phholm submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I like my N90 a lot. I like the weight, it doesn't feel flimsy. I love not having to open it to answer calls. Also not having to open it to make calls. I have never trained the Voice Dialer and it hardly ever makes a mistake. It is a very smart phone. And the connections are always clear.
The camera takes fantastic still and video pictures outdoors. Indoors, it will take great videos. But oddly, stills are a crap shoot. Sometimes they are dark or sometimes fuzzy. If you have a really BRIGHT room your odds are pretty good.
So it's a phone. If you want a camera, go buy a camera.
If Nokia made this in a 3 mega pixel model, and fixed the indoor shooting problem; They'd have a phone that would compete with a lot of cameras out there.
The camera has Auto Flash, No Flash, Forced Flash, which will help a little with a backlit subject. And Red Eye, which doesn't help. White Balance for ambient lighting. That helps. And an Exposure Value setting.
The camera takes the best stills in the Video position. That's with the screen open and rotated sideways. The big F up is putting the shoot button so high, that your index knuckle will get in the picture or cause the flash to bounce up into lens. Best to rotate the camera head up a little before shooting.
Here's a good tip if your phone is acting sluggish. Try holding down the menu button for 2 seconds. It will show you how many apps are running in the background. I have found as many as 4. And if your phone is acting buggy, free up phone memory, or re-flash the software. The manual will tell you how to do that.
Bluetooth works great. But Web Browsing will run slow or not at all if I have like one Antenna Bar. The Web runs well if I have a good signal.
I have never had WAP before this phone. So I don't know if this is a problem with this phone or all phones. I have had clear voice calls with one Bar, and even no Bars. So I don't get it.
I paid 400 at Wolf Camera with T- Mobile. No complaints with either company.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

cellular_student submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

OVERALL EXPOSITION:
The phone is magnificent. I've had so much fun with this phone. I have taken over 50 videos at several different concerts and during a few vacations. I have taken over 900 pictures and the camera is amazing. The pictures will come out great but it does require a bit of technique to learn how to use the auto-focus at its best. The operating system is only the best--expect nothing short from Nokia. The software that the phone comes with is amazing too. Adobe Photoshop for mobile phones allows you to customize your pictures in hundreds of different ways. The menu system is customizable and the easiest Nokia OS to operate so far. The clamshell design is perfect, after 7 months of service it is still firm and closes tightly. It is a solid phone, not cheaply made, and has an incredible amount of integrity. As almost all Nokia products. My only complaint would be the headset that the phone comes with, which just might be the worst Nokia invention ever made. Where do you talk into it? My advice, purchase an additional headset, preferably a Bluetooth, or even an FM Radio headset.

PROS:
Auto-focus
Red-Eye reduction
Adobe Photoshop
Customizable menu keys
Edge & WCDMA
Expandable memory
Internal flash memory
Nokia PC Suite software

CONS:
Poor daily practicality
Heavy
Size
New N Series phones have 3.2 megapixel and larger memory

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dcsobral submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Ok, I have owned one for two months now, and I _am_ happy with it. The lack of vibracall has not been such a problem as I first expected. Granted, it sucks at meetings where letting it ring is simply not acceptable, but I found that I don't have all that many of those. Second, it _is_ loud, but I found out I simply won't hear it (or, perhaps, recognize it) in very loud environments, such as a shopping mall.

I see many people complaining about the camera, but I simply do not have complains there. There are many camera controls (though, really, it being all software, why the hell not provide all controls one expects those days?), and I have been able to take good pictures in very different settings. Now, given how big the thing is, it _could_ have a standard tripod attachment... What I _did_ find out about the camera, is that the focus is _slow_. You really do need to wait until the green box indicating focus is stable.

It's java integration is very good, and that was a please surprise. Java applications are treated no different from symbian ones.

The interface is quite clever, particularly with the flip closed. And it is nicely configurable too. But not quite far enough.

For instance, whenever I turn the flips and flops into camcorder mode, it forces the cell phone into camera or gallery mode. I cannot opt to read a book in widescreen, or play Another World, which is real shame.

But the only really big complain about this phone is that, my version, at least, seems to have a memory leak problem. If I use a lot of applications, and, particularly, if I receive calls or sms while using other applications, the phone gets increasingly slower, and some features simply stop working. Since I do not have anything on the phone memory (that's what mmc cards are for, after all), and since the phone does come with a sizable main memory, that's quite unacceptable. My 3650 used to handle heavier load-outs without a hitch.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

chrisatnyu submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I have no idea how some people gave 4.0-5.0 score to this Overpriced Non-Vibrating Brick!

I have to admit that I learned a huge lesson after my experience with N90, Sony k750 and Samsung D600 (all of them have crappy 2mp cameras that produce, blurry, horrible color and very dull 4x6 photos).

WHAT I LEARNED IS , that 2megapixel sensor means nothing, and is very cheap. And if the digital camera doesn't have anything else but a cheap 2megapixel sensor, it is then far away from being a replacement for a even a basic digital camera!

THE LESSON IS SIMPLE:
Cheap 2megapixel sesnor must be of the same price as 640/480 VGA junk!!!! And there should be no more phones with 640/480 VGA camera JUNK!!!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

maturedude submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

It is upseting for me to talk about my experience with N90, after I had only positive experience with Nokia phones before. But since Nokia talks so much about this phone as if it was a real digital camera, then here I will give it a professional digital camera review!

FIRST OF ALL.
2megapixels is not enough to get decent 4X6 photos (for those who are not well-versed in digital photography). Secondly, if Nokia calls this phone a "professional Image taker"
(laughing loud), then it should have some basic camera controls. Well, N90 doesn't have them!

To let you know, I own one of the newest Panasonic's digital cameras: The FX9 model, that is trully a revolutionarry one for it has an optical image stabilization that eliminates bluriness caused by hand-shake, and on top of that helps taking brilliant night time or indoor photos without causing unnatural color or red eye that are caused by Flash (simply brilliant photos with flash turned off!!!!) It costs only $350! Now, that's a digital camera!

I'm not demanding an OPTICAL zoom from Nokia, because indoors there is no need for it.

CAMERA CONS:
-Most of the images came out of focus!
(it seems that auto-focus in N90 is an advertisement gimmick, for I believe based on my test resluts that there is none in N90!)
-Somethings is definitely wrong with Carls Zeiss lens as well, since most of the photos came out very foggy
-No basic manual control for the camera
-Horrible unnatural color
-Due to a fake Flash lamp the night time shooting or indoor is almost useless with N90.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
Folks: Don't make a mistake such as I did based on phony advertisement of this product by Nokia. I'm glad that this N90 has been delayed on T-Mobile's website. Hopefuly it will discontinue before it officially reaches T-Mobile!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

gsm2006expert submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I inserted my T-Mobile simcard and the phone started making calls with outstanding quality (clear, loud and smooth sound).
HOWEVER: For $600 I expected it to have a decent digital camera. Here where the biggest gimmick got revealed to me.

PHONE:
Positives:
-Loud, clear and smooth sound
-Nice Build and mature design (not for kids who likes Sony or Motorola toy phones, LOL)

PHONE:
Negatives:
-No Vibration! (in 2006?!)
(Shouldn't use Carl Zeiss lens then, if they can't cooperate with Vibrating)

DIGITAL CAMERA:
Negatives:
-Sharpness is much worser than on my old 2mp/without opt. zoom Kodak digital camera
-Absolutely no separate manual control for camera! (even to delete a pic, you have to go to a phone menu!)
-No ISO (sensitivity setting) and Shutter priority speed control (that's for a night time or at home shooting). Every lowest digital camera on today's market has those settings!
-Digital zoom is accessed by pressing a joystick (WHAT?! Is this a camera or toy?)

CONCLUSION:
I don't blame Nokia for not being able to create a decent digital camera yet (even Sony can't). But I strongly blame Nokia for overpricing this phone. This phone's retail price must be no higher than $400!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ILLCOMMUNICATION submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Well my honest opinion of this phone is not good folks. I have had 2 in the past 5 days and still having the same problems. Nokia assures me this is not something they have heard of but come on we all know that most symbian based are slow on accessing menus but both of the phones I have tried have been very slow. I am a nokia lover but this phone sucks. It has some overall cool factors but it is not worth the money if you like to have conversations. I put my sim back in my beat up old nokia 6230 and had perfect reception and sound quality where the n90 just plain had weak to no signal.
Pros:
Carl Zeiss 2 mp camera. Which takes a wonderful photo.
Video is pretty good quality(and has plenty of time to record).
Video call(maybe the coolest feature of the phone but alas tmobile doesnt support umts so it will be years before I could use this feature).
Nice crisp and colorful display.
Great photo editor for the phone.
Cons:
Reception is horrid. It never picks up a good signal.
The bluetooth seems to be a little weak with connection.
The firmware is shot and memory resorces are way to low for a phone that has this many gizmo's on it they need a better processor.
What is the point of an outside display with color if you cannot even put a picture to a contacts information for when they call.
Talk time? Lets just say you need a charger for home, office, and car with this phone. The battery life stinks.
The sync was glitchey. I had to do about 3 times before it took the info.

Dont Buy this Phone unless you only take pictures.
I am returning it today.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

alzej469 submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I bought this phone about 3 weeks ago and to this day I am very impressed with it. It's a fairly large phone, but it isn't heavy and where the phone lacks in size it makes up in features.

Other that using the basic phone functions, I use it for listening to music, taking pictures and the occasional video. In all of these, the phone preforms very well - especially as a camera. Just to clear things up, the camera is very good - not as bad as some people make out. If you are a photo freak, buy a seperate camera - if you like taking photos and want a higher quality camera in a phone, buy the N90.

For me, the biggest fault of this phone is the lack of a vibrate function. However, to compensate - there is a very loud speaker built into the phone, the loudest out of any phone i have heard. Also on the cons is the fairly small memory card supplied with the phone, only 64MB - ideally most users would prefer a bit more space. The phone itself feels solid and quality - and all of the twisting joints are very strong.

Undoubtedly, one of the best things about this phone so far is the 'wow' factor it carries. This phone is highly impressive to look at and a pleasure to use. The outside screen (which is tiny compared to the main screen) is about the same quality as most main phone screens at the moment. The phone is expensive, but you do get what you paid for - If you are a hardcore photographer, buy a digital camera! If you like taking pictures and want a phone combined with a good camera, consider getting this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

SiDeKiCk 2 submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

This phone design is ok. But the features are poorly made when i say poorly made i mean they look like cheap feature and on top of that. The camera is bad and the memory card lot is bad because you will either damage the phone or the memory card and the cheapest is pretty expensive. It picks up bad reception and the worst part of all the screen can rotate but the big problem is that the screen just broke when i flipped it up and i did it gently. Luckiy i knew i place i could go to get an exchange. And i did but not the same phone though.Thats the last time i ever use a nokia, motorola, hp, audiovox, compal, curtial. I give all the company to many chances.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kyle4km submitted this review of the Nokia N90:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I just received this phone from www.plemix.com ( paid close to $950, including shipping). I did not know that the phone has no Vibration ( I'm swear I would never order the phone without this basic component).

CARL ZEISS, huge screen, 2mp is all B.S. when the phone is missing the basic function.

I will return this phone ( and will be now charged 20% restocking fee!).
I'm asking Phonescoop. com staff to remove Vibration spec. out of phone specifics.
It is misleading people ( not intentionaly of course).

Well, since I will pay 20% restocking, I played already with the phones camera quite a bit. What a disaster that is as well:
Most pictures came very blurry, grainy, and look like there was a smoke in my room.

SHAME ON!-Nokia
Such a reputational phone brand, and at the same time such a bad n90 disaster!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

What did you do Carl Zeiss?)

http://www.gsmarena.com/review.php3?idReview=38&idPage=4
( 6681, photos of the same scenes, are more truthful about color and very crisp and sharp comparing to N90).

CONCLUSION:
Now, it is all up to you folks.
Please post more opinion here and if you happened to have a better version of N90, please place the photos taken by it here).

I would not pay ever $900 for a phone that has no Vibration and horrible camera.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
