Feels solid. Email is blackberry awesome. Battery life is wonderful beside other pda's and smartphones on the market lately.

It doesn't have a camera or instant messaging application but that's okay I don't need either. I've wanted this since it debuted and am happy with it now that I have it. Have tried others but still come back to this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

First they start hard resetting ( turning off and then cycling back on) then once that happens i have issues with dropping calls, unit locking up, blue-tooth issues. I am with Verizon in the Atlanta area and am currently trying to get it replaced with another model Blackberry.

Pros
Size
Screen
Keyboard - Sure-type works well very fast
Battery Life

Cons
Hard Resets Frequently
Occasional echo ( Blue-tooth and Handheld)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I personally got it because I wanted to see why no one in our company liked them. After I played with it for the first couple of times, I really fell in love with it.

wryanmcse submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I'm using Sprint with the 7130e. The email services is great but the feedback I'm getting on phone calls is that there's lots of popping like I'm breaking up and I've dropped a few calls. I had a Sanyo for the past two years without problems. I really hate to give up the Blackberry at this point. I also noticed that if I move my hand around on the phone during a call, even just lifting a finger off the phone, a loud popping noise gets transmitted to the caller. (Tested with another phone up to the opposite ear ;-) It seems the mic gain on this thing is way too sensitive. My wife always has to ask me to lower my voice when I call her. I'm thinking about switching to the 8700 series hoping that they've made some better adjustments. It seems odd there's no mic hole on either handset like many other pda phones. And I agree the speaker isn't as loud as my Sanyo, but then they're known for their loudness and reception...

Love the email, disappointed in the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It rocks. So far the sound quality has been excellent. The data has also been excellent. i am getting EVDO in places in Texas that I did not know were available such as Brenham - think Bluebell Ice Cream and 18 cows. Wow.

Pros -
-Sound quality
-Screen is beautiful
-SureType is awesome
-BES Server has been flawless
-BIS is running a mixture of 7 POP and IMAP accounts
-Speaker phone
-Google Local, Google IM, Yahoo IM, Blackberry Messenger
-Soccer Scores - Germany 2006
- Bluetooth

Cons -
- sometimes the screen does not do well outside in direct sunlight.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pittsburgh1 submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I thought it was the phone. But then i got a new model of this and still no one seems to be able to hear me on this phone. I don't understand it. Maybe everyone else is wearing headsets. The guy behind me at Verizon said his sound reception was horrible too and he uses it as a paperweight. I get so many dropped calls and people telling me that they can't hear me that I hardly use this.

The email also stopped because I am told I went over quota. I updated to new software, spent an hour with technical support and that still didn't fix it.

In theory, it all seemed great. But the reality of the phone seems to me to be expensive and inferior to what is out there. I tried a Treo too by the way and was disappointed in that. In my experience, although I love having phone numbers from my computer in my phone, the PDAs are still not at the level that make it a satisfying experience. But maybe it is just me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

CJE3200 submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This is my second RIM BlackBerry device and I am definitely pleased. I recently upgraded from the 7250 to the 7130e and I am very impressed with the speed and the memory the 7130e has. The screen is very impressive and I love the EVDO along with the new SureType technology. E-mail is very fast and so is the internet browser. There may be a couple cons depending on the user. I suppose they could have put on a camera on it, but I would never use it anyway. I am still used to the full keyboard, but I am adjusting fine to the two letter key. All in all a great phone. I highly recommend this phone as a BlackBerry enthusiast.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bgould submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I am very surprised that no one else has identified frequent crashing or that Verizon has removed many of the features built into the device. I can only imagine that most people assumed that eventually they'll be able to figure out how to use the features in the manual built into the phone -- even though the features no longer exist.

I was getting Assert errors about 10 times per day, so I replaced the phone. The new one had the same problems, so I returned it.
I would have kept the phone (I love the typing software), but if I cannot receive phone calls because the phone crashed, it is totally useless.

The technology from RIM looks terrific, but RIM says that Verizon made it unstable when they hacked it to remove the standard features.

As best I can tell, they made it IMPOSSIBLE to load any ring tones that were not pre-loaded (there is no way to load files and get-it-now doesn't work either. It is impossible to load any software not pre-loaded. And features like "get your GPS location" were removed for no reason that can be explained.

Has no one else experienced the crashing?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

average joe submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This device is far better than the prior models. I did panic, initially, because I could not read it in direct sunlight, and I almost returned it. After playing around and changing the "theme" to a white background and usage of bold fonts, it then became acceptable viewing (though it could be a little better, nonetheless). Browsing with EVDO rules, because it's fast! When indoors or at night, the screen offers beautiful, crisp resolution. The narrower footprint is far better for how it fits in the hand! Suretype is just fine, don't let that scare you off- it's just RIM's version of a T-9 logic for those heavy text message users out there. The middle "short cut" key can be for whatever you choose it to be and is very appreciated! Also, I like being able to move icons around by order of importance (I'm not sure if older models allowed for that). Being able to immediately jump into the phone feature, regardless of where you're at, by simply pushing the green button is very appreciated. If you want to really love this model, make sure you spend some time in the "help" application- it's worth your while. PROS: 1. Very cool looking 2. Fits in your hand much more comfortable 3. The green button on the upper left and the white shortcut button in the middle left make for wonderful speed keys 4. The screen, in indoor or nighttime lighting is very nice quality resolution 5. Much more phone friendly- like they intended it to be CONS: 1. Even after changing themes, it's not ideal for reading in direct sunlight (rumor has it Cingular's 8000 series has better sunlight resolution) 2. It doesn't ship with even a cheaper plastic stand to keep it upright 3. Getting occasional "data connection" issues where my mail and browser wont work, and it's frustrating. 4. Speaker phone needs to be a little louder- like when in your car. 5. My Motorola blue tooth disconnects a lot, & it didn't with my Nextel BB. 6. 3-Way calls don't show both of the other parties names on your screen.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jazzy1986 submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I give it 4.0 based on that it does not have voice dialing capabilities. I have had this phone since January and have not been disappointed in it's overall performance or what I expected to get from this phone. I have had to wipe it clean once and backed everything up before doing so. When I restored the information everything went back to the way I had it set in the phone, theme, wallpaper etc. What I really like about the backup/restore is what is backed up, all messages, call logs, songs downloaded to the phone, pics, everything that was there prior to glitch. Like I said though, there has only been one incident that I've had to clear it all out and start over. Far less trouble than the windows devices. Maybe the next generation of devices from BB will include voice dial, that would really make this an exceptional device to have.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

zippaul submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

The 7130e on Verizon's network was fantastic as far as reception and voice quality goes. The Blackberry 7130e does what all Blackberrys seem to do very well, e-mail. Second to none as far as I can tell. The scroll wheel on the side makes moving through the graphical user interface (gui) very easy and selecting from the associated menus just as simple. The phone is light but not as slim as one would think. It is okay in a jacket pocket and somewhat bulky in front pants pocket. There are a couple of negatives, one was a deal breaker for me. No voice activated dialing. For a business centric phone and as my first Blackberry you would think this would be a standard feature. If you are on the road alot, literally driving down the road, it is very difficult to scroll through your contacts and place a call. It is actually dangerous, not good. The web browser even on Verizon's evdo (plenty speedy) isn't very good either. The PDA functions are okay. If RIM were to correct both, especially the voice activated dialing this would be nearly a perfect phone. It has no camera, it has no media functions really at all. But who cares? It is a very good phone overall. If lack of voice dialing does not bother you then this may be the phone for you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Ev DO is awesome fast Internet for sure. I like how you can personalize the background picture besides the ones that come with the phone. This phone is made for younger audience who have mastered text messaging. 2 letters per key is really easy , but not as easy as the regular blackberry's. I have it synced with outlook and it works awesome would recommend this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

lobmeyer submitted this review of the BlackBerry 7130e:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I would like to report a huge problem with this phone to the group. Have other people noticed the problems with battery life. I finally got to a 3rd level Verizonwireless person and the issue is a bug in the firmware for authentication to the broadband networks. Here is what happens. If you are in an area that has limited or EVDO or you loose EVDO when going into a building or underground your Battery is about to be discharged.

According to Verizon RIM has a bug in the code that authenticates you to the broadband networks. EVDO uses a different authentication protocol then the 1G network that uses CHAP. When you switch between 1G and 3G the code gets confused and tries the wrong authentication method with the broadband type. This causes extra communication to happen as it tries to authenticate over an over. At this point you completely loose data connectivity (i.e. no email or web access) and your battery goes into extreme discharge mode. Battery life on my units have been reduced to under 2 hours standby usage from a 100% charge when this happens.

The fix if you notice this for now is to turn your radio off and back on again.

Verizon is waiting on a fix from RIM. They claim it will be out some time this quarter.

I would suggest not buying this phone until this problem is resolved.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Myself I like having a qwerty keyboard to respond to e-mails within a minute. Thats me. If you don't mind waiting to reply to your sender by sometimes having to push twice to get the letter you want, then you should have this.

Pros-Great Screen

Cons-No qwerty keyboard, no speaker,

In closing. Research what you want first before your purchase. Speed in response time with less keystrokes, and a good color screen, or slow response emails (double clicking a key to get one letter) with an awesome screen. Good Luck with your decision. And remember it's yours to make.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The only reason why I gave it a 4.5 is because it resets sometimes after I upload new software. Other than that the pda and phone capabilities are fantastic.
