Galaxy... oh I see
Oh ok, I get it, the "Galaxy" brand means jack crap and Samsung will just put it on *any* phone they want to market to some sucker to make them think it's a high end phone. Ok, glad we cleared that up. Not saying it's a bad phone with no contract for $179.99, but at this point I won't touch anything Samsung with a 1000ft poll.
Re: Gotta LOVE that marketing...
" How will this device that you claim to be "better" actually serve me? Can I get ALL of my media onto it by merely plugging it into my MacAir? Or will I have to download helper apps, and do mickey-mouse crap, and work-arounds?"
I really like Double Twist's AirSync. I don't even have to plug my phone in, it syncs music, picture, videos over WiFi. Granted it's not an out of the box solution like an iPhone and iTunes ...
another knee jerk reaction...
we, as humans, have piss poor barometers for risk assesment on large systems. we have 1 incident where someone dies crossing the street while using a handheld device and some idiot politician thinks it's epidemic. do these guys do *any* kind of research on what the actual % of incidents there are due to handhelds? no, "if it saves ONE life it's worth it!" bullcrap. with that philosophy, we should all be federally mandated to live in giant plastic ...
sigh
open those wallets, qualcomm is at your door building their monopoly. The war was never about superior tech or standards, it was about deep pockets and huge corporate / gov handshakes. the consumer loses.
Re: talk+text+surf=gsm
shockingly few people talk+surf or care. you hear about it because the people who do care are tech junkies / journalists (even then how much do they *really* do), or at&t reps; a group of people far more vocal then the average joe.
much more appealing would be the tethering feature verizon is offering.
PS: I'm not a verizon customer / rep.
it was probably going to happen but...
but this is the most disengenious statement in the whole article
"Our Premier customers have told us that it's only fair that we recognize those Premier customers who spend more or have shown us their loyalty by being with us longer."
Re: The iPhone is so 2007
Hehe yeah, I don't think AT&T looks at this as a "relief", they're probably tossing and turning in cold sweats over this.
Re: Still no flash support?
Yeah this won't be for all the hardcore Android users on Verizon. But you will see a mass exodus of people from AT&T and a lot of the more casual Verizon smartphone consumers opt for the iPhone over Android.
Re: Disappointed...
What other features is it lacking from the AT&T version besides simaltaneous data and voice? Notice Verizon also adds the hotspot feature to it? I'd take that over data/voice any day.
All I know is... nice knowing you AT&T, this is going to hit them like a wrecking ball.
Re: Why not Sprint?
glinc, the majority of WebOS devices are on Sprint. Verizon's marketing for the Pre went from slightly less horrible than Sprint's to nonexistant.
Don't worry, the Pre 2 is coming to Sprint.
Re: +1
Just got to play with one. First blackberry product I've been excited for in a while. I love the Lotus form factor, this thing blows the Lotus away. The screen is beautiful.
so when will...
So when will HP go on a rampage now that they have Palm's nuclear arsenal of "hey we invented the smartphone" IP.
Syncing contacts, email, and calendar? WTF???
Re: No Windows Phone 7 for Us
I'm sure Verizon isn't exactly all roses and sugar plums over the Kin fiasco. I could think of two contributing thought processes to this decision... 1) wait and see how WP7 does, 2) go pound sand, Microsoft, thanks for those 2 turds of a phone. I'm sure Verizon is just being conservative and making sure WP7 isn't a dud in a month.
I don't blame them at all.
Just 3 of the big 4 eh?
Sprint isn't playing ball? Interesting
Re: Is it that necessary???...
Not to mention this would be a disgusting abuse of government power to enforce an anti-competitive mandate if this were to pass. This is an anti-competitive, anti-consumer, pro massive, old dying corporation move.
I'm not too worried, it won't go anywhere... I hope...
Ew
1999 called, they want their smartphone design back
Re: That's B.S.
they can still make phone calls... /;|
it's already been pointed out that cell phones have been used by inmates to conduct criminal activity.
Re: I Feel Bad.
Google said there will be no Nexus 2
Re: your point?
how was that his point, strawman argument much Mentat? He's only saying that in a much more natural hand position the iPhone experiences signal degradation. Those other phones you have to do some hand ninjitsu in order for it to happen.
You are right on this one point, Mentat, this is an absolutely ridiculous lawsuit. Didn't know I could be sued for stupid design. What a horrible precedent this would set for future litigation.
On the other hand we might see ...
Re: idiots!
Unfortunately our government is full of lawyers. Firms pay disgusting amounts of money lobbying to make sure tort reform never happens. IE we're screwed, when these companies (like Apple) pay settlements or lawsuit awards guess who gets handed that cost... the consumers. I'm not saying companies shouldn't be penalized for negligence or other infractions, but this frivolous horsecrap drives me up the wall. And trust me I'm the last guy to be an Apple apologist.
Waaaaahhh my iPhone gets ...
Re: awsome
"awesome"
I concur
Re: PUBLICLY ISSUES MOBILE PHONES (only)
Sorry justfinethanku, private companies do this on your company email already. No reason they can't do it on phones *they* gave to you and *they* pay the monthly tab for so you can conduct *their* business on it. Whaddya think Enterprise Servers do; they don't even need to snag your phone. Now if it's your phone, your monthly bill, that's another story.
Look you can't take a company car and just joy ride it to Mexico and get ticked when ...
Re: I think this is great
and just wait 'til WiMax 2 hits... wwwwoooooowwwww!!!
Re: Get a Pre
Why are you so afraid of android? Have you used one? Do you know people who have them? If you're scared of stability, don't run too many apps simaltaneously and don't make sure you only install reputable apps. I have a feeling you don't need as much handholding as you think you do.
By the way, I'm a huge fan of WebOS (aka Palm phones). If you want newer hardware, then hang tight there is a very good chance a ...
Re: Get a Pre
netboy, the pre has the same resolution as the iPhone 3GS. you, my friend, are ignorant.
can someone please produce statistics...
can anyone produce statistics on % of crashes caused by someone texting? the problem is we as humans have really bad brain computers for wrapping our heads around risk and the actual probablity of you getting in an accident due to X, Y, or Z. Has anyone hit YOU because they were texting? I bet if we polled these forums there would be very few if any who have. even if we did any such poll would be skewed ...
Yeah but 20???
WHY 20?
At the *MOST* you need 2 form factors, a high end and an affordable version if you want to be overkill. Extrapolate that to 4 carriers, branded under different names that's 16 max. 20 is idiotic, and it makes LG look like ridiculous reactionists, "oooo oooo everyone likes android lets make 20!!"
Let's go Taiwan style!
Screw all these driving regulations, let's go Taiwanese style and viedo chat conference text facebook MMORPG our way down the highways!
Re: Micro HDMI cable
thanks for the tip!
Re: This is a lousy phone
1) I experienced zero lag with this phone, and I tested it on several resource intensive applications.
2) just running 3g battery isn't any worse then droid, incredible (haven't messed with an N1 enough to compare), and you pretty much have to chalk that up to the bigger screen. 4G definitely murders battery if you're not in solid wimax coverage. 4G hunting is what really nails it.
3) I didn't do a speed test so I can't attest to actual numbers ...
are there real stastics on smartphone viruses?
Smartphone viruses are so insanely rare I can't believe anyone would be crazy enough to let Symantecs bloatware corrupt their phone. Are there any actual statistics on smartphone viruses? It has to be so miniscule that anti-virus on your phone would be nonsense.
Remote wipe and call blocking isn't so bad, but all the other crap you'd get... I trust Norton as far as I can throw them.
Re: For those Behold II users upset...
LOL hard to argue with that
Oh wow game over...
Android is just going to accelerate against iPhone that much faster now. Combine the completely open nature of Android and the colossal support of Google and the uber sleek and effecient UI of WebOS... *scary*
Oops, wrong writer...
Oops my bad, ol' Phil did this one... well anyway, that's the general mindset I have when I read PS reviews haha.
Re: ?...
Then what's the point of video chat if neither of you can see the video stream....
Re: Already an app for the EVO that works NOW
Yeah I used Fring on it yesterday, worked ok. I'm pretty sure google video chat will work too, I'll have to dig up where I heard / read that.
The main thing is that way more people use Skype, so this is awesome.
Re: $4.99 for Qik
Oh and guess what, Qik isn't the only video chat option on this thing...
Re: last time i visit this site.
Dude, if you didn't already know that *any* time Rich reviews a Sprint device he can't help himself but to disparage the network in some way and assume we all must get the same coverage (or lack of coverage) that he does, then you need to brush up on your reading comprehension. Once you accept this fact, then it makes his review of Sprint devices much more enjoyable.
Re: $4.99 for Qik
Qik is not $5 for the video chat service; its *FREE*. They have some premium subscription that they haven't even come out with details for yet that will cost $5. settle down.
Re: Okay...
can you fit an iPhone in your pocket?
