obsolete chip to throttle speeds?
Jul 9, 2009, 11:55 PM
in the Apple iPhone 3GS forum

http://www.wired.com/gadgetlab/2009/07/slow-c hip-iphone3gs/ An obsolete chipset in the 3gs limits upload speeds? Isn't it pathetic enough to put the iPhone on AT&T but they have to limit the speed by the hardware? Was this at AT&T's request?

Re: verizon callcenter

ours is a bit different Senior reps get all the same calls as regular reps + difficult ones based on what the customer chooses in IVR. In the West we have a loyalty team that takes disconnect requests, but if no one on the specialty team is available it rolls to the senior reps, which is with some regularity from what i hear. Tech/coordinators take tier 2 tech & voice. Tech can take tier 2 voice but not all voice ...

hopefully you'll at least have transfer opportunity. even a supervisor will take calls at vzw if the hold time gets too high. i'm in tech and we have care calls roll over to cut down the customer's hold time if we're not in queue ourselves. (we love care calls, they're soooo easy)

new palm os?
Nov 13, 2008, 7:58 PM

I talked to one of the Palm reps this summer and he mentioned Palm was working on a new OS for their phones. In theory news should be out the end of this year with new phones launching early 2009. Lovely, I'm dying here, anyone have any news? Assuming anyone looks at this board.....

Re: glyde, voyager or env2 for stronger signal?
Jul 27, 2008, 11:49 PM
in the Verizon forum

There's a big difference between the HTML browser on the Voyager and Dare and Mobile Web on the ENV2 and other 'regular' phones. The HTML browser is still not as robust as your PC, but it's getting close. It's all those annoying little plugins that your PC already has and the HTML browser may or may not. Mobile Web is a portal really, a workaround to internet access. I was able to get it to work ...

Is there any evidence Verizon didn't have a plan to pay for the auction? As mentioned its a profitable company with assets to make a loan probable. It's also owned by two strong parent companies. This purchase doesn't exactly diminish it's oeverall value either.

the other carriers don't have to pay someone off to make sprint disappear, sprint's killing itself all on it's own. while i did giggle a bit at the unbelievably bad luck sprint continues to have, i really don't think this ruling was fair and reasonable at all.

Never get the cheap phone, they don't last. The phone manufacturers (nothing to do with the carrier)do not install the same quality of componants into a $200 phone (retail) as a $300 phone. Look at the relative retail costs and how old the model is. Even if it has features you might not use, go for the best phone you can afford. Especially if you plan on using a lot of minutes or text. The bargain basement phones are ...

costco activation fee refund
Apr 28, 2008, 10:11 PM
in the Verizon forum

If someone starts a line of service at Costco, then has another VZW customer take over that line before the activation fee is waived, will there still be a credit for the activation fee on the (now inactive) account? The rep and costco still get credit for the activation/contract because it isn't being disconnected, just a name change.

Re: Turning the Data connection off of my Treo 650
Apr 9, 2008, 10:56 PM

Not that I'm aware of on the phone itself but VZW can block data for you at no cost. It will block MMS but not SMS or calls. Otherwise when I see this on the phone it's frequently hitting it by accident (make sure the internet isn't on one of your buttons and that your screen lock is on both off & on calls) or there's a third party application that is updating without your knowledge. At ...

Re: Blackberry vs. PDA
Mar 12, 2008, 12:04 AM
in the Verizon forum

Blackberry Enterprise Server(BES) is software that links a Blackberry with a Microsoft Exchange Server. It syncs wirelessly between outlook & the phone for calendar, contacts, and email. So if you get a Blackberry, you'll need that extra bit of software. Blackberry.com has a basic rundown and pricing, but most important is make sure your IT dept is up to it. VZW doesn't acutally support BES. It doesn't usually give too much trouble if you've got a good ...

Re: Blackberry vs. PDA
Mar 11, 2008, 8:27 PM
in the Verizon forum

Also, you can do all of the above with a 'regular' phone. You don't need a PDA. Mobile web is one option, the Voyager has an HTML browser, so if you're price sensitive over time, $15/mo is even better than $30.

Re: Blackberry vs. PDA
Mar 11, 2008, 8:25 PM
in the Verizon forum

The $29.99 does not include enterprise server capability, so on the Blackberry you are forced to manually sync with your desktop/outlook. The PDA's will do wireless sync which syncs with an internet site and you rarely will need to mess with cables and pc's. Of course if you're tethering to a laptop, the data price is the same either way. And if you decide you don't need data after all you can remove the data pack on pda's but ...

Re: Anybody with txtin problems?
Mar 11, 2008, 1:56 PM
in the Verizon forum

Text should be 160 characters, including address. Except enhanced msg svc capable phones, they'll take 1,000 characters. If it's another VZW phone it's easy to tell, if not then the other carrier may have difficulty. In either case, if it's a matter of an ems message to a phone/carrier that may not be ems capable, VZW kicks back an error message. The text is still sent, but the format may change (such as signature dropped or cutoff)

Re: is it just me or is this the lamest excuse for a runaround...?

in the Verizon forum

There is a form for features being added without consent. I've never used it so I can honestly say I don't know what's on it or what the turn around time is. Indirects aren't all bad, there is a reason for them, and I tend to like to work with them when they call. I think a lot of Verizon employees get worked up about the indirects because so many of them sell more than one service and ...

side note on data plans & Blackberry
Mar 10, 2008, 11:43 PM
in the Verizon forum

PDA's can be activated without a data plan with the exception of Blackberry. A Treo, Q9M, 6800, whatever can be on a pay as you go. No cost unless you use it. If you use it, you're pretty much screwed though. it's 1.5 cents/kb and trust me it adds up unbelieveably fast. And data pacakages cannot be backdated to get you out of trouble. I always recommend an unlimited plan for the first two months to ...

Um, hello? It was a joke. I'm very sorry telesales didn't give you the experience we would have expected. At first I thought, wow, what are the odds of so many problem reps, but after seeing that rant I have to wonder if hanging up was unwarrented. VZW employees will not tolerate abusive callers. I don't know the rules for telesales, but customer care is told to transfer - with or without permission - if someone ...

Ammendment on data plans
Mar 10, 2008, 11:12 PM
in the Verizon forum

Blackberry data can be $29.99 for unlimited data if you're not using global or an enterprise server. That being said, do not get a blackberry if you do not have an enterprise server at work (too expensive to be a personal option) and do not have a computer to sync it with and if you are unwilling to sync it regularly. Be honest with yourself on this point. If you do not back up your smartphone you will eventually ...

Cool, you txt in code. No,seriously, I haven't seen that issue on the Voyager, but I'm not where I can check if it's a previously encountered issue. Two things: leave it on and take the battery out, count to 10, put it back. Then when it powers on dial *228 and choose option 1. Test it. If it's still misbehaving I'd call in on it. Unless there's an alert in your area it's the phone.

Mar 10, 2008, 10:13 PM

I'm in a call center. Mostly the same. You won't get a business phone to start though, that's supervisor & above. You do get discounts and (possibly, unfortunately) a phone addiction. Like phones? Good, a lot of people I work with collect them. Handy for family members who get hand me downs though. And when you meet up with friends/family be prepared for them to hand you their phone (whatever carrier) to fix. You'll have a good chance of ...

Re: 6 calls to Verizon Customer service and STILL NO HELP!!!
Feb 24, 2008, 11:49 PM

I can readily understand a hesitation to call customer care again, there's really no excuse for not getting it resolved in the first call, or even the second. I agree with vzwkelly, go with the website and the internet response team or call data support. Level2-4 blackberry support have been there long enough to understand and not to shy away from the problems you're describing. Typically there are system checks to prevent the wrong feature or duplicates from being ...

I suspect either new info on activating sprint/alltel phones or possibly ptt changes. there's been hints on both for awhile now, but no actual info. whatever, kudos for sales/marketing for being able to keep the secret.

Re: What's happening on the 18th?
Feb 14, 2008, 7:49 PM
in the Verizon forum

A friend signed up for some training about the 18th announcement, I think it was from sales. The information was vague though and he wasn't able to get any training times before the 18th, so I still won't know. So...something from sales that they want to give call centers training on. I agree it's unlikely to be analog, it's a known issue so there's no reason to be secretive. The open network bit shouldn't be it yet though because ...

I'm fine if vzw stopped selling motorola
Feb 14, 2008, 7:40 PM
in the Verizon forum

I remember troubleshooting the original Motorola phones before the overlay. I also remember troubleshooting Samsung & LG before. I also deal with all of them now. I'm fine with saying goodbye to Motorola if VZW is. It's fine and dandy to blame the problems on the VZW overlay, but I find it terribly amusing that Motorola can't overcome the problems on their phones that LG and Samsung, much smaller companies, can overcome. Sounds like making excuses to me.

Avoiding activation fees
Feb 9, 2008, 8:17 PM
in the Verizon forum

I have a friend who's willing to take on a 1y contract, and has a VZW phone, but doesn't want an activation fee. You can't activate and existing phone online that I could see, and Costco refuses to recognize a 1y contract exists, so where else can he activate an existing phone for 1y w/o an activation fee?

Re: Riddle me this.. simcards work?
Dec 2, 2007, 3:58 PM
in the Article: What "Any App, Any Device" Really Means forum

Simcards are for GSM phones, right now VZW is CDMA. Even the global phones that have simcards don't pick up the GSM bands used in the U.S. The 4g network should allow GSM is my understanding, but I admit I'm basing that off of limited information at this point. So, not in the near future, but out there a bit, maybe.

Re: late voice mails what is the cause?
Nov 2, 2007, 9:21 PM
in the Verizon forum

As of Nov 1, on the National Plans, the regular phones are supposed to be able to access the national enhanced data network, part of extended network. Before then they didn't. Ever notice you couldn't send or receive a pix msg while roaming? PDA's could, now other phones can. You're right, voicemail notification is just a special text, but it still didn't process off the network. Usually, on rare occasion it did seem to, as did ...

Re: late voice mails what is the cause?
Nov 2, 2007, 9:16 PM

Sounds like it's not the same issue with just a late notification. I'm going to venture we've done a warrenty exchange on the BB, right? And given your obvious frustration, I'll go out on a limb here and say it didn't help. If the phone doesn't show a missed call and is getting a good signal, then it is possibly a call delivery issue. It's not common but it happens. Is this happening everywhere or just ...

Re: BB to Env

The Mobile Email option in Get It Now will check a good number of web-based email and pull it to the phone. You have to go into Get It Now and launch the application to read it, and it will let you reply or create new messages. There is a notification option. Prior to this application, there were a variety of similar programs in Get It Now, or people logged into their email from Mobile Web. ...

Re: Basic Blackberry Question
Nov 2, 2007, 6:47 PM

Blackberry is more stable but you'll have a learning curve. Also, if you do a lot of memos, consider the keyboard. I'm quite fond of the 8830, the most frequent issues I run into is people not knowing how to use it. Odd since we have 'manual in motion' demos on all of the advance devices at vzw.com/data. Obviously you know the Palm OS so that will be familiar. Personally I consider Palm to be more stable than ...

Re: Price wise is it worth it to have a PDA and data
Nov 2, 2007, 6:27 PM
in the Verizon forum

Most of the phones will allow mild browsing with mobile web anyway and a couple of methods for email. A PDA is a larger investment up front, and a higher ongoing fee if you're using data. If you don't need the additional features PDA's offer, why spend the money? PDA's are also a lot more sensitive and require more care and maintainance on your part.

Re: BB to Env
Nov 2, 2007, 6:21 PM
in the Verizon forum

The EnV will do email via mobile email, mobile web or wireless sync. Wireless sync is mainly designed for PDA's and it just isn't the same on regular phones, plus it's $20 instead of $5 so I'd go with one of the other options. Personally I'm a big mobile web fan. I'll be honest, I rarely used the options listed on the home page, I put Google in as a favorite and went there immediately when I ...
