icebrain submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Pro:
Nice exterior design

Nicely customizable home screen, good display

Hitting "send" from home screen pulls up not only recent outgoing, but also missed and incoming

Decent battery life

Comes with corded headset

Ability to select 24-hour time format

Displays number of missed calls on outside

Con:
Camera button on the side can't be disabled. I get lots of pictures of the inside of my pocket. Picture quality is poor, and colors are off.

Alarm and ringer should use common sources--default alarm sounds are just dumb

Outside volume switch changes key tone (wtf?), not ringer volume. Only way to set ringer volume is to go through several menu levels.

Calendar is confusing... trying to make an entry is many steps long, and involves setting choices of to-do list, scheduler, or others. It should all be one function.

Alarms are a pain. You have to re-enter the time every time you set it (instead of simply arming the alarm), and hitting snooze makes you have to wait until it goes off again to silence it, instead of being able to disarm it

Default ring tones are too girly--would prefer a couple different "regular phone" sounds.

Contacts list lacks ability to search by number; groups pictures can't be customized

Only eight speed dial locations--and unlike other phones, initially entering the speed dial reference won't display the stored number before hitting send.

Reception is horrible almost everywhere I've been (though this might be T-mobile's fault)

Calculator is good and bad... like the ability to enter complex expressions, but having to hit pound repeatedly to select an operator is a pain (suggest volume buttons?)

No silent mode--vibrate or ring only. Again, painful to change ring volume

Call records list is limited

Too easy to access "t-zones" accidentally

Can't select a "default number" for any contact entry

Stupid-looking icons and animations (in menus and for missed calls/incoming call/alarm)

In all, I'm never buying a Samsung again!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I would recommend this phone if you aren't a cell phone addict. If you just use your cell phone for what its for, talking and messaging, its a good phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tinojs submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I think this phone is fantastic, especially for free. If I had paid for it I may have expected to have a few more cool features but overall this phone is extremely useful and user friendly. I have never had a phone so easy to navigate. Before this I spent $395 on a motorola phone that was all trendy and "fun" and I barely used any of the features. The Samsun e335 is practical and everything is useful. The sound quality is great and I have yet to have a dropped call or lose service anywhere. My old one, with the same service provider, used to drop out at my house all the time and in the labs at my school. The pictures it takes are not great quality--but are they ever on a phone? I have yet to see one...all-in-all if you are looking for a useful phone that isn't all about the silly stuff that teenagers like to show off with, this would be a fine choice for you. Also, it's very small and easy to carry around, which is also something I really enjoy about it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Forgot to mention it's memory is 8MB and has a large phone book capacity……………:-)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

firefoxx66 submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I got this phone after my Samsung e315 (which I loved dearly) accidentally got washed. I was hoping this phone would live up to all that I had come to expect of Samsung, but it has fallen short several times.

My biggest issue is the button on the side of the phone that allows you to take pictures with the phone closed. Yes, this is a great idea to some people, but it should be able to be disabled. Since I keep my phone in my pocket, every time I bend down, I take a blank picture of my pocket. And even in vibrate mode, the camera makes a 'snap' noise to tell it's taking a picture.

My other pet peeve with this phone is the alarm. When the wake-up alarm goes off, one soft-key says 'confirm' (which turns the alarm off) and one says 'snooze' (which allows you 5 minutes more to sleep before it goes off again). However, I'm not so coherent when I first wake up, and I often miss, and hit another key. This sets the phone into snooze mode, but it stops showing the bell at the top, so you think the alarm is off. After that first time, when you realise the phone is in snooze when you've pressed the wrong button, you go into the alarm options to turn it off, pressing 'disable alarm'. This however, doesn't work. Again, the bell sign disappears, but the alarm will go off in 5 minutes. The only way to turn it off is to press 'confirm' when the alarm goes off again. (Note this is only a fault after the alarm has gone off once..you can disable an alarm that has not yet gone off through the menus.)

Lastly, when writing texts in t9, once you arrow away from a word, the letters are no longer 'connected'. So if you dont press * enough to get to the right letter combination after typing something in (say 'lips' instead of 'kiss') you have to erase it all, instead of just arrowing back to the word and hitting * when it's underlined.

Overall, the phone works ok, but there are so many little things like this that make me feel this phone was never really tested in the real world.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is a cute little phone but looks do not make it work. There might be somewhere on the phone to change the icons o to list but I never seen it. I prefer the list over Icons. Could barely get a one on the signal meter and when it did jump up to 3-4 bars then it would go into searching for service. That part doesn't make sense to me because I am almost directly in the middle of local area where I live. As for the camera.....lol that's a joke. I just gave up my LG 6100 with US Cellular to get this. The LG is a perfect 10 compared to this. I am sending this one back and going to try the Nokia 6101. Hope I have better luck with that one....

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It makes me mad that i cant see pictures on my outside display. then when it comes to choosing different ring-tones for each person you cant you have to choose ring-tones for groups of people at a time. the camera isn't too clear it should have flash. It doesnt have video and I was told it did. tmobile issue you cant send pictures messages to cricket wireless customers and at times verizon customers (people without Sim cards)
I'm glad tmobile only has one year contracts shittttttttt! just want to let people the realll issues
PROS: its a cute blue--my favorite color its sleek has a colorful display I dont know about reception and service I have issues which could also be tmobiles fault almost every month I call to get bonus minutes b/c of the service/reception thats a shame huh?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is a real step above my older phone, the Qualcomm QCP-1960, which is over 8 years old. I don't know why people are complaining about the sound quality, everything is crystal clear. I did have a phone with a dead pixel, but I returned that.

pros:
Camera
IM capability
cool blue color
nice battery life
it's so small!
bright color screen
durable
great sound quality

cons:
the ringtones that come with the phone are pretty lame, and add'l ringtones will run $1.50, which is more than a napster download!

no flash
monochrome display
camera is a fingerprint magnet!
you have to confirm you want it in speaker.

Basically a nice phone....

minotauri submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

My first Samsung phone was the SGH-S105 and then later I had the E715 (2 months) and E315 (for about a month). In all cases it didn't seem like Samsung improved much. Sure the color displays got more colorful and brighter, and they added a camera and spoofed up the user interface with animations and whatnot, but the basic fact that the phone does not perform as other phones do in the same price range is telling that Samsung needs to show improvement.

The quality of the signal strength seemed to degrade with the models mentioned, and are in fact well lower than similar price ranged models from Nokia, Motorola, and Sony Ericsson. Secondly, the E335's voice quality is one of the worst I have ever had the chance to listen and speak into. Both incoming and outgoing voice quality is lackluster, from what my friends say who hear me and from what I hear from them. I used a Nokia 6230 prior to the E335 and my friends could easily tell the drop off in voice quality.

This also leaves the Speakerphone in a bit of a bind, since the quality of the speaker isnt very good. Still, it works, but doesnt quite work as well as say the speakerphone on the Nokia 6230 or the Motorla V600. I currently own a SE K700i but have not used the speakerphone significantly to warrant any comment.

The buttons are a tad too close to each other but that's mostly due to the small compact size of the phone.

What I do like about it is the stylish looks, the navy blue, and the mostly ease of use of the phone. The screen resolution is actually worse than the lower priced Samsung E315, and also the E335 only features a monochrome external display -- which is also a step back from the E315.

The camera quality is comparable to any other Samsung phone of the same price range, and actually does not seem to improve alot from earlier models either. The E715 actually has been the best Samsung GSM camera phone under 1mp that I've used, probably since it has flash capability.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mike78nycc submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I saw few reviewers have complained about the sound quality and about the type of ringers. WELL, I'm not surpriced anymore.
There is something wrong specifically with Samsung GSM flip phones. All Samsung flip phones (at least the ones for american market) have bad sound quality.
This include: E105, e315, x475, x495 and others.

Sound quality is the main reason why not a cingle Samsung phone ever got 4.0 review neither on this forum nor on any other forum.

BUT I ALSO have one other, very important question about e335 and the new e635:
IF BOTH OF THESE models are made specifically for T-Mobile USA, then why the heck it is 850/1800/1900 instead
of 900/1800/1900???? T-Mobile only uses 1900 frequency in the United States! Also at least put european 900 instead of european 1800 ( 900 is by far more used in europe than 1800!).

I demand the answer from Samsung USA!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bizkitsngravy submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I have had this phone for about a week now, I traded in my sidekickII for something different. (I know, not quite the same) but I liked how this phone caught my eye. Small, light weight, feels pretty durable, very user friendly, and for me get's great reception--sounds crystal clear. I've been in the same place with my r225, sidekick,v205, or ipaq where they are struggling with a signal (in my house) and this phone is just fine :) You DO NOT have to open the phone to get the back light on the front lcd to come on, like some people have said. On the left hand side, you press the "up" (volume) key for 2-3 seconds and it will light right up.

Pro's:
-Small, lightweight yet durable
-very user friendly
-Great reception
-camera has some neat effects like grayscale, negative, sketch, and some other features I've not seen in a "camera phone" before
-The service light unlike other samsungs is not as blinding as a strobe light in the dark and can be turned off
-decent battery life

con's:
-camera quality is OK, but hey it's a camera *phone* I didn't get it for the camera
-Speaker phone is not as loud as some, and people on the other end complain I sound muffled while talking on speaker phone, normal phone is fine
-while I did state it gets good reception, and it does, there have been a couple times and it seems to be random that I'll have full signal then it will go to "no service" for a second and then come right back to full signal...my other phones did not do that. I haven't had any problems (yet) with that though.
-850/1800/1900 mhz means no int'l roaming (well some, but very limited)
-no bluetooth, but again I don't care about BT or I wouldn't have bought it

Overall I'd say this is a stylish, yet modest phone with not all the bells and whistles, but enough to keep you satisfied.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jessimparfait submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This is the perfect phone for those who aren't looking for a minature computer. The samsung e335 is not super fancy, but it is classy without being expensive. Though I like the phone overall, there are some things I really appreciate:

-Easy to understand and navigate
-Nice blue color, but not tacky
-Can support good ringtones
-Handy sidebuttons for volume control, front screen light, and camera
-Great speakerphone
-Easy 'vibrate' button
-Splendid volume projection
-Good battery life
-Small enough to fit in a pocket, big enough to hit the right keys
-Durable enough to get dropped and not break

I have yet to find a problem that I couldn't solve with a simple check of the handbook or call to t-mobile. This is a simple, sweet, little phone that would make a fine addition to anyone's purse or pocket.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I love the bright color lit up on the keys. It is easy to navigate. User friendly. The phone is very small and fits in the palm of your hand. I wish the display on the front stayed on a bit longer, because to see the time, you have to open it up to get the light to come on The phone is plastic, I feel the price is a bit high, and if you are looing for a phone with a camera. Its as good as any other in that price range. Its kind of boring to play with. It doesnt take long to figure it out. I wish the screen were a bit larger, but all in all its a good little phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

lildude3077 submitted this review of the Samsung SGH-E335:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

My parents and I got the Samsung e335 a couple days ago for free. Here's my opinion-

The Good:
The Size- It's pretty small. It slips right into my pocket and is barely noticable.
The Color- It's a nice break from all of the silver phones I see.
The Camera- It's definitely not stellar, but It is good for taking a quick picture of something I need to remember for later.
The External Screen- It definitely beats out having to flip it to see who's calling. I wish it was color, but contrary to popular belief, you can still frame self-portraits with it. Just close the flip and hold the camera button. The preview will just be in black and white- more than you need to snap a picture.
The Internal Screen- It's Bright and looks great.
The Reception- Coming from Sprint, This is a huge improvement over what I'm used to.
The Extras- It's not that much, but they package in a Headset and a European Plug adapter.
The Interface- It's bright, colorful, and allows for a whole bunch of customization. Also, you can easily go in and out of silent by holding the pound key (#)

The Okay:
The Casing- Part of the front is glossy. It picks up fingerprints really easily.
The Call Quality- It's not terrible, but It's not great.
The Interface- There are links to T-Zones all throughout the menus. One accidental push could drive up charges.

The Bad:
The Side Keys- You can't change ringtone volume from the side keys. Oddly enough, It changes the Key volume. What?
The Silent Mode- There is none. It's just ring, or vibrate.

Overall, I love this phone. It's great for the price, and T-Mobile is such an improvement over Sprint in our area. However, there are some minor oddities, like the side keys and such that bring this phone down to a 4.5.

That's All, I guess.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
