drmrboyalex submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I got this phone over the summer after having wanted it since september. After I had read so many negative and iffy reveiws...i decided to do the smart thing....get it used off ebay. I am now very happy with it. The guy before me had no problems so i wasnt too concerned. It all works great. The only problem i have is i cant connect to my Wi-Fi at home, but i can elsewhere. Otherwise the only other problem i had was my own stupidity (set it on an angled surface and it cracked the screen....got it fixed tho). So if you get this phone i suggest get it used. i saved $150 and knew i got a working model.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

freddymart submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

The HP315 Functionality is how I judge a phone of this type, does it work like it is supposed to if you are willing to learn its operation, and if you have a level of computer and electronics understanding and skills to work it. This phone is not your average phone, just turn it on and operate it. It is a miniature computer workstation, and has the problems of memory a desktop computer would have if short. Once you control settings to store files on the SD card (large size 1 G) then the phone is efficient and fun. I use it for: contact management through outlook, bluetooth desktop sync, usb desktop sync, calendar date setting, email through gprs, read and send Yahoo mail off the screen, notes, sound notes, and everyday phone use, used bluetooth headset until the headset's battery burned out. It plays MSWMA files right off the internet through the gprs. I have never exchanged it, I have owned it for just over a year, since Oct. 2004.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

heechy submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

hello there,
I've had this phone for almost a year. I would have to advise you NOT to purchase this PDA phone. There is just too much inherent problems that simply won't be resolved by a new patch or anything software. I believe the major problem for this is the slow CPU (100 MHZ) that this devise has. The reason why HP put this CPU in the phone is to conserve battery life, i think. But the type of problems that I'm getting on a everyday basis is not worth it. To describe to you some of the problems that I'm having everyday is 1) it crashes at least once a day. I shouldn't have to soft reboot everyday for a PDA. I don't know any PDA's the crashes almost everyday. 2) I have hard time receiving in-coming calls because it won't respond to my answer button. 3) T-Mobile has taking this phone out the shelves. Meaning they felt that this phone has too much problems to sell it anymore. 4) T-mobile's willingness to resolve this issue to the customers. 5) One time, it automatically hard reset the whole phone and I lost my data and phone numbers. It just did it all by itself. That was freeky... 6) The tech support don't have any solution other than replacing it with refurbished phone.

In conclusion, I am very dissatisfied with this phone and I urge you NOT to get this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The phone was defective the touch screen stop working and i get jacked for 700 US dollars. Plus a week after i get the HP ipaq they recalled the product. I told them i no longer wanted it and wanted to get a new phone and i just got the nokia 6620- alot better then ipaq and as a bussiness man i had to search for another pocket pc/pda/organizer/handheld.To sum it up HP is great at making digital cameras and printer and computer but they really need to work on making a pocket pc/ pda cell phone. I was not at all happy with their product.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Every one has been a failure as a phone and PDA and HP has adamantly refused any useful support. Every other manufacturer will happily replace faulty equipment but HP is laughing at the silly customers that pay 600 plus for equipment that does not work. I owned the first ipaq and it is trully sad to see HP diss thier loyal customers. They are acutely aware of the failure of their phones including the massive 6315 failure and will keep putting out new models with the same problems.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

BernardOfCA submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I bough the phone in 11/2004 after reading rather negative reviews. It was the only phone that had the features I wanted.

What has been said here is true: HP & Tmobile brought to market an untested product. They also made the mistake of trying to seamlessly switch between WiFi and GPRS but that cannot be achieved with todays' technology. Some bugs were so obvious that this is really a shame for both companies. Still the product is doing what it promised it would do. The ROM update fixed most of the problems but not all. I still reset the product once in a while and this is a shame (like in the good days of Windows 95).

I have read many reports about the (bad) H/W quality of the product ("I returned 12 handsets") and I have a hard time understanding (if not believing) that. If people are complaining about software bugs (that do exist), a new H/W won't solve the problems.

Here is my review:

Phone: yes, not as good as a phone only but this is not a phone only. Volumes low in general. Overall not as bad as described elsewhere.

WiFi: quite good. I had a problem with 128-bit keys (slooooooooow to engage) but this seems to be solved in the new ROM

Bluetooth: not tested yet

PDA: Excellent. Synchronization with desktop/laptop is flawless. One problem is the "automatic" memory management. There is no easy way to shut down a program and everything automated has flaws.

Internet connectivity: very good except for the "Work" and "Internet" connection methods. In the work mode, they establish a VPN connection (which is working OK) but I could also be at work on a secured WiFi network. The POP account that is set as a "Work" account attempts to "dial" the VPN. This operation fails since I am already inside the network.

Having Internet on the road is evaluable...

Skype: in my limited test, it is workable on WiFi only (not GPRS) but the processor might be running out of BW

Games: Can't they find anything better ?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It has been nothing but problems I am on my 12th replacement phone I paid alot of money for this device, and is one of the only reasons I still use it.I like it cause no one makes a better pocket PC than hp but hp and t-mobile made a big mistake coming out with this device without testing it. After the firm update I still have to reset it a couple of times a day. I also think it is still better than the treo 650

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

invisiblewave submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

My final effort with regard to the iPaq 6315 is to try to prevent others from making the same mistake I did and buying one. I'm on my second (replacement) unit, with a third on the way which I know isn't going to solve the bugs. I bought 6 weeks ago and had problems from day one. However, since T-Mobile replace the unit, it's now too late to get a refund (you have to ask within 14 days). Both units I've had so far have had the updated software, the first I upgraded myself, the second came preinstalled with the latest release.

The bugs are too many to list individually, the highlights are as follows: The phone regularly locks up, either when you try to answer, or when the call ends. This is usally solved with a soft reset. The bluetooth connection is flakey, I have it paired with a Logitech headset. Dialogue boxes don't always close (soft reset required). Phone signal reception is substantially weaker than my Nokia 6100. The latest bug, and for me the final straw, was the unit continually trying to make a GPRS connection even when there were no applications running. This required a hard reset to solve.

I can't get my money back from T-Mobile, yet they have no solution to the problems. HP don't want to know, they refer me back to T-Mobile. I've now decided to cut my losses, go back to my Nokia, and as soon as my 12 month contract expires (I signed a new one to get the discount), I'll be running away from T-Mobile as fast as I can (I've been with them for about 3 years).

Don't buy this piece of junk!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Always flash them right after you install ativesync so you will not reinstall backup copies of files, that for some reason plays havoc. at least a Tmobile rep told me this, after doing this my second Ipaq has worked fine, the Operating system will still need a soft reset once in a while but like all handhelds most do at one time or the other, Phone quality is much improved after the Upgrade, Speakerphone is still not very good but it can be usable.

Camera is bad but as with so many camera phones none are great. PLEASE read all the manuals that come with this phone as there are MANY many settings that can control anything and CAN make the sound of the phone better or worse so I would suggest playing around with it after reading the manuals.

PROS

Great PDA and programs.

Phone sound quality much improved after update. No echo if volume is kept at a normal level.

Signal strength Great in Salt Lake City.
Internet Explorer works great.
Software works very well.
Many extras, a true world phone.

Cons
Speakerphone could be better.
Camera is not good.
Can experience a soft reset once in a great while but no data lost and it reboots very fast.

All in all if your looking to purchase this phone find a Tmobile rep and ask questions, this phone is not for those who do not like gadgets and needs experimentation to get it set the way you like it.Not for the inexperienced user.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MagellanGuy submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

Soon after receiving the h6315 on 8/26/2004, T-Mobile support told me to perform a ROM update.

The ROM update did not improve the erratic Bluetooth implementation (Motorola and Jabra headsets were equally difficult to connect and keep connected and the connection to my IBM ThinkPad was more off than on). The ROM upgrade also did not fix the several-times-a-day need to perform a soft reset because the PDA and phone locked-up.

The PDA performed a hard reset (all by itself) twice during the past 8 months for no apparent reason. As you probably know a hard reset obliterates all your data and programs and requires that you restore your most recent back-up.

The cell phone reception is not nearly as good as a throw-away Nokia Voice Stream unit connected to T-Mobile using the same SIM as the h6315. Also, the h6315 randomly drops calls that extend beyond 20 minutes.

On 3/30/05 T-Mobile sent an e-mail containing a link to a site containing a new ROM update said to improve overall stability, Bluetooth® performance, voice quality, e-mail performance, and other general improvements.

The ROM update locked-up my h6315. T-Mobile support didn't seem too surprised and said they would "express" me a replacement unit for $15 and, oh by the way, DHL Express could take up to three business days.

One support rep informed me that the "replacement" unit would probably not be a "new" h6315, but would be a "refurbished" model.

After three business days, the refurbished replacement PDA had not arrived and after speaking with 3 T-Mobile support personnel, I learned that the h6315 was on back-order and I could expect a replacement in an additional 21 days or so.

I have now been without my $499 h6315 for 11 days and expect to be without it for at least another 16 days. I asked T-Mobile to release me from my Service Agreement and to issue a refund for the purchase price of the h6315, but they refused.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

After awhile of using it, I wonder how I got by without it. Probably one of the most well spent cash I've dished out.

Pro's:
The perfect palm phone with everything you could need in a palm including but not limited to: Internet, Instant messaging, Office, outlook, bluetooth, wi-fi, hotspot.

It's OS was not hard to get the hang of.

Cons:
I may be a little biased because of my happiness of my purchase, but I guess a couple con's would be size of unit, which is somewhat expected, and the price. You get what you pay for however.

Anyways, the problems that has plagued previous users, I feel doesn't exist anymore because I do not experience them. I'm guess the firmware upgrade has addressed these.

If your looking for a do-it all palm, and you want the best, this is your device.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

HIskies2 submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

Ok, normally I do my research first, then make a decision. I've always disliked carrying both a phone and a pda. So, I got anxious and decided first. This unit is a lesson that I should ALWAYS do the research first.
Just about all the bad press I've read about this unit I find to be TRUE. Now granted, if you turn the unit off, I would guess that that means you do not want to be bothered and it should not wake up on calls. So this I find not to be a problem.
However, as for everything else?! The phone: From the first call to now, just about everyone I call states my voice is distant, somewhat hard to understand. I find that if I use the mic, speakerphone style (speak directly into it), that is about the only time my voice is "somewhat" clear. As for the speaker, it seems that I must be a bit more careful with regards to ear placement. Could be I just need to get used to holding a PDA to my ear. But as for a wireless headset, I'm afraid to invest in one. I've never like even wired headsets where the mic is far from your mouth. I've always preferred the boom type. So, will it help?
The PDA: Yes, it is a bit slow, but bearable. Its just that for the cost of this unit, I would have expected better. The screen I find to be "pretty." But here too, I know HP could have done better-they have with other models. And finally, yes I have found it necessary to do frequent soft-resets, as when receiving SMS. But a hard reset seems to have helped although I've read that it works for a few days, and then...As for WiFi, works great. Haven't tried the rest.
Bottom line: Unless HP/T-mobile comes up with a patch to improve phone quality and perhaps PDA performance, I'm going to sell this unit and go back to carrying two units-separate phone and pda. And I "hate" carrying two.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I stayed with T-Mobile for 7:41 hours and was not able to order it. I found t-Mobile employees to be miss informed of the how you can buy or activate the 6315. I got over 11 opinion from them and every employee told me the other one was wrong. I end up with nothing after all of the stress and time wasted to get one. After I read all of the reviews I am thankful to you all for your responses. I am no longer going to buy one. Now is the scoop how can I find one just like it made by another company that works? What a good company I can buy prepaid (on the go card) to use when I want? I need my unit for use of phone for over seas trips and it must be quad. I appreciate your response.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am very disappointed with my HP 6315's reception. It is horrible with T-Mobile, not sure if it is T-Mobile or PDA's fault, but I have a friend that he is using his HP with AT&T and he has no phone problems. I am trying to find out how to unlock this PDA so I can use a different carrier (anyone?).

Other than the cell feature, I really like it. Yes, I keep re-booting my PDA constantly, once a day, but I can leave with that.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

13x submitted this review of the HP h6315 / h6310 / h6320 / h6325:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

As a PDA it's ok. A little slow, but it does most of the things a $250 PDA should do. I've only been able to connect to one wifi network (tmobile hotspot of course). All the rest will only connect if the power is plugged in.

But this is simply the worst GSM phone I have ever used.

Pros:

I am able to place a call with this device

Cons:
-Sound quality is poor
-Speaker phone is usless. All the caller hears is the echo of their own voice.
-Included headset is simply horrible. What was HP thinking?
-BT is buggy and the volume is too low.
-signal quality is poor. drops calls in areas where I haven't lost calls in years
-locks up during various phone operations (SMS received, incoming call, answering a call, etc.) requiring a soft reboot.
-no way to 'lock' the screen. when you hold it up to your hear it's easy to start a bunch of applications.
-buttons & applications are not intuitive. you have to use the stylus for many phone operations (or have really small fingers).

The worst part about the phone is the fact that you are at the mercy of T-Mobile for tech support. I like T-Mobile, but tech support simply can't assist me with any of these issues. And HP won't talk to me since I bought it from T-Mobile.

I have given myself a week to get used to this device but it's going back to the store. I'll have to wait to see how the Treo 650 works.

13x
Current phone:
SE Z600

Past phones:
SE T68i
E T39
E T28 W
I 888 W

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
