For all you naysayers....
The reason this phone is higher in price is because it includes the premium for the GPS maps up front, but you DO NOT have to pay for the service (including the voice turn-by-turn). In order to get the premium services (gas prices, movie times, etc.), you pay $5.99 a month for that. Personally, I think it's a good selling point for the phone and will make it decently popular for the people willing to shell out the cash ...
Re: what is worse
I'm slightly confused as to when race came into this conversation.....oh, that's right, when you brought it up. Unfortunately for you, I know several people that don't pay their child support, be they white, black, mexican, asian, etc.
Re: a little thing called CHOICE
Menno, I must say, good sir, you have become my favorite poster on this site!
Re: a little thing called CHOICE
People want $100 smartphones, yet they don't want to pay for the data plan, nor use more then 25% of the phone capabilities. If a company has a $600 phone they sell for $300, that's a HUGE DISCOUNT. There's no way for a company to justify that sort of a discount without it hurting them. I think if the phones weren't so cheap, it wouldn't be a big deal, but if they raised the price of the phones, people ...
Why don't all of us turn to prepaid providers?
That way, the big companies will either be forced to lower their prices, or be forced to just provide the tower space....but if they do that, won't they just charge these MVNO services more to use their network? I just wonder how this whole system works sometimes lol
Re: Actually- he does
Well, then, I guess I'm leaving these forums, as I just get told I'm stupid. Good day.
Re: A basic rundown...
Do you ever have anything positive to say about people? Notice I didn't tear apart your post line by line and point out every flaw. I gave my point of view, and you rejected it as 100% false. Sarcasm is lost on you, my friend.
Re: A basic rundown...
Here's part of why I think it's kind of dumb that the FCC is jumping in:
Is anyone being FORCED to use an iPhone? No.
It'd be different if everyone on AT&T were using an iPhone. But isn't this a product that Apple produced? And isn't the service being used to power the device AT&T (who pays to use the public property)? So pretty much if the FCC forces this application to be allowed, that's like saying the company literally ...
Re: this needs to stop
So companies are no longer allowed to make money? Please explain to me how this is fair for the consumer.
FCC = Gestapo
What in the world are they doing? If AT&T/Apple were to allow Google Voice to run on their phones, they could potentially lose millions. When did the FCC get so crazy?
Re: Too bad this is set for GSM
Darn, found my own proof lol

Re: Too bad this is set for GSM
Can you please provide some form of proof for this?
Re: ....what?
Hahaha, I remember showing that to a LG rep and proving her wrong, I felt bad though cause she blushed real bad lol.
Re: ....what?
Thank you for getting proof for me, my work computer is very picky on where we can visit lol.
Re: Too bad this is set for GSM
Found it:

Hope that works, typed it using the work computer from my cell phone browser lol
Re: ....what?
Verizon cannot make phone calls AND browse the web at the same time. Voice and data at the same time is not possible with CDMA. Granted, in order for GSM to handle it, you have to have 3g coverage, as it will not work on EDGE.
Re: Too bad this is set for GSM
I thought the Omnia II was slated for GSM/AT&T? I know I heard that somewhere, I'll try and find a link to post here.
Re: ....what?
Hmm....I have 3g service. I can make phone calls. I can browse the web. Heck, I can do both at the SAME TIME :o
Can Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile do that? Well, T-Mobile might be able to on their 3g network, but I can't be sure. Anyone know for a fact?
Re: Sounds like a couple of spoiled little children
Is it that hard to believe that MAYBE, just MAYBE the 2nd-largest cell phone provider in the US just might have decent signal?
Also, may I point out that AT&T only became 2nd place in customers when Verizon bought Alltel. If AT&T is this horrible, why is it that I don't know anyone on AT&T who complains constantly about their service, yet others I know that have Verizon don't get the same level of service?
....what?
AT&T already has the Eternity, and it's cheaper then this phone after rebates, not to mention the Eternity has a 3.0mp camera. Why did Samsung release this now?
Re: Sounds like a couple of spoiled little children
Hmm.....once AGAIN, because apparently I have to reiterate myself several times to all the Verizon lovers.
I have a Nokia E71x /w AT&T.
I have great coverage in the 75-mile range of places I go.
I get 3g in every single place I go.
I don't drop calls.
My internet speeds are good.
And I have yet to find a dead spot, even on the back roads.
Please stop telling me what kind of signal I receive, because I am NOT on 2g.
Re: Oh brother...
Considering that's EXACTLY what/where I was talking about as well, my point is still 100% valid. Nice try.
Re: Sounds like a couple of spoiled little children
Funny, I can make the exact same claim, and I have AT&T lol
Re: Looks nice but ...
Most people who use the internet on their phones, especially the HEAVY users (1GB+/month) tend to use PDA/Smartphone devices, and not standard phones. If their were one universal price for unlimited internet, it wouldn't be $30, but it sure would NOT be $10. Where do you think the companies get that extra cash to slightly subsidize the internet cost on standard phones?
Re: Oh brother...
I have yet to once experience this so-called "bad 3G network" AT&T has. I've lived in Texas for the last 10 years, but have visited friends and relatives in Kansas, Florida, Missouri, and Oklahoma for extended periods of time (1-2 weeks) and I don't get bad reception, the internet speeds are decent (albeit a bit slower during peak hours) and the experience is enjoyable.
I actually want to have a bad experience, so that way I can actually know what ...
Re: Oh brother...
I get quite a kick out of ads from AT&T lol.
I agree with you on the Sprint attacks, although theirs is at least somewhat truthful because technically, their plans ARE cheaper, but their service isn't what it used to be.
But in all reality, this is probably going to end in increased monthly costs for both companies =(
Re: how GPS works
Thank you very much for a concise description on how gps works, as I did not know anything about that. I suppose training sometimes blinds us lol.
Re: Looks nice but ...
See, this is where "arguments" start. When someone is rude for no reason whatsoever.
Re: Looks nice but ...
Now I reread a statement I made earlier where I said "the E71x does not have any standalone GPS capabilities", and I now realize I used the wrong word. It has the capabilities, but I do not know of any program that works with it, especially that accesses the GPS for free.
Re: Looks nice but ...
So you're saying that the average consumer can contact a satellite in space from their cell phone without paying one cent for it???? Somehow I don't buy that...
Google Maps is a application that uses triangulation to get a general fix (usually within 2 miles of your location, if I remember correctly), but it doesn't contact satellites at all.

Re: Looks nice but ...
Once again:
E71x = AT&T
E71 = sold by Nokia direct
Can you please clarify which phone you are talking about?
Re: Looks nice but ...
I own the E71x, which is the AT&T version, and I can confirm that this phone does not have any standalone GPS capabilities.....the E71 might, but that specific phone is not carried by AT&T.
I'm just not understanding how a phone can connect to a satellite in space and communicate without using some sort of internet connection.
Re: Looks nice but ...
Oh, so standalone, which is on phones that are not subsidized, connects directly to satellites using.......what exactly? a non-data connection???
Also, I did state that none of the phones that the CARRIERS have get standalone gps....
Re: Looks nice but ...
????? What are you talking about? The camera resolution is decent considering the PRICE, I don't know of any phone on a carrier that has free GPS, and the data plan requirement is only for the rebate, which is only $50. The wifi, on the other hand.....are you in that much of a hurry to wait an extra 5-10 seconds for a page to load?
Re: I told you so...
:o
I didn't think this country still had any educated people left in it....well put, good sir.
Re: Awsome!!!!
The blackberry-style push email works just like what you said (emails usually show up on the device before the computer), because it is sent to them as a pseudo text message. So comparing the push between the two would be having both phones in the area hooked up to the service and see which phone receives the email first, which from my experience tends to be the Blackberry. Then again, I've never ran a test myself =P
Did it just get cold in here?
:D
How has NO ONE mentioned the color??????
I mean.....wow. I'm just confused has to how this color was actually put onto a phone, and who would consider it attractive. Opinions?
Re: $30 "data plan" = messaging + data unlimited??
Are you absolutely positive? It doesn't specify what the "data plan" really is....it would just make sense price wise. I can't even imagine trying to sell THIS phone with a $30 data plan. It's not a cheap or bad phone, it's just very....user-specific lol.
$30 "data plan" = messaging + data unlimited??
That's what it looks like from my experience. It might just be required for the rebate (as in, only if you want to receive the rebate get that), which if it's what I'm thinking, that seems like a great deal!
I did play with a customer's phone (his son worked for Nokia) and the keyboard was pretty decent for the size. Not bad, Nokia.
