Use craigslist and buy one from someone locally.

Yes, works all the time for me. Have you set up your computer with a "Standard Modem over Bluetooth" so that you can use it as a Bluetooth modem? Then, set up dial-up networking to dial *99#, username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM, password: CINGULAR1. You may need to fiddle with Bluetooth security settings on the phone so that you do not need to authorize the connection every time. Allen

I don't believe you regarding it selling for $3,500.

LockLine would never insure the expensive PDA phones. Perhaps they feel this phone fits into that category.

The rest of the world actually uses 1800 and 900 MHz, while the US uses 1900 and 850/800 MHz. This phone will work internationally only in the areas with 1800 service.

When I purchased this phone, I asked the sales person to call LockLine to get insurance. LockLine wouldn't insure it. This, combined with the fact that the phone felt like it might fall out of my hand when dialing, factored into my decision to return it.

Yes, you can get it for a GSM plan, but that is not what it's for. There are many more phones that are better if you just want a GSM phone. This thing is as large as those old 1995 handsets.

I think if you complain loudly enough and threaten to cancel your contract, they will permit you to make international calls from your phone.

I can tell you that Cingular's coverage in SF is great - only one small dead zone that I know of, down by Fisherman's Wharf.

I've found with > 50% of Cingular reps, you have to know what you want, what you need them to do, etc. I've walked them through getting things done for me on more than a few occasions. I think that they have to read an instruction manual on how to go to the bathroom every time they go. They don't know how to do ****.

Re: Legal Issues???

I could see how it might be illegal in some instances to flash your phone. I'm not sure about here in the US, but maybe other countries. I believe that in some countries, you can't use Bluetooth, either because the 2.4GHz spectrum is used by something else, or becauase it might anger the gods. In any case, a manufacturer might set up the software on the phone to disable Bluetooth for that country. So, flashing it with ...

So, let me get this straight - you want to spend $200+ to get the phone but you won't cough up the money to get a Bluetooth dongle that will do many other things for you? Stop being a cheap bastard already and get a dongle.

Cingular's Unlocking Policy
Jan 9, 2004, 7:07 PM
in the AT&T forum

I went through hell to get it, but I got the unlock code for a Cingular-locked Sony Ericssson T68. You have to have finished your contract, and tell customer service that you want to take your phone to another carrier in a region Cingular doesn't service. They'll give you the run-around, but keep pushing them, and after a few days (doing who the hell knows what) you'll get the unlock code for you phone. Then, it's up to you to ...

That is completely wrong. You WILL need to unlock this phone if you buy it with service from AT&T in order to have it work with another carrier. This is common to every phone sold with service from a carrier, world phone or not.
