Carriers love being in the phone subsidy business. It allows them to overcharge you for the phone and it is essentially the only thing that allows them to charge you an etf. The fact that they offer exactly 0 incentive to purchase the phone at retail prices should be the big clue.

My message was not addressed to you and your question was not interesting to me. The answer, however, is that if sprint followed anything resembling standard accounting practices then this will have no impact on their bottom line.

Reading comprehension is at an all time low. LS payed Sprint a 65 million dollar deposit for the right to piggyback sprint's lte deployment. Sprint simply is going to repay them. This means essentially that Dan Hesse entered into an agreement where his worst case scenario amounted to a 65 million dollar interest free loan. This would widely be considered good management.

I'm sorry to be rude but it's clear you have no idea how money works, let alone business. Sprint received the equivalent of a 65 million dollar 6 month interest free loan. There is absolutely no way that is a bad thing for Sprint. For example, lets say sprint put the money into a 6 month cd earning 3 percent (lamest investment tool I can think of) simple interest alone makes them a million dollars. ...

First, the reason for sprints investment in WiMAX is well documented. They would forfeit the spectrum gained from the Nextel acquisition if they did not deploy a next gen network in a certain time period. Wimax was ready, lte was not, pure and simple. Also to the best of my knowledge sprint does not actually have wimax on,any of its own towers. That network is owned and operated entirely by clear.

Sprint does not need lightsquared to help them build their network. That was never the deal. Lightsquared hired Sprint to help them (lightsquared) build their network. In exchange Sprint would gain use of LS's spectrum. Sprint is building the network either way.

Actually this was a no risk decision by sprint. Lightaquared was paying them, not the other way around. I think sprint made something in the order of hundreds of millions without actually doing anything.

Since Sprint, with considerably fewer resources, has built and maintained a network universally acknowledged to be superior to at&t's; this is really more like Einstein trying to explain his great idea to a retard than the other way around. Now if Sprint were attempting to tell at&t how to expand their customer base with relentless and misleading advertising, or through never ending aquisitions and purchasong subscribers so as to never have to compete by improving their network then I ...

It depends on the three carrier's relative strengths. If there are three roughly equal carriers then three may be a viable number. One could argue that its a different story when 2 of those carriers would have over 80% of the market.

I agree. And how could at&t possibly be that confident? What could possibly convince at&t that gobbling up some 40% of the market share would be allowed so much so that they would bet billions on it? The potential answers disturb me greatly.

Did I miss the part of the article where Sprint asked for control of at&t? Any amount of thoughtful analysis of.the two companies would yield always the same conclusion; that even in the darkest days of Sprint's prior bad management they managed their network better than at&t. And at&t can sit on as much spectrum as they like provided it doesn't negatively impact their network. Only their network is universally understood to be overloaded. They've been on ...
