I respectfully disagree about the issues I have falling under a warranty. They are, in fact, the baseline design of the hardware and software-- not defects that affect this unit alone. The user interface is truly a hodge-podge of a trackball interface and pseudo-touch interface. Many normal things like selections and data entry are just not written for a finger touching the display, but are fine for a keypad, which it was developed for. If you have not used ...

Won't Change Anything

in the Article: Verizon Wireless to Offer Update for BlackBerry Storm forum

It's still a Storm and even after all the leaked firmware updates, this one included, the device is a failure. The screen click is totally lame (and gets worse over time) , the processor is grossly underpowered, and overall user interface is not suitable for a touch screen device. I had one since November 2008 and it is the absolute worst cell phone or BlackBerry I've ever purchased. The rubber sides creak because they have gotten loose, the accelerometer gets stuck ...

If RIM makes it available to Verizon in Q3 2008, it will take Verizon 4 to 6 months to test and integrate it into their network (and customize the OS to VZW standard). So I think it won't be out until late Q1 2009.

Uh? Because the USB drivers on your PC may not be talking to the handset, its a POS? I Bluetooth connected it to my Mac in 10 seconds and moved a whole address book over-- with no cable. It seemlessly connects to the BT in my car and works flawlessly. Problems may not be with the phone. Suggest you review the SW on your computer and try again.

Similar to many past GSM models coming from Motorola, I don't think we'll see this one in Cingular stores until they have included it as part of the "goodie bag" given to Oscar Award nominees & winners next March (that's 2007).

Re: Samsung SGH-x507 Where can I buy it??

Its available thru the business channel- you need to call them and not the consumer CS/Sales. I ordered on-line through a premire portal that my company has. I'll tell you this, however, after using the phone for about 6 weeks now I don't think its that good. The outgoing audio is really compressed like a tin-can sound and everyone says they can't hear you and that's because the consonants are getting clipped. People say "talk louder" but that does nothing ...

Cingular Premier Orders Only

This phone is available through the Cingular Premier channel. If your company has an employee program with them, you can log in and buy the phone but its treated the same as any other new plan or upgrade- i.e. a 2-yr agreement or renewal and then $49 (some may be more or less) for the phone. You can use this by entering your company email on the Cingular home page, where is checks the email domain and sends an email ...

The only information is rumors at this point. on HoFo, some people that "know" say late June or July. Cingular typically launches and/or runs sales during holidays and July 4 could be likely. However, most of us know that Cingular and its suppliers can let things slip for 6 months or more. Price - who knows but I'd guess less than when the RAZR came out at $400 (w/2-yr). The only thing that worries me about this handset after looking at ...

I was preparing to leave Cingular in search of CDMA and thin, RAZR-like handsets with a QVGA display but this one may keep me from leaving. Besides the big true color display, I like the actual buttons and simple layout of them. Maybe Q2 availability translates to July-August? Anyone know about the "summer promotions" this year?

Q- Any Metal or All Plastic?
Aug 3, 2005, 9:40 AM
in the Article: MOTONOW 2005 forum

Hope Rich can answer this as it seems he got to handle one at the event-- Does the Q have any metal like a RAZR or is the entire thing plastic? Seeing all of those pieces & seams leads me to think an all-plastic shell will be creaky & flimsy like the old T720/T730 (yuck!). The Blackberry has more of a molded shell making it a rather solid unit. Thanks--

I hit the same point you are at now last year in August- and I paid for two early termination fees to get out after 8 years with VZW. Everything was always "coming next quarter" and then it would be a dud or crippled version of what we read about on PhoneScoop. I'll take the insignificant hit in coverage to have access to better handsets. It's been great and I never looked back. Do it!

Yes- seems to be normal. Every one I've seen is this way. On my V600, the same thing happens but instead when you tilt the display up and down. Believe it or not, you'll get adjusted to it in a few more days. It drove me nuts at first but now I've almost forgotten about it.

Re: voice dialing
Jan 3, 2005, 11:39 PM
in the Motorola RAZR V3 forum

Are you saving your numbers to the SIM or in the phone's memory? You set that option up in each phone book entry (just above the voice entry). You cannot use voice dialing with numbers saved to the SIM, only in phone memory (its in the manual). And, if you enter them in the phone and later want to copy numbers to the SIM, the voice tags disappear because they are hardware-dependent.

Re: Strange charging and battery life behavior
Dec 30, 2004, 8:26 PM
in the Motorola RAZR V3 forum

I understand the differences in battery chemistry and charging requirements. However, you need to keep in mind the one common environmental condition that will destroy any battery: heat. Heat causes the water to evaporate from the cells and ruin the electrolyte thus reducing the cell's capacity and it's life. Long-term charging will do this even with Li Ion because you are keeping a small electrical current pulsing through the cells which creates heat due to the resistive losses. My reason ...

Re: Strange charging and battery life behavior
Dec 30, 2004, 2:52 AM
in the Motorola RAZR V3 forum

I think you're over-charging from the scenarios you describe. You really should not charge it full, pull it off, and then go and plug it back in again. And if I read your description correctly, "charging for several days"- does that mean on the charger for several days continuous? Too much if that's the case. You'll get the best performance and battery level reporting by using the device until there is 1 bar left or an indication of a low ...

Re: Voice Dialing Razr V3- HOW TO??
Dec 29, 2004, 2:27 AM
in the Motorola RAZR V3 forum

The flip needs to be open. You need to be on the home screen. Push and release the voice key (right side of display). Watch the count-down thermometer bar on the display and say the name. If it recognizes the spoken name, it will open the phone book to that entry and dial the number. Note that if you press and hold the voice key it will record a voice memo and not attempt to recognize a command. A few tips: ...

Re: my thoughtz

I agree with your comparison of the phone book and other software implementations. They could easily be improved but Motorola is staying with what they have and the only reason I can think is that it makes the transition to a new model much easier for former Motorola owners. This is the same thing Cadillac does with their interiors- keep the buttons & knobs where they are so potential new owners will feel right at home the first time ...

Re: hs-850 vs. hs-820
Dec 22, 2004, 8:36 PM
in the Motorola RAZR V3 forum

BIG difference in those two models. Not much difference in the 810 and 850. The 810 and 850 are better in terms of sound quality and ease of use. The 850 has superior battery life. The 820 is smaller but prone to noise issues due to the lack of a boom for the mic and no ear seal on the speaker. However, it's a little smaller.
