over night, taking a day or two off of work...
or
2) If they paid to cancel an old contract with another provider (early termination fee) to switch to come to AT&T ...

I too am waiting on the white one, but I hardly doubt the signal/antenna issue will be fixed considering they are making them now and their response to the problems.
They basically said any cell phone has reception issues if held a certain way - oh yeah, and they also said to go buy one of their $30 bumpers (aka a colored rubberband) and it will negate this antenna problem.

How can Apple/AT&T not release a statement about the white phone?
I don't understand how Apple or AT&T has not yet released a statement clarifying all the confusion about the white iphone 4 release? What's the hold up, several of us are disappointed, why can't they inform us?
Sources are saying a number of different responses. I've heard:
1) a smaller number of white phones will be available on the day of the launch
2) production issue, they won't be ready until "late summer"
3) won't be ready on day of launch ...
iPhone or AT&Ts fault?
First off, I'm very happy with my phone. This is just something that has peaked my interest.
The speaker phone quality on the iphone has always been average at best... is this the iphones fault or at&ts call quality?

Update, so I was able to restore to a more recent version - All of my contacts, photos, notes, calendar items are up to date, which is most important.
My new problems are:
1. Missing Voice Memo icon. When I search for it, it comes up, but the shortcut does not exist (yes Ive scrolled over to the other screens)
2. All of my apps are gone, even when I search for them.
Any ideas? So weird. Restore from 6/17 ...
iPhone 3GS didn't restore to latest version?
I just bought the 3GS (upgrading from the 3G) and when I came home to restore to latest settings, it restored to a very old version.
I did notice that the drop down menu of what to restore had two options but they were the same name "iPhone" ... maybe I chose the wrong one?
I still have my 3G available, how can I update my 3GS to look like my 3G? Any help highly appreciated. thanks

Password protected icons/apps (thoughts?)
Am I the only one that thinks this would be a very valueable tool?
For example, being able to password protect an app or icon like your notes, calendar, mail, photos, txt messages... nothing major, just to be able to apply a 4 digit code like the unlocking of the phone.

Will I lose my contacts (viper help)?
I sync'd my iphone last night, but I'm not sure if that included my contacts.
I am already at work(away from my itunes) and plan to go to get my phone soon.
If I buy and they activate the new phone at the store, what happens to my old phone? Will I still be able to get contacts/data off of it just incase it wasn't included in my sync?
