Information I've read indicates that the Symbian OS can do more with "lesser" processors than the competition can with their OS/processor combination. And have you seen the sample photos taken with this phone??? I saw some at All About Symbian. I was mightily impressed.

Actually, I think that's cheaper than I expected. Unsubsidized phones cost a pretty penny anyway. I was exptecting this one to come in over $500.

in the Article: Nokia to Shutter U.S. Flagship Stores forum

Another site stated that closing the stores will allow them to focus on sales and working with carriers. I think for Nokia that was the missing piece. I have been frustrated for a looooong time about the lack of higher end phones available from AT&T (and then they got the e71x). Nokia is doing the same thing the auto makers had to do - tighten that belt and refocus!

I personally have yet to find a phone that feels better held to the ear than a regular landline phone (yes, I still have one). The slightly curved headset must be what does the trick for me. Many people use a bluetooth headset instead of suctioning their cell phone to the ear, so a square shape shouldn't matter much. It's good to see carriers are picking up some of Nokia's uniquely designed phones. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that in ...

I don't understand all this. I have used unlocked phones on my AT&T account and they never can tell what type of phone I'm using. I am very happy with using only WiFi as I don't feel the need to be connected all the time. I will continue to buy unlocked phones when the prices go down and just will never renew my plan. The unlocked phone I'm considering right now has dropped to about $230. Considering I paid ...

Screen protector recommendations?

I dropped my e71x in a parking deck. (Until I get a new case, I promise to maintain a death grip on this baby.) The deck floor was less than smooth. My phone landed face down and now has some ugly nicks. Because the screen is nearly flush, the screen suffered a tiny scratch in the upper left corner where the original screen cover had started to peel away. Upon the closest of inspections, the screen appears ...

Power button not working
Jun 9, 2009, 8:46 AM
in the Nokia E71 / E71x forum

I like my e71x... I really do. I'm on my second one. AT&T exchanged the phone after I let them feel how hot it was getting after short phone calls. This morning, I got a new surprise. Before I walked in to work, I used the power button to set the profile to Meeting like I do every day. I then pressed the power button again to lock the keys so I could put it in my pocket (like ...

I tried Windows Mobile 2 yrs ago. Part of my problem is that I was used to the Symbian OS after having used Nokia off and on for many years and found similar functions on the Windows phone kind of cumbersome. At the time, I think the voice command was something extra I had to pay for but it comes with Symbian. After about a month, I couldn't take it any more and bought a new Nokia. Maybe those ...

May 15, 2009, 10:38 AM
in the Nokia E71 / E71x forum

On the e71x, you can't use mp3s as your ringtone. I could do that with my unlocked e61i and was very disappointed when the e71x told me that an mp3 was over 300MB and therefore too big to use. And I don't like that the idle/standby screen has been changed from what I had on my unlocked phone. The clock is tiny and at the bottom. I often use my phone as an alarm and having the big clock ...

I figured as much about the mail-in rebate. What I didn't like was that the upfront price was $199 in the store. Instead I got the phone from AT&T's Web site for an upfront price of $149 - no data plan was required to get this price. I had to wait a couple of days for the phone to be delivered, but it was worth it.

I figured I'd try another AT&T store to see if I could get the phone now. The sales guy said the phone is $199 and the $50 instant rebate is for when you sign up for a data plan but the $50 mail-in rebate is available to everyone. I should have asked to see the rebate, but I was frustrated with getting different information from before and left the store empty-handed.

I went to my local AT&T store yesterday and the salesperson didn't know what phone I was talking about. They had them in the back and didn't have a display out!!! Then he ran my info and told me it was $199 without a data plan (which I DON'T want). If I got a data plan, I would get $50 instant rebate to drop the price to $149 and I'd get a mail-in rebate for another $50. I left the ...

You would do it for freedom of choice to get the exact phone you want if your carrier doesn't offer it. I have an unlocked phone because I wanted a Nokia phone with Wi-Fi and neither T-mobile nor AT&T carried one that fit my needs. I cannot send or receive MMS picture messages on my e61i. Prior to this, I had a 6230 that wouldn't do it either. Then I had the N80 for a while and could send MMS msgs with ease. I just got an e61i. It's the European version. I also have the N80 (European version). I compared the two screens last night. The N80 has richer color with very sharp text that extremely easy to read for such a small screen. I have been VERY impressed with the readability of the N80. I think it depends on what you really want in a phone. For me, the iPhone lacks certain features I want. Once you decide what features are the most important to you, you'll have your answer. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend the iPhone review & video that Phone Scoop did in the In Depth section. If I remember correctly, they skipped comments of the features most commonly reviewed by others and focused on some other ones. ...

I bought the N80 (not the IE) on ebay 2 months ago to use with Cingular. The screen is so sharp that you can read the tiniest font. One complaint I have is the battery life - you'll need to charge it every day. And yes, it is a little slow with some functions. Turning it on takes a while. Last night I was updating a few contacts and selecting "Edit" took a few seconds to open the contact. ...

The way the reps explained it to me about another phone, if a phone has a "real" Web browser on it and can "handle" more graphics and other Webby stuff, then you have to get a PDA data plan. (which is all a load of hooey, anyway). So, if this were any other phone, they would require you to pick one of the higher priced plan. If you return it within that time, no harm no foul. However, you will be limited to 14 days with the phone and you will be charged a 10% restocking fee.
