Re: When will GSM be enabled and what about 3G data?

No one knows the date when Verizon will unlock Global Roaming yet. I put a SIM are in from Spain and can verify that it does not currently work.

Verizon's international abilities
Jun 30, 2012, 7:42 PM
in the Samsung Galaxy S III (Verizon) forum

I have been trying to get an answer to this but haven't seen any info online. I know Verizon is promising to update the SGS3 to have global capabilities in the future. I will be spending significant time in Europe where 4G is a ways off, and want to be able to use HSPA+ while I'm there. My understanding is that Verizon's version, once updated, will allow for global roaming but using GSM. My question is this: will the ...

Re: What is the Scoop on Reception?
Feb 10, 2011, 7:46 PM
in the Apple iPhone 4 (CDMA) forum

Respectfully I would say to ignore the reports about the antenna. They are way overblown. I am finding that I have STRONGER reception and MUCH better call quality on my iPhone than I did on on my BB Pearl (and my HTC Incredible, which has poor RF and I would say BAD sound quality). I have not dropped a call yet. I also use one of those little rubber "condoms" (as I call them, hehe) that protect ...

Re: what can the android do that IPhone cant?
Feb 9, 2011, 1:53 PM
in the Apple iPhone 4 (CDMA) forum

I had the same concern myself. I think Google did an excellent job on the voice recognition and mapping/GPS functionality within Android. However, now that I have had my iphone for 2 days, I can tell you that its UI really blows Android away. You can get a similar voice recognition experience on iOS by purchasing an app call Vlingo. It is free, although to compose texts and emails it'll set you back $9.99 (one-time charge). It's a pain to ...

Re: For iPhone
Oct 12, 2010, 2:53 AM
in the Article: Simultaneous Talking and Surfing Being Prepped by Verizon forum

This is SOOO obvious. Steve Jobs probably insisted that the iPhone on CDMA work as it does on GSM, that is, simultaneous voice and data. He would not settle. Recently, the CEO of Verizon was quoted as saying that he expects to get the iPhone "when Verizon earns the right". Well I think (and please don't call me a rumor-monger) that Verizon, by adding this functionality to its network, earns that right in Apple's eyes. The ...

Re: Internet Radio....

in the BlackBerry Pearl 8130 forum

I have your answer. Since I am an Internet broadcaster, being able to listen and monitor my station is a very high priority. I almost did not buy a Blackberry because I had heard they were late to the party in terms of streaming Internet Radio. However, I was wrong. The best solution I have found ... in terms of quality and cost (free!) is using Orb (www.orb.com). Essentially, you set up a PC as a music server. You ...

Re: Horrible Battery Life?

I read somewhere that when charging using the micro to mini-usb adapter, it only half-charges the phone. Before making any judgments, I would charge the phone using an AC adapter.

Weird GSM/2G glitching voice quality
Nov 21, 2007, 3:12 AM
in the Motorola Q Global / Q9h forum

Help! I am a recently converted AT&T customer (having had Verizon for years). I love my Q9 ... but ... I think I have found some kind of glitch with it. I would like to know if this "glitch" is truly a glitch or if it is just to be expected on a GSM (non-3G) network. By the way, I am on my 2nd Q9 and both seemed to have this issue. When I am on a call and 3G is ...

Re: General Questions on Configuration

in the Motorola Q Global / Q9h forum

Answer to #4 Navigate to Task Manager. Add a speed dial entry (i.e. I use the 9 key) to get into it. Then choose the option "Kill" or "Kill All Tasks" to close whatever programs you want. Answer to #5 The best way to preserve battery power is to manually turn off 3G and turn ON Edge. This of course will slow down your internet, but so far, 3G battery life is my only gripe with the phone. Go ...

EDGE vs 3G - streaming dilemma
Nov 7, 2007, 12:12 AM
in the Motorola Q Global / Q9h forum

Hi all, I am very pleased with my Q9 so far, with a few exceptions. Please help me out. I broadcast an Internet radio station that I frequently listen to. I live in a 3G area and the phone defaults to that. The only problem is that battery life is unacceptably bad when streaming my station using 3G compared to using EDGE. However, when I manually select EDGE, incoming calls do not seem to ring the phone. Callers hear 4 ...

Switching between tasks
Oct 31, 2007, 5:50 AM
in the Motorola Q Global / Q9h forum

Well I went to my local AT&T store in Redmond WA and got me a Q9h. I also am on 30-day trial with a Q9m (VZW) and can directly compare them. The Q9h is much snappier, and seems like a more well-rounded device. I also think it looks more professional and business-minded than the Q9m. One question though ... how do you switch between tasks? On the Q9m, if I go into Task Manager, there is a "Switch ...

Re: Lag or no lag?
Oct 30, 2007, 9:54 AM
in the Motorola Q Global / Q9h forum

I am more referring to the general pressing of buttons to dial, as well as pressing the "Start" button to blook at available options. I understand that opening programs can take a few seconds, especially if you have let tasks build up and have not cleared them with Task Manager. On the Verizon Q9M, even just dialing digits can be somewhat laggy.

Lag or no lag?
Oct 30, 2007, 2:55 AM
in the Motorola Q Global / Q9h forum

Hi everyone. I am thinking of doing the unthinkable. After years and years of VZW service, I am thinking of changing to AT&T. I currently have a Q9M phone on VZW but within my 30-day trial period. I really like the phone except for this gosh-darn lag. For those of you who have the Q9 on AT&T, do you experience any lag using this phone? The Q9M has a different underlying platform than the Q9H, and I ...

Re: BLUETOOTH HEADSET PROBLEM
Jun 1, 2006, 10:34 PM
in the Palm Treo 700p forum

I do not own a 700p, but I have owned a 650 and currently own a 700w. I have tried many BT headsets, and I have found that these phones have poor Bluetooth radios in them. I currently use the Plantronics Discovery 640, which, while not static-free, does off the loudest volume of any I have tried. In general, the quality of BT sound in these phones is nowhere near the quality of the Motorola phones I have ...

in the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx forum

Re: your caller ID waiting issue, I have had that same thing happen, but it is sporadic. I believe that Palm and Verizon are aware of this. (Perhaps this will be fixed in a future firmware update.) Since I don't use picture IDs to dial, I cannot comment on the second half of your post.

Voice Command over Bluetooth is not a reality yet on the Treo 700w (nor any Windows Mobile phones that I know of).

Feb 15, 2006, 1:59 AM
in the Palm Treo 700w / 700wx forum

Yes to all of the above. However, the best feature of the 700w is its stability. It is much less prone to soft-reset compared to the 650. I moved from the 650 to the 700w the day it came out, and have not looked back.

Buy the regular Pocket PC version, then look for version 5.2. I believe you'll have to copy the .cab file to your 700w, then perform the 5.2 upgrade. It does work (I am running TomTom on mine as we speak), but it IS a memory hog, and causes some slowness multitasking.

Voice Command is excellent. It is certainly as good as or better than Voice Signal, which I used on my 650. VC supports thinks like "Redial" which VS did not.

Re: EVDO or No EVDO - That is the question
Apr 6, 2005, 10:55 PM
in the Palm Treo 650 (CDMA) forum

I would be surprised if the phone did not come out the 3rd week of April, based on everything I am hearing. However, and I can't believe I am saying this, even if we'd have to wait two more months to have EV-DO incorporated into the 650, it'd be worth it! I agree with the previous post. Now I am wondering if it worth sending back my Sprint Verizonized phone (I am within the 30 days). ...

The Sony Ericcson HBH-660 is also highly regarded, and a lot of people have had success pairing it with the T60, myself included. It also has Caller ID (but the screen is tiny) but you don't have to futz with auto-answer. - Steve

Re: EVDO or No EVDO - That is the question
Apr 6, 2005, 12:42 AM
in the Palm Treo 650 (CDMA) forum

Well, I spoke with another rep, and she now has suggested that EV-DO would not be offered on the 650. She went on to say that her internal literature states that "National Access" is offered with that phone, and she thought that it would say "Broadband Access" if the T650 supported EV-DO. Now I don't know what to think! By the way, the general consensus is that the phone will be out the third week of April. - ...

I just spoke to a Verizon representative and she asked around and responded that it would, indeed, support EV-DO. If this is true, hallelujah!!!

in the Palm Treo 650 (CDMA) forum

Well, you're not going to believe this, but my friend, who is well-respected at VZW does not even know himself. I asked him last week about the 650 and, while he is pretty sure that it will be release, no one inside the company is giving him a release date! On a side not, I showed him my hacked Sprint phone and he thought it was the coolest thing. If you go this route, make sure you call ...

I spoke with Verizon's data technical support and the gentlemen there seemed to think that the 650 *would* support EV-DO (he commented "why would we release an expensive business-oriented phone without EV-DO?"), so now I am getting conflicting info.

Re: "Upgrade" vs. NE2 ? & Customer loyalty$....Anyone from VZW available?
Jul 27, 2004, 1:36 PM
in the Motorola V710 forum

Here is what I have found out: v710 costs $519 retail 2 yr subscription price (even for existing customers) - $249 "New Every Two" discount - $100 So if you are a current customer... who signs up for 2 more years... and is eligible for NE2... your cost would be a total of $149 ($249 minus $100). Hope this helps. Steve P.S. This was from a VZW rep I spoke with on *611 last night.

I don't think so. I know that England uses GSM -- not sure about the Bahamas though. The v710 is not the hybrid GSM/CDMA phone you'd need; however, VZW has announced such a phone. Based on its phone rollouts, we may get that phone in ... maybe 2006? - Steve

in the Motorola V710 forum

Like everyone else, I am dying to get my hands on the v710. My one question: does anyone know if the charger connector is the same size as the v60/T720/T730 phones? I have a lot of connectors in my home, and lots of friends still have v60s and 720s/730s, and it would be nice to be able to use those same chargers to charge up the 710.
