If customers want to know how to use the phone

And whatever the issue is isn't covered in the user guide, and you can't Google the info and can't find it easily and nobody will help you, then just provide the customer with the manufacturer's tech support line. Service carrier reps really don't have the time or thre training to teach customers how to use their phones step by step. That's what user guides are for, but sometimes an issue isn't addressed by the user guide.

Speaking as someone who actually has Clearwire internet service....

....your claims about there being "poor real world performance" are completely full of ish. My internet connection is, on average, 9 mbps. That's fast enough for my needs right now. Sure, it's not 100 mbps, but it works, and quite consistently, too. Never been down once.

You're surprised?

I run into one of these people at least once or twice a week. They all have smartphones, too.

I can understand the more fluid phrase "the customer is king" better. It means the customer is of the highest priority to any business (because without customers, no business could survive for long), but it also provides enough wiggle room to allow for the fact that the customer, the most important person in the whole business food chain, could also very likely be a complete blithering idiot. I mean, if Dubya could be President, then customers can also be both ...

Arrrrrgh!!!! Half these people who send me texts asking how to work their damn phones and set up their emails and this or that about apps - if they just read their user guides, they'd know what to do! Damn these people for not reading their user guides! It's the first thing you're supposed to do with any complex piece of equipment. Learn how to frickin' use it!

Yet another reason why Americans need to stop thinking so parochially
Aug 31, 2010, 11:24 AM
in the Shop Talk forum

America is not the world. There's actually a world outside the borders of the US, and it doesn't operate the way it does here. God! How did I manage to grasp these very basic concepts from an otherwise unspectacular American public school education, and yet so many other Americans didn't?!? I can only conclude that it's because I'm simply more intelligent than many other Americans. :)

Some idiot convinced her to have the plan changed from unlimited to 500 minutes, knowing that the woman was giving the phone to her teenage son who's roaming all alone while she returns home for a funeral. He runs up over 1000 minutes in two days time after burning through those 500 minutes right away (it was a bad idea anyway, he was in the middle of the bill cycle), and so now her total account balance is beyond ...
