The Soho gets better reception than any phone we have ever used. I would have to take the phone back to the store i purchased it at to have it rebooted and fixed. It randomly turns off and on with no reason. It also will turn off in the middle of calls, which is very inconvenient. Another big con of this phone is that is is way too fragile, apparently made off super cheap plastic, because it cracks and breaks without being dropped. Also, people will call me while my phone was on, but my phone would make no mention of the call. I would not reccomend buying this phone to anyone. South Bay). The phone is billed as a basic phone in Verizon's line-up and it met my needs up to a point.<br /><br />Pro's:<br />-External LCD display to view call info<br />-Small flip phone form factor<br />-Decent battery life when within tower range<br />-Good size keys<br />-Easily adjustable themes and contrast<br /><br />Con's:<br />- Obnoxious ring tones (you must buy decent ones from Verizon)<br />- Poor battery life when on edge of coverage<br />- Poor construction quality<br />- Reboots frequently after being used 3 months<br />- As phone aged, reception of signal dropped off. It has been awful trying to place and receive calls over the past few months. Same network, same location, same phone. The capabilities of this phone drop to almost NIL unless you are right "under" a tower.<br />- Exterior of phone picks up scratches easily (soft plastic)<br />- Frequently calls were dropped (not network related, my v60s would have no troubles in the same areas)<br /><br />See my other reviews (dating back to 2003) to get more ideas about where I use this phone. I've been a subscriber to almost all the providers in this area (at one point in time) and was really surprised at how poorly this phone performed. The most frustrating part was the frequent reboots and unexpected "shutdown" the phone would experience. Right in the middle of a call or when preparing a text message. All of a sudden you are without communication. His Alltel contract was up and his grandma got him his new phone as a 40th birhtday surprise! (he knew she was buying him a phone just not this one!!!) So she bought it (it was free wonder why!?!?!) So he opened the box when his granny wasnt there and we all laughed and sh!t our pants over this phone! IT looks like a 12 yr old phone! We laugh at him all the time because he is on his 7th one in 6 months! He prays that it will break again and he will get a different replacement phone! NO ringtones are good! Txting is horrid and the look and feel of the phone is horrid!!!! It usually guesses the right word.<br /><br />CONS:<br />~ROAMS ALL THE TIME. EVEN IN LA.<br />Granted that might be my service, but it was freaking LA.<br />~Though I generally liked the eZi mode, it would always forget the words I had inputted myself. It had short memory.<br />~I've had to get this phone replaced three times because when I turn it on, the txting says "Updating messages. Please check again later."<br />~I WANT MY TXT MESSAGES NOW. Not in three hours, or in most cases, NEVER.<br />~The phone, being made out of plastic, creaks all the time and sounds rancid. Many of my friends say "What the heck is that noise?"<br />~Downlaod quality SUCKS. My ringtones are of poor quality.<br />Even on the lowest ring tone volume, I can still hear the phone ring when I'm in the living room and its in my bedroom. If I want it to be loud I would put it on the highest volume, not the lowest.<br />~The menu colors matched nothing. Now, you can pretty much get them for cheap or even free at a retail store. I would never spend money on this phone. It has been a headache from the start, and I just recently ditched it. <br /><br />PROS: good reception (Alltel in Mobile, AL), small size, menus are set up logically<br /><br />CONS: speaker phone went out after only two months, no battery life after about four months, freezes up for no apparent reason, after five months caller id started screwing up(wrong id would show up for the caller), awkward vertical cover screen, scratches way too easily, antenna fell off twice in one year(I was not overly abusive to this phone), phone actually refused to charge on its own after eight months(had to charge battery out of phone on a battery charger), ringtones were pretty bad, I could go on for days...<br /><br />It would probably be a good first phone for a kid since they will probably want a new one in a year; however, I have a pretty good track record with keeping phone until they just give out from old age. This is the cheapest phone I've ever bought but is comparable in quality to my Sanyo 5300, haven't had a phone yet work near as good. I'm happy with the free customization and features so I'll be sticking with it for a long time. MP3 tones takes some tweaking to get working right but the result is well worth the work. Phone says "Online" in the Doom 3 computer voice when opened and "Offline" when closed. and that just turns heads at work... The KX1 I had was through Verizon. Seemed ok at the onset, but once you download Get It now applications, that seems to be was causes problems<br /><br />Pro: Sleek look<br /> Very Loud Speakerphone<br />Cons: Crashes alot, especially during Get It Now games, and alot of crashes for no reason<br />Small keys(as stated in the other reviews)<br />Scheduler would not remind you of appointments, even when set correctly, a clear glitch in the phone<br /><br /> This phone started crashing about 4 weeks after I got it, and got really bad the last few days. It finally locked up totally. When I powered it back on from a crash it was totally frozen. Couldn't even retrieve my phone book info. Told Verizon to keep it and ended up getting an LG. I have always been skeptical of the Kyocera brand but have been surprised with it for being a "bottom-end" model.
