I lost it once in the rain and found it in the mud after 3 hours... no problem. An SUV ran over it and still worked. Fell in the pool and after I dried it up... still working fine!!
Bought another one because the case looked really bad... you can imagine!! and ATT had trouble activating it. So I used the new case in the old phone.!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

BruceDude submitted this review of the Siemens S46:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

The siemens s46 waters a particular Green spot. I call it reception, reception, reception.

Appearance: 5/10
Features: 5/10
Reception: 10/10
Appeal: 8/10

This phone is an all around good phone. I disagree with comments made by other consumers about this phone not being user friendly. It's easy and entertaining to navigate. It's just different from a nokia, but let us be reminded: every phone is different from a nokia.

I live in Reno, NV. The GSM service through AT&T wireless is just fine here. I only have experienced two spots of concern with reception and they are very small and insignificant in comparision with the rest of the city. I put my mother's nokia 6800 on her kitchen counter (one of the before mentioned deadspots) and made a test call out to it and got no response. I then placed my siemens s46 in the same spot and the call went through with brilliance(bare in mind it was on a GSM only plan). I almost felt guilty after she witnessed it. I tell you I could feel her confused emotions run thick like syrup.

Business customers ought to love this phone for it's low price and durable design... unfortunately for this phone, Nokia distracts many standard non-flip phone buyers from looking at siemens... but I'd have to say they're steadily gaining ground here in USA.

This phone doesn't have a color screen or a flip or blue-tooth or a camera or edge...
or an AMD athlon 3.4 GHZ processor with a 256 bit bus and 800 Gigs of QUAD speed DDR RAM...
But let's not get vain here...!
When did we ever make our phones our cameras and our personal computers?
The s46 can send e-mail. Isn't that sufficient for you?
It's all about Reception, Reception, Reception. What's a phone for any ways?

Rating: 4.5

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mjaquith submitted this review of the Siemens S46:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I keep coming back to this phone. I've always wanted a flip phone, but once I get one, I'm unhappy with something, usually signal strength. Then the SIM card comes out and goes back into this. I'm on AT&T in SW Florida, signal strength depends entirely on your phone. With this one, I'm good inside almost every building and outside it's perfect.

I don't use all the extras that come with this phone, but the ones I do use are easy to navigate to.

My one and only complaint is the antenna. The cover cracks and isn't covered under warranty. The same thing has happened to everyone I know who've had this phone, but it doesn't seem to effect the signal strength.

All in all a fantastic little phone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

This phone has great RF features, decent size, and many phone features.

Pros:
GSM/TDMA
Full of features
Automatic phone lock / w PIN requirement
Great battery life - 5+ days on GSM
Great audio quality (not as good as my Moto Timeport P7382i)
Great RF quality
Network diagnostic mode - Menu --> # shows RF on GSM and TDMA

Cons:
Scratches easily
GSM is 1900 MHz only :(
External antenna (broke!)

If it had GSM 850, I would probably still be using it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

gcx1 submitted this review of the Siemens S46:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I live in Phoenix, AZ and have been AT&T for six years. My last phone with them was a Nokia 8265. It worked well when I was in CA, but when I moved back to Phoenix, the TDMA service was not as good. I decided that I needed to take advantage of the newest technology and still have the reliable backup TDMA service. So far, I am happy with the s46. The clarity when I place or receive calls have been outstanding. What a difference from my old phone. Keep in mind, I have not traveled outside of the Phoenix area with this phone. Phoenix is an AT&T GSM area and service is good here.

The true test is when I cross over to a TDMA area. The S46 is a good phone. It is a little bigger than some of the other phones, but it is user friendly. It also does not have a lot of bells and whistles, but I don't require them anyway.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

isprobi submitted this review of the Siemens S46:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I purchased this phone at an AT&T store.

PROS:
This is one of the best phones I have used when it comes to holding onto calls even with a weak signal. The menus are easy to navigate. The included belt clip actually holds the phone securely and swivels out of the way when you sit. This phone is built like a truck! I accidentally sat myself and a large recliner (at least 250 Lbs. total) on top of the phone. Other than a small crack in the glass covering the screen the phone sustained no damage. This would have destroyed most of the fancy phones that are popular these days. This phone also performed well as a GPRS modem hooked to my laptop, but, AT&T's data pricing plans are too high to do much of that.

CONS:
The phone is so small it can feel uncomfortable to hold for extended periods unless you have small hands. Also, missed calls seem to generate several notifications which must be cleared and it sometimes takes a while for the voicemail icon to go away after you check your voicemail. There are not many accessories for this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

spencer500 submitted this review of the Siemens S46:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

An absolutely fantastic phone. I have used the 6310i, the V206, the T721, and the S56. The S46 is simply a great phone.

With the exception of the soft buttons and maybe more memory for calendar items, there is nothing I would change.

The reception is better than any phone I have used, and the battery life is incredible. Even simple things like the belt holster is well designed.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jeep88rc submitted this review of the Siemens S46:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

While the phone sports the nice feature of switching between GSM and TDMA service in Southern California is excels at neither.
-Coverage
I formerly had a Nokia 6360 that died due to water damage. While the nokia(TDMA) could make and receive most calls in the house, often the S46 goes straight to voice mail. To make a call I must stand in the backyard. If your area has strong GSM coverage then this should not be a problem for you.
-Form
The word clunky does fit in how this phone looks and feels. Perhaps a well made clunker is a better definition. It has been dropped several times from heights ranging from 2 feet to 8 feet and still works. The plastic screen scatches easily, and the two soft buttons under the screen are starting to become delaminated with use (6 months).
-Ease of Use
You cannot use the hands-free with the charger as they plug into the same spot. Menus might be intuitive in Germany but for me they stink! Nokia=simple, S46 =headache.
-Final Thoughts
The phone does work, in fact it works in places others might not, but this has more to do with AT&T's greater coverage in my area Southern California.
The only reason to get this phone is if you need (TDMA/GSM) service. Remember it does not support AMP or analog service, something all traditional TDMA phones will do.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mch submitted this review of the Siemens S46:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

GSM 1900 reception on this phone is very good. TDMA reception is about average, on par with the Motorola V60. The previous reviewer is correct, the phone has a tendency to hold on to an unusable GSM signal, when a strong TDMA signal is present. Fortunately one can switch the phone to "TDMA only" mode for those situations.

Audio quality is about average. The speaker volume isn't really loud enough for noisy environments and there is a fair amount of background hiss. Not bad, but not inspiring.

The phone works well for wireless data, either with the IR port or the data cable AT&T sells for an extra $30. I had GPRS data working with my palm, and my laptop under win2k, and FreeBSD without much trouble. You don't need the AT&T software to get this to work with windows, just set it up a generic modem and dial *99#

I'll be happy to send FreeBSD configs to anyone who wants them. The only real surprise is the need to use the "novj" option. Otherwise a standard chat script dialing *99# works just fine.

Overall, I'm content, but not thrilled. I'd like the phone to be smaller and I'd like better audio volume, but it generally works well for voice and data.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
