The act of a true great saleman. You have to believe in what you are selling, to be successful. Your demo will prove your faith in this case!

Re: Is the BREW OS working better than it was in the Spring?

Exactly what I have been seeing. On paper, it seems like the HTC Freestyle should be a great smartphone-like feature-phone that does not require a data plan. Most new phones will have some problems. So I keep thinking that these bugs will be sorted out. But BREW is a tender young operating system.

in the Article: Apple Seeks to Patent Thinner Headphone Jack forum

Nokia swam against the current for years with their smaller headphone jack. All they accomplished was to make folks mad. Because Apple can sell swamp water to a Cajun, maybe they will succeed and "reinvent" and rename the Nokia headphone jack.

Is the BREW OS working better than it was in the Spring?

I read some sad accounts of BREW phones being unstable, this past Spring. I was pondering the HTC Freestyle for my teenagers. Does anyone have any good (or bad) experience to share on using these phones or BREW OS?

Thanks IrishCarBomb, You (and Hobble) have convinced me! Now I just have to muster up enough discipline to hold out until HTC releases a dual core LTE device! (Maybe the Vigor?)

Re: U.S. calling plans (when in Canada) seem to be appearing?

That makes sense. 2010 was a busy year for me so I just wasn't looking. But after struggling with this issue for a decade, every time I visited family in Canuckland, I now don't have to pay a buck a minute for fees!

A couple years ago, AT&T's response to me was that they had no Canadian plans available for my region (Baton Rouge). So I'm not sure when this option became available for me. I have also been able to get rid of my Canadian long-distance plan for my landline, with this new mobile plan.

Thanks, Hobble. I appreciate your input, again! I think being able to mod my Android will be an important feature for me. An HTC phone is looking more and more like the right choice. These open platforms verses closed systems (including the iPhone) reminds me of the mid-eighties battle between the PC and Mac. We were able to build PCs, modify the Bios, choose operating systems, and apps. Every PC could be quite different. Being able ...

U.S. calling plans (when in Canada) seem to be appearing?

in the Canada forum

As a Canadian who has been stuck in muggy and hot-as-hell Louisiana for many years, I have been shocked at my phone bill after every visit to my family in Canada. The combination of roaming and long distance has been about a buck per minute! And I could find no carrier with a plan available in Louisiana that could reduce this cost.....until now...I think. I have just signed up for a new Canadian plan on AT&T that should help. ...

Which Android manufacturers have the least trouble with bugs?
Jul 28, 2011, 8:35 PM

I keep reading comments from androiders complaining about their phones crashing and rebooting without warning, etc. This has to be a software issue, eh? So who consistantly makes an android that is stable and reliable? Do I need to root the thing to get rid of bloat in order to acheive stability? Or do I have to get last year's model to get mature software?

I think AT&Ts plan makes sense for them
Jul 22, 2011, 8:44 PM
in the Android forum

It makes sense for AT&T to build a solid HSPA+ network first so that they can construct a more reliable network, backfilling LTE after that. Because Verizon has a leg up on them with LTE in lots of places right now, I am tempted to switch carriers (LTE just came to my town this week). But I have six phones on my account! It always seems like the phone that I should get is six months away!

None of AT&T phones will work on their LTE system?
Jul 20, 2011, 4:00 PM
in the Android forum

I think I just figured out that non of AT&Ts 4G phones will ever work on their LTE system (different from Verizon's LTE) when they finally complete their backfill. Say it ain't so! If this is true, then I bet a bunch of folks are buying 4G units right now, thinking that they will eventually be able to reap the benefits of AT&T's LTE system later!

Thanks Hobble, IrishCarBomb, and Jellz. This is the kind of info you can't find in the specs. More than once, I have been horrified, after making a decision based on specifications, that I have bought a poorly thought-out, badly put together device!

You can select any song with a file size less than 600 kB for your ring tone. There are a few cases where digital rights copy protection will block you from modifying or shortening files (to get down to 600 kilobytes).

I think your reviewer is mistaking the charging port (located on the left side) for a head-phone jack.

That makes sense. And good point about the price difference. It would take alot of goodies to make choosing unlocked worth it just for trinkets alone. They would have to add a buch of chocolates too.

The FM radio is there, but you must connect a wired headset through the pop-port because the headset wires double as the FM antenna.

I actually have to turn the volume down to keep it from being too loud! Sound quality seems a step above other phones that I have tried. Note that the antenna is at the bottom of the phone, so it is best to hold this phone in the middle when it is open. But even though I keep forgetting this, reception hasn't been a problem.

The Nokia 6126 has the option to push a button to open the phone (hang on to the phone or else it can launch out of your hand). The N75 has no such button. Being a heavier phone, if it did, the phone would flip to the floor every other time you opened it! I have checked out every orfus and crack on my N75, and can find no place to plug in headphones except through the famous ...

After exploring this phone through the wee hours of last night, I am still impressed: The 2.4-inch interior screen is stunning. The external screen is better than most phone main screens. And the keypad works for me. I have large hands, so I appreciate the real estate devoted to this. PC Magazine and Foshizzzzzzzle call the phone clunky, but I think it's just right. You can't put a 2.4" screen in a 6126 case. ...

It showed up 5-1/2 hrs earlier than that! But I just couldn't cancel everything in my life to play with this thing. Being a grown-up sucks sometimes. I really like the size, shape, & keys. It's charged up and waiting for me...calling out to me.... I think I will end up staying up all night exploring my new toy. More later.

I just happened to check Cingular's site last Thursday night at about 11:00 PM (central time) and found that ordering the N75 was an option. By the middle of the next day, Cingular had removed the phone from their site because they were temporarly out of phones.

The box included a USB data cable, AC charger (w/ smaller connector like the 6126), Nokia PC Suite CD, and 3G sim card. The sim card was already installed in this one. I was expecting to find a 1 GB micro SD memory card, but there was none. No headphone adapter was included and I can find no 2.5mm/3.5mm hole so you must use that wonderful pop-port with your own adapter, or use bluetooth. The ...

I think I got my order in six minutes after yours, Foshizzzzzle, so I guess I should try a little complaining too, to get a better deal. But the best deal I can think of would be to get the bluming phone!

Re: Cingular Website - ordered - no stock? - maybe next week ?

I ordered mine from Cingular.com at 11:30PM, central time (Baton Rouge), Thursday night(this converts to 12:30AM Friday Eastern). And now the order status page for the handset states that it is BACK ORDERED. So even though I ordered it last night, I still have the same back order status as some are getting that just ordered it at mid-day. I'll let you know how it works out.
