In all seriousness, that's probably all the towers AT&T owned in those states. It's really a rarity these days to see new towers being constructed unless it's in areas that don't have good/any coverage from ANY provider. 9 times out of 10 there's an existing tower or structure in the area that a carrier could locate on and meet their coverage objectives. These situations are usually encouraged by towns as well.
I mean, think about it. GTP owns over ...

I currently have a Samsung i730 running WM5 that really pisses me off. Constant lock ups and corruptions. Since I have a Mac anyway, I figured I should look at the iPhone and with iPhone 2.0 software, I have to say I'm impressed. However, does anybody know know if/when the iPhone will get the following things:
-copy/paste
-FULL MS Office (like on my Windows Mobile phone)
-a file brower
In response to your questions.
-Copy/paste Yes. I have heard the new iphone ...
Re: Why Even Have them?
Then why even have contracts if a clause or wording can simply be by-passed in a court of law.
The whole point of a contact is that there is a guarantee to the cellular company to get paid for said service, and to the customer to provide the service in its entirety.
The customer has the ability to look at the contract and say, "I don't like that; I will not sign." Ok lets say that they did ...
Re: whats ur beef with sprint
I totally agree Wimax is not 4G otherwise it would have been declared 3 years ago in Brazil.
http://www.wimax.com/commentary/spotlight/s potlight11-15-2005mw
WiMax is only new to the US. The other factor remains a constant that 2G, 3G, and 4G must be an evolution of cellular technology. Clearly this is not an evolution of Cellular but of Wireless Fidelity. (WiFi) This is Wifi with a 20-40 mile range.
Some people are declaring this 3G.

Extended Network Coverage
This is great. This would greatly improve network coverage. Here is how it will improve network coverage. The more calls a cell site takes to transmit a call the more coverage is lost, especially during peak demand time. This is why in large cities there is overlapping coverage so that the network can withstand the demand.
That being said if calls are being transfered to the Femtocell then the coverage increases. The same with data speeds are faster when ...

From what I understand about the switch operating system for most major networks, blocking text is an all or nothing deal. If you have an admin txt block thru the switch, nothing is coming thru to your phone, emergency or not. You would need a pay per use feature code on your account at least to receive. Most carriers I would like to think would not charge for emergency txts. /;|

no it won't. 4g might be done from a devolpment standpoint but no way deployed by then. Wimax will be but its not technicly a 4g network according to the info. LTE won't be deployed fully probably until 2014 is my guess.
4G would have to be an evolution of data in the cellular technology. Wimax is not an evolution in the cellular industry but rather the computer and networking industry. Wimax has been around for about ...

In the future however, it wouldn't surprise me to see a complete migration from the conventional voice channels to a VoIP system, meaning that all voice calls would be carried as data.
This has already been done. In Brazil and Argentina the have had Wimax for about 5 years now and use it in some cases more than that of standard cellular. It is usually around the bigger cities.

Sprint has:
The best DATA network. EVDO areas CRUSH any other internet network provided by other carriers for your phones. Including Verizons ridiculous network.
Sprints Simply Everything plan is better than anyone elses everything plan. For many reasons... but one that stands out is.. UNLIMITED ROAMING MINUTES.
Also Sprints Text plans are nationwide & freedom throughout other networks. You can send texts to whoever you want whenever you want. Not half of the amount that ...

Just curious, what would you refer to WIMAX as?
In my initial post I meant to say that, "Why Wouldn't LTE be defined as 4G."
I feel for there to be a 4G technology in cellular it needs to be just that. An evolution in Cellular data would need to be fourth Generation.Sony Ericsson Came up with a new EDGE that does 1.8 MBPS per second. LTE Does many Megabytes per second over cellular networks. This should be 4G an ...
Re: 4G. What is it, and how does he know what it is?
Argentina has had a WIMAX network since early 2006. Wimax has also been deployed over in Europe and Asia. The Argentinean WIMAX is not considered 4G or even has it ever been classified as 4G. I have no qualms about WIMAX. I have a friend that used VOIP and SIP phones while in Argentina and Brazil. It does simultaneous voice and data at relatively fast speeds. However, I do not see it as 4G because it is a replacement ...
4G. What is it, and how does he know what it is?
4G Has yet to be defined. So Mr. Hesse is going to define it as Wimax. Why would 4g be defined as LTE or something like that? IT has still yet to be defined so this guy has got some guts to commonly refer to WIMAX as 4G.

Re: upgrade policy
It Varies by market and other circumstances. One thig is in the Texas Market the UPG on avereage are 18 to 21 months into a 2 years service agreemnet.(I work for them I know) The Upgrades are also depended upon LTV (long term value) How long the customer has been with the company and payment history.
However, there is a big deciding factor in all of this. The actual upg time is determined by the customers ...
Re: Nokia the logical buyer?
Makes Sense. However, how do you feel that there would be an integration of product lines? Would Nokia do away with Hello MOTO all together or would they continue selling the handsets?
Having a possible gain by your theory; would Nokia manufacture more high-end phones for the US that will be fully compatible?
Just some thoughts and Questions.

Re: furthermore
I totally agree. I also feel that a two year contract is generous when compared to Canada's 3 Year contracts and it cost an arm and a leg to break the contract. They just got number portability did they see an increase from changing to other networks last year? A big Resounding NO!!!! Two years is very awesome comparatively.

I agree in Europe there are a lot of phone that have higer M Pixels than just 2. I remember a phone called the excute or something like that looked just like an Nokia N93 but had a 6 Megapixel Camera on it and could also take video. I try to get most of my phones from overseas from Nokia anyway. The higher megapixels are out there you just have to find them.

Voda does own 45% and Verizon 55%. What everyone is missing here is where is Google going to get the money to build out the network? With towers costing in excess of 1 million and thousands needed it would cost tens of billions to build out a nationwide network. Second does Google have the money to employ another 20,000-30,000 people to sell the network and products, maintain the network, staff a customer service organization, build out a billing ...
Start Something New
If Moto would start with a newer app friendly OS then they might sell but when going for style and nothing that is notably app friendly then what will be continued. People will only buy style untill the next fad comes.

Where do you get your info about the companies Assets? I am not a VZW Fan but; how do you know that Vodaphone (Who Owns 60% of VZW and main share holder) would not step up and supply the funds for the auction?
I still feel that GOOGLE has a better chance of winning due to the apparent interest from the start and having the funds in which to compete.

Re: Windows mobile to the Black Berry Curve
Nokia E61 will be upgrading to the Nokia N95. Symbian OS all the way. Over 100,000 Applications for Symbian Phones and counting. Open source so do not have to obtain licensing for program development. MS Mobile or Pocket PC must obtain license prior to development. Also, the Largest Phone manufacture in the WORLD and more media and data centric phones out there.

Re: Greedy pigs
There has never been any mandate that you must sign a contract. I have been working w/ Cingular/ AT&T Wireless and Mobility for over 4 years. There is no mandate to sign a contract however, there are set backs to not signing. Without signing you do not get mobile to mobile mins; this however can be added for $9.99.
Most stores will try to tell you that the minumum is 1 year contract. This is not so!!! ...

Will this redeem Palm as far as sales being down and market share? Palm has had great products, but not releasing media centric devices has crippled them. Foleo was a huge flop.

While Sprint may offer all those great things that does differiate them from the rest. If I remember it has been since the merger with Nextel that they began to offer these incentives to bring sales up after a dramatic loss from the merger.

What service do you use on the N95? AT&T, T Mobile?
My Condolences
I may not like Sprint but I still am a person that has Family and bills to pay. I work for AT&T and still this touches me. Anytime a company feels that by getting rid of employees and stores to cope for losses usually does not end up being very pretty. My sincere condolences for those of you out there that work for Sprint and I hope and pray that you might keep your jobs and if not that ...
Kaboom!!!!
Lets not forget that Hg is a compressed gas that is extracted form H2O. People that drop there phone run the risk of dropping one to many times and then your phone becomes a pocket bomb.
How do you explain the liquid damage. Oops I dropped my phone and now the Hg is leaking into the electrical components on my phone.
Considering
Considering Apple is a computer company that has just released a phone that is a pretty good accomplishment. The only other Computer Company that comes to mind is HP that has made a phone. However when you consider that Apple had to design another OS just for there Phone product then I find that to be good thing. HP used what was already available MS Mobile.
Apple using their own programmers and design team to come up ...
Re: Why Nokia is superior...
I totally Concur with the fact that Nokia is the best they have been the largest cellular manufacturing companies for years; and not to mention the company itself has stood the test of Time they were founded in 1898. We all remember back to the TDMA days where just about everyone had the Nokia 5165 or some variation of it. That is when they began to boom in the US however sales dropped off after that and European sales ...
SAMETHING SIX MONTHS AGO!!!!!
This is nothing new all the carriers did this six months ago to encourage bundles. Next year it will be over $.30 a text to send and receive a msg. Other words you got to buy a bundle or pay the huge price.
Surprise Surprise
This is just like Microsoft to copy something like Apple has done. Apple upgrades their os's every 18 Months. Howmany times have we seen things change for MS that was stolen from someone else. Firefox had their tabbed browsing and what did the 7th version of IE have tabbed browsing. MS always steals.
On a side note though this does keep the software industry competative and keeps them redesigning.
Re: legal?
What would it be like. I say crap on the phone and then laxitve ad comes streaming to my phone. I talk to my wife about maybe doing what married people do and comdom ads and Viagra come to my phone.
This Technology would be a total invasion of privacy.
Now if this was a service that you could subscribe to that was linked to a search engine that would be awesome.
On the Ball
I think that Qualcom is pretty on top of things and they saw that the end was near and did something about it instead of just waiting for the end to come and the decision to be made. 8O 8) :?
This is nothing NEW
This is an old phone that was used for GSM and now it has been conditioned to CDMA This is almost an exact remake of the F9100 that was offered by Cingular in 2005. Here is the link check it out. https://www.phonescoop.com/phones/phone.php?p =670
Re: What phones?
The Phones that would be affected on the AT&T Mobility side are as follows: Samsung (SGH) A707 Sync, SGH i607 Black Jack I&II Pretty much all Samsung's use Qualcomm but the majority of phone 3G enabled either use Broadcom or another vender for 3G Chipset. Some LG phones will be affected by this.
