narn3049 submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Back when I got this phone it was 2005. I was amazed that a phone could work with itunes, and the phone I had previously the V180 didn't even have a camera. So I was happy to receive and use this phone. It was amazingly durable, and an amazing phone altogether. I dropped it and even got it wet a couple of times, resulting on the lights on the sides for some reason to flash sometimes, but besides that little issue it all worked. I gave it to my sister when her phone broke, she got it wet, and then the battery failed about a year later.

I would still get this phone, but I LOVE my iPhone better

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pedroe13 submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

Personally this phone was an upgrade from my Nokia 3120, and I'm talking way back in the day. The interesting thing about this phone is that it is the very first phone that had Itunes as a Music Player and was the hottest thing in the market back in 2004. The phone did not last a year in the U.S market since it was bulky, somewhat heavy; Motorola was quick to release the E2 Rokr with the same features in Europe and the slimmer version SLVR L7 for the U.S. I personally liked the phone since it was an upgrade from a low budget Nokia but with today's technology this phone does not compare to any of today's free phones and has no other purpose of use other than as a paper weight.

PROS:
*GREAT MUSIC PLAYER
*HAS A 3D STEREO AUDIO ENHANCER
*DESCENT CAMERA WITH A FLASH
*HAS A MINI SD MEMORY CARD SLOT
*LONG BATTERY LIFE
*ITS WHITE
*SMALL AND FITS IN THE PALM OF YOU HAND PERFECTLY
*SPEAKERPHONE IS DESCENT

CONS:
*CALL AUDIO IS VERY LOW, EVEN IF YOU BRING UP THE VOLUME YOU WILL HAVE A HARD TIME LISTENING
*NOT ABLE TO USE SONGS AS RINGTONES
*NO VOICE RECORDER
*RINGTONE VOLUME AGAIN VERY LOW, SOMETIMES YOU WOULD NOT KNOW ITS RINGING
*HEAVY AND BULKY COMPARED TO OTHER PHONES
*ITUNES CRASHED CONSTANTLY CAUSING THE PHONE TO CRASH

I never disliked the phone, but I didn't love it either hence I am giving it three stars. If you are looking for something retro and want to keep a piece of Itunes history, then maybe this phone maybe is for you, other than that, stick to a newer free phone, this phone is not great.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

TheScavenger submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I had a Nokia phone before this one, and as soon as I started using this phone, I drastically missed my old one, despite it's constant shutting off. This phone used to be my moms old phone and she gave it to me as a temporary. I've had it for about 3 months and my over all opinion is okay.

PROS:
-It has good sound quality for the ipod part
-The screen is very bright and big for its size
-Bluetooth
-Battery is really good! I'm used to charging my phone every night but I can't with this because the battery's always full
-Good for texting with out looking
-My last phone didn't have the easy forward option. I had to go to contacts, search the name, insert and then repeat the process for each one. With this phone you just check off the name that you want to send the message to and go down your list. When your done, you hit "send" and you're good!
-MP3 player...that's pretty cool!

CONS:
-It's freakin HEAVY!
-It's think, and a bar phone. I personally really don't like bar phones, although something like the iPhone would do, but it's a thick bar phone which when in your pocket it's extremely bulgy.
-It's extremely slow at texting. I text a mile a minute, and I use iTAP, so when I need to type of instead of me I look at the screen to see if it needs changing and it's still typing about a sentence behind.
-The delete button and the call button are strategically placed so when you want to backspace because you typed "rood" instead of "good" you sometimes hit the big bulky send button and Woops!
-You can't cancel a sending message. I highly miss that feature, for it was a life saver on my old phone.
-The music player went off in my little hand bag once. So my phone was "sining" =P

So, if you don't text a lot and you're a big MP3 listener, and you have abnormally big pockets, than this phone's for you. If not, then I highly suggest something else.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Pizmatica submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

One thing people have to keep in mind when reading a phone review, is that its one persons opinion. Now, if 500 people say the same exact thing, then YES, that is a flaw in THAT phone. I was one of those yuppies that bought this phone for $350 the first day it came out. No i couldnt wait the 1 month til the price drops in half...I needed it then. I was at the mall looking to buy a new cell phone, and also to buy an iPod. And there ya go...killed 2 birds with one stone.

GOOD
-Tough phone - when dropped..never blanked out, and very MINIMAL scratches.
-Speaker phone kicks ***
-good reception - could be better...
-itunes....need i say more?
You can put iTunes on speaker with some kick *** sound?? iPods cant even do that!

BAD
- dropped call at least once a day. Doesnt sound like much when making 30 calls a day but...its always that ONE IMPORTANT CALL that gets dropped.
- This is my second Rokr. Got a new one becuase the first one A) wouldnt charge right B) Software malfunction once a week.
-Not a big deal, but i personally HATE the navigation joystick. Its a phone, not Atari.

UGLY
Although i do enjoy Cingulars service and plans, i Lost respect for them when i took out insurance they wouldnt replace my original phone. After freaking out and screaming on the phone they finally agreed to send me a refurbished one. Now, I havent had any problems with this one yet, but to me, when ya spend $350 on a phone and then pay $5 monthly insurane...you have to offer some kind of retribution...they woudnt. Now, cingular forbids to ensure Rokr's anymore. Go figure...

Although I personally think I paid too much for it, its definetly worth and ebay offer of $150 or so...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I got it for the price (19.99 @ Radio Shack at the time) as well as the features. It was an average phone, all around.

Pros:
Good sound
Free 512 micro/sd card. (Saved a brotha $50)
Pushable buttons
Reasonable size
Decent text message memory.

Cons
15-50 sencond videos? What's up wit dat?
VGA camera. enough said on that
Dropped several calls.

It was liveable when i had it, but I knew that better phones existed. I'm sure that the SLVR, the updated version, is better; but I'm happy where I'm at now.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

If you're in the market for a good multimedia phone than I would go for this model. It's got your BASIC features such as a BASIC camera, but has flash! It has a unique user interface, and the menus can take some getting used to. This phone is great because you can actually hear people. The speakerphone feature is outstanding.. The ITunes is great, however the con would be the transfer rate when transferring songs from your computer to your ROKR. It's incredibly slow.. but it's not an Ipod.. Overall, I highly recommend this phone to anyone that is looking for a multimedia phone.. It has all the features you need.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

JeSsxMa submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Ok I have been a big nokia and sony ericsson fan, I have never really liked motorola but i decided to give it a chance. I never should have. This one is not so bad but i don't recommend it to anyone unless you just want a simple phone that gets HORRIBLE reception and is hard to songs on.

The phone is not that bad but i would much more recommend a flip phone to anyone. I recently had the sony ericsson z520 and the sony ericsson z500 and i regret getting this phone. I liked my Sony ericsson z520 much better, I wish i never got this phone. It makes me appriciate nokias and sony ericssons.

Im getting a new cell phone because i am sick and tired of the phone NEVER having reception. Even in VERY high signal areas i drop a call a day.

Over all i dont recommend this phone to ANYONE.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Sure its not the greatest in the world, but its a phone with itunes. In a way, only being able to download 100 songs stinks but once again its a phone. Having this feature saved me $300... Why get an Ipod when you have this?

CAMERA: Good... cmon its a phone!

SOUNDS (Volume): Great quality! You can hear clearly and people can hear you clearly. The itunes sound is awesome with or without the headphones.

BATTERY: Good. Just depends on how you use it that day. It alot, then expect to charge it everynight. If not, it can go 2 to 3 or even 4 days without charging.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It's up there with the s710, w600i, and the classic Nokias.

I can play my iTunes songs now. yay!

Best value of all the music phones. Can't beat the price!

Can change memory cards (w600 can't)

When a song has bass, you can hear it and it makes the whole phone vibrate.

Has bluetooth

Camera has flash

Airplane mode is useful.

Cons:

Screen got scratched up easily.

Bluetooth keeps reporting a weak signal and then I can't use my bluetooth for 10 seconds. This is with my phone in my pocket. It might be my HS850 though.

Would like to see USB 2.0 in the next version.

It would be nice if a 1GB microSD would come out.

---------------------------------------------

I give it a 5.0 because I live in a basement with weak signal. I used to have an Audiovox SMT5600 and a Samsung x427m and this phone solved my reception problem. The iTunes and Camera are just bonuses.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Obsessed with Phones submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

One of the greatest quality blunders of the cell phone industry...

I purchased this phone in November, and have done no less than 6 warranty replacements in that time.

The concept of the phone is great. The software is non-user friendly and does not encourage use of your own music collection. It prefers (for obvious marketing reasons) for you to purchase new iTunes rather than use your existing mp3 collection. I am rather picky about the software I install on my computer and greatly dislike having junkware TSRs (like iTunes) load up every time I start the computer. All of these could be excused if not for the -major- software issues with the phone itself.

Each of the 7 ROKRs I have had have had 2 key flaws:
1) The text messaging eventually starts to lock up the phone, for which there is no solution but to take the battery out.
2) Occasionally the phone will, without warning or obvious pattern or reason as to why, show a white screen and reboot.

I have heard from dozens of others who have had these same key issues, and the warranty replacement department at the cell phone company seems to usually have this model on backorder. This alone should speak poorly of the quality of this model.

Pros:
* It's nice having a built in music player
* Stereo speakers
* Battery life is decent
* Airplane mode
* Predictive text

Cons:
* The phone is unreliable, locks up frequently and reboots for no good reason
* The navigation joystick is awkward and imprecise
* Did I mention that the phone doesn't work 1/2 the time?
* The ringer ID function plays the same tone whether the person is calling you or sending a text message
* The disco lights flash while the phone is charging. This is seemingly innocuous, but a pain if you charge the phone near where you sleep.
* Limited onboard phone memory

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

russianspy1234 submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Ill review by feature organization on this site.
Weight/Dimensions
Good

Battery Life:
Decent, but I do have to charge it every night unlike previous phones.
Screen:
Gets minor scratches quite easily, but decent
Memory :
No complaints, its a phone not an IPOD.
Phone Book:
Again no complaints.

Polyphonic Ringtones Chords:
Preloaded ringtones are nice
Ringer Profiles:
Havent used em
Vibrate:
I dont know how to say this without sounding dirty, but the vibrator is too weak.
Bluetooth:
Great
Picture ID:
Pictures display kinda small but I love this feature
Ringer ID:
Havent used it
Voice Dialing:
Couldnt find it.
Custom Ringtones supports MP3 format (not shareable with iTunes) / built-in ringtone composer
I found a difficult way to use songs as ringtones. First I made a good sized file, the first 33 seconds of summer nightfall, then i sent it to my PDA, then i used its bluetooth to send it to the phone.
Predictive Text Entry Technology:
I hate this feature, but its better than my last phones.
Side Keys:
Keys are customizables, very helpfull.
Music:
Main reason I bought this phone, its great.
Stereo Speakers:
Very good.
Photo & Video
Camera:
Decent for a phone, but dont expect much
Flash:
The initial review I read on the site I hought my phone said no flash so I was pleasently suprised. Its more of a flashlight than a flash but it does what it needs to do. Quality is deffinitely less with it on though.
Video:
Same as camera
Games:
Mine came with crazy, a game not unlike worms. Helps pass the time when I kill the battery on my PDA
Headset Jack:
The little cover gets in the way of plugging in the headphones, kinda annoying.
Speaker Phone:
Considering how great the speakers are for iTunes I expected more, but not too bad.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

A-z 0-9 submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This phone is discontinued so now you can get it on the cheap. I spent $50 on it brand new and it comes with a 512 mb card. That was worth it right there.
I was looking for something as an MP3 player and for a phone, I'm impressed. The headphones it came with are ok, but it does come with an adapter so I can use my good headphones which sounds great on this phone even without an equalizer. There is a hack floating around to get by the 100 song limit, but so far hasn't been an issue for me. That's still about 6 hours or more of music. Even sounds good in the car.
The camera/video. HHHMMMPPPHH. Well, it is a phone. Don't expect much. The pictures look decent on the phone but not worth trying to print. I'll give it this, it's better then my first digital camera.
This phone comes with a lot of features I'm still learning. So far, no regrets. I might actually keep it the whole 2 year agreement.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

fdk71265 submitted this review of the Motorola ROKR E1:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This phone is really cool. I just downloaded over 50 songs and it was so simple. It's also was very fast to do for a 1.1 usb. I don't understand the bad reviews. I had it for 2 weeks and I got it for $49 plus I received a $50 credit and a $30 customer appreciation credit from cingular. It's a cool looking phone the Itunes are very easy to download it's a little heavy which is something I like (I had a RAZR and I didn't like it at all.) This phone STOMPS! the Razr. You can't beat this phone for all that it has and the price is unbeatable. The calls are clear and so far no dropped calls for me. I switched from the old Att to Cingular so that's why it was so cheap for me and maybe that's why my reception is better. The Cingular store's by me don't even have any of these phones. I found mine online. If you want a really great phone this is it. The only downside for me personally is there's no voice dialing. The Itunes hold's only 100 songs and the battery life is O.K. not great especially when you play the itunes alot. It's Like having an Ipod and cell phone in one. Also a radio would have been cool to have. I'm NOT A BIG FAN OF MOTOROLA PHONES. But I seem to keep going back to buying one. In summary this is and excellent phone at an excellent value and I recommend it to anyone who want's to be different. I having seen anyone that has this phone that I know of and I always get asked about it when I'm out and about.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Its really cute and I love 2 just hold it. Never wanted an iPod but this phone caught my eye, I like the idea of having a MP3 player integrated with a phone. So far, I haven't had any major problems with it. It's sooo much better than the stinking razr. I love the large clear screen, stereo speakers, the size of it. Not really a big flip phone fan, this is perfect for people who don't like flip phones. My biggest pet peeve is not being able to have my contact list on the sim card if I have picture id. But, I understand why it works that way. The slvr is pretty cool too but the rokr is the best I've had so far. if you are hard of hearing this phone is perfect!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

USB 1.1 port(so slow)
2. design isn't good
3. itunes is not up 2 date
4. memory card always comes out of place so the music doesn't work
5.can't make songs as ringtones
6. small screen
7. Not impressed with battery life
8. when it turns to 2 battery it goes dead in the same day.
9. not that impresses with camera
10 really thick
11. rhythm lights are boring
12. itunes is so slow
13. battery life goes faster with music
14. the bluetooth screwed up the phone, it froze on me and rebooted 2 times
15. better ring tones

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Deleting things should be fast! I don't want to see a little trash can lid open & close! It's also slow for the standard things like hanging up etc..
Another Motorola drawback is the one-number-per-name routine which they don't seem to want to do away with.
And, finally, the phone simply will turn off it's ringer, change ring tones and do other tricks w/o asking!
Now, good stuff?...The screen is bright & colorful, sound quality is good as is RF. Solid feel & weight and the camera is more than decent.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
