I'm aware of the processor's actual speed and how solid it is, the fast boot up, blah, blah, blah. I had the G1 and now have the N1. I like having my phone clean of the the add on UIs, we get the updates first (well except for the upcoming one from what I understand, big red and moto stole it from us!) I was (add your favorite sexual insinuation here) when I heard of this phone. And was, until I ...

Yeah in Europe they also pretty much ONLY run GSM, not CDMA (which is why the Storm can be called a world phone, because it runs GSM as well as Sprints CDMA) I can see the possibility of a GSM phone being avail across all GSM networks and the same with CDMA, but only a handful of the higher priced ones running both, especially with UMA (I always forget if thats right, UMA, GMA some crap like that) around ...

this is more for anyone flipping through looking for info on the phone itself to help in determining whether or not to purchase. now w/the cupcake, of course the the regular messenger now offers the soft keypad, I however still prefer Chomp, which now DL's the MMS w/no prob. Hell, since the cupcake, my days have gotten a little brighter, Gummi Bears rain from the sky and the Angels themselves have shined a light down upon me with a song of ...

what are you talking about my $750 deposit? but that is the type of response i would expect from a fanboy. i don't like the iphone, i'll admit, i feel it is overrated. that, though, is just my opinion. i have no statistics to back that up, but if you look at, say the sales overseas (japan and europe) sales have dropped, of course they've been offering free iphones (both8 and 16's) as retention and w/2yr agreements w/specific plans ...

i wouldn't say POW! because all that is, is conjecture... would nokia have 30% of market share if the handsets weren't selling? nope, apple has been out for only 3 years, right now, out of any single handset it is the best seller (in america). sales have dropped elsewhere, not due to the global economic climate, but because the novelty is wearing off. of course, if you look at what's avail elsewhere, i'm not surprised. again, i'm not trying ...

werll, w/limited search, Nokia does have some mfg done stateside, i didn't really find any specific locations, but they are very active in cali. between their design ctr that sponsors design explorations at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena and different coop efforts w/Berkeley and the University of California they're seem to be contributing... on an interesting side note (at least for me) Nokia Latin America offices are located in FL, the only offices NOT located in the ...

it could be due to the actual agreements, including both geographical reasons, as well as lack of both providers individually in okla (being generally a smaller mkt), cheaper to strike a deal then to build additional towers. i do want to ask, was this in an area that had tmo coverage, if so, i feel it is likely that any agreement would generally be to cover dead zones, or at the most area's w/poor coverage. that is something i'm not ...

what the question is, T-Mon, in your home area (i.e.-home town) will you go off a competitors tower. i realize, technically it isn't roaming, but it still happens, or so i believe due to the info given to me when i worked tech at at&t. wombough states that providers set up blocks that won't allow this to occur, even w/an agreement between the providers, unless you are outside of your home area. so, as i take it, if i ...

yeah, he has atrocious grammar too... but, womb-boy, i never stated roaming isn't what takes place OUTSIDE your home area, what i was saying is that, even in your home area, you will be using another providers tower from time to time. it may not say roam on your phone, but you will be using a different providers tower if there is an agreement. your phone may be placed on the HLR not the VLR, but if you have ...

ok, yes IN AMERICA there are several CDMA carriers, but do you wonder why the new storm comes w/a SIM card slot AND the GSM capability?? maybe because most of the world (including vodafone, the UK company that owns verizon) use GSM. now you are taking dying as if i mean in some way it'll be gone in the next year or so, no, but CDMA can't really improve to much more, unlike GSM (that came from TDMA) and ...

agreed, i was mistaken on TDMA, which was essentially directly after analog and of the course the building block of GSM (which is why CDMA is a dying technology and GSM is still evolving) but i, like others who have posted, still feel that you were incorrect w/your original post about GSM NOT allowing roaming in the home area. and if you're done w/talking to ignorant" people (who appears to be the majority), and finished w/you "my mom" analogies, ...

well, to be honest, i was well out of middle school by 1992, and it was TDMA backe then. as far as cdma always showing roaming...wrong, i'm currently on a cdma network, and it never shows roaming, i do know when i roam off of certain networks (like us cellular), but thats only because i lose 3G on theirs and another one. i know this by talking to some friends i have that work for verizon, explaining the limitations ...

soooo, what you're saying, is that providers are going to put extra money into putting blocks to make sure that you can only go off of a competitors tower outside of a 50 sq mile (give or take) radius, in turn raising the chances for no signal w/in the area you will primarily be using the phone. and you're saying ONLY GSM does this?? i mean, why wouldn't it be industry wide? maybe i finally found something ...

i believe that rumor is coming from the fact that the storm is GSM compatible, BUT that, at least at this time, is only for international roaming (like on vodafone's network) you are able to get a verizon sim card for that reason. now, i believe, w/the right software or info you would be able to unlock the storm to use on a U.S. GSM network, in fact i'm almost possible you could do this, but the possibility of ...

ok, even by just searching the forums here, you can find people that roam off of other GSM towers. https://www.phonescoop.com/forums/forum.php ?fm=m&ff=2&fi=177247 thats just one, when i worked w/at&t, we did tech for the NE, including NJ, and when cingular bought out at&t, there were many towers that stopped allowing calls off the network, due to migration issues. it happens. not all towers are shared, so yes, some times one may have a signal when another doesn't, that's providers for you, ...

yes they do. its another way for the providers to get money, the end prize. when i worked for at&t in technical there was even info on our system explaining it so if we spoke to someone who had "roam" on their phone we could explain that that although they were roaming onto another carriers tower, they still were not being charged. unless of course they were on a cruise ship and they turned on their phone to ...

technically, yes they can. both are GSM. but just because they are the same technology doesn't mean that at&t will allow use of their towers, well all of them at least. most likely what you're looking at will be predominantly the same coverage as at&t w/some minor differences. in my area i did the same, except w/helio that i knew was a cdma and would run off of sprint and verizon. but due to conflicts there were some areas that ...

there are many reasons why i'm unhappy with both my current carrier and phone. one surprise i don't want again, is getting a phone that DOESN'T allow mp3 ringtones. so, does the g1 have that capability? i'm sure, being an open platform, even if it doesn't out of the box, someone would have created a app for it, but i've assumed before, and we all know where that gets us...
