narn3049 submitted this review of the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This phone was amazingly durable. I probably would loose count telling you about the times I dropped this thing. It was horribly scuffed and dented and scraped by the end of the two year agreement, but I stuck with it because it worked for what I needed it for. I dropped this phone out in the grass in my yard OVERNIGHT and it survived. I would get this phone if your kid or you, abuses phones. It definetly can handle it. I left this phone when the mic stopped working, back then I talked more on them, but now I'm using it for texting and fb.

I'd buy it again if it had a camera, but the tone composer was enough for me back then, however took some learning curve, as you couldn't type the notes. Ended up with some funny tone combination, lol, BUT it was loud, and i could hear it over the preloaded ones, and it always was heard when I was at work.

It also got texted on a lot back then, even though more calls than texts were made/composed on this phone.

GUYS I EVEN DROPPED THIS From my ROOF and it survived the fall, sure it all came apart but it worked like a charm then.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It totally sucked like a hoover. I have many fond memories of times I had while I used this phone day in and day out. I think this is the first phone I used text messaging on. I hated the external antenna.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I thought this phone would be a nice phone. I hate it...the number 5 button often doesn't depress, the reception is horrible unless I'm in an area where there are sever att cingular towers nearby. The screen in not easy to see in the daylight hours and too small at that. I see this piece of junk has been discontinued.
Mine is going in the trash as soon as I find a good rugged phone without all the techie junk on it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The only problems I ever had with it was when I dropped calls or I got static, but it was not the phone it was the GSM network it was in..

Overall good phone, with great reception as long it was in an area with good coverage..

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

juicebox_herox submitted this review of the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I have never seen such a crappy phone in my life. With all my being, I advise you to never even THINK about getting the V188, take my word on it.

Within the first few weeks of having this phone, the up arrow stopped working. Imagine how much of a hassle it is to go through activities on the phone without an up arrow. I've had it for 4 months- you have no idea how horrible it's getting not being able to scroll properly. Of course, I could use the side volume buttons, but only on certain screens.
Battery life? Oh please. What battery life? I have to charge it twice a day now because it fails that horribly. In the beginning it'd last 3 hours talk time, 3 days max standby time. (And I mean maximum)
The hinge stopped working a few weeks ago. Now it opens and closes on it's own, and I have to tie a rubber band around it so that the battery doesn't wear down even more. Tell me that's attractive.

Here's a collective list of pros and cons for you:

Pros:
-IMing is great. I give it that. Unfortunately, I can't scroll up in conversations, so it doesn't do much good anymore to see what people are saying. It also only has AIM.
-Pretty easy layout.
-More customizable than some phones, although it isn't wonderful.

Cons:
-Breaks easily. I'm anal retentive with taking care of my stuff, in case you were wondering.
-Reflective surface on the outside blinds me as well as others.
-Battery life is HORRIBLE. 2 hours talking time max anymore, 1 day standby time. (mind you it IS a few months old, but it wasn't that great to begin with)
-Drops calls in a BIG CITY.
-Service comes and goes.
-Holds 30 text messages in the inbox max.
-Back comes off VERY easily. Rub it the wrong way in my pocket and it comes off.
-Vibrate Mode can't be felt 90% of the time.
-People complain about not being able to hear me with the volume turned all the way up.
-And more I can't think of off the top of my head.

Overall, please do yourself a favor and DO NOT GET THIS PHONE.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

After you come out of the basement area it takes 10 minutes to detect the signal again.
The navigation is terrible, to set the alarm clock you have to press 15 buttons - just an inconvenient waste of time.
The screen is small.
Poor battery life - takes forever to recharge.
Inaudible ringtone, useless vibration mode. Put it in your pocket and you will never know the phone is ringing.
No way to turn off keypad tones.
Awful calculator.
Pros
All the other depressing parts of your life don't seem so bad when compared to this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

callie submitted this review of the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

Some of you who read this review may have had a good experience with this phone, or a bad one. In my case, I had a bad experience, but it started out as a good one. I bought the phone unlocked from a third party. At first, the phone worked great. It would say that I had good signal strength, it would ring when I needed it to, etc. All of that changed after I was messing around with the phone one day, looking at the embedded ringtones I had on it. All of a sudden, the phone flipped out. The phone did not turn off, but the screen went white, and then it went black. Then it went back to normal. I called the manufacturer and told them what the problem was. They told me that there was a problem with the operating sytem and that the phone would have to be sent in to be looked at and get the new operating system put on the phone. I decided that that was more hassle than that little phone was worth, so I took an axe and destroyed the thing!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I've never had a single problem with it. The reception is excellent, no dropped calls (**Cingular**) and not a complaint I can come up with. While I knew it had no camera, the only thing I wish it DID have was bluetooth capability. It can receive picture files, audio files, etc. and has amazingly good quality sound. It has a "good feel" to it; fits my hand nicely, is small but has enough weight to make it easy to use.

I'd highly recommend it. I'm not sure why so many of the reviews have been negative???

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Stupid phone
> Has only four pre-downloaded wallpapers
> Vibration sucks
> Faceplates are heck to try and change
> Not durable at all, the screen on mine cracked when I freakin sat down and it was in my pocket against my leg.

I'm telling you now, this phone is horrible. Motorola really has gone downhill recently. This phone isn't even worth the money that you would spend on it. If it comes free, still don't even take it. Don't say that I didn't warn all of you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

torturefiend submitted this review of the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I was thinking about writing a review for this phone the other night. It was going to be a good review for the most part. Its been a little over a year and I wake up this morning and turn my fully charged phone on. To my suprise when I went to call my voice mail it just went black. After waiting a few moments it came "Back to Life" Then I tried to call my mother, went black again. Sifting through the innard remains of my now useless phone i realized that my phonebook is not accessible either!!! Ive lost every single one of my numbers since they were all saved to my "Trusty" phone. [...] Don't Buy it, Buy an Old school Nokia if you have to, they are WAY better!!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Victorcrown submitted this review of the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

This phone has been one big headache. After about 5-6 months of use the screen started going in & out. Flipping it open was hit-or-miss as to what you would see. No screen = no phonebook, no text messages, internet, etc., only dialing numbers & sending calls. As time went on it got worse until the screen was working maybe 25% of the time. The casing is cheap plastic, and the color started wearing off the sides and corners after a few months.

If you own a business, this phone is a nightmare. Pass it over for a better quality one.

Pros:
-sound quality is pretty good
-reception is generally good
-when it works, the screen is bright and looks nice

Cons:
-cheap construction
-screen goes haywire
-small buttons packed close together

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ghettoboi109 submitted this review of the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Shame on Motorola for releasing this phone. I bought it brand new on prepaid from T-mobile about say a year ago. The v180 was good in the first month. First little problem was thats after being closed for a while and you would open it and the screen would not come on. It would take like 15 to 20 seconds. SO I would be screwed if someone called in. Couldn't answer in time. Then It started dropping calls. The the power button stopped working so I would be forced to leave it on. Just too much hassle for 120 phone

Pros: Great speaker/speakerphone, instant messaging is good, texting easy, battery is great.

Cons: Too flimsy the screen almost came off, cheap plastic, software bugs, Color resolution terrible, not reliable.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

And it still kept running.

The only thing that happened was, in the last month that I had it, the "9" key was getting worn out, and I had to push it harder.

It's a simple phone, not very exciting, but it'll last!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

StarMan submitted this review of the Motorola V180 / V186 / V188:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

At first glance, the V180 would seem decent. For being offered for free, the features weren't too bad. I liked the looks and the sound worked well enough.

Of course when I had 3 of them go bad in a peried of 6 months my opinion quickly changed. The first phone's screen went whacky on me. The second phone, a replacement, was bad from opening the box. It kept shutting off at random points in the converstion. The microphone became full of static (which would crackle when you changed grip on the phone) and then quit working entirely.

Obviously the V180 is build exceedinly poorly. You can feel the cheapness in the construction and the always-fritzy operation.

Don't let a nice look and a few somewhat nice features fool you. This phone is a LEMON.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
