Too bad u have to transform the thing just to get it going, then of course if you happen to breathe the picture comes out all blurred. its great if you put a 4gb card in there fr mp3s hell thats bigger than my ipod. so ,
Pros:
1. the flashlight is pretty bright
2.
3. it fell in a puddle of water and came back from the dead 2 days later
Cons :
1. have to open to use camera
2. slow software
3. a little clunky
4. if you take a picture of yourself the lcd screen is upside down
a rating of 3.5 somwhere between not having a phone and having the " jesus iPhone"

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I just now had to replace the battery and it only cost $20 from 3rd party.

Pros:
Has everything pretty much. Even a business card reader and motion games.

Cons:
Mine can't take other Micro SD Cards. Maybe somebody else knows something I don't.

If anyone still carries it its worth it.

bigjax11 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Have had this phone since the day it was released. And have never wanted another phone since. I tried once to let this phone go. I upgraded (down grade in my opinion) to a palm treo 650. Used the palm for about 2 months, and switched back to my 940. If you want a reliable phone will a bunch of extras, this is the phone for you.
The camera is great, 2 mega pixels is more then enough to take a picture of friends or dogs humping legs, whatever floats your boat.
Blue tooth on this phone is awsome. Let the phone do all the work for you.

I have one problem with this phone, and that is finding accessories for it. I was able to get a new battery, after my first lasted almost 3 years. However, cases are hard to find for this phone. And no software upgrades have been released for almost a year now. I just think they found out what most people find out when they purchase this phone. Its perfect, no need to change.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Comcc submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for 3 months & I'm satisfied with it's basic functionality. If you're not going to buy an extended battery for this phone, I recommend you reconsider. With the standard battery and what I think is VERY light usage, it will barely make it through the day. The extended battery is dead after 12 hrs of moderate to heavy usage. The camera is absolutely terrible. I've tried everything I can think of & several suggestions I've read about to get the camera to focus accurately. Nothing has worked yet. I don't think this can be emphasized enough. I got this phone intending to use it as a partial replacement for a dedicated digital camera. That's impossible with this phone. The zoom is useless as well, since it just enlarges a blurry photo. Oddly, the camcorder doesn't have the same problem. The swivel hasn't been a problem at all, beyond the inconvenience of having to swivel the flip to use the camera/camcorder. When the phone flips open, since the swivel will put the phone in camera mode, this often results in the camera activating when it is opened. On the positive side, the Internet & data features on this phone (for me) are indispensable. I'm able to use it with my laptop & PDA (bluetooth is GREAT) for high speed internet. I typically see speeds from 400-800Kb/s (basic DSL speeds) for $40 more per mo. Voice recognition & Speaker phone work well.
If you have a data plan, try Google Local!
Pros:
Expandable memory
Bluetooth WORKS!
User independent voice recognition
EV-DO
Java (Google Local/Opera Browser/Etc.)
Speaker phone
Sprint $40/mo. Unlimited data PAM plan
Camcorder works well
Cons:
2MP CAMERA IS USELESS!!!
2X optical zoom is useless
Battery life is terrible
Swivel is inconvenient most of the time
Often the phone flips open to camera
Almost impossible to load ringers, apps, & wallpaper that is not purchased from Sprint (there are workarounds)
No PC link total solution software available
Signal strength could be better

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The fact that I can speak a text. The camcorder.
I am able to drop songs from my ITUNES right into the card reader and listen to it throgh the headset on the phone or on speaker.

Somebody else mentioned they had to buy from the sprint store. I HAVE NEVER Bought any of the sprint songs, I am able to listen to anything from my PC transfer directly to my phone

I watch videos on the phone and also Watch movies and TV shows that i download to my pc and transfer to the phone.

I can watch full length movies...new releases ETC... ALL FOR FREE!!!

There is so much to this phone I love everything about it!!!!
Too much to nsme!!!

THE ONLY CON: THE CAMERA IS TERRIBLE!!!
You have to keep the camera really still

But everything else makes up for that
I love this phone it was worth the price
Everyday I find something new to do with it

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

concerned submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

Samsung a940(Sprint) is overall an alright phone. This Samson phone is able to play TV, able to get on the internet faster then any other carrier's Internet service. You can even get music videos for about 2 dollars a pop,...but lets first talk about the phone and not the carrier.
When you purchase the phone it says you are capable to wirelessly connect and share files and music with phones, PC by using Bluetooth and Transflash memory. WRONG!The Samsung says you can do these things but its a lie. I've tried sharing files and music with other bluetooth phones and it never received the file or was not able to open it due to the file format. I even Paired with a Samsung a920(Sprint) w/ my Samsung a940 and that didn't even work. This samsung phone is sooo restricted that it won't play songs you transfer from your PC. Your only option is to buy the songs off of Sprint Music Store. The only thing the bluetooh will pair to is a Bluetooth Headset.
I bought this phone to play music and music videos from my pc and other bluetooh compatible phones, but never happened. I did buy this phone to buy a song for 2 dollars and get charged 10 Cents per 2kb!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

makriegz276 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I went to the Sprint Store today and asked them what's up with the camera on this a940. The Sprint Man said that although you can still buy this phone elsewhere (Best Buy and such) Sprint had discontinued the phone. Although all over the packaging (and Best Buy Employees say) that the phone has a 2.0 MGPixel camera, IT DOES NOT. I was told that in fact, the camera is less that on my current phone (Sanyo PM-8200). That's not terrible, but it's no 2.0 MegaPixel camera.

Also, because the phone has so many features and an inadequate battery, the standby time is ugly.

However, because of the awesome features, I gave the phone a 4. One not-so-well-known feature is that the phone has a motion sensor in it. You can play games and the phone knows how you are holding it. You can bowl by flipping your wrist etc.

Sum Up: The phone has some kickin features, but because of its crappy camera and bogus battery life i only give it a 4.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Evil d submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I purchase roughly 4 phones per year, and this phone is remarkable. The battery life is far more immense than the Samsung MM-A900. It has a better signal, more menu options and a far superior camera than the other 2 phones that i have had this year. The only downside that i have found is that you have to have a super steady hand to take a clear picture. However if it is put into multi shot mode the pictures usually come out perfect.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dkeith216 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

Hummmm, well I am coming from a Sanyo 5600 to a Sanyo 8300 and now to this phone. So I have some likes and dislikes. The phone is pretty much one of the best phone I have ever owned, size is not to big, graphics is awesome, menu is easy and creative. Phone allows you to get as creative as you can.

Pros

Bluetooth,
Camera/Video Camera
Mp3 player
EVDO makes the internet a breeze,
can see a change too when watching Media player too.
The creativity of the phone it self (menu, dialing numbers, caller ID, screen saver, foreground options.

Cons,

When on the internet, it's hard to migrate cause of how the D pad is made, sometimes you hit ways you don't want to go, and no I don't have big hands,

Camera has to be help extra extra extra still to take good pictures, if you move the least bit the picture is messed up.

Takes a while for pictures to be sent too, they are usually placed in a outbox and take a minute to be actually sent.

Twist top makes me nervous but seems pretty durable,

Battery life on it is horrible, if you buy this phone plan on buying an extended battery pack as well. (the phone comes with the desktop charger so you can charge your phone and the extra battery.

the phone is packed with types of stuff to do, I rate it a good phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ConnectedWirelessUniKiosk submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I came from using absolutely incredible Nokia PDA and Symbian Phones. Although I love the expandability of PDA and Symbian OS's I rate this phone very highly. I have read many of the reviews on this particular model. Many of then say the Camera shots are blurry, no MP3 ring tones, bad battery life, etc. I must correct a few of these flaws. First off it is MP3 ring tone capable. I use MP3 ring tones for just about every one of my contacts. As for the camera...every good photographer would understand that you MUST set up a shot, focus, change lighting, etc. That is why the camera in this phone provides those features. After changing the settings around on the phone you can take very high quality photo's. Clearer than i have ever seen on any cell phone. You must also keep in mind that it is only a 2 mega-pixel camera and the standard digital camera is 4-5 mega-pixels. The battery life is the last complaint. I have to agree with this one. The battery life does not last long if you use power vision frequently. If you just use it to call it last quite awhile, but why buy a phone this capable without planing on using the features. That is why you invest in a car adapter or an extended life battery. My phone never runs out of life now that I have those simple commodities.
Now for the Pros and Cons

Pros

-The Power Vision on this phone works very well
-Great camera if you know how to use it
-MP3 feature is INCREDIBLE...that is my favorite feature
-Changeable Menu styles
-Very Clear Screen (thanks to Samsung)
-Very clear and loud Speakers
-MP3 ring tone capable!
-Organizer Capability
I could go on and on!

Cons
-The original battery's life is short
-The swivel might cause screen failure
problems with rough use
-Wish it had more expandability (Operating System) but very workable

I absolutely love the phone. I give it a high rating. If you actually know how to use the features (specifically the camera) you will get excellent results.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Songstress submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I bought this phone when it first came out. The first few weeks I had the phone, it was cool, till I took a picture with it. PICTURES WERE BLURRED TO HELL!!! If you don't stand completely still, and your subject don't stand still after taking the shot, a blurry picture is the result. Also, the battery is a piece of crap. I usually keep my phone on at work and before I leave, my battery is near dead. The web access stayed hung up on the phone. I would usually have to turn the phone off and take the battery off and of course by that time the battery was almost dead. Yes it has all these "great" features, but for the money you spend, IT IS NOT WORTH IT. It also drop calls real bad. Of course all the bad stuff happened after it was too late to return the phone. I also had the Samsung e105. I WILL NEVER PURCHASE ANOTHER SAMSUNG PHONE AGAIN. Stick with Sanyos and Nokia phones. Samsung phones aren't worth the money you spend purchasing them.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

So how can you expect it to be decent in the cellular phone???? This phone's camera has absolutely no manual separate controls (so it's a joke).

SOUND QUALITY OF THE PHONE:
This is another issue on all Samsung phones
(including GSM ones). But the extreme horrible sound of this specific phone has more to do with GARBAGE CDMA NETWORK!
CDMA is perferc in JAPAN AND KOREA but not here!

I'm sorry , but I have to give this phone
0.0 points, because I simply get headaches
after I talk to someone on this phone for oever 5 minutes ( due to traditional unproportional CDMA sound quality, plus due to traditional Samsung's muffled sound!).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Though, with all it's new bells and whistles, Samsung still has a few things to work on, such as the camera flash and I do wish they would've included still technology so you wouldn't take distorted pics. and you can't take pics in the dark either. Other than that, the phone is fine. I've seen many complaints about battery life, but I'd say, bog down and get the extended battery ... this is a powerful phone and the extended battery works wonders. Now if only I could find a good noise cancellation BT headset, I'd be fine.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

leamin submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Before I get started, I would like to say that I had the A970 with verizon before I had the A940 with sprint. Go with sprint if you are buying this phone. Verizon limits the phones capabilities.
Pros:
1) A real camera for a change! 2 Mega pixels and Optical Zoom! (The A970 drops the auto focus after a few seconds causing blurry pictures)

2) An awesome Camcorder to catch those special moments. Only limited by your trans flash card or internal memory (which holds about 1 1/2 hours with sound; the A970 limits your video to only 15 seconds a clip)

3) Bluetooth is not limited to just headsets like verizon's version (A970). you can connect to your computer or to another device that has bluetooth; ie..PDA's.

4) The motion activated games on the A940 are awesome. If you don't know what I'm talking about check it out!!! (The A970 has no games)

5) Built in Music player on the front of the phone!!!

6) The Voice to text feature works awesome!!!!!

7) The package comes with the desktop charger, the usb cable, a trans flash card with adapter, and stereo headset!! The A970 comes with the desktop charger only. Also you can use a universal thin pin charger with your sprint phone but not with verizon. This is important due to the fact that almost no one has accessories for this phone just yet.

8) You can download a free driver from the INTERNET (google) and use your phone for a modem. (At broadband speeds in most locations. (verizon doesn't let you do this)

Now the cons;

1) Number one and most important, no ability yet to connect to your computer and sync with your address book or email. (No software yet)

2) Battery life is ok. (Remember ALL the features suck the life out of battery)

3) Can't download songs from the computer to a bluetooth or USB due to no software availability. (Although you can transfer mp3's to your transflash card and then load them on your phone; I haven't figured it out yet though)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Akato submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A940:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I have only had this phone 2 days and it has it all. Before I had this phone I had a LG flip phone (you know the one with the mirror). When I was in search for a new phone that; HAS BLUETOOTH, A CAMERA, FLIPS, AND SPEAKERPHONE. But I got all of this plus some. I am fascinated with the Crystal clear Media Player, High Speed Internet Access to my Laptop, the 2.0MP digital camera, Sirius Radio, Live Television, whole-song download, and the Twistable Display. The Motorola Razar don't have nothing on this phone. I see that some of you say that the "THE BATTERY LIFE IS POOR" it only means that you OVERCHARGED YOUR PHONE. This phone is the best and I would not trade it for anything else.

Pros:
BLUETOOTH
Speakerphone
Cool design
Media Player
High Speed Internet Access
2.0MP Digital Camera (with Flash)
Sirius Radio (LIVE)
Live Television
Full Version Song downloads
Twistable Display
Plays Song Very Loud and Crystal Clear

Cons:
Have to twist screen in order to take a picture

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
