Re: All this expanding 21 & 42 HSPA and Tmo's parent company is losing $

in the Article: T-Mobile Expands 42Mbps and 21Mbps HSPA+ Footprints forum

I can't recall a quarter where T-Mobile USA has lost money. In the last reported quarter (3rd 2011), they made $332 million in net income (profit)... that's after all spending, and billions in revenues. http://goo.gl/g91rq You might be confusing them for Sprint... they've been losing hundreds of millions of dollars each quarter and they're still investing in their network... they have no choice. The concern about T-Mobile is that they aren't adding a significant amount of customers like Verizon and AT&T.

What about 3G EVDO?

If they're launching LTE on their 1900 band (which is what their CDMA EVDO 2G/3G network works on nationwide)... won't that restrict/hurt 3G users more than the new LTE users? I thought their 3G network was already being hammered by all the unlimited data smartphone users they have?

in the Article: FCC Schedules 700MHz Spectrum Auction for July 19 forum

I wonder if they'll bid in this auction. I think the lower frequency spectrum would make them much more competitive against AT&T and Verizon, especially since Sprint has announced that they'll be deploying CDMA in 800MHz after they kill iDEN. It would help with rural coverage and in-building signal penetration, which is from the high frequencies they use (they already have tons of cell sites to try to make up for that, but in the end higher frequency is ...

I downloaded it and it works great on my Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 with 2.1. It appears most mobile add ons have not been updated to support this new beta version; should be great once they do. Save to PDF function is nice.

in the Article: Sprint Mulling Switch to LTE and T-Mobile Merger forum

That's would be great. From the looks of it, there are going to be four LTE bands if Sprint/Clear go with it. Verizon and AT&T have both 700MHz and 1700MHz (which T-Mobile also has, but uses for their 3.5G network), and Sprint would have 2500MHz. Unfortunately building penetration would suffer since it's a high frequency, but if built right, they can be strong competitors in the big markets. I was in LA this weekend and was shocked how good ...

in the Article: Sprint Mulling Switch to LTE and T-Mobile Merger forum

Here's a list of the largest mobile companies in the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_ mobile_network_operators T-Mobile is #8, which is quite big considering Sprint isn't even in the top 30. T-Mobile has made no secret that they're not letting go of their US division very easily, after all, it still makes hundreds of millions of dollars in profit, unlike Sprint.

in the Article: TracFone Debuts $45 Unlimited Plan Via StraightTalk forum

Correct, they also use T-Mobile and AT&T phones/network for their other brands (Tracfone/Net10), but for Straight Talk is appears they are only using Verizon phones and network, as seen by their phone selection and coverage map on their www.straighttalk.com website. If I remember correctly, even on GSM phones/plans you can't use the SIM card on outside unlocked phones.
