All of the specs are the same except Gingerbread 2.3. I have the Vibrant. Hope they will release update for 2.3 but won't hold my breath. Still waiting for Froyo 2.2.

The answer is yes. Turning WiFi on does drain the battery, especially when searching for a signal. With that said, I have WiFi and bluetooth turned on by default. I still get a days life even after 4 months of having the Bold. I think the bluetooth drains more battery when you constantly talk using bluetooth. I'm not sure if its the bluetooth or just talking that makes the battery drain quicker.

Re: Visual Voicemail - It's built into Bold 9700 and it's FREE!!!!

There's no easy way to disable visual voicemail. However, I found the answer from Teek from Crackberry Forums. Make sure to unplug your blackberry first. It works. ------------------------------------- --------------------- 1) Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Research In Motion\Shared\Loader Files\ and find the file 'net_rim_bb_vmm'. 2) Use notepad to edit net_rim_bb_vmm. Find and change "required" from true to false. This will allow vmm to be uncheck and unselected instead of forced in the install or upgrade process. 3) Save the file - VISTA ...

Speedy OS and fast App rendering
Nov 26, 2009, 11:10 AM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

This phone is the bomb when it comes to speed. I typically have 10-12 apps running simultaneously. The ability to handle calls, music, e-mails, text, web, GPS, etc without delay supports my business activities. Just hold down the Menu key and you can switch applications as fast as you can press the button. Remember, the OS still does not multi-task. Meaning the apps don't run in the background. It just feels like it. Google Maps render really fast ...

3G vs. Edge Data speeds testing
Nov 25, 2009, 10:52 AM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

If you're expecting blazing 3G speeds on this phone, its not happening. Depending on the web site, you will only see a slight speed increase. However the faster processor and memory on the new Blackberry 9700 helps render Google Map faster. The biggest drawback to speed is actually the Blackberry Browser. Its slow. Recommend downloading Opera Mini. Opera Mini will speed up the browsing experience. Benchmarked the download speeds tethered to a laptop. Edge speeds were measured ...

Visual Voicemail - It's built into Bold 9700 and it's FREE!!!!

There's no need to download this program. The visual voicemail software comes with T-Mobile's Bold 9700. - It works perfectly. I can see who called before I check voicemail. - The actual "voicemail" is stored in your phone. When you check your voicemail, you are not "dialing" into T-Mobile. I still prefer using Google Voice. With Google Voice, your messages are transcribed into text and e-mailed to you. It's great for professionals who receive lots ...

Battery Life - results after 4 days of testing
Nov 22, 2009, 12:31 PM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

I'm happy to report that battery life is very good. I get 1-1/2 days of battery life with rigorous testing. This includes using GPS while driving. Playing music with stereo headsets. Phone calls w/speakerphone on. Web browsing with Opera. IM with Beejive. Taking pics and videos. In comparison, I use to get 1 full day with the Curve 8320. And that was without GPS. Handsdown, the Bold 9700 has the best ...

Why not fix the problem yourself? I opened up my Blackberry to loosened up the keyboard, now the End Key is not sticking anymore. Another problem solved. You're welcome!

Problem with sticky "Send" key and LCD light leaching under "Menu" and "Return" keys
Nov 20, 2009, 8:11 PM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

Only 3 days after I bought this phone, I've discovered quality issues with this phone. - The Send key button feels very spongy and creaky. - There is light emanating in the gap between the LCD screen and Menu/Return buttons. I think over time these are buttons are raised ever-so-slightly and it allows the light to shine through. It seems like the engineers at Blackberry didn't get the right materials for these issues.

GPS with Google Maps
Nov 20, 2009, 12:15 PM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

This is my first use of GPS with any phone. Downloaded Google Maps and used the GPS function on blackberry while driving yesterday. The back-light stayed on while in Map mode. I'm amazed at the battery life with all the programs running. Still 1/2 battery life end of day. Google Maps also displays traffic and bus schedules. Played with Latitude on Google Maps as well. I could see where my wife was going and she can ...

It's a keeper

in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

It's official! I'm keeping this phone. Why? Today, I'm running the GPS, playing music on my bluetooth headset, checking e-mail & texting (while i'm driving) and received a call or two, and surfing the web! The ability to handle multiple apps simultaneously is the key. And yes, the battery is still half-full from today's usage. My old Curve 8320 would had choked on the music and another app. Good job Blackberry. This phone is amazing and keeps up ...

Three BIg Problems so far
Nov 19, 2009, 1:36 AM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

1) The microSD card I have does not "click" into place above the battery. The 2 MB Sandisk that came with the phone clicks into place. I have a 4 GB Transend does not click into place, therefore Blackberry will not recognize the card. 2) The leather battery door is so hard to remove. I almost feel like breaking the glass screen trying to remove the battery door. 3) Can't yet get use to ...

I came, I saw, I bought
Nov 16, 2009, 2:30 PM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

I went to the T-Mobile store. Bought it for $449.99 + tax. Spread out 20 months on approved credit. Paid $22.50 + tax out the door. - All of the units made in Mexico. - The volume on earpiece is same as original Blackberry 8320. The speakerphone is not as loud. Will test out everything to see if it works properly. So far, the memory was 110 MB free. The OS speed is faster than Curve ...

Is the earpiece and speakerphone loud?
Nov 8, 2009, 11:11 PM
in the BlackBerry Bold 9700 forum

This is the number issue I have with cell phones. They're not loud enough to hear in traffic, subways or restaurants. Is the new Blackberry Bold 9700 loud on the earpiece and speakerphone as my Blackberry Curve 8320? FYI: I don't think the Curve 8900 or Bold 9000 are loud enough. That's why I never upgraded. My Curve 8320 speakerphone does distort when the volume is at max. The Moto Cliq is plenty loud, but ...
