Ready to switch to iPhone
Feb 22, 2008, 1:15 PM

I've been w/ AT&T (and it's various other versions) for over 10 years. I was briefly on Sprint PCS, but it was a disaster. My phone didn't work inside buildings, including my home, and since I do not have a land line, this was unacceptable. I ported back to AT&T less than a month later. Last June I purchased a brand new N75 at full price so that I wouldn't have to renew my contract. But I'm about to throw ...

I heard that!

No worries... I watched the whole thing unfold from San Francisco via Gizmodo, so I wasn't concerned about whether anyone believed me or not. If Steve says it's so, it's so. New at&t be damned. Figured they'd let you know eventually. The Apple Faithful, we listen to all that Jobso has to say b/c we're down like dat. 'Course, we were HOPING to hear about Apple iTunes getting the rights to the entire Beatles catalog that was going to be ...

Well, I'm in Los Angeles County (South Bay/Long Beach), and since Cingular & at&t became one again, my service is worse. How that's possible I don't know?! Basically, for a market as big as LA/Orange County, I get crappy signal most of the time, most everywhere. Ugh. Sprint is worse though & I refuse to migrate over to Verizon.

Not surprised. Apple LOVES to do this kinda thing. They just don't usually do it this soon.

Been there. Done that. Still nothing but one beep, at a whisper soft volume. I clearly got one of the N75's that has nothing but bugs & problems. Sigh. At least I didn't buy a brand new iPhone at full price, 1 month before they dropped the price $200. That would have sucked!

I sure hope so... I've had too many problems w/ mine to be happy with it for much longer. It's either beg a local store to replace it w/ a new one, or try a different phone. I really, really wanted to like this phone, but all the shutdowns and dropped calls and freezes are starting to wear thin.

Apple is dropping the price of the 8G iPhone by $200 and discontinuing the 4G iPhone altogether. When will the at&t site put this huge news up I wonder? There's going to be a few irate customers out there when this news goes wide release.

Well, it's official. The 4GB iPhone is going away, and the 8GB iPhone will drop in price by $200. Wowzers to all those who bought an iPhone right out of the gate. I'd be crying in my soup over that one.

You shouldn't have to put a 1 in front of the area code, I've never done so, & I've never had any problems w/ names showing up on caller ID. The bigger issue I have w/ my N75 is that the caller ID is inconsistent w/ the cover closed. Sometimes when a call or text comes through I can see the info on the front screen, other times, not at all until I open the phone. Despite all the crazy inconsistent ...

Sorry, that just hasn't been my experience. I've had several Nokia phones & I've never had a problem hearing the alarm. I've tried to change the settings on the N75 to no avail. My alarm beeps twice, very faintly, and never makes another sound after that. Which really sucks b/c it means I can't rely on my phone as an alarm clock.

As far as I can tell, just the thumbnail is available w/ the phone. Don't know about 3rd party software options. Cheers.

Re: Current Firmware Version ...???

Mine is an N75 Cingular branded phone. I have dropped calls, static, white noise, popping, screen freezes, need to reboot regularly, etc. all the time. If this firmware update would help, I'd be all for it, otherwise I'm about ready to chuck this phone in the trash. Current: V 10.1.273 Purchased phone from AT&T corporate store (Seal Beach CA) in early June 2007.

Anyone been able to figure out how to get the alarm clock to actually sound off loud enough to wake you up? I've tried everything, in every type of profile, and I cannot get it to do more than beep at the lowest volume. This really sucks! Suggestions?

Re: Frozen ... can shut down, can't call, nothing!

Thanks, I ended up doing just that, and it DID come back to life. But what's frustrating is that I've only had the N75 for less than a month & I've had a lot of problems with it... dropped calls (YES, dropped calls - i.e. full strength bar signal, calls ended with no drop in bars), people not being able to hear me, though I can hear them (or vice versa), static, white noise, not being able to shut ...

Frozen ... can shut down, can't call, nothing!

My N75 just froze. The screen says my BF is calling, but I can't answer it, can't disconnect, can't reboot, can't power down, nothing. I can't get a single function to come up. How do I shut it off, or make it get UN-stuck? This is not the first time this has happened, just never had it happen where I couldn't un-stick it. HELP!?! C ~

Btw, this is in comparison to a Sanyo M1 that I had for 2 weeks. That phone also has a 2.0 MP camera, and was simple to point and shoot with. Pictures of my 11 month old, who NEVER sits still, were awesome. Clear, crisp, rarely had to use the flash feature unless it was evening in the house of course. Perhaps I don't have the settings programmed correctly, but this camera is far more difficult to use straight out ...

My N75 takes horrible pictures. G-d forbid your subject moves even a little, the shutter is much too slow to capture the image w/o blurring. Terrible.

I've been a Cingular/AT&T customer for almost 8 years now, minus the 2 weeks I went to Sprint. I would TOTALLY pay $400 for a phone, if it did everything I wanted/needed it to do, and I have to say, this phone looks pretty spectacular. Much better than the N75 I just got last weekend. Btw, there is no insurance coverage for the N75 either. Not that I'd have purchased it if there was. What a waste of ...

Thanks Chainsaw. I've thought about moving over to Verizon -- that was probably where I should have started, but my daughter's father is on Sprint, so it seemed like a good idea given how much we're on the phone (he lives in another state). Thanks for the recommendation about the Sony phone too. It's too bad about the M1, I'm really liking the phone after using it almost a week now. But I've discovered that Sprint coverage here in Long Beach ...

Thanks for the suggestion... was a little concerned about how I'd drop the service w/ Sprint and switch back to Cingular (or go to Verizon) and not have interrupted service since I don't want to lose my number -- it's been my number for a long time! :) Cheers

Gee, I thought it would be far POORER etiquette to start a whole new thread when there was already one about this topic in existance. At least that's how I run the boards I moderate. But to each his own apparently. Secondly... I'm not an idiot, nor is MY decision to leave Cingular "ridiculous". What a presumption on your part. You don't know how much research I've done here, or on other websites. You don't know who I've talked ...

I left Cingular this past weeekend b/c I was having at least a 1/2 dozen dropped calls a DAY (I live in Los Angeles County along the coast). After many years of this problem, I was sick of it, and since everyone I know with Sprint or Verizon never seems to complain of this problem I thought I'd try one of them. I started w/ Sprint. Haven't had any dropped calls yet, but I get NO signal in my house ...
