Are you positive about that? I'm just asking because I know that wew were able to get a VirginMobile SLIDER to work on VZW's network by entering certain info in a programming menu in the phone - so I wondered if the same could be true for SPCS... Thanks for the info Rich!

Quick question for everyone out there... What do I need to do to a VirginMobile KYOCERA Slider to use it as a "regular" SPCS phone? *I know when it first came out (before VZW had it) we found a programming code to use it on VZW's system...

Re: Samsung A680 vs. Sanyo 8200
Nov 4, 2004, 10:06 PM

It depends on what you really want from your phone... features or better service/reception? I and several other SPCS users (all of which are current or former employees of SPCS including myself) have had several phones and used them in various parts of the country and we have always found that SANYO gives you the best/most consistent reception...period. I personally prefer the style and features of SAMSUNG phones but I will probably never have another SAMSUNG phone because of ...

No... They haven't charged to call customer service for quite some time now. I can tell you that sprint's customer service has greatly improved in recent history - I've been a customer since 97 & it had gotten really really bad, but now it's actually good & as long as you say "representative" during the automated portion - you'll always get a live person.

Here's all you need to know ... The e-mail address of ANY Sprint phone is the 10 digit phone # followed by @messaging.sprintpcs.com (the phone must be text messaging capable, which all but some of the older phones are able to at least receive these "e-mails" even if they can't send you messages from the phone) Here's what it would look like - 1234567890@messaging.sprintpcs.com Ha ppy messaging! ~brodfukker

in the Rumor Mill forum

muchdrama said: Yeah, when are they going to discontinue this decrepit has-been of a line, anyway? I've never been impressed with the V60 from ANY carrier. MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!!! But anybody who knows a V60 user knows that they are hardcore about their V60 until the end! It must be the looks because it can't be the features or the "user-friendly" menu! I think you'll have to pry it out of their cold dead hand to get them to stop ...

Re: Which is better Sanyo or Samsung?
Feb 5, 2004, 12:52 PM
in the Rumor Mill forum

I have carried 4 models from each brand & SANYO has always performed better, especially when it comes to reception = SANYO is KING!!! The last Samsung I had was the A500. Here's my experience - great asthetics, great graphics/menus, great voice quality, BUT terrible reception - everywhere & it was very annoying. I get SUPERIOR SPCS service in my area but with the A500 I would have FULL signal strength during a low voice traffic time (you know not ...

Feb 5, 2004, 11:50 AM
in the Sprint forum

Here's my 2 cents ... I know it sucks when you're told the wrong info - imagine that somebody misinformed by SPCS!!!, but I've tried ALL the carriers & SPCS has always been the one I've stuck with - the benefits outnumber the drawbacks - I've always found their quality comparable or better than others & SPCS features impress me more than other carriers(VM, web, etc) especially now that shortmail is finally going away! ...I'm on the same plan ...

Re: Sanyo to Verizon
Feb 3, 2004, 11:44 PM
in the Tricked Out forum

Don't mention it Glenn, glad to help. Just to make sure it could be done I tried a few different models - the SANYO 6200, Samsung A500, VIRGIN Mobile SLIDER, to name a few... The only trick with some of the phones is that they are preprogrammed to dial *2 for Customer Care (via SPCS) the problem this creates is that VZW requires you to dial *228 for OTA. If anybody figures out how to remove the *2 function ...

I know this is waaaaaaay late for a reply but you should be able to program it with SPCS with no problem at all. Just look for the thread in this section about the SLIDER & there are the instructions for programming the phone - when you call SPCS to program it they will give you the info to fill in the blanks. btw the SLIDER is kick a**!!! one of the best phones I've ever used...

Re: Sanyo to Verizon
Feb 2, 2004, 2:04 AM

It is possible to use Sprint phones on VZW's network - I've done it ... but there are a few catches ... some will only operate on "extended network" which means that your vm alerts & text messaging won't work. The way to "switch" the phone is to get the MSL for your SPCS phone & then you have to program the SPCS phone for the VZW network codes. The you need to have VZW customer care ...

Hey SKipDoG, just out of curiosity - what carrier are you referring to??? That's pretty damn cool that they will let you bring any phone over - can they offer service on all freqs? CDMA, TDMA, GSM... U will go nuts when u use this phone, it is one of the best handsets I've EVER used...period! & the slide is just too cool.

Take it from me as a SPCS user of 5+ years...GO SANYO! Samsung phones are great except they commonly have reception problems on SPCS - not sure why, they just do. But I've never had a single problem with SANYO phones period. Plus the new SANYOs have dual color screens, cameras, etc. ditto on NEXTEL not ruling...LNP will kill 'em too :D :)  8) :P

This is the method to "Get Into" the SLIDER... Get into manual programming by entering 111111 then ok then it will ask for the 6 digit code, enter 868666. Next change the min to your number, and sid to ????? (INSERT YOUR CARRIER'S SID HERE) before exiting the manual program, be sure to change the service code (in the first menu screen) to all zeroes, this should allow you to also OTA by dialing YOUR CARRIER'S OTA phone #. Good Luck! btw ...

SAMSUNG quality is A-1 from my experience & the experience of several others I know... but the one (& only) area of weakness I've seen is reception on SprintPCS. The problem I had with this was actually using a 3G model - the A500. The phone would not be able to connect a call to the network sometimes even when showing full signal. But I've seen friends have really good experiences with SAMSUNG using T-MOBILE & ...

no alarm = no phone i'll buy - period! anything sony/ericsson is of no interest to me...sony had a qood design/quality back in the day with qualcomm but ericsson has never made anything i can think of that i could tolerate. it would fill a niche @ vzw though you know? our PTT lag is not a problem...I'm in the midwest and I've seen it used without a problem and without any noticeable lag.
