That would be the V400p. The original V400 is not PTT. That's where the confusion lies.

One of the local VZW managers just came over from running an AT&T store, she's sharp & knows what the hell she's doing. When I met her, I asked her what was up with AT&T, and she told me that Chris Corrado singlehandedly destroyed AT&T worker morale.

If anybody out there has a PC3220 aircard & a laptop running Win98SE, I can clue you in on how to get it running. I recently had an experience with this combination, and getting it to work was not pretty. It works now, but it took nearly a solid week of fiddling before I managed to get it together.

Why would you want to do that?!? Asurion makes you fill out a police report if it's a lost/stolen situation. That's a right royal pain in the ass. Just put the damn phone in the little prepaid envelope they give you, mail it back.

Gotta love the bastards at Bell Labs. Evil, soulless men they are... Actually, my grandmother had a rotary-dial phone leased from AT&T that she'd had ever since her & grampa built their house in the late '40s. I sat down with her & calculated exactly how much she'd spent in lease payments over the past 60 years... then took her to Target & bought her a nice push-button cordless phone, got her Touch-Tone service. You'd have thought I bought her ...

Those Cellebrites aren't cheap, I think on the order of $1500 or so, but they work like a mofo, and if you're an indirect, co-op will pay for one. The thing is, the device itself has a limited number of uses, and the dealer has to pay to get it reset every so often. I did an informal poll of dealers in my area, and they do it free if you buy a new phone from them, but charge ...

Yeah, I thought it was the same, too. I'm assuming that the bill Ducatiboy got was for the first months' service, and that they'll prorate it. I know VZW just makes you pay for airtime used, not the whole thing.

I'd guess they're pretty much equal, at least in terms of POPs covered. How does the Cingular plan match up price-wise with the NSR? I'm just curious. I personally like the NSR plan, we sell a bunch of 'em to truckers & the like. Not so good on the airtime, but hey, at least it works where you need it to.

Personally, I have NO idea why a tech would want to switch to sales (I'm in the process of moving in the opposite direction, heh), BUT... I've worked for Radio Crack, Sprint & Verizon. The 'Crack sucked donkeys. I hated the job, my idiot co-workers, my evil lying sack-of-**** boss, the customers, the junk I HAD to sell... I could go on ad nauseam. Sprint was marginally better. At least I was dealing solely with phones. The customers were still pretty bad, ...

The only problem I've had is with Nextel ports. Every one I've done (about 10) has fallen out. The first few were my fault, because I wasn't clear on exactly what VZW needed from the Nextel customers, but then it seemed like they were all going to crap. I had one lady who it took almost 4 days for the port to finalize. At least she was cool about it. Cingular, AT&T & T-Mobile have been no problem. Centennial ...

Word. In the past two years that I've worked for VZW, I've seen the non-program situation happen exactly three times. Twice, a local RAdio Smack employee forgot to program the handsets, and then the customer came to us to fix it, and then once I saw a fellow employee complete a sale, hand the customer the phone, and we both watched the customer walk out. Aha. I think you're right. I needed to look at that again. One other thing that drives me nuts is that sometimes salespeople don't tell the customers that in order to get a NE2 on a secondary line, the secondary price plan must be $39.99 or higher. I've been seeing it more & more lately, people expect the NE2 on a $20 shareplan, and it's just not gonna happen, folks. You can get the 2-year pricing, but not the ...

I think there might be a problem with the way the NE2 date didn't get carried over properly, but that's what you get for trying to work the system that way. Last month, between my VZW-issued handset & my personal phone, I burned 2100 peak & 3200 offpeak. Not a WHOLE lot, I know, but 1600 :o text messages is a lot. Slightly over 53 per day. You sure you racked up 2000 minutes in less than 24 hours? I just ask because according to my calculations, 24 hours X 60 minutes =1440 minutes... :D That's a neat trick. 8O You might wanna call CC and have them add the $44.99 unlimited PDA feature to your calling plan. That way you get unlimited Nat'l Access & your voice minutes will be left alone. It's an expensive fix, I think, unless you're a power user, and I'm ...

I'm not really sure what causes it. What it seems like to me is this: The phone is still streaming data (in my case, text message) to the tower. Since the phone will use the same channel to call, it has to wait until the channel is cleared of the text message before it can initiate the voice call. If you dial out before, the processor sees that the link is still in use & fails the call. I did ...

How's about the world-famous S/E T61, as envisioned by VZW??? Now THERE was a quality paperweight. MD, pretty much any Sanyo phone was awesome. The 4500 was a bit squirrely, but the 4700/4900/4920 line has been really good.

Oh, OK. Like I said, sometimes it's hard to tell, especially in this particular forum. 8O When I had a T720, your problem happened to me all the time. I am frequently talking on one handset while text-messaging on another, or talking on two handsets at once. I'm sure I'll have a tumor the size of a grapefruit in 20 years. You're welcome, BTW. In the Northeast corridor it might not be all that important to have a trimode, unless you were going waaaaaay out into the boonies, Deer Hunter-style. VZW was formed from NYNEX & Bell Atlantic Mobile, so they have all the old towers, plus a ton on new ones, I'm sure. On phones, I can suggest a couple of things. From low-end to high-end, I suggest: 1. Nokia 3589i. Trimode, great signal strength. Durable - I sell these to a couple of ...

The latest software (8610_02.0F.03) seems to work well. Make sure you have that release under Settings-Phone Status-Other Info-Software. The charging port thing is a running problem, it's not a very good design IMHO, almost as bad as the Nokia 5100 series with the adapter to hook a headset in... Otherwise, it's a solid phone. I like it. My T720 died over the weekend, and I'm using a V60s & a Timeport 270c. Best of luck.
