missy7 submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

Owned this phone for a very short time before i ended up reselling it. It was a good phone, but the operating system was very difficult for me. I thought I would get used to it since I am very proficient with Windows based computers, but Windows Mobile was just too much challenge for me. I'm sure if you learn new systems easily, it's a great phone. My husband is into tech stuff and has really used the features this phone has to offer, but I couldn't grasp it enough to enjoy it. It was just too much work for me. Call quality is adequate, but not the best sounding. The hinge seems a bit weak and the back cover of the phone likes to fall off after a while, but otherwise seems to be a decent phone with a nice screen and many features for those who enjoy them, but I would not recommend this phone for those looking for only the basics. This phone is for the experts... and that's not me. I ended up going back to my Nokia phones- love them. so easy to use!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

halsterpi submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

At first I really loved this phone. I love that it's a smartphone that's also a flip phone, which makes texting easy when you're doing something else. But then it started to restart when I received messages occasionally and I couldn't get those messages anymore. My phone borke and then I used insurance to get a new one and the new one did the same thing. Only now, it restarts often when I touch any button, sometimes it'll just completely turn off for no reason. It's ridiculous. I lose all kinds of messages and numbers when it does this. It's great if you can afford a new phone after 6 months.

Pros:
Predictive Text makes for easy texting while driving
Smartphone
Light weight
Lots of memory

Cons:
Restarts randomly
Loses message
SD card often won't read

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Love the clock on the front screen.

Cons:
When you send a call, it takes about 10 or so seconds for the phone to even start ringing.
Slow Internet service.
Starts "acting up" after a certain amount of time.

Essentially, I went through four of these phones in less than a year. After about 7 months (it did it with two of the phones), the phone would shut itself on and off for no reason, even if it was stationary. AT&T actually removed this phone from its stores.

I don't know why I ever left Samsung. I've gone back to it now with their Slim Phone. Easy. Simple. Reliable.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

DUbblecoMB submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

I owned this phone for only five months before I had to have it replaced. FIVE MONTHS. My other phone, a nokia 6102, has lasted me three years and it still hasn't lost a step.

When I purchased this phone it was awesome, and it came with everything I needed. I was the coolest guy on the block, taking those Razr-loving losers to town! To finish it off, I hooked my dear, sweet, baby of a phone up with a 2 gig memory card, to make it all come full circle. This phone was so full of features I just couldn't describe my disbelief when it all started falling apart. About three months into my relationship with this phone, I started getting weird glitches. I thought it was common since I was using a windows phone, but it just got ridiculous! My phone would freeze, give me error messages that would pile up to a point where I couldn't access my phone, it wouldn't send my text messages at all unless I kept the phone open and watched it say "message sent". Not only that, but the phone battery made a drastic change and only lasted about a day at a time before the battery was dead. It deleted my music, corrupted my memory card, and to finish it off the back of the phone peeled off so my battery kept falling out. As the problem progressed I eventually had to replace my phone for the same model, which also fell apart. I ended up downgrading to my old phone. End of rant, here's my list.

Pros:
Sleek, good look for a phone
Packed full of awesome features
Comes with full internet capabilities
Good sound quality
Syncs well with computer, easy to access

Cons:
Low battery life
Poor construction
Glitchy
Micro SD slot kept jamming

RIP 3125, I loved you!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

HyperBlue submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

In my job capacity as a telecommunications analyst for a Fortune 50 company I've reviewed/recommended hundreds of mobile devices over the last 10 years. In my estimation, at this time the 3125 is the best available small form multipurpose mobile phone in existence.

A few of the standout features include:
*Ability to sync with Notes
*Ability to sync with Outlook
*Reasonably quick internet (use www.mini.opera.com for best results - Windows Mobile IE sux).
*Great talk and standby time (remember to fully charge before 1st use and to fully deplete the charge before recharging the first three cycles)
*Great screen (while smallish it has great contrast in bright light and acceptable resolution)
*Decent 1.3 MP camera for both pictures and video
*Great tactile response and accurate T9 text input
*Fast sync times with ActiveSync
*Great ergonomics and V3XX-killer style
*Easy USB charging

Just a few cons:
*Propietary charging and headset port
*Hard to find accessories
*Middle button is too small and sometimes up/down, or left/right is punched instead of the center "select" key.

On the whole, this phone is perfect for those who desire a phone first and a PDA second. It performs flawlessly as a phone, with excellent, loud ringtones and a wonderful alarm. As a PDA it is acceptable and is capable of keeping you on time to meetings. The contact functionality is first-rate and you will notice no lag in the GUI interface. I do wish that the USB charge/sync cable was not proprietary, but it is included so that somewhat makes up for it. My model did not come with a headset, but it is easy enough to find on Ebay for $15 USD. Look for a Krussel case on Ebay too for the most functional case. Uploading pictures to blogger or for MMS emails to friends is simple. Most websites load quickly, but, again, I recommend that you point the phone's browser to www.mini.opera.com for the best, most customizable internet experience.

Conclusion:
This phone packs a large punch in a small package. Enjoy!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

KeepNTouch submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I have had the phone for 8 months and I am not retiring the phone. The ring volume is the biggest concern, which lead to the other problems. You can only use certain phone cases for this phone to hear it, but the phone needs a extra protection in a Neoprene sandwich case. The only problem is in case that covers the speakers, you will miss calls because in a typical mid noise environment (office, home, driving in the car) you won't hear the ringer. This is not the case with other phones I have used. The phone has to be pretty close to your body to feel the vibration. I had to edit the volume to the second highest AND Vibrate to hear it in normal noise environments. If you are out at the park with the kids 'forget about it'.

So this means a case that does not offer as much protection. So when it dropped a few times the sound quality was affected.

It's FLIP became FLOPPY and flops open easily wearing the screen (and battery) down when you think it's fully closed. In this case you will open the phone to a BLACK screen. Which I interpret as a failing LCD screen.

So since the phone has NO insurance (Cingular), it's now time to investigate other phone options. I like the PDA component of the phone and the ease of use. Now that my appetite has been
been wet, I'm moving UP to a Treo.

PRO
Music Player
Intuitive
Upcoming Events on Main Screen
Not Heavy
Screen Resolution

CON
Ring Volume
Flip Becomes Floppy
Doesn't Close ALL the way depending on case used

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

JSweazy submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

The Cingular 3125 is a great phone. Before I got the Cingular 3125, I had the Motorolla SLVR L6. The L6 got horrible reception in my house so I need to get a new phone. The Cingular 3125 was a great choice for a phone. It has great signal in my house, when it has one bar you can still talk on it, unlike my other phone which you couldn't even talk on 3 bars most of the time.

PROs:
Camera is good for a 1.3 mega pixels
Has great signal
Good speakers
Can do a lot of things with the phone closed(listen to music, take a picture)
Screen is bright

CONs:
No flash on the Camera
Can't see more than one alarm
The memory card is behind the SIM card

So overall this is a great phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

chocolateman85006 submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for 4 days now. I got it because the 6682 has failed me in many ways. I opted to get this phone over the Blackjack. I'd really rather have an 8525, but not for that price, ya feel me?!

Pros:
Great Reception. {Many times better than the 6682 [which I wish that I could destroy.]}
1.3 Megapixel camera/video. Truly awesome, to say the least.
Clamshell Smartphone. Not many of these exist in America.
Nice loud ringers and music.
Can accep BOTH mp3 & WMA files! {As my Nokia 6682 can only accept mp3's via Real Player [Sorry, but I'm too cheap and ghetto to pary $14.99 for RP when WMP comes for free.]}
Comes w/ Cingular Music Folder and MobiTV pre installed also.
Bubble Breaker, as all other great Microsoft phones do. It's be best $0 game out there.
Stereo Bluetooth works with it.
Can hear alarm while phone is on silent. My former Treo 700wx was incapable of that.
My email shows up promptly {it's sad that I get my email on Gophone at&t faster than Verizon's broadband network}.

Cons:
No Bluetooth file transfer capability. I can beam, but that's it.
Only MSN IM is pre-installed {both of these things are what makes me almost wanna get a Blackjack}
No flash.
Micro SD slot is UNDER the Sim Card. Supwidat?!

The 3125 is almost perfect. It's what stops me from ordering overseas for one of their phones. It's awesome so far, but I might still get a Blackjack if it's really as good as I hear that it is. I don't care what anyone says, my 3125 is better thna the Iphone, and cheaper too!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hutbug submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is the most underrated phone I've ever seen. At first I wasn't impressed with the size or the looks...but as I compared it to what else was out there offering the same features, it started looking better and better. If you do a side by side comparison, using this site's comparison tool, with the Motorola V3XX, this phone comes out ahead, including lighter weight and longer talk time. Internet speed with AT&T is very fast. I have a 2 GB microSD card in it and listen to all my audiobooks on it (with the help of bluecast software I can use a regular bluetooth headset, don't need stereo). Having windows mobile opens the door to thousands of 3rd party apps. I love my Papyrus and Facade calendar programs. And other programs like alarms and profile switchers make life so much easier! I've dropped this phone 3 times, hard, and it never complained even once. The camera is great, excellent quality. And I can utilize the clamshell design by clipping it to my collar so who needs a case? When I got tired of the looks, I blinged-out the front with acrylic jewels, and I get so many compliments you wouldn't believe it.
I can't even justify dumping it for the iphone.

Pros: really, everything!
Cons: really, I can't think of a thing, even after all these months!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bebe6473 submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

Ok I'v had this phone for the past 5 months and my experience with the 3125 have been very bad!!!!!

Well when I got the phone I liked it because of all features such as media player, video recorder, and the fact that it acted just like a PDA smartphone but in a slim flip phone.

Everything was all fine and dandy until about a month and a half after I got the phone it literally froze on me. Even when I took the battery out it still did not work so I had to get a replacement.

Well after the phone was working fine until I started realizing that I kept losing and dropping calls very freguent or for a long period of time it would tell me that it would be searching for at least 10 to 15mins and this happened everyday and almost every call that I either recieved or made. Than they sent me a third phone.

The third replacement did not work either. Immediately when I got the phone I tried it out and the same day it drop about 10 calls within 15mins and finally I got fed up and customer service made me go through so much just to get a different model and they had the nerve to try and make me take a fourth replacement.

The funny thing about the phone is that I went to a cingular stroe and even the sales represenative told me that this phone was not good at all poor service

SOPLASE DO NOT AND I REPEAT DO NOT BUT THIS PHONE IT IS HORRIABLE AS FAR AS RECEPTION AND CONNECTION

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

wannacook submitted this review of the HTC 3125 / Smartflip / 8500 (Star Trek):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

It all started several years ago when I was looking for a flip phone that would sync w/ my outlook. Sounds easy, right? NOT! After 1.5 years w/ the i600 (WORST phone on the market)I found this phone on a different provider (and gave me a GREAT way to get away from Ver@%@#n UGH!). I hate the PDA type phone, like flip. Best of both world here.
Pros:
SMALL yet large enough display and GREAT keypad. Slides easily into your pocket
Sync's w/ outlook with NO ISSUES at all.
GREAT interface and easy to get to what you need quickly once you look around a bit (I'm a guy that never reads the manual). Such as if you press the call button, all prior calls come up, highlight who you want and you can text them w/ one button.
Texting is good if you use it a lot (the T9 'learns' what you type in and will take new words and remember them... Im not a big texter but if you are, this would thrill you)
Loud ring if you want!
Great front screen for time and last call stuff.
Reception has been, for the most part, great. Cingular in my area is semi-spotty but it's been good to me.

Cons:
after 6 months with it im finding that the back plate is poorly designed and will come off sometimes causing your phone to turn off.
Ring tones suck for the most part
if you're someone to imported pictures as your home screen and download new ringtones, this phone will give you problems. It has a low ram and will get bogged down w/ extra stuff causing the ring not to ring right, long pauses between screens etc. I spoke to Cingular about this and the best thing you can do is NOT put a bunch of extra stuff on it and do a hard reset every few days (take the back plate off while the phone is on.. this will happen naturally anyway as i said earlier.)
DONT buy this phone for the camera.. its not a great one but it does the job for quick shots. If a camera is very important to you, this is not your camera.

All in all, if you're looking for a slick smartphone to sync w/ your PC- get this phone! I love it

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This phone does have many pros but there are few cons as well.

PROS:
Very durable
Easy access on the outside for MP3's
Good size screen when open
When open the size of the phone is comfortable
Program history at top of screen
run multiple programs
text messaging is very easy with size of buttons

CONS:
Blinking lights on outside
camera is so so
battery life is horrible
antenna is very weak
windows mobile has very serious lag times
not very customizable
speaker phone is not very loud
outside side buttons in bad spot
outside screen very hard to see in bright light

I know I have a long list on each but I want to be as honest as possible. This is a good phone but there are many challenges. Read all reviews before purchasing this phone.
THANKS!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have been the unhappy owner of three 3125s. My first stopped working after 30 days and was replaced by Cingular. The second stopped working after 40 days and was again replaced. The third did not work out of the box! Cingular tried unsuccessfully to force me to accept a 4th one. If you are interested in a great phone that will last for 30 days, this is the one to buy. If you need it for longer, you are in for a nightmare, and don't count on Cingular's "customer service." You will be sorry.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have had every device from the Treo 650, Treo 700, Motorola Q, the 8125 and the recent Black Jack.

All I can say is finally. Finally somebody got it right. HTC and Cingular have finally come up with a device that leaves me completly satisfied. Everything from the operating system to bluetooth stero support, simply put this device does it all.

Although it does not have a full qwerty keyboard it is not missed. I just recently gave into T9 and I have no desire for a huge pda for the simple fact that it has a keypad. This device does everything the black jack, the motorola Q, any other device running windows mobile 5.0. If you are using it for word or excel you are stupid. Sorry to say it but its true.

Pros:
Bluetooth connectivity
Battery life (greatest)
ease of use
Video and mp3 playback
can view and edit word, excel & power point
Display (excellent)
form factor (doesn't feel cheap)
Simply put the phone is sick!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cons:
memory card is behind sim card
no flash for the camera

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
