Re: Flagship Phone? Really??
Information I've read indicates that the Symbian OS can do more with "lesser" processors than the competition can with their OS/processor combination. And have you seen the sample photos taken with this phone??? I saw some at All About Symbian. I was mightily impressed.
I read somewhere that the UK release date is late August. Who knows when it'll come stateside.
Actually, I think that's cheaper than I expected. Unsubsidized phones cost a pretty penny anyway. I was exptecting this one to come in over $500.
Another site stated that closing the stores will allow them to focus on sales and working with carriers. I think for Nokia that was the missing piece. I have been frustrated for a looooong time about the lack of higher end phones available from AT&T (and then they got the e71x). Nokia is doing the same thing the auto makers had to do - tighten that belt and refocus!
Re: Differences between E71 and E72?
I believe the e71x from AT&T has FP2. but mine doesn't have threaded messaging but I haven't updated my e71x lately.
Re: Why do they feel the need...
I personally have yet to find a phone that feels better held to the ear than a regular landline phone (yes, I still have one). The slightly curved headset must be what does the trick for me. Many people use a bluetooth headset instead of suctioning their cell phone to the ear, so a square shape shouldn't matter much. It's good to see carriers are picking up some of Nokia's uniquely designed phones. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that in ...
Re: a little thing called CHOICE
I don't understand all this. I have used unlocked phones on my AT&T account and they never can tell what type of phone I'm using. I am very happy with using only WiFi as I don't feel the need to be connected all the time. I will continue to buy unlocked phones when the prices go down and just will never renew my plan. The unlocked phone I'm considering right now has dropped to about $230. Considering I paid ...
Screen protector recommendations?
I dropped my e71x in a parking deck. (Until I get a new case, I promise to maintain a death grip on this baby.) The deck floor was less than smooth. My phone landed face down and now has some ugly nicks. Because the screen is nearly flush, the screen suffered a tiny scratch in the upper left corner where the original screen cover had started to peel away. Upon the closest of inspections, the screen appears ...
Power button not working
I like my e71x... I really do. I'm on my second one. AT&T exchanged the phone after I let them feel how hot it was getting after short phone calls. This morning, I got a new surprise. Before I walked in to work, I used the power button to set the profile to Meeting like I do every day. I then pressed the power button again to lock the keys so I could put it in my pocket (like ...
Re: E71x not recognized by Vista x64 when connected USB
The only problem I had on my Vista machine was not having the default USB mode on the phone set to PC Suite. I also set it to always ask which mode I want. When you set it to PC Suite, does the PC Suite software recognize it?
Re: e71x or samsung jack?
I tried Windows Mobile 2 yrs ago. Part of my problem is that I was used to the Symbian OS after having used Nokia off and on for many years and found similar functions on the Windows phone kind of cumbersome. At the time, I think the voice command was something extra I had to pay for but it comes with Symbian. After about a month, I couldn't take it any more and bought a new Nokia. Maybe those ...
Re: phone gets hot after 20 minutes
My e71x gets VERY warm after a 20 minute phone call. I notice it's the same model battery that was in my previous Nokia but that phone didn't get hot. Is this normal for this phone or will my phone exploooode? :paranoid:
Re: E71x build quality(suspect)
I have had no such noises on my phone. I like the buttons - they're easy to press for buttons so close together.
Re: flashing light
I thought it was random, too, until I realized that it was an indicator for messages and I assumed it was the equivalent of an annoying flashing light on some phones that just indicate the phone is on.
Re: E71x vs E71
On the e71x, you can't use mp3s as your ringtone. I could do that with my unlocked e61i and was very disappointed when the e71x told me that an mp3 was over 300MB and therefore too big to use. And I don't like that the idle/standby screen has been changed from what I had on my unlocked phone. The clock is tiny and at the bottom. I often use my phone as an alarm and having the big clock ...
Re: Price difference in store vs. online
I figured as much about the mail-in rebate. What I didn't like was that the upfront price was $199 in the store. Instead I got the phone from AT&T's Web site for an upfront price of $149 - no data plan was required to get this price. I had to wait a couple of days for the phone to be delivered, but it was worth it.
Re: Price difference in store vs. online
I figured I'd try another AT&T store to see if I could get the phone now. The sales guy said the phone is $199 and the $50 instant rebate is for when you sign up for a data plan but the $50 mail-in rebate is available to everyone. I should have asked to see the rebate, but I was frustrated with getting different information from before and left the store empty-handed.
Price difference in store vs. online
I went to my local AT&T store yesterday and the salesperson didn't know what phone I was talking about. They had them in the back and didn't have a display out!!! Then he ran my info and told me it was $199 without a data plan (which I DON'T want). If I got a data plan, I would get $50 instant rebate to drop the price to $149 and I'd get a mail-in rebate for another $50. I left the ...
When I read this, I thought about teenagers and the crazy things they are capable of. I can only imagine the havoc that teenagers have wreaked on each other since their parents starting giving them camera phones. Yikes!
Re: how dumb
Your phone doesn't have a "lock" feature to prevent the phone from responding to accidental button presses??? I lock my phone when I put it in my pocket or in my purse.
Re: Difference from E71?
Cnet has a brief article about it that presumes it will be available as an unlocked phone a couple of months after it's released in Europe. The article stated they are not aware of any carrier planning to offer the phone.
You would do it for freedom of choice to get the exact phone you want if your carrier doesn't offer it. I have an unlocked phone because I wanted a Nokia phone with Wi-Fi and neither T-mobile nor AT&T carried one that fit my needs. I didn't like my contract phone so I sold it on ebay to offset the price of my unlocked one. My contract is coming up for renewal - I will be able to upgrade ...
Re: E61i-1 and E61i-2?
If I remember correctly, one of the numbers refers to the European model and the other refers to the American model.
MMS doesn't work on e61i
I cannot send or receive MMS picture messages on my e61i. Prior to this, I had a 6230 that wouldn't do it either. Then I had the N80 for a while and could send MMS msgs with ease. I assumed that since the e6ii & the N80 have a similar OS, that I would have no problems. When I try to send a picture, it just keeps trying to send until i give up and stop it. Incoming MMS ...
Re: E61i, n75, n95 unlocked prices
Those were the prices back then... Dell charges tax, so Buy.com is cheaper for the e61i. I haven't checked Buy.com lately, but they've run the e61i for $394 with free shipping.
I just got an e61i. It's the European version. I also have the N80 (European version). I compared the two screens last night. The N80 has richer color with very sharp text that extremely easy to read for such a small screen. I have been VERY impressed with the readability of the N80. In comparison, the colors in my e61i are not as vibrant and the text is not as sharp. The font looks different on the e61i, for ...
Having never seen one in person, all of the Nokia phones that have had this form factor have been lees than appealing to me in the looks department. Is it that hard to make a handsome phone with this form factor?
TivoToGo on Nokia
Tivo says the Nokia N80 is compatible with TivoToGo. Is there any reason to think that it wouldn't work on the e61i???
Re: NOKIA N80IE
I can't really say. I tried to go to hollywood.com and had trouble entering my Zip Code for movie listings. It could have been user error. Other than that, i didn't surf the Internet with it.
E61i-1 and E61i-2?
Does anyone know what the 2 numbers mean? It seems the 61i-1 has RM-227 and 61i-2 has a different RM.
Re: NOKIA N80IE
From Cnet.com CNET editors' take Reviewed on 1/26/07 The Nokia N80ie is largely like its predecessor, the N80, keeping the same hardware but adding some nice software upgrades to enhance the Web experience of the smart phone. The N80ie now includes a download client that provides an easy way to get new apps on the handset. In addition, there are shortcuts for Yahoo Go, Gizmo VoIP, F-Secure, and other programs preloaded on the device for easy download. ...
Re: This or the iPhone?
I think it depends on what you really want in a phone. For me, the iPhone lacks certain features I want. Once you decide what features are the most important to you, you'll have your answer. If you haven't seen it yet, I recommend the iPhone review & video that Phone Scoop did in the In Depth section. If I remember correctly, they skipped comments of the features most commonly reviewed by others and focused on some other ones. ...
Re: Installing TouchFLO on other WM6 phones?
No can do. From http://www.smartofficenews.com.au/Communicati on/N4D6D2K4 "The device is the first to feature HTC's TouchFlo software solution, though according to Chou, the solution does go deeper down into the hardware, so running TouchFlo on other Windows Mobile devices is not really possible."
Re: looking at buying N80 on Cingular
I bought the N80 (not the IE) on ebay 2 months ago to use with Cingular. The screen is so sharp that you can read the tiniest font. One complaint I have is the battery life - you'll need to charge it every day. And yes, it is a little slow with some functions. Turning it on takes a while. Last night I was updating a few contacts and selecting "Edit" took a few seconds to open the contact. ...
Re: This is AMAZING
The way the reps explained it to me about another phone, if a phone has a "real" Web browser on it and can "handle" more graphics and other Webby stuff, then you have to get a PDA data plan. (which is all a load of hooey, anyway). So, if this were any other phone, they would require you to pick one of the higher priced plan. But they know you wouldn't want to do that after you went dang-near ...
14 days to return instead of 30
From http://www.slashgear.com/iphone-will-be-locke d-down-to-a-single-sim-card-att-to-charge-10- restocking-fee-265917.php "Usually with AT&T you have 30 days to check out a phone and see what you think. If you return it within that time, no harm no foul. However, you will be limited to 14 days with the phone and you will be charged a 10% restocking fee. If you thought buying the iPhone was expensive, just wait until you try to return it!"
Re: SIM Card?
At first, I read that the SIM card was not removable. Now I see there are reports that the SIM card slot is at the top of the device. Apparently, at the January keynote, there was a picture of an arrow pointing to a slot at the top. Search the Web for pics.
Re: $99 bucks refurb at att/cingular
I bought one a day or 2 before the price jumped back up to $199. I've had it for a couple of weeks. I haven't checked since then to see if they're still available. I'm frustrated with the ease (or lack thereof) of the phone capabilities. Windows is fine as a PDA, and I liked my old PDA. But I'm not sure I like the OS on a PDA that has some clunky phone features... One of my biggest ...
Re: Will Be Tough For Others To Catch Up.
Don't be silly. The HTC Touch isn't really an iPhone competitor because it runs on Windows. The iPhone GUI was created from a fresh start. The Touch can connect to corporate email (like MS Exchange), but the iPhone can't - at least for now. Companies are scrambling to figure out how they can make it work - http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?new sid=9828. The iPhone has to catch up on the corporate email and catch up to Nokia's phones that have cameras up to ...
I've read several things about Nokia trying to get a bigger foothold in the U.S. market. Maybe this is an effort to that end?
