narn3049 submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I would get this phone again. However there are some small issues with it that I'd like to talk about.

Screen is not visible in the sunlight, forget about it

The battery life with a touchscreen/keyboard combo, your always going to have low battery. I loved this phone, but hated charging 24/7.

Dropping calls: It'd seem I'd make a call and the person I was talking to would ALWAYS ALWAYS seem to say Hey, your breaking up. I'm not sure why, because it was only that phone. It has happened with this and a treo. So I'm not sure if it was just a smartphone con.

I would get this again though, because everything else is a pro.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The green answer button does not activate all the time. The phone states Edge, not available after a few days-same area. Countless hardresets, tech support can not figure out why.
Looses email quite frequently. Not recommended for the business environment.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pineflakes submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I read a lot of positive reviews posted about this phone and I wonder if all those users were still in some kind of infatuation with their phones and blind to the objective failings of the MDA that make it ineffective as both a phone and a PDA. Just reading the negative reviews confirms that others have had the difficulties that I had with this phone, and I gave it the real benefit of the doubt for 16 months until satisfactorily smashing mine in a million pieces without the slightest remorse.

Just confirm these problems with other negative reviews:

TERRIBLE RECEPTION!!! That is a fact that I verified by using my sim card in other phones on the same network. The reception is very poor and then the phone takes up to 20 minutes or more to "find the network." I could be standing outside in an area with good reception and it still cant reconnect. Is it the phone or windows mobile? Its not the network.

LOW MEMORY AND FREQUENT CRASHES!!! This is probably partly windows mobile and partly the need for greater onboard memory. Even with third party memory management software, this phone sucked. As another reviewer complained, just open the slider and watch it crash as it tries to adjust the screen to horizontal view. The worst part is having the phone crash by incoming call.

These two problems alone make the MDA a terrible portable phone. By the end, I was willing to give up all the PDA features just for a reliable phone.

Other than being bulky, it made an ok PDA. Windows mobile is full featured but as fatally flawed as most microsoft products. Im no Apple fan either, but I'd settle for a primitive Palm OS anyday for its speed and small footprint.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I've done soft resets and r/r the battery to no avail.

If it is returned to one of the ATT same day replacement centers, am I risking that they may charge me for replacement in a future billing. I have read that they unilaterally declare device physically damaged sometimes when no such evidence exists? At that point, how would one contest such a determination and the subsequent charge, which may postdate the replacement by several weeks?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

chocolateman85006 submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I've had many Smartphones/Pocket PC's: SDA [I still use that one on my emergency line], Q, VX6700, Treo 700w and wx, 3125, MPx220, Blackjack, 2125 [and a couple Symbian and Palm ones, here and there], and now I have the MDA.

Pros:
Awesome camera/video (can be changed to 2MP for pictures).
Durable phone, as long as you don't drop it on the front.
Easy-to-use keypad.
I always have no less than 3-4 bars of reception. Go, T-Mobile!!!
Good battery life.
Windows OS.
Many programs can be downloaded into it.
Bubble breaker is much better on Pocker PC's.
Unlike the Treos that I had, the e-mail actually works!
Word and excel!
Big screen.
Came w/ a leather case.

Cons:
Not as much memory as the Treo 700w [47.46MB internally, to be exact], but that's what mini SD's are for.
Trying to find more cons.

Altough this is an older phone, it still rocks. If this phone keeps up, then I won't need a Wing. Only time will tell.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

macmillon submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I bought this PDA about a month ago and have had nothing but fun with it. The user friendly design, the features, and all this phone can do really make it a great addition for my business and personal life.

Pros
- Wifi enables me to check email pretty much anywhere
- Synch with my laptop for easy contact info and emails
- Text, Text, Text Messaging. It seems that this is the most efficient way to communicate. And the QWERTY keyboard makes it a snap.
- I got used to the 'digital' keypad and I really like it.

Cons
- It can be hard to text with one hand (although I'm getting better at it).
- More 'hot keys' on the outside of the phone. Something like the new 8525.

I give this phone a 4.5 rating and would encourage anyone thinking about upgrading to a solid PDA to think no more and get this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Hawki submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Mine is of the P4300 flavor and it has been a wonderful mobile to this point.
I must admit though ... until I found this site, I had one h___ of a time finding definitive specs on this device. HTC makes no reference of the P4300 anywhere on it's site and Edge Wireless, my provider, knew less about the phone than I did.
In any case, this phone has done everything I've asked of it without even a hic-up. I have converted DVD's to .avi's and it has played them with excellent audio and hardly a skip in the video.
The WIFI has been flawless with both my home and work networks and the EGPRS connections have been all you could ask for.
Given the processor speed, it has performed just great and I've yet to have a lockup.
It's not often that you purchase a device with this complexity and have it do exactly what its advertised to do ... bravo to HTC.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Theres unlimited things you can do to it and add stuff to it. Like my MDA has gps, aim, and a remote control for your tv. My carrier is T-mobile. The signal is not that good, since it has a lot of stuff on it

Pros :
-Big Screen 3"
-Plays movies and music
-memory expandable (mini sd up to 2gb)
-touch screen
-colorful screen , vibrant
-Has Windows Mobile 5.0
-can add other programs and games like mario
- has bluetooth, wifi(free), gprs, edge, push to talk
- has windows word, excel
-1.3 megapix camera (best camera i ever used)

Cons:
-its a big phone
-its hassle to not loose the stylus (the lil stick for touch screen phones)
- if dropped, they'll be a lot of scratches
- not a FUll keyboard, the buttons share other letters
-doesnt get that good signal

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I switched from Sprint-biggest mistake bc i thought this phone was excellent. But i was wrong. It looks great and has alot of features, but when you cant actually connect to people, its annoying and then theres no point in having a phone at all. When ever i would not have service, i would go outside and still it would show that i have no service. I don't know if its the Phone or just stupid T Mobile. I would have to shut my phone off and turn it on again just to have service. VERY ANNOYING. The camera is horrible, texting is very easy, but when you don't have service you can't send anny messages duhh..Save your money people and go to Sprint and get a Sanoy 8400 you won't regret it!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

rybb submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

overall a great phone. I'll just state the cons.

First hard to dial, you cannot create shortcuts to the phone feature. for example, one handed dialing is very difficult. Try to retrieve the stylus to call a number while driving is unbearable.

Second, to remedy th above problem you can use voice dial. the problem with voice dial is that it repeats the recorded command over the speaker phone. this allows anyone in the room to hear the person you are trying to call, and second its a grainy audio of the voice you used to record, which is very loud. there is no feature to turn this off, therefore everytime you make a call, it will repeat the name (very loud) over the speakerphone.

You can download microsofts voice command, for 40$, but again it repeats the name or command over the speakerphone, again everyone around you can hear this action. there is no function to send the audio directly to the phones ear piece. The speaker phone must be used for all above functions.

Finally you cannot add mp3s or wav files to the calander reminders, sounds and notifications, and/or alarms. you have to use the defaults.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

CuteIzWatweAim4 submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

I've had many phones and by far this phone i regret. I wouldn't get it unless you absolutely love touch screens. That was the main reason why i got rid of it. And also the phone was so slow. The camera application was extremely slow. Sliding the phone is easy but the screen delays changing from vertical to horizontal.
Although i didn't get to use the phone to its full potential, i didn't use it enough to know it was slightly complicated to use. Overall i had the phone for about two weeks before i sold it. I usually use phones for the camera and media player and this phone was ok at both (excluding the extremely slow camera app.). Frankly i think that its not worth the price tag. Just personal preference i guess.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Bearishly4u submitted this review of the HTC 8125 / 8100 / MDA (USA) / K-JAM / P4300 (Wizard):

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I have gone through a dozen phones in the past year and have found one I'm sticking with. The MDA does a lot more than I needed it to do while doing what I need quite well.

Pros:

1.QWERTY keyboard, a MUST for me.
2.Easy access to my wifi network.
3.Quick and easy bluetooth connections.
4.Cool factor...everyone who sees me using it wants a closer look.
5.Expandable Memory.
6.Ease of making any song a ring tone.

Cons:

1.Camera. NOT a step up from VGA I've had.
2.Size of Touch Icons. Being that it IS a phone, it would have been nice if some of the touch interactive issues related to using it as a phone were larger so a stylus was not necessary. If I want to use voice dialing, it's probably to AVOID dragging out the stylus.
3.Backlite timer on keyboard. Nice if it stayed only longer if you have to pause typing.

While not perfect if you need a nice qwerty keyboard and want some room to type, this may be the one for you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The phone works good on cingular and the features on the phone are very decent.

Pros:
good screen
128mb sdram
expandable memory
reception
slider keypad is the best
WI-Fi is very dencet
Syncs very good with other devices
speakerrrrrrrrrrrrrsssssss are loud

Cons:
Horrible camera for its price
Processor is very slow
flash and the zoom and the camera suck as well.

Thats is. Over all its a good phone if you dont care about the camera or the speed of the processor

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

After the reset, it worked perfectly, automatically...I should not have gone messing with things. :p

Pros-
-Happily surprised at the battery life..I sit at work all day with MSN and AIM running at all times...and on breaks read books with the pdf reader...can go 2 days without recharging.
-Screen size is great
-love the slide-able keyboard.
-very easy to upload regular mp3s are ringtones. very easy to upload anything actually.

Cons-
just fyi..the wifi eats the battery fairly quickly. luckily, don't have that on while at work. Just at home.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The form factor is a bit bulky at first but over time you'll get used to it. As a phone it makes clear calls & the only bother is probably holding it if not using Bluetooth. The screen is excellent with a vibrant display, and has a really good sound system. Windows Media is familiar and great to use for music, videos, and movies. The QWERTY Keyboard is decent, good layout, not to great with the flat buttons, but still a good effort. Web-browsing is also great, paired with a huge screen, viewing web pages is just like having a laptop with you. One of the best features of the Cingular 8125 is the camera that snaps great shots with its 1.3 Mega-Pixel Camera. Its a pure Pocket PC that offers great business tools with the ability to put games, and other applications to make it truely universal.

The Goods!!!
1. Windows Mobile 5.0 Platform
2. Windows Media Player
3. Bluetooth
4. Battery Life
5. Huge Screen
6. Touchscreen
7. Internet
8. Infrared Port
9. 1.3 Mega-Pixel Camera
10. Sound Speaker
11. Games & Extra Applications
12. Wi-Fi is Great

The Decent!!!
1. QWERTY Keyboard (Why Flat Keys?)

The Bad!!!
1. Bulky Size
2. Rare but Bothersome Freezes

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
