It wasn't that USC didn't want it, but the reality was USC couldn't afford to pay the large premium of even selling Apple products and pay to have a 4G network built. Choosing between the two at the time the Iphone was offered to USC originally would probably be an easy decision for you as well. 4G and no Iphone, or Iphone and no 4G. As a USC rep I'm glad we are getting it. I do think people ...

US Cellular is not moving the headquarters and they so far are only selling the customers, not the towers, so Mary and company will stay in Chi town and work off USC network.

Almost 1.6 mil in bonus money to 4 people!! I know they work hard, and I am not saying that they don't deserve to be compensated for the value they bring, but when I saw that much being given away I could only hear the sound of a toilet flushing in my mind. Corporate cars, free travel, 6 figure incomes isn't enough or something?

The bank loan example doesn't stack up very well. After you pay off your car loan to the bank you are no longer using that banks services, but you are with a cell phone company. Also, how hard is it to understand that cell phone carriers are a "for profit" organization? They don't want to "break even" on phone and services they offer. For their shareholders, own financial security, and growth to provide you (the demanding and self-entitlement consumer) with ...

As far as I've been told, Apple did not make the Iphone compatible with USC network. But that is besides the point because reps in the stores are not allowed to activate a phone that isn't branded with USC logo and software. Sorry man, it'd be nice if you could.

It doesn't make sense. If you want BB10 but one carrier doesn't have it you go get it with another carrier. Why switch OS if you want BB10 anyway? If I go to a restaurant and want a steak but they don't have steak it would make sense for me to get steak somewhere else. Not head somewhere else and order fish. Also, most people that use blackberry have it for the enterprise server and security. So why switch to ...

That makes sense, don't go get BB somewhere else just switch to an entirely different OS at another carrier. Or you could just switch to an entirely different OS at USC.

US Cellular offers 200mb of data roaming (per month) before you are throttled. If you are using the wifi most all the time on campus it won't matter then. Just a heads up about what your data speeds will be like though while roaming.

As of right now 4G devices are not available for prepay service, same for any windows or blackberry. If you were to bring in a windows or blackberry we couldn't activate it on prepaid and so I'd think it'd be the same for a 4G device like the Motorola M (sweet phone btw).

I really like the Motorola M. Extendend battery life and water repellant coating are some of the plus sides to it over the S III. I also like that it fits easier into the hand but still boasts a decently large screen. Extra internal memory in the S III along with S-beam and S-voice. Aside from that most the features are the same like camera quality, processor speed, 4G capable. Either the S III or the Moto M is ...

USC is not completely leaving Chicago. We will still have our headquarters and big wigs housing us there. While I don't like seeing USC losing 10% of its customer base I understand the move. We are cutting our losses, over half of our churn is from those areas and so these are the areas that cost us to much to support. If you want to use Consumer Reports then follow what they actually say. They list US Cellular as the highest rated National Carrier, not a regional carrier. If you want to make your own judgement on who is a national carrier and who is not then don't use someone elses reports that disagree with you. US Cellular, #1 rated national carrier by consumer reports. Have the magazine sitting infront of me now.

None of the "Big 4" were first in Consumer reports. A regional carrier won (Consumer Cellular), and first place for a national carrier was US Cellular. Verizon was 10-11 pts behind, Sprint a pt behind them, and T-mobile 2 behind Sprint. Hesse is saying more carriers need to matter. If we always ignore carriers that are smaller then we are doing what Hesse is complaining about and saying only the top 2 companies matter.

US Cellular doesn't make you re-sign a contract, but does have you pay a $30 device activation fee whenever you get a phone at discounted pricing. So the fee is still there, but the commitment is not. Reality is though that not everyone has the funds to buy a phone at full retail, or used price. Especially when they have 4-5 lines on an account.

The electrify is a better phone in a 3G market, not so in a 4G market. If you haven't seen the download comparison you should, the Electrify gets spanked. Also, the screen is more crisp and clear on the Aviator. Other than that I'd rather have the Electrify.

Yeah I still believe the logic USC leaders gave. Being a smaller company we can allocate most of our $ to either 4G LTE or the iphone. Which would you choose? I would personally pick 4G LTE. These even smaller carriers may not be building a 4G network but will wait to make roaming agreements when they have to. Because of that they may have some free capital to through around for the outrageous iphone cost.

Re: Not wrong

US Cellular is considered a National Carrier, even the Consumer Report magazine listed them as such and as #1 amount National Carriers. Maybe a difference of 5 isn't meaningful, but that means that T-Mobile who got a score of 67 isn't a difference in service satisfaction to Sprint who got a 72. Verizon is 6 above T-Mobile though, making them look better if you use the 5 point rule.

This is wrong. I happen to work for U.S. Cellular and we get the consumer report magazine. Sprint was rated 3rd (rating of 72) as a national carrier in the 2011 consumer report, behind Verizon (rating of 73) and U.S. Cellular (rating of 84). They were 5th overall with Consumer Cellular (first place) and Credo (3rd place). Also, U.S. Cellular won the Consumer Reports in 2010 as a national carrier with Verizon and then Sprint behind. Your right, I read up on it a bit more and the ITU (International Telecommunications Union) recognizes HSPA+ as 4G. T-mobile is not in my area so there is little to no information for me to locally compare stuff, only management at my current employer to tell me. T-mobile doesn't have 4G, they have HSPA+ which is just ramped up 3G. They called it 4G because AT&T used to call it that. Technically it is still a 3G network. LTE and WIMAX are they only 4G networks out there. I don't blame T-mobile though for that, heck if you were possibly going to be bought out why spend all the cash to upgrade to LTE? Now that the deal fell through maybe they will start upgrading their ...

And you'd be leaving the #1 rated national carrier by ...

I got real close to that last year, and one of my buds makes more than sales managers and maybe better than store manages (over 50k). I think LTE is more important than the Iphone and I would much rather see that before any Apple product in a USC store. If we got the Iphone we may of had to push back LTE (I'm just speculating but its probably likely). C Spire is probably just taking a gamble, if this doesn't work for them they may be gone soon. USC probably didn't want to take that gamble at this time. If you had to pick ...

I wouldn't say US Cellular doesn't have a device to rival the Iphone. I believe the Motorola Electrify is very comparable, maybe I'm day dreaming but it's features are equal to or near what the Iphone 4Gs has. Don't know what you think about the HTC HeroS too.

I'm just a sales rep and don't necessarily have the correct answers but it wasn't that we couldn't afford the Iphone, but more that gaining that in our lineup would take away funds that we had committed to other things. Those other companies had to make the same decisions to determine if gaining the Iphone was in line with the business plan they had or not. For some of them it was, for USC it wasn't at this time, ...

I understand the decision. I do work for the company and am a believer in Android over Iphone (don't get me wrong though, the Iphone is a great product). Apple wants to much $ for the device and you sign a contract for Apple to make you so many devices and if you don't sell them all you as the company still buy them. That is why AT&T is still selling an Iphone that is two updates old, they ...

Re: Phone Pricing Scheme?

I will say USCC buys the phone from the manufacture for more than that $85. Cell phone carriers do not make $ selling a device, they lose money but will eventually make it up in your monthly rate. USCC also gives you the option to buy the phone with points, thereby eliminating the out of pocket cost. Talk with your local rep about how many points you have if you are on a Belief Plan.
