For you personally, it may be a fail. Some of us don't need 4G, and some of us won't have access to it anytime soon. Other specs look pretty slick, and as long as I can put a custom ROM on it to remove Blur, it will suit my needs pretty well.

And your point? 4G isn't coming to my area any time soon, the technology is still in its infancy, and most current 4G devices are plagued with issues. In addition, I don't need 4G speed on the go, I'm perfectly happy with 3G speed (I don't tether, or download full movies on my phone). Your comment is irrelevant to the discussion. Thanks for playing!

Bootloader?

Can anyone confirm bootloader status? If it's unlocked, this is my next phone.

The real question...

Is the bootloader unlockable from SE's web-based tool? A good custom kernel would fix a lot of the phone's performance issues, and help with battery life as well.

Eric, please proofread.

I enjoy Phonescoop on a daily basis, but the last two lines of this article is just a mess. Please proofread before publishing, or at the very least, get someone else to glance at it first. "U.S. Cellular also announced that it, too, will off the HTE Merge world phone. The Merger goes on sale June 9 for $149.99." Nothing personal.

Not true, exactly. A locked bootloader does NOT prevent root access (Droid X for example). It prevents installing a custom recovery image, as well as custom kernels. Cyanogenmod runs on the Droid X, so locked bootloader definitely does not preclude custom ROMs.

Not all of us need 4G, or care that much about it. Personally, I would almost never use it, unless I was restoring apps from the Market or something. And with this phone, I wouldn't have to pay the extra for 4G, when they stop giving it away.

You're using it correctly. When you open it, ReScan is the only option, and when you talk it, the application closes. It rescans the sdcard in the background, which only takes a few seconds. Count to 5, and open your Gallery, and you should see everything show up.

I find it amusing that you think anyone on this forum gives two ****s about your review of the Droid 2. Do us all a favor and post your (unbiased, i'm sure) reviews in the trash.

Get ScanMedia from the Market. It will rescan the sdcard on demand.

Download ScanMedia from the Market. It will rescan the sdcard on demand. I use it because I have several different apps for wallpapers, and they all put them in their own folders, and I move them around with Explorer. Changes don't apply until the sdcard gets scanned again.

I think he's referring to moving files around on the phone itself. A file manager is still not included with 2.2, but download the application Explorer from the market. It has all the functions you get when you connect the phone to the computer via usb, create/delete folders, copy/paste files, renaming, etc. I love it.

While there's no way to have it done automatically, there is an easy way to merge duplicates once they're on your phone. If you spot a duplicate, or a FB contact that's also a gmail contact, just tap the contact to view it, then tap menu and Edit. Once in the edit screen, tap menu and tap Join. You can then select which contact to join it with, and the two will be combined. You can also separate contacts ...

Unfortunately, the. Verizon guy is mistaken. This used to be true for older batteries, but not anymore. This battery will cease to charge once full, to avoid overcharging. There is no danger or ill effect in leaving it on the charger, since it will simply stop charging when complete. See wikipedia below for a little more info on lithuim-ion polymer batteries. http://bit.ly/cHo8g0 That said, the battery life kinda sucks. :(

Two things: it's not up to me to google for a source for someone else's claims. I asked what his specific sources were. Also, bully for you, results are a bunch of blogs stating the things he said, without citing where they got their information. And none of them said older devices weren't getting Flash, just that newer ones were. This just in, my sources say iPhone OS 5 coming to Motorola RAZR!!!

Menno or mupi, can one of you guys help out with this, and give a tutorial on importing email accounts into Gmail? I set mine up a long time ago, and have since broken my laptop screen, so I don't have a way to access the full "desktop" Gmail to give instructions. I ask you guys because I know you're both as detail-oriented as I am :) Thanks!

Yeah, as near as I can tell, there is no zoom for the Gmail app. I have only needed it once or twice, and I'll just use the Gmail web page when I do. Kinda weird it's not included though.

Again, I only used those two apps long enough to give you a tutorial, and show you what's possible. I doubt you can create a text file from them, however. As far as how to create a text file....seriously? *sigh* Try searching the Market for "notepad" and reading descriptions. If, no sorry, when you fail at finding one yourself, try OI Notepad. I use it, and know for a fact you can save to a specified folder on your sdcard. It ...

Re: Duplicate E-mails and E-mail deletes
Apr 18, 2010, 8:47 AM

Why don't you guys just use gmail as your only account on the device? Its so much easier. You can set up your gmail to pull emails from other accounts, and it can also label those emails "AOL" or whatever you want. It will also let you reply with the address the email was sent to, from within gmail. Cuts down on multiple account headaches a LOT.

Re: a million dollar idea!!

Actually, they both do almost exactly what you want, if you would take two minutes to figure them out. For both, the only extra step you need is to create a text file (whatever.txt) with the text you want to scroll. For NightBook, place it in the /ebooks directory on your sdcard. For SpeechPad, place it in the /speechpad directory. For Nightbook, open the program, hit Load New Book, and tap the screen to start scrolling. Hit Menu for (surprise) ...

Sorry to burst your bubble, but you're a little late. A simple Market search reveals NightBook and SpeechPad to match your description. I haven't tried either, but you should. If neither of them meet your specific needs, perhaps your $100 could convince the devs of those apps to add your requested features?

Re: i want my old answer slide back!!!!!!

I haven't seen any apps in the Market to do this. Most of the lock apps emulate the iPhone style. On the plus side, the slider has the exact same motion, and exact same functionality that it did before the 2.0.1 update. Slide left-to-right to answer, slide right-to-left to ignore. The motion is even the same. It just doesn't look like a wheel.

It's not based on geographic area. It's done in batches sorted by ESN. There's no way to predict when it would be pushed to a specific phone.

Considering 2.1 was promised in first quarter of 2010, and arrived on the very last day, i would expect it to be the last day of first half of 2010. Speech to text is rocking my socks off.

You can now speak into any text input field. Just click in the field with the soft keyboard and click the microphone button, which is where the comma was in landscape mode. The voice recognition is really good, in fact, i typed this using it.

Man, thanks for telling me! I had no ideas NJ wasn't part of the US anymore. Since I got my 2.1 today, that's got to be the explanation, right?

Seriously? I'm pretty impressed. Live wallpapers are neat, but ultimately useless. Speech reco in any text field, on the other hand, super awesome. New gallery works much better. Multi-touch in the browser is very nice. And it seems the phone is just a little snappier overall, but that's subjective.

You don't have it? If you got the official VZW update, I've been told it was cooked into the image.

Nope, just you. Personally I like having a phone that will do whatever I want, and not just what Steve tells me I want.
