Re: How's the keyboard compared to original Droid?
Aug 14, 2010, 3:50 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

There were at least two keyboards released on the original droid, the original original had a flat keyboard that had like a peice of rubber with small grooves seperating the keys, then there is at least one other with plastic buttons that are slightly raised. The keyboard on the droid 2 is like the second droid keyboard, only the layout is different. It is a huge improvement over the original droid's keyboard but its pretty much the same as the ...

Re: I do not recommend this phone

I think the last line of the engadget review sums it up pretty well: If you're just looking for the baddest-ass Android phone on Verizon that money can buy, we'd recommend a Droid X or Droid Incredible any day over this, especially since all three are the same price -- unless you're hell-bent on going with a physical keyboard, of course. Both of those other handsets offer superior cameras, a better UI (in the case of the Incredible), and a ...

The wifi on it is by far weaker than the original. I am sitting here picking up 8 wifi networks on my droid and only 3 on my droid 2... the one whos in my house, where the router is 10 feet from me is showing 4 bars on my droid 1 and only 2 bars on my droid 2... something is screwed up

I do not recommend this phone
Aug 14, 2010, 1:28 PM
in the Motorola Droid 2 forum

Coming from the original Droid, this phone is a major let down. I got the droid 2, thinking it was just going to be a minor improvement. The lag on changing screens and opening and closing apps, and the lag in the browser adjusting were all minor annoyances so I figured I would upgrade as this phone has more memory and a faster processor... Moto claims it listed to its customers to design this phone, but I highly doubt that. Rather ...

Aug 14, 2010, 1:05 PM

the faster processor is only noticable for certain items, the UI runs slower than the original, which is just annoying. While the keyboard is usable the sensitivity on the screen was improved so typing on the screen is easier and thus still negates the need for the keyboard. The first droid was already updated to 2.2 The weight difference is hardly noticable The smooth edges are nice, so it feels nicer and the battery cover is much tighter so it doesnt fall off ...

the droid x is going to have the exact same problems, since the problem I have is the moto blur overlay and the crap preinstalled applications. For some reason Motorola thinks their blur interface is a good thing, so thus they force it on you and it doesnt appear to have a way to disable it. the phone also comes with multiple apps preinstalled that you can not uninstall that you cant turn off (if you close them they open ...

droid 2 has some problems. Texting on it sucks, I cant find a way to adjust the settings and it shows your messages in these giant bubbles that take up far more space than the message itself. Emails are displayed in list format only showing 6 per page instead of 8 like on the original. The stupid phone does not even appear to be able to view some htlm emails as it shows some html emails as being attachments, ...

I got the droid 2.. mine is going back as it cant do some of the basic things the droid 1 can do.. like read html based emails. On the droid I could read these without a problem, on the droid 2 they show as an attachment to a blank email and I get a message that the attachment is too big... not sure why 158kb is too large for an attachment, but just goes to show how big ...

I cant remember the details of the promo, but I think the droids are buy one get any other device of equal or lesser value free. Call customer service and check on the droid buy one get one offer details, if it is buy one get any free, you can just get both on the 29th for the price of one (you will have a $100 mail in rebate though) It isnt likely that the droid's price will drop, even ...

Just because he was a 10 year customer, it doesnt mean he is telling the truth. Several parts of his story seem like total BS he is writing to try to make his experience seem more entertaining. This is a person writing on a website intended to get people to come back and read more, and thus needs to be entertaining. VZW reps are trained to not say anything bad about the competition, when dealing with customers reps are to ...

Dont get the phone if you dont want to use that feature of it :P Its just like you dont buy a blackberry if you dont want data services on it... VZW just needs to fix the phones in the catagory, need to remove lg vx8630 and vx9200

If you wernt a newbie to the wireless industry you would know that VZW for years has quoted spending over 5 bil a year into the network, this year it was updated to 5.5 per year. The ammount being invested has been increasing year over year.

Re: Best phone for Verizon?
Apr 19, 2010, 12:42 AM
in the Verizon forum

There is not an answer to your question. The "best" phone is subjective as it comes down to the needs and wants of the user. For some people the Moto W766 is the best phone, for others the Blackberry Curve 8530 and even others the Droid by Motorola. You best bet is to make sure you are eligible for an upgrade, then go into a VZW store and speak to a sales rep. Tell him/her exactly what you use your ...

If you only care about messaging then the EnV touch isnt for you, as it requires a data plan. If you are looking for just a texting phone look at the LG cosmos or the Samsung Intensity. The EnV touch is a great phone though, I still use one for my work phone and a droid for my personal. If you want a phone that is great for texting and web browsing, but dont want a full smartphone the EnV ...

I would have to suggest the G'Zone Rock, nice hard plastic exterior, it may take a swing or two more than the droid to take the target down, but at least the phone will still be fully functional afterwards. And that does make the best weapon right, one you can keep re-using?

He does claim he works for AT&T though, and he says he knows AT&T uses T1s. He is just helping to backup the reason AT&T has so many network problems, it isnt just the lack of cells its a retarded backhaul ;)

A lot of data cards to get used outside the big cities though, it is one of the reasons Sprint and VZW have more data cards than AT&T, customer that need the things want to make sure they are going to have a broadband connection, which AT&T cant provide to them in a lot of places. It doesnt change the fact that AT&T wasnt prepared to have that many people using data connections at the same time. VZW or Sprint ...

Things other than smarthphones transfer data.. Sprint has a far larger percentage of customers using data services than AT&T does. Do you know why carriers put the 5GB caps on data cards and not on smartphones? My guess is you dont. I am not going to tell you why, as anyone with half a brain can figure it out, and it isnt because data cards arent used as much...

to be clear, VZW has spent more, currently AT&T spends more. I think they spent something like 18 bil last year on expanding their network while VZW did not. AT&T is still trying to play catch up

wow, AT&T execs really do just live in their own little world... have they never asked themselves why sprint has the higest ARPU? It sure in hell isnt because sprint has the same breakdown of device users that AT&T has. AT&T is getting its number out of its ass, by having no clue how the other carriers work while ABI looked into how the carriers work to do its estimates. for every iphone pulling in 20 gigs a month there ...

no, CDMA has lower upkeep cost per subscriber than GSM. an individual cell might cost more to upkeep, but you need less of them so it comes out to cost less

You would have the check the user manual, its something the phone can turn on and off. Only the Verizon Pre can do it, its pretty much what the "plus" part of its name is. it just forms a wifi hotspot that up to 5 other devices can hookup to that will use the Pre's internet connection

Re: Wrongo

GSM is more costly to maintain, not less. GSM requires more sites per users and thus in high population areas is a more costly tech.

They are smart phones, they are running a modified version of windows. They are designed for constant internet connections, so unlimited data will be required. They will probably sell poorly and be discounted down to free within a few months of launch. They are made to target a small target group and I really dont see them doing that great. They are targeting the social networking adicts, people that have to be checking their facebook and twitter 24hrs a day.. ...

Any stores that are still Alltel are going to stay Alltel until a new carrier buys them, those are the ones that VZW did not buy.

LTE has nothing to do with GSM other than it being picked as the evolution path by whatever the group is called that picks paths for GSM carriers. LTE has nothing to do with GSM tech wise, they are not even remotely the same. Go look up what LTE is. The standard is being designed to easily overlay with existing GSM infrastructure, which just means VZW has to modify the system slightly to work with the CDMA infrastructure. CDMA ...

AT&T never had supporting evidence to support their fewest dropped calls claim, and were sued by multiple parties, including government bodies over the claim. It had nothing to do with the iphone, it had to do with their marketing department telling flat out lies. You really need to read up on how CDMA works compared to GSM, you are comparing apples to oranges here. VZW or Sprint would not have had the same issues AT&T did because of network design. ...

1..You are still getting things wrong, I think what you are meaning to say is the currently deployed EVDO networks dont match the speed of HSDPA+ networks (which is what AT&T and Tmobile are deploying. VZW and sprint could have matched those speeds by progressing through EVDO Rev B and Rev C, but they didnt bother, they both desided it was a better investment to jump right to a 4G tech. Take a look at the capabilities of EVDO ...

You seriously need to take like 10 mins and go look up what you are talking about. There is no such thing as a 4G GSM or 4G CDMA as neither meets the 4G standards, which is where LTE, UMB and WIMAX come in.

Re: Wrongo

1... GSM is a voice only service. The other techs you are talking about are add ons to GSM to let it do things CDMA can already do. CDMA has had multiple revisions, it is a newer tech overall and is superior to GSM and its add ons. btw, WCDMA and UMTS are the same thing.. 2.. look into how AT&Ts data system works, a single device on their network requires a larger percentage of the network capacity than a ...

Not a matter of knowing what they were viewing, but a matter of the type of connection such as mobile web, the get it now store front, or an already installed application doing transfers. The systems track each one separately so they can be identified if needed, but customer service is not given access to see it. For example if a ticket is opened to the billing group the exact type of transfer can be identified.

If a customer is being charged for MMS on a smartphone as KB use, there is a billing error happening.MMS messages should never be counting towards data use for a line, regardless of the type of device. "should" being the keyword, as there have been multiple billing issues over the years where they have gotten counted incorrectly as MB or KB use.

also backup assistant should be both free to download and use. I think the way it works is that when you download backup assistant the system ignores the first MB of data used for that month. (I am not positive, I read at one point how it made it free but I dont remember exactly)

No, there was no backup assistant as she was on another carrier before I got her the phone for my account.
