elizabethannyeager submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this phone. I bought it with cash and no rebates for $500 and it was well worth the money. The ONLY downfall of the phone is that it doesn't have speaker phone, but you will soon forget about this once you realize everything it does have. It is also extremely sturdy. I'm not the most careful person with my cell phones, so I probably dropped it an average of once a week for 1 1/2 years and nothing ever happened except for a couple of dents on the corners. Because of this, I called it the silver bullet. The camera is exceptional and the sound quality on both ends is perfect. I recently had my purse stolen and my phone was stolen with it. They do not have anymore of these phones as a replacement, so unfortunately I will no longer have this phone. But, it's my favorite phone by far and I would suggest it to anyone that is looking for a superior and unique phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

radio_shack_guru submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I'd have to say this: The phone certainly trumps the LG MM-535. Slider phone fans: if you don't need bluetooth or speakerphone, find one and hold on to it.

I started out with the Samsung A-940, and quickly sold it to a friend for far less than what I paid for it. I was sick of horrid battery life, I was scared of the rotating hinge going out on me, and the camera was a bum deal. Bluetooth was nice... but without A2DP, I don't need it.

I bought an LG MM-535 on eBay, and regretted it almost immediately. Screen quality was a big step down, my phone had a firmware issue and couldn't provision itself and access Vision services. At all. After a frustrating visit to the nearest Sprint PCS store (A 150-mile roundtrip) I called LockLine and they replaced it with a refurb'ed A800.

It was worth the $50 deductible.

I work at RadioShack, and tend to play with my phone all day long, with the excuse that it's "a demo for customers". Constant access to Vision, sending SMS msgs, making calls, and demo-ing ringtones is an average day for me, and I typically get 2.5 days per charge, which is double what I got with my A-940 and my MM-535. The UI is beautiful, it's loud enough with classic ringtones to be an alarm clock, and reception is better (for me, at least, in Central VA) than any of the other 9 handsets I've owned for Sprint Nextel.

I've yet to load my TransFlash card with mp3's and mpeg4's, but I DID test a 1 gig card and it works perfectly, even though the phone supposedly only supports 512 MB and under.

All in all, I'd have to say this: I'm willing to give up the wonders of EVDO and the Music Store just to have a phone that works, and works WELL!

Now I just have to keep myself from snatching up an A-720 when they're released...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Damian submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Ok, think about this...it's a phone! I'm sure some of the other reviews are forgetting this fact. If you want to take perfect pictures then you don't want a digital camera anyway. you need a 35mm camera and some skill to take good pictures. the device has only a small part to play. phone/camera combos are what they are so you can capture images on the go, not take your wedding pictures. you may also read some review here about how it's so hard to get into the camera mode. HELLO, there is a camera button right on the side of the phone. you press it and you're there. maybe it's just me?

Are you one of these TV junkies that needs to watch sprint TV, but just like at home....there's never anything good on. Well, get the trans flash card and the cable to hook the card to your computer. they are cheap on e-bay. then upload some mpeg4 movie to the card and play it back whenever you like. The mp3 player works the same way.

True it has some seemingly useless features like the business card scanner. maybe for you it never gets touched and others it used every day. It all depends on the need. The point is, it does work.

The only things I have marked this phone off for is
1. no speaker phone &
2. no bluetooth

some say it doesn't matter but it should have one or the other. It did effect me when thinking about the purchase and even now. where I live, if you are on the phone while driving you are pulled over, annoye people behind you, or you miss what might be an important call. after all isn't that why you bought a cell phone. it's much nicer the put on speakerphone or a wireless bluetooth earpiece and not have to worry about it. However you can always plug into the phone w/ the standard headphone.

If you're still worried about spending the money on this phone, do the following. price a cheap 2 mega pixel camera, a cheap mp3 player, and an average phone of ok specs. See...about the same price but this is all-in-one. Hope this helps.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mrwigggles submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

When you offer the first 2 Megapixel phone in the US market, you better make sure that is the phones strong point. With the A800, it isn't

Other reviewers have mentioned how slow it is to opperate, (I completely agree), but I will stay focused on simply image quality.

Let me first say that I am a bit of digital photography buff. I own 2 digital cameras myself and have access to many more. I know what the image from a good digital camera should look like. Let me also say that I wasn't expecting a highly feature-rich flawless megazoom cameraphone either.

However, ALL cameraphones should take good pictures under optimum conditions. When you are shooting outside with plenty of light at things that are far away, the focus should be sharp and the noise in the image should be low. Neither is the case with the Samsung. The Samsung doesn't take good shots in any lighting or focal distance situations.

The shots are WAY too oversaturated in terms of color, out of focus, noisy and lack shadow detail. Here is an example (I hope the link will work)

http://mrwigggles.250free.com/SSPX0052enhancedsmall.JPG

Please note this picture came after I did some sharpening algorithms to improve things. I left it oversaturated to illustrate how overblown things look. This is also MY BEST PICTURE out of about 200 I took. There are too many errors to note. The general focus is off. The center is OK but everywhere else stinks. The shadow detail is absent. (It is impossible to make out anything below the car for instance). There is noise everywhere. Look at the side of the house and how splotchy the colors are.

If you look at some sample pics of older 2 Megapixel cameras at www.dpreview.com you can see what a true digital camera can do. A 2 megapixel camera should be able to create a flawless 1024X768 after resizing.

Anyway, I returned the A800 within my 14 day trial. Samsung tech support couldn't help resolve my issues.

For $$$$ the A800 should be better.

-MW

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

First I tell you that it has no speaker phone and no Bluetooth but still the design is flawless. It comes with a 32mb Transflash card. If you have a card reader and Photo Shop you can make your own wallpapers.

Pros:
You can change all menus
2.0mp camera is the best on a phone yet
Save pictures on transflash card
Mp3 player
Sync with pc+mac
Good camcorder
Design

Cons:
D-pad is small
No bluetooth
No speaker phone
No mp3 ringtones
No ready link

You should make your own choice
Good luck

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

topazguh112 submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is my first phone review and I'm posting because it's one of the best I've ever had. I've been with SPrint for the past 3 years and have always carried their newest phones, but nothing is quite like the Samsung A800. I've never been satisfied with any SPrint phone until now. If it's sleek design doesn't win you over at first, then the camera and picture quality should. The camera doesn't take that long to load...it loads within mini-seconds, and the pictures are incredible.

It doesn't have a speaker phone, but the sound quality of the speaker, itself, makes up for it. The mp3 ringers are A++++ quality and so is the video camcorder. The Samsung A800 is also loaded with stock features...not to mention how the text messaging is easy as user friendly as ever.

As for the battery life, it holds up. I used it on a 3 hour road trip, and the battery still held up. At the end of 3 hours, my phone's battery still had half of its life left!

If you're one of those individuals that must always be up to date with their technology....then this is a MUST BUY.

Not only are you getting a great cell phone, but you're also receiving a digicam, camcorder, and computer all rolled up into one. And for the price...I wouldn't have it any other way.

Definitely the best I've seen!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

zeno submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

A 1.5?!?!? Give me a break!!

First surprise on this phone is the reception. I expected to loose reception, but it actually increased over my 8100.

The menus are stunning. Having that many visual options is certainly a welcomed surprise.

Other pros are obvious. The camera is absolutely the best I have ever seen on a phone. The pictures are spectacular. The pause between the button push and capture is very small, though the sound is delayed considerably. I have no problems getting to the camera at all.

The screen is amazing. crisp, clear, and great color.

The mp3 player is great! great quality sound. The media player in general is impressive.

Video is surprisingly good. Watching media is extremely good.

business card scan actually works!

The only con I could list is dictation. It takes a lot of training to get it working properly (or at least it has for me). Not having t9 may also affect some people, but I was never a fan of t9.

This phone functions like a top end phone. great reception and sound. It does everything is says it can do, and does it all EXTREMELY well. Great slide, and it can be adjusted easily. The quality of pictures and the removable media make this a usable camera as well as a phone. The first phone I've seen that can actually be used as a normal camera with good results.

Anyone giving this phone a rating under 3 is either stupid, bias, or had a lemon. As much as features like t9 and speaker phone mean to people no one can claim this is not a good phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

stephenl65 submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I want to start out by giving my history of phones with sprint. My first phone was a true brick not sure what the model number was but it was a samsung. since I have had sammy n200, n400, 8500, a600, a680, a700. sanyo 5150, 4500, 5300, 7400, 5600, lg 325, 535. Now the Samsung a800! I have to say I am truly impressed with this phone and not impressed with most of the reviews shown to this point. Obviously some do not know much about phones and features. This phone is actually getting a top rating from me the first ever I have given not even the sanyo 5600 got a perfect 5.

Let's start out talking about the (phone features) first!

1. Ear piece Great sound was a little worried after the a700, but this one is a winner!
2. Ringers loud and clear great sound without an exterior speaker.
3. Ezitap the new way to send text messages works pretty darn good once you get use to it.
4. STT works pretty darn good too, it's nice to just be able to talk your text once in awile.
5. Voice dial also works great
6. The menu very colorful easy to use and you can customize just about everything!

That is most of the (phone) features, now lets get to the rest of the phone.

1. The camera CCD sensor auto focus lens 2.0 mega pixels WOW this is what we have been waiting for! Pics look great and there is a real flash. Low light pics look good too.
2. Vision is super fast and very nice not sure if it's as fast as the sanyo 5600 but hey who cares.
3. I really like the way the phone feels in my hand not cheap feeling at all very sturdy and well built.
4. The QVGA screen is quite awesome looks great colors look awesome.
5. MP3's sound great also through the speaker or headphones whichever you want to use. I like how you can push a button to go from once song to the next. Awesome feature!
6. Biz card scanner I thought would be a waste but I was again wrong, works almost perfectly.
Again I have used many phones and pretty much know a good one when I see it! This is a damn good phone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

horseofcourse submitted this review of the Samsung SPH-A800 / MM-A800:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I had high hopes for this phone based on some of the feedback I saw posted on other web sites, so I ran out to Best Buy and plunked down 5-large for this thing. I'm sorely dissapointed. Plenty of eye catching bells and whistles, but there are 2 show-stoppers for me with this phone:

1. Camera - as another reviewer pointed out, the software that runs the camera is hosed. It takes entirely too long to get the camera up and running and for it to take a single shot. Samsung went to great lengths to make this phone look and function like a higher end camera than a phone, but they simply blew it here.

2. No data sync - In a nutshell, you can't sync your desktop data with the supplied cable. I figured this would be a no brainer since Samsung has a free PClink application, but it doesn't work for this phone. Apparantly, the only function of the cable is to move pictures on/off the phone...in my opinion, another blunder by Samsung/Sprint.

If Sprint issues a fix to these problems before my 30-day Best Buy return clock runs out, I'll keep it; otherwise, it goes back.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I haven'ty decided if I can afford 500 bucks so I still might take it back.
