MzsSammyy submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Since this was my first phone, I can't really make any comparisons.

Pros:
Sleek design
Nice screen
Easy-to-use keyboard
Wonderful applications
Clear volume
Great camera
Durability- i dropped my phone into the toilet & it was completely submerged in water. I swabbed all the water from the battery & SIM card & keyboard. There was still some water left in various places, so I charged my phone to have the water evaporate. It was back alive! I must say, for most electronics that fall into the toilet, the majority die out in a few minutes. Oh & i dropped my phone almost half as much times i held my phone. So it's made of some tough stuff.

Cons:
Alarm's volume is a bit low. I maxed out my volume to a 5 to test out the alarm. On the first second, the volume reflected the 5, but i went straight down to a 2-3, barely able to hear anything. This wasn't because of the toilet incident because it happened before it.
I couldn't use an MP3 as a ringtone- it only allowed MMF. But i could use MP3s as alarm ringtones.
Battery life is short (in my opinion). It would die after 1.5 days, so i suggest charging every night or so.
I was in love with the screen, so i would touch it- A LOT. Because of this, the screen is scratched up & a bit foggy, like i scratched the top layer off. I suggest getting a protection tape for your screen to prevent this.
The vibration is a bit loud- sometimes.
Didn't provide a USB cable to upload my photos. So i bought one off eBay, & it didn't even work. Just send photos to your album where you can obtain those photos online. But texting fees apply; trust me- i made my mom pay over $30 just for those pictures.

The pros&cons are evened out, but that's because i've had this for 2+ years. So that whole "new phone illusion", where you think your phone is perfect, is gone & you get to see the flaws as it ages.

Overall, i love this phone, mainly because it was my first. But i guess this is considered a simple phone with little luxeries.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Djicey702 submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Great phone, I am very happy with the size and shape and weight of the phone. Worked good all the time until recently. When someone tried to call me, I could not answer the phone, it would ring and ring and ring forever until I removed the battery (same thing just happened to my gf's phone: Samsung A900 Sprint) The next thing that happened was I could not send or recieve pic messages and tzones would not work. I suppose all phones have some sort of life expectancy whether you break it or the manufacturer has preset an experation date in the software. Also, the thing that bothered me was.. I could not use my own mp3's as ringtones and T-Mobiles ringtones suck!

PROS

* lots of pros this is a good phone

* battery life is not too bad

* easy to navigate and send text messages

* over all, pretty reliable phone

CONS

* cannot use your mp3's as ringtones

* does not have a memory slot

* ear peice is not loud enough (there is a fix for that btw)

* buzzing noise heard while using speaker phone

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Had this phone for almost an year and didnt feel like to change it but did that for a change now.

pros.
Decent screen size which is really big enough.
Very slim.. sometimes i dont realize whether i have a phone with me.. :)
protected from outside dust etc with a slide.
speaker phone and voice dial, memory etc features...
Robust and strong.. i dropped my phone like number of times.. still its screen is not damaged nor the phone got scratches !!!

cons.
After using it for longtime i faced problem like iwas not able to hear the other person talkin very clearly. Some problem in hearing voice quality.

Talktime reduces after few months. Easily gets discharged in small time.

No mp3 ringtones supported :(

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

User Review: The T509 vs SLVR

fotomat70 submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I used to work for Cricket and sold the SLVR. And if I had to choose between the two I would take the T509 any day of the week and twice on Sunday over the SLVR.

I'll start with the one CON that I have with the T509. The speaker is too soft, I don't always hear it ring when I am in the car, but I fixed that by getting a Bluetooth earpiece.

Now the PROS vs the SLVR.

T509
Durability, my T509 has gone into the dogs water dish and come out working (I took the battery out right away and let it sit for two days to dry out first.) It has been dropped and still works including the charging port.

SLVR
This phone looks great and even feels more durable than the T509 but it has some serious durability issues. I had multiple people who had the phone have the center button come off and get lost. If you do happen to drop it the phone will break an internal connection at the charging port, so then you won't be able to charge it anymore. Now if you do that before the warranty is up and the phone has been in a case then great! It's only a $40 fee to get a new one, but if it looks like the phone has been dropped or even gone through normal use no warranty coverage, hope you have insurance.

Ease of Use
The T509 is head and shoulders above the SLVR. For example, I can set up a Bluetooth device in 15 secs or less on my T509. The SLVR takes about 2 mins and that is if it works the first time! And I was trained on how to set the Motorola phones up! No training for the Samsung, didn't need it.

MP3
Yes the T509 doesn't have an MP3 player built in, but it also doesn't drain the battery or shorten the overall life of it. So my phone works when I want to use it as a phone! The SLVR drains the battery and reduces the overall life of the battery because it heats up when using the MP3 player. Not to mention 95% of the people I sold the phone to couldn't get the thing to work, even after reading the manual.

The T509 is way above the SLVR, no comparison!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

But overall, I don't like the features.

PROS
-Very thin-Thinner then MOTOSLVR

-Cheap-I paid 20 bucks

-Bluetooth

-Not-bad quality of pics

CONS

-EXTREMELY quiet sound-the only time i answer is if its in my hand

-Short battery life

-Not very many features-my old phone could record sound and set as ringtone and it was free, no MP3, no flash on camera,

-Not very good service, i never have service when everyone else does

-Short videos

-No voice-activated dialing

-Cant change shortcuts

-Easily broken bcuz of weight and size and scratching because has no covering

Overall, this phone is not my favorite but If you just want a phone to call people, and impress people This is the right one for you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

sara77 submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This phone is ultra-sleek and stylish, I love its appearance. I am also happy with most of the features, but the volume issue really bothers me. It is okay when I am in a completely silent room, but when you are driving... forget it, I can hardly hear anything, and I always have it on maximum volume.

Does anyone know if this issue was fixes by Samsung? Any patches? Please email me if you do.

Other than that, I don't like that you cannot use the headset and charge it at the same time (say, in a long conference call) because there's only one slot. But I guess that is the same for all thin phones.

It also bothers a little me that you cannot create text menus. I don't like the icon display, but I guess you could get used to that.

Oh, last but not least, the battery life is not very good. Definitely get a car charger if you are planning to use it a lot.

Like I said before, other than that I love the phone, and I got lots of 'ohs' and 'ahs' from my friends for it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Well Samsung had to make it thin

Overall, great phone from Samsung, definitely recommend it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Beautiful screen. Many features that work. Yes that's all true. But I wanted to talk to people and them talk to me. I wanted a Phone. Not a camera, T-mobile zones, Games, but a PHONE!! more specifically, a Speaker-phone.

Speaker is terrible. I still have to hold it to my ear to hear on speaker but while on speaker they can hear me but I can't hear them. When not on speaker, people don't hear me with clarity. Don't use it in your car because the slightest traffic sound drowns out your phone. And I'd like to say I have great hearing.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Dee submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This lil phone is cool. Although I Don't own it. I have been playing around with it because my next door neighbor has it. Well first off. Its slim, so whats not to love. Well heres my pros and cons

Pros:
Slim phone
Good reception
I love the IM!!
fast menus
Camera/Camcorder feature

Cons:
Text messages take a long time to send, I don't know if its the area I'm in or whatnot

If you forget key lock password it'll lock your phone up and u have to call customer service

The camera sucks like crazy. I took a picture with my sister and i needed to turn on all the lights

No flash on the camera

The Internet is slow. So i hate that

Well those were the cons. And i hope this review was helpful. I really liked this phone, not because its slim profile but its other cool features.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hcv360 submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

the sleek design is what caught my eye; and the camera and display are what had it sold!

the audio when I am talking with out the bluetooth is great some thing in my opinion Samsung is known for.the ringer is not very loud but since I use a bluetooth a lot it does not bother me. I love the fact that I can hear my ring tones when my bluetooth is activated something that does not work on moto hand sets.

still getting used to not having a flip phone I spend a lot of time apologizing for hanging up on people. the games that come with it are some of the best that I have seen. its also nice having a phone that does not weigh down my purse i haven't gotten used to the txt entry but working on it; and down loads take no time at all you cant beat the price! I got my phone for 20 dollars on an upgrade. All in all the phone kicks a** for the price!

pros.
display
thin
light weight
menu is easy to use
bluetooth
camera not bad for a vga with no flash

cons.
no memory card

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mjb submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

The Positives:
1.T-mobile salesboy LOVES this phone's simplicity. (because it's sooo PRETTY?!)

2.Haven't used all my minutes since purchase... because the battery is always dead/dying & poor sound quality has clients begging me to use a land line.

3. Company must be in the black - no $ spent on engineering saves a fortune!

The Negatives: Everything else.

1. Pretty, bright screen sucks the life out of the wimpy battery faster than anything else I've used, & with only one (very difficult to connect while driving) accessory connection, you can't use a head-set while you charge it. Please don't tell my insurance co!

2. That flat, thin design with beensy buttons means you can't let it come in contact with anything (pocket, purse, hand) without setting something off or inadvertently changing a setting.

3. Forget the Blue-tooth, & for better sound quality go directly to a tin can & string.

4. Manual is too basic to bother with. At 202 pgs you'd think it might have some good info. Nope. Website FAQ's no better. Availability of Samsung support? M-F, 9-5. Gee, thanks. Think their engineers are on the same schedule - off duty.

5. That one, very poorly engineered accessory connection doesn't work with any other brands, so good luck charging in a friends car or picking up a spare head set at the local Walgreens. You're SOL!

Really, don't mean to sound so disappointed & disillusioned after spending so much $$, but save yourself the experience - give it up & get something that cares less about form & more about function.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Bright screen (even visible in sunlight)

Cons: signal strength

The slim design made it a little weird to handle at first. It seemed to want to slip out of my hands when picking it up.

I ended up with a RAZR. Much better signal strength...

JF

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is very thin yet fits in your hand great. Plus it just looks really good. People are always asking me what it is and who makes it. I am very loyal to the Samsung brand and feel that they make a superior product. I feel confident in making this statement as I work in the cellular phone industry. The only real downside to the phone is the speaker volume when talking and the ringer volume. One other minor disappointment is the fact that it is equipped with a VGA camera. For a VGA it is very good quality but obviously it is not as great as mega pixel.
Overall though it is a great phone and quite affordable considering all the features.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

wallymander submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I was not on the bandwagon of thin phones.
I got this phone because tMobiles phone lineup really , to me, is rather lame. It was pretty much the best of the most booring. Sooo
At first i think"REALLY too thin" I got a snap on case on Ebay, that helped that out.
The technology as far as screen, camera, games, useability and navigatibility are well designed.
The SOUND, thats my issue. I am on my second one through TMobile and the third is on the way before i ditch it and get another MOTO because i trust them.
I can hear the ringer across my office but if in a car, forget it.And i agree that the ringer selection is sorry at best. They ought to support MP3s or WAVs. I am able to convert to .mmf but its super quiet.Even more so than the regular ringer. the bluetooth works fantastic also.

The reason the sound is my peeve is because when others talk to me, i CONSTANTLY get a "sounds like youre in a swarm of bees" comment from them. I cannot hear it however ive confirmed it with my wifes cell.TMobile wants me to believe its the SIM...i cant see how that would affect otugoing audio. We switched the SIM out, still buzzed. so mabye ive been uber-unlucky and recieved two defective ones made on a friday or some such thing. Well see with the third phone.

Either way, its been pretty much useless as a phone but its good with pic messaging..
So my verdict, no thanks, i would rather fall in the RAZR crowd (damnit) and have a phone i can talk on.Its gonna go back to TMobile

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

My daughter talked me into this phone and I hate it.

First, it has broken twice. I keep paying t-mobile to ship me another one (since I have no option to do otherwise). They just replaced it for the third time and now they think the battery is bad.

The placement of the recharge area is bad, the speaker is weak and the sound is terrible.

I have my old razr phone and I am using it instead. This phone is completely unreliable in my book.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

2point0Tfan submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-T509:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

My wife and I have been with T-mobile for a few years now, and I recently upgraded my phone a few months ago but my wife never found a phone she truly liked that warranted extending her contract another 2 years until we saw the t509s(purple) phone on Tmo's website. She thought it looked nice and not the average phone you see everyone else carrying around. So being the informed consumer I am, I decided to do some checking online about this phone and see what the general consensus was before ordering. Reading the mixed reviews we decided to give it a shot. Most of the reviews I read here on Phone scoop were saying it is a nice phone with alot of features, but really quiet.. both ringtone wise, and for the ppl on the other line you are talking to.
Well upon getting the phone a few days ago we were both pretty impressed with all the features that it has. The screen is quite bright, and my wife likes the color customization and sound options that it offers as well. And there are no complaints about the other person on the line not being able to hear you.
All in all its a pretty good phone, however, I don't think I would be writing a review if there wasn't a flaw with it.
The speaker placement on the phone is horrible. If the phone is in her purse, or is on the table, and you are in another room... there is a pretty good chance that you are going to have a missed call or two when you come back to it. There's not much use of a cell phone if you cant hear it ring, ya know?
So as cool of a little phone as this is, she is deciding to send it back. I don't blame her since its frustrating when you know someone has their cell phone next to them, yet cant hear it over the normal sounds of the car, or being in another room, etc.
In Summary, its a perfect phone if you plan on having it on Vibrate in your pocket at all times.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
