Urbanfirefighter submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I've had two of these overpriced paperweights. The audio is horrible. Just after the warranty period was over (1 year) the first phone died completely with no warning. The second phone just after one year, is dying and unreliable. These phones have gotten very light use and never dropped or subjected to water. I've never had so much trouble with a "Mil Spec" piece of commo equipment.

I was very glad to see that the new style Mil Spec Boulder was released. This phone is a huge disappointment. Audio sucks. Difficult to hold. Unable to download the Personal Assistant software so I had to reload all of my phone contacts by keypad.

My service is with Verizon and is pretty good.

I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER GZONE PIECE OF JUNK!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

furinkas submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This phone is the first and best of all the g'zones. I owned it and abused it for 2 years. It's a no frills phone. The later versions have blue-tooth and mp3 but the camera isn't anywhere near as good. I just drop it yesterday on the concrete and it bounced 4 or 5 times tumbling like an Olympic gymnast. I pick it up and made a call. I also live 15 minutes from the beach. I took it in the water everytime. Never a problem. If you need rugged, this is the phone. You may be able to find a cheap one on ebay, but if you notice people aren't selling them that cheap. That should tell you something.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

markj73 submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

Pro's
Durable
Good for Voice
Works fine for txt
Con's
Crashes on Pix Messages
Crashes/drops/locks up on Mobile Web
Crashes with a WSOD white screen of death on Vcast Videos

UT is Unwilling to provide a fix for these issues. I have replaced the phone at least 6 times from VZW refurb deal under the 1 year warranty. Also Replaced it 3 times with UT Starcom the last with a "NEW" phone or so they say. Whether it was or not it still crashes and if you want Mobile web/Vcast forget it on this phone. Grab a Type S so far it has been much better though it lacks the Vcast, after a sw update it is working on the mobile web, (had the same MW issue as the V)

I do not know if this issue is common but after at least 9 diff phones are all the same I find it hard to believe that it was just those 9... Anyone else experience this besides the one poster commented about the MW but Vcast anyone?

If all you want is a voice phone it should be fine, that is why I gave it such a low rating. I hope the S is as durable without that bumper...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

biggriz86 submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Only a 4.0, because i havent had it long, so cant honestly say its perfect.

This is my first phone, but ive certainly been around phones, and had to borrow others on a regular basis because my apartment dosnt have a landline.

I just got the Type-V, after researching for weeks. First off, im a basic kinda guy, i drive an ex military diesel blazer, go camping, hiking, rock climbing, and all around outdoors kinda stuff. im also pretty rough on my things. When i talked about getting a phone, everyone who knew me immediaty said, "dont get a razer", im "THAT" guy. So i got this phone because its neigh indestructable.

so far, i have never had fewer than three bars reception, call quality is excellent, and standing next to a busy highway with semi trucks going by, i have no problem hearing the person on the other end of the line.

the design is also very appealing, granted it dosnt effect the way the phone works, but nobody wants an ugly phone. everything is well laid out and easy to use. the quick function buttons (camera, vid, speaker, flashlight) help tremendously with this.

In short...

Pro - Tough as nails
- easy to figure out
- great reception (as far as my experience goes anyway)
- awesome call clarity and volume
- fantastic design work
- full function phone (camera, gps, internet, messaging etc.)
- great customer support thus far (verizon)

Ccn - Only thing ive heard about, that i can understand, is people dont like how big it is. which i actually love. i never understood the trend towards tiny, easily broken cell phones.

Biggest Con - verizon apparently isnt making them anymore. if i had the money id buy a stash to keep around, just in case.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Editor3000 submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Not only is it waterproof, it is unbelieveably durable!

I first heard about it from an ad I got from Verizon. I red up on it at VerizonWireless.com, and even chatted with a Verizon rep online about it. What pushed me over the edge was, I went to a Verizon retailer. They had their active demo in a fishbowl on the counter filled with water! They then wanted to charge me $50 to upgrade to it. I saw previously online that I could get it for free from Vreizonwireless.com. SO I DID!

I freaked my best friend out the other day. He came home and I started washing it with the dishes in the kitchen sink. He freaked out but I showed him that's it's OK. Now he's ordering one! I highly recommend this phone! I work for a Wireless retailer but I don't sell Verizon or this phone. But I certianly have it on my hip!

For a durable case, I got one from Rugged which can be found at a local retailer that uses a big red ® as their logo.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

brickwall90mph submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I owned a LG 8300 that started to have problems after a year so Verizon then sent me a new broken LG 8300, at this point I had enough and went into the store well it didn't end there folks I took the bait and walked out with a RAZR well 2 days later I walked back into the store and this time I wasn't smiling when you see a 360 pound man not smiling it makes you nervous. Well a hour later I walked out of the store smiling again I got the GZ 1 free of charge to replace my broken LG and I have to say so far this is a amazing phone I am 100% satisfied the sound quality could be a little better but that is my only gripe this is a great phone. One other thought if i may the S series what the hell is that anyway I thought new models where suppose to be like a upgrade of a older model a piece of crap cam crappy screen and smaller too and all so people can have 3 things a memory card reader (yeah like i need that on the worksite) a internal antenna and bluetooth ok so in the beginning they where looking out for the working type guy or lady and now they have turned on us to market this to kids. Well I am done rambling buy the V if it still available it is the best phone out there

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

She was mad at me for leaving my old phone on the kitchen counter in a puddle of water which killed it. She said that I better not break it or they'd be hell to pay.

Pros:
It's a pretty cool phone it's large enough that doesn't feel clumsy in my big hands
No more dropped calls, cool color
I dropped it more than I can count, left it on a dripping wet counter and it survived

Cons:
The speaker phone sucks big time if you raise the volume high.

Otherwise I love it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pvq submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I have had my eye on this phone since its introduction. My only hesitation was because it lacked bluetooth (which i do not currently have...but sort of wanted.) I was originally going to wait for the type S to be released, but most of the previews I have read indicated that the type s phone was actually not an upgrade in that it had an inferior screen display and an inferior camera. I decided I ought to grab a V before they are gone and I got the V for Free with my NE2 which saved me about $150 I would have spent on a type S. The phone is FAST when texting, has an excellent crisp large display and is built like a tank. I can finally go to the beach this summer without my phone in a little baggie! My sole complaint is that apparently spare batteries and an additional home charger and cradle are not available as OEM accessories. C'mon Casio...get with the program!!!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

canine29 submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I ordered 4 going on 5 GZ1 type V phones and they are activated and deactivated and shipped back. Reason- If you have the volume on high - the speaker in the ear-piece has a very bad-noisy vibration and is annoying ! I have 1 more new replacement on the way and will post my results soon as I get it.

I did find out that the pre-programmed ring tones are different in 2 out of 4 phones.

GZ1S is due to come out soon. I cannot wait to see if they improved the ear-piece speaker (resolved the problem) ......

April 21, 2007

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

PMcOuntry submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

There really isn't much more I can add to what everyone else has said about this phone.

I noticed most reviews seem to be my men, well, I'm a "chick" and I love this phone!

I have been playing with it all day since I got it and only found a few VERY minor cons:

1. You cannot change the colors of the bars, they are default red, unless I am missing some setting somewhere.

2. Games for this phone are near zilch, I am not a phone "gamer", but a nice puzzle game once in awhile to pass the time is always nice.

3. I sent some midi files to the phone, and it stuck them in sounds, not ring tones, so I cannot use them for my ringer. Guess I'll finally have to break down and buy a few songs! Seeing as my phone is almost always on vibrate, its hardly a big deal.

4. This is NOT a small phone and is hefty. Since my old phone wasn't small or light, this doesn't matter, but if you are looking for paper thin, buy a RAZR but don't drop one of those in the pool.

**NOTE

If you decide to make your own wallpaper, I recommend you use 260x320 settings to get it to fit all the way across the screen.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I travel a 5 state area in the mid-west and this phone has rf like all others (solid). I have experienced some lag with the vcast (no big deal)and do miss bluetooth. Hopefully the type S comes out soon, then it will be an ultimate warrior phone!

This is a man's phone without the gimmicks.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Pros. earpiece volume, clarity of calls, camera, ease of use( really easy to navigate the menus and set up the phone),durability(this phone is a tank),call claraty, the screen is beautiful and the camera it takes great pictures( I took a picture of my black cat and captured her eyes which are very green). My only gripe is with the user manual which really sucks.I thought Motorola manuals were bad till I read this one.I highly recomend this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

First, I need to advise you that the military spec that were in most demand was for dust, shock, and water resistance. This is how we are marketing the phone. Moreover, the GZ One phone has a rugged design based on the demands of our customers who wanted a sturdy phone but not a military clock. Moreover, there was a demand for other features, such as a camera, VZ Navigator, Speakerphone, Get It Now, Video Messaging, and the ability to use the phone as a modem upon purchasing a kit. Unfortunately, the demand for a 24-hour clock application was very low based on the information we received from a vast majority of our customers."

Also there is a lack of accessories available for this phone.

Can not find a phone tools program.

Other than the above the phone is great.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

cjohnson0692 submitted this review of the Casio GzOne Type-V:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

To start off with this phone does exactly what it says it will do. This is not for the pretty boy office worker who wants his phone to do everything and be small and slim. This phone is for the person that actually has to work in harsh conditions or the outside world, and his phone doesn't need to be tiny and feel like if you don't baby it it will break. I see there are reviewers that say it has no bluetooth and that is bad who cares The speakers crack at high volumes, no kidding really duh! The speakers aren't perfect but they can go under water and the rest can't. So the others must be bad then to because they can't go under water? As for the rest of the phones on the market, I have or my family has owned most of them even the latest samsung a990, razer, and krazer ...etc. If you look at this phone for what it is a working man's phone not a pretty boy phone you will love this phone. I work in the snow, rain, sun, cold, hot and this phone always works. The camera is excellent it works and takes pictures, faster with better quality than even the Samsung a990, which I owned for a short time and it sucked. The battery life is exactly what it says it should be for talk time, it's not over rated like most. The speaker and ear piece volume are plenty loud, loud enough other people will hear your conversation. I have dropped my phone at least 5 times and twice straight on to the concrete unfortunately for me. The phone has some scratches but works perfectly and never broke. The inside screen size and resolution are better than most. The outside display is not a cheap hard to see LCD, but instead a useful easy to read digital clock and you don't even have to open the lid and close it to lite up the outside so you can read it, even a blind man could read it. The buttons are nicely spaced on the keypad so you don't hit the wrong button. I don't drop calls and I usually have better signal than everybody else. Best phone for the working man, thats what this phone is for.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
