crutchley15 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This phone was one of my favorite phones that I have owned. At the time it was a trial phone, where they only manufactured a limited amount. I enjoyed the sleek phone design that allowed me to carry it in my pocket comfortably. The overall color of the phone was a tint of purple however, which was a bit odd. The phone had the volume feature on the side of the phone that allowed me to adjust the volume immediately.

There was no speaker phone with this phone which was a bit annoying and the features and applications that came with the phone were very limited.

Overall this was a great phone and carried the features I wanted.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

" I'll make this review short and sweet: This phone was a good phone. Quality of camera, sound, etc. If it had more memory (or at lest a memory card slot, for goodness sake), it would have been untouchable.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

go.ta... submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I loved this phone, from the minute I saw it in the shop. First of all, I was in the shop that day to return a sanyo phone I HATED. I saw this phone, and paid over two hundred for it at the time, about 7 months ago. The phone is great for a female, with the feminine design, lilac tint, and pink buttons.

PROS:
=good camera
=comfortable design/lightweight
=dedicated VOD button gives easy access to vision services
=NEVER dropped a call
=easy to customize (I loved taking short video clips and using those as my wallpaper or screensaver)

CONS:
=no bluetooth (which wasnt a must for me)=keypad a little "slippy," plastic and not rubber makes for slippery texting/dialing
=phone has to be open for speaker phone

I cant think of much more to say about this phone, other than I really miss mine =(

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ingleberg submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

This is my 3rd Samsung phone... I've been happy with the others. But if given the chance I'd return the A880 for something else. As many others have mentioned, the noise cancellation feature ruins an otherwise great phone. Calls sound absolutely terrible. Avoid this one like the plague.

PROS:

-Great size (no antenna)

CONS:

-Noise reduction = choppy calls!
-Pics too often blurry or grainy

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Robor007 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for about 4 months now. I've got 2 major gripes and a couple of minor ones with the phone.

Cons:

1) My first grip is the noise cancellation. I understand this is a 'feature' but it doesn't work well and does more harm than good. If there is some background noise sometimes it's so bad I can't understand the party on the other end because they keep 'clipping' between our conversation and background noise.

2) My other problem is the speakerphone being on while my headset is plugged in. It's a intermittent thing where if I plug my headset in, open my phone, and make a call, sometimes the audio plays through my headset *and* the speakerphone - closed or not. I haven't seen any other reviews where this is a problem so maybe it's just the 2 (different) headsets I have causing this?

3) Minor gripes. Cost - it's expensive. Picture quality - it's nothing stellar despite being 1MP. Signal is less than my Sanyo 8100. Callers report my voice quality is poor sometimes. Headset jack is terrible - difficult to open/close and headset jack pops out easily.

Pros:

1) Size and shape. This phone is small and slick so you can carry it in your pocket and it's barely noticeable. Just be careful it doesn't slip out while sitting.

2) Voice calling. It works pretty well and you don't have to program the voice in to make calls. Not perfect but still easier than dialing or speed dialing.

3) Looks. If you're a macho type who's to insecure to carry a phone with a lavender tint to it maybe that's a problem but it's still a great looking phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kking1003 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I love this phone. My previous phone was the a680 and this one by far surpasses it.

+ I love having the option of speaker phone. Having to keep the phone open really doesn't bother me as I don't need it to be closed.

+ The media on this phone is great everything works so well, and I actually keep the volume down lower because it puts out enough sound.

+ This phone also offers vibrate on every volume of ring. Awesome for when I want sound plus vibrate, but not to blast everyone away.

+ The small size of this phone is really nice. I have a packed purse so this allows me to squeeze other stuff in there. I also sometimes like to carry my phone in my back pocket and having it be smaller makes it not so noticeable.

+ No antenna is so smart. It's nice to not have a useless piece of plastic protruding from my phone.

+ I really like the color of the phone. The lavender tint gives it a nice touch to set my phone apart from others.

I only have two things that I don't really care for on this phone.

- Because of the way the buttons are I just cannot work with them. I am constantly pushing more buttons than I'm meaning to.

- On my last phone all entries had a number that you could also use as a speed dial. This phone doesn't have that so it takes a little while for me to find who I want to call and then call them. You can set speed dial up to 99, but it takes a lot of time to do that for everyone.

Overall I definitely love this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

rmoneal submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I upgraded to this phone for myself and the Sanyo 8300 for my husband. I bought this one solely on the basis of how nice it looks. The phone is so attractive that I wish that it worked as well and had as much functionality as the Sanyo 8300, because I hate to give up the great looks!

Unfortunately, I need my phone to work great and looks are optional so back it goes for the (less expensive, but better functionality) Sanyo 8300.

Pros are: looks; picture quality; included background; small size; large external screen with background and date time selected together; internal antenna; pict bridge (but who really prints their photos from thier phone?).

Cons are: phone heats up too quickly and after only a few minutes of talk is too warm requiring switching ears often; sound is choppy; speaker sounds 'tinny' and other person could not hear me well when on speaker; cannot make calls with phone closed; cannot select speaker to make calls, must make call then select speaker, very inconvenient while driving; cannot answer phone with speaker, must press two buttons (open phone, press option, press speaker on) to answer on speaker; no ready link; poor signal.

Two Sprint employees have told me what a great phone this is, but maybe they haven't used the Sanyo. My old Sanyo 4500 works better than this beautiful phone!

Looks 10 Functionality 3

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

deejal submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

The form factor is nice...it's small...but almost too small. The fact that there is not antenna is what made me buy the phone. It has a nice purple hue to it and since purple is my favorite color, how could I go wrong.

The reception is usually great. Having been a Verizon customer for 10 years, this whole migration to Sprint has not been that good. But, only time will tell.

This phone has noise cancellation and this is the number one reason why I am returning the phone. I hate it. When the other person is not speaking, there is nothing but dead air and I was constantly asking, "are you there?"

I do not recommend this phone.

PROS:

small phone
internal antenna
great screen

CONS:

too small
keypad is akward with the pushback pressure
the noise cancellation feature is great in theory but a pain the rear end.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

rik1690 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

Great little phone. I bought this phone for my sister. After playing around with it, I am amazed on how great the reception is. She had the Sanyo 5500 and I have the Samsung mm-700. We both had sever reception issues. She has not had a dropped call yet and now she gets reception where she had no signal. The phone is a little too small for people with big hands. I was going to buy one for myself but handling it would drive me nuts. I was talking to a Sprint Rep and they said the Samsungs are actually as good if not better reception than the Sanyos.

Pros-
-Great Reception.
-Like the UI
-Web was fast
-good camera
-Has a dedicated button for the Multimedia
-The MM downloaded faster than it does on my mm-700
-load ear piece
-no external antenna to break or bend.

Cons-
-a little too small for people with big hands or fingers
-No dedicated speaker button
-can not use speaker while phone is closed
-the speaker is also the ear piece.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

sweetlady314 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

i just bought this phone this past Friday and I'm loving it so far. My last two phones have been Sanyos and the UI on this Samsung beats Sanyo hands down!!! The phone is small and compact which is a big plus for me, AAC ringers sound great, and I like the 3d menu style. The camera takes beautiful pictures, ten times better than the camera on the 7400. The only complaint I have is the speaker, which you can't use with the phone closed, but I have an earpiece so it's not that big of a deal. I don't regret my decision at all and I'm happy with the Samsung MM-880.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

xsprintmanx submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

***This phone is by far & away the best phone ever made in a very long time...

There is just nothing bad to say about this phone period & it's highly recommended for anyone who seeks a small light weight yet sturdy phone with all the features you could ever wish a phone to have. I have read some reply's about people saying that this phone has a "purple" tint to it >>> Yes it does & it's very classy to say the least & not just for the ladies if you will, as most seem to dislike this phone or atleast at the sprint store's over another brand...Here's the scoop. I entered two sprint stores & to my suprise all the ladies did infact "kinda" like the phone, However much prefered the sanyo 8200/8300 well over this one...You know, The phone's that sound like a bad speaker. The guy's in the store's who did not already have this phone flat stated this phone will be there's period. Plus, The fact is, a purple tint / overtone is very classy ( think about the old cars dude's with a candy apple red paint job & a purple overtone...Awesome baby ) & unlike the LG phones that have a smiley face or other company's phones with pink in them somewhere on the phone, It's no wonder why guy's like this phone too...It's classy & just the perfect phone for anyone who appreciates class over smiley faces & pink button's >>> lol. Also, For the guy's, Having a phone without a antenna is just capital period. It great to read that the ladies like this phone, However, Guy's this phone is a man's phone too if I ever seen one...Class all the way. Also, Phone has a neat preset ringer ( guitar guy ) guess that spells ladies phone huh? lol lol lol :-)

***Highly Recommended Phone...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Video is great too.
3.The internal and external screens are beautiful! It's way better than my moms Sanyo 7300 & 8200 screens.
4.I love the menu layout the 3D style is really cool.
5.This phone is also small and lightweight.
6.The ringers are loud but not so much that clear I mean they are clear but not the clearest.
7.Internet is cool I am able to go to tagtag which I could'nt on my moms Sanyo 8200.
8.Battery life is good and it charges quickly.
9.I love that there is no antenna.
10.The phone and flip hinge feel very sturdy not cheap and plastic like my old Flasher.
11.The menus are very easy to navigate and I really did'nt have much of a problem finding anything when I first got it and played around with it.
CONS-
I have not found any yet I just got this phone yesterday (10-05-2005) I will update if I find any.
This phone is very sleek and cool I love it and highy recommend it I was actually going to go with an LG-535 but I'm glad I got the A880 even the Sprint reps said the A880 is a better phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jcalcatms submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This is a very new (as of October `05) phone from Sprint which I recently purchased; so new that the extended battery and plastic holster aren't yet released GRRRR. It is a wonderful little phone! I did all my research online, since the people in the Radio Shack from which I bought knew next to nothing about it.

All along the way, I was comparing this phone with the Sanyo 8300, and was much more in favor of this one (I will list some comparisons below).

Oh, and as far as the color of the phone, men: if you are secure in your masculinity and have evolved beyond associating colors with genders, then the extremely slight purplish tint of some parts of the exterior of the phone will not be an issue. If you're still hung up on chauvinism and machismo, dunno if you'll survive the Hyacinth Horror.

PROS:

-1.2 megapixel camera with flash - AWESOME pictures and videos (Sanyo 8300 is 0.64 [VGA])
-no external antenna (vs. Sanyo with stub/extendable antenna)
-external and internal displays function independently (vs. Sanyo - one or the other)
-very sleek design (Sanyo is somewhat chubby and boxy)
-large variety of ringers
-large selection of wallpapers with distinction between foreground and background

CONS:

-call quality is somewhat choppy (something to do with the 'noise cancellation technology,' i believe)
-speakerphone is not the most legitimate - the phone uses the ear speaker instead of having a separate, larger speaker (props to the Sanyo 8300 for that)
-speakerphone will only work when the phone is open
-somewhat slippery to hold (and my hands don't even sweat at all)
-along the same lines, a bit difficult to dial 'blind' if you have large hands

Overall, this is a wonderful phone that I'd personally consider Sprint's absolute best mid-priced phone, and definitely the best mid-priced flip phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

frogger1 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for about a month and I love it. I've had a samsung a500 and a460 before that, so I'm a samsung fan. There where a few complaints that I've noticed from other people on this site. The messages LED, speaker phone, battery, and color. People said that the LED doesn't indicate any message. It does indicate messages and events, however this functionality doesn't work under low batt. Speaker phone works well and seems clear. But to operate it, you must push option then speaker phone while talking to some one. Battery is questionable. The battery talk time is about 3 hrs, but the standby time could be improve. I have to charge it every three days, or days when I talk a lot.
Ok, the color everyone complained about. I'm a guy, and I'm ok with it since I got the leather case cover.

Pros:
* Long list of features.
* Compact size and excellent style.
* Great reception for a internal antena phone.
* Voice command. (this is my favorite feature of all. I'm asian, so I have a really hard name. This phone gets all names correct , even the asian ones right on first try.)
* Duriablity (Ok, I was recently in a car accident as the driver. This phone was in my belt. The dashboard crushed into me. The police were able to get my phone off me and was able to

Cons:
* Battery life both talk/standby

In short, this is the best cell phone I'm ever own.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

redraven_y2k submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I have had this phone for about 2.5 weeks now and I love it. Although, this phone was not my first choice(samsung was too pricey)I tried it anyway and I'm glad I did.

Pro: The color is to die for. The trick paint job makes you wonder if it is lilac, white, gun metel or whatever.
This phone is designed with a girl in mind small and stylish.
Camera is nice with the fun screen options.

Con: I don't know what phone some of these people have but mine does not have a speaker phone and the user guide does not mention one.
The game is a demo and not very good (my last phone was a nokia) and the ringtones are crappy sounding (maybe,it is sprint and not the phone itself).
If you have big sweaty hands forget it you will drop this phone quicker then a hot coal.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

PhilR8 submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

+ PROS

> unique and attractive styling. Purplish color may seem odd at first, but very easy to get used to. Keypad uniquely shaped and contoured for surprising ease of use when dialing/texting by "touch".

> screen/camera. Gorgeous 262K screen - clarity and richness of color is incredible. Megapixel camera looks very nice.

> small form factor. Was used to Nextel Brick phones; this contrasts them very niceley and fits easily into jeans pocket.

- CONS

> Unique styling does not allow for comfortable grip - awkward to hold when making calls. Smooth plastic finish becomes slippery after 5 minutes of holding it in hand - was constantly afraid of dropping phone.

> Speakerphone is complete junk. A last minute addition, as evidenced by lack of dedicated speaker button anywhere on phone. Once in call, must navigate menu using softkeys and select speakerphone as option. Phone must be flipped open - earpiece is amplified to be used as speaker. Not loud enough even at full volume.

> Speakerphone would disconnect calls every time and without exception. Once speakerphone was activated mid-call, call would be dropped within thirty seconds. Every time.

> Custom/downloaded ringers are not loud at all. Waste of $2.50 to download ringer you will never be able to hear.

> Noise cancellation "feature". Quick overview: instead of normal background noise permeating throughout entire conversation, a880 will broadcast from earpiece only when party on other end is speaking. When party ceases to speak, earpiece goes silent so you do not hear background noise/dead air. Nice in theory, very poorly executed: beginnings/ends of comments cut off, very static-y transition on/off. Causes earpiece to sound like absolute garbage. If in area of weak signal, "feature" becomes more prominent and frustration level rises significantly.

> verdict: unique and attractively styled cell phone that fails miserably as a TELEPHONE. Samsung a880 will accelerate hair loss. Buy Sanyo 8300 and be happy.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ldardeen submitted this review of the Samsung MM-A880:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

One of my girlfriend got the phone in July and so far it rocks. I my self am a die hard sanyo fan. But i might have to make an exception for the A880. The reception is great and she loves the sleek design. I personally have talked 2.5 hours in a basement on one bar of battery and it didn't die or lose signal. It has a huge memory for downloads. Only complaints are that the speaker phone is a little hard to get to, sanyos are better in that aspect. The other thing i don't like is that the zoom doesn't work on all resolutions and of course that the color is way too girlie. A MP3 Player would be nice but with everything else this phone packs not a neccessity

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
