Make it Separate
Jul 27, 2015, 1:42 PM
in the Article: Google Promising More 'Focused' Google+ Experience forum

A Google account is like a zombie -- you kill it, but somehow it always comes back. Annoying users can't be good for branding. They should make it more like Pinterest, something completely separate -- and stop trying to trick users into reactivating a Google account.

Does it work with iMessage or send to iMessage users as SMS? Would be nice if it interfaced directly with the full feature set of alternate messaging services.

Factual Reporting: All NFC, Not Just Apple Pay
Oct 27, 2014, 7:41 AM
in the Article: CVS, Rite Aid Shut Out Apple Pay forum

Any device or card-with-a-chip that supports the NFC protocol for contactless payments has been disabled, this includes Google Wallet. It is by no means specific to Apple Pay. Factual reporting is always a good choice

With 1200 stores close, to those employees, it doesn't matter what condition 'retail' is in right now. Thanks anyways for stopping by ;-)

Lower Prices = Higher Sales

Their stuff is way overpriced. I went to a store in Connecticut a couple weeks ago to buy a network patch cable. $30 for a 7' cable -- ridiculous. I mentioned to the salesperson that seemed kind of pricey, left, and bought a 9' network patch cable for $12 at the Walmart located in the same mini-mall. They're not relevant anymore -- unfortunate to think that all those people will be out of a job though :-(

Another Android handset... yay... Sony should do something daring and delve into a slickly designed style-setting WindowsPhone handset, that would be newsworthy

There are so many Android handsets on the market, nothing really stands out. As nice as this handset is, If they'd wanted to start something, they should've packaged Windows Phone in this wonderful piece of hardware.

Ummm... I use a Windows Phone, hoping to upgrade to a Windows Phone 8 soon. Personally, I also like iPhones and some Android devices, but because of work I'm using (and liking) Windows. Regardless of what we have, Android's wallet is obviously a blatant copy of Apple's Passbook.

Whatever you want to call it, Samsung has obviously copied Passbook -- it doesn't appear they tried to hide that fact, it even looks like Passbook -- how could you possibly not know that...?

Headline Incorrect
Feb 27, 2013, 3:57 PM
in the Article: Samsung Intros Wallet App to Counter Passbook forum

'to Counter Passbook' should be 'to Copy Passbook'. A very blatant copy at that -- must be something Apple forgot to patent. Regardless, it'll make a great presentation slide in a future patent lawsuit :o

Microsoft Should Subsidize It...
Jan 10, 2012, 2:12 PM
in the Article: Microsoft to Sell Unlocked Nokia Lumia 800 forum

Great idea at the right price-point. For the first month or so, Microsoft should subsidize the purchase of these. I think if Microsoft had subsidized device purchases, without contractual requirements, at launch of WP7, they might already be on marketshare infographics

Nice...

in the Article: Nokia Makes the Lumia 900 for AT&T Official forum

Will be interesting to see if you can expand the memory, or at least get one with up to 64gb of storage. While I wouldn't extend a contract for it, this looks like a fun device to have -- if WP7 had launched with something like this, it might have been successful. Maybe it'll help make WP7 show up on a marketshare infographic...

Why...?

in the Article: Hands On: Samsung Galaxy Note for AT&T forum

The Note makes a great first impression on impulse-buyers -- which will account for most of it's sales. Purchasers will find themselves constantly defending the device when others point out the impracticality of it as a daily-driver. A few will love it, however, most will regret their purchase within a few months. Coming to Craigslist ads and Ebay auctions soon

As far as I can tell this is just hearsay circulating the blogosphere -- have yet to see anything that definitively proves this is actually happening. In other news, the iPhone 6 is coming out next week

A lousy Google Reader App :(
Dec 9, 2011, 3:45 AM
in the Article: Google Intros Currents, An Android and iOS Digital Reader forum

It's fine if you just want to skim the news, or play around with trending -- but as a Google Reader app, it's useless. Doesn't mark articles as 'read', makes you pick each particular feed you want included, no option to just incorporate >all< of your Reader feeds. With luck, Google has something similar in the works more specific to Reader use.

Floorplan Feature

in the Article: Google Shopper for iOS Reaches Version 2.0 forum

The maps app for android just added floorplans for public places, like shopping malls and IKEA stores, complete with a blinking 'you-are-here' dot, as well as which level you're on. Would be great if Google would put just that part of the android app into Google Shopper :)

Data Caps
Dec 30, 2010, 5:18 AM
in the Article: Skype Rings Up Free 2-Way Video Calls to iPhone forum

I don't personally have use for video calling, but many will love it... I can see AT&T welcoming this with open arms, even encouraging AppStore approval from Apple. Moderate use of video calling will eat up that capped data limit way before a month is up. Revenues will increase dramatically as customers start buying more than their allotted data usage. Makes those of us who grandfathered in our unlimited data even more glad we did ;)

A Layer of Gunk
Aug 23, 2010, 1:45 PM
in the Article: Google Adds Push Notifications to iPhone App forum

I don't see the need. If you're using Exchange ActiveSync on your iPhone with the current OS, you already get all this using the existing apps on the device. Using Google Calendar, I can create one or more SMS reminders for an event, which remain in Messages until I delete them. Push Notifications disappear once you view them. Seems like an unnecessary layer of gunk. Reminders become reliant on 2 sets of servers now ...

Didn't Like Design?!
Jun 25, 2010, 4:10 AM
in the Article: Review: iPhone 4 forum

Wow... can't believe you were so down on the design. The feel of the glass and metal gives me the perception of a fine watch. I've suffered through many a creaking battery door, 'soft-touch' devices where the rubbery stuff rubs away with use, and just plain cheap feeling. The T-Mobile G1 probably wins in the poorest of build quality for a smartphone. The iPhone-4 though is the best -- I've never held a device that felt so ...
