I don't have ethis problem because the screen automatically shuts off when you have it up to your face talking on it.

I am having the same problem. I found that if you enable auto brightness, the camera will work. If you uncheck auto brightness, you will get the blank screen. I also cannot adjust the brightness manually if auto brightness is disabled (if you enable it you can't adjust it which of course is by design). Every time I click on it, I get an error and am forced to quit. It was working fine ...
