asadee83 submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I've only had the A630 for 4 days and am past ready to throw it against a wall.
I get no reception at my house at all. Can't make/receive calls, can't send texts (although I can receive them)
When I leave my house, I have to power-cycle my phone at least 3 times to be able to make a call.
Also, it doesn't resend the failed texts.
It's also dropping ALL my calls after 2 minutes max.
I don't know what it is. I have Cingular and I haven't had a dropped call in YEARS.
On the plus side, I love the bluetooth and making my own ringtones and the keypad is a lot harder to use compared to my LG F9100 (which I had previously).

CONS:
~No reception inside buildings
~ Drops calls
~ Unable to erase texts
~ No option to lock the keypad (IDIOTIC)

PROS:
~Bluetooth (yeah that's it)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

blazev submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

Have had this for for a couple of months and am sorry to say it was a waste of good dollars. While the phone's size and layout are cute, a definite conversation piece, signal stinks. I'm using this on the Cingular network. Cingular is an excellent network and I've never had a reception problem until I got this phone. I can never get more than 2 bars inside any building or my home. Even purchased a signal booster to help and it accomplished only 1 bar if that. I have no signal problems with any of my other phones.

Along with poor signal, ear piece, even on max is poor quality. Ringer volume, like all Motorolas, is also a joke. Heaven forbid you are in a bar, your phone is in your back pocket or bottom of your purse and someone calls. You will not be able to hear the phone ring.

Thought this would be a good phone, but I was unpleasantly surprised. Phone works great outside, so if you get this phone be prepared to hold a lot of conversations in the outdoors. I guess if you're a camper it'll work great for you.

With all the features it does have too bad they couldn't get the phone to pick up better signal and for goodness sake, Motorola, please level up the volume on the ringer and earpiece.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Transient submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

The A630 looked like the ideal phone for me at the time. I'm not a corporate user, just a single guy, and I do a fair amount of text messaging and personal email from my phone. Unfortunately, the honeymoon ended long ago.

The hardware is of decent quality. While the QWERTY keyboard works great for me and I quickly adapted, other parts of the phone simply feel cheap. For example: the front button panel slides around. I have dropped it about three times and, aside from a hairline crack, it's still in good shape. Even after a year or two, it's unique enough that people always ask me about it.

The software is another story. Motorola's operating system is astonishingly bad for this phone. I believe it's the same sort of OS as the V3 Razr. If the slow response is annoying on the Razr, it's absolutely miserable on the A630. On a message of any significant length (more than five words) I will have to wait for the phone to respond to keypresses. Sometimes up to twenty seconds between pushing a button and seeing the result. I clean up my mail/instant messages, keep only a few pictures on the phone, and have no extra content otherwise.
There is no excuse for it running so slowly. Heck, it even delays when I just dial a number.

The A630 does a lot of things right - but the problems are so restrictive that I can't wait to replace it.

Pros:
- Unique
- Excellent with basic messaging
- Relatively solid build quality

Cons:
- Some design quirks.
- Miserable OS response time.
- Doesn't always engage with charger, even when plugged in.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am lucky that I bought 2 (one spare) when I saw how much I liked it.

I use the email a lot and find that it is much cheaper than using the blackberry system.

Use the gmail as the repository of all your email and then sych up with this phone. It works ALL OVER THE WORLD!

It was a great hassel to get t-mobile to give me the subsidy unlock code so that I could use it out of USA.

WHY WAS IT DISCONTINUTED? CAN ANYONE TELL ME PLEASE?? I JUST HAVE TO KNOW.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

cdbyveronica submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Generally, this is my favorite phone, and I have a feeling that it will be, at least in the near future. Im so sick of the phones that have no keyboards, and the ones that do, are huge, how anyone besides a guy with huge pockets, fit a sidekick into their pockets, it's beyond me. But it does have some cons to it.

PROS:
stylish
simple, motorola menu
bluetooth compatible
ok camera quality
everything is accessible from the front display
which makes for quick calling
can take a nice beating
amazingly easy messaging.
i love the QWERTY keyboard
small, sleek, pocket-fitting design

CONS:
very short battery life
delay in displaying things
very little storage space & no memory card slot
speaker is kind of quiet especially when not on full battery
drops calls [i use t-Mobile in brooklyn, ny]
buttons are tiny and very close together, lots of typos going on.

but overall, i think there is no better phone on the market, well no, this phone is discontinued, but still. astounding phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

raskeithburton submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

After three replacements, T-mobile allowed me to exchange the phone for a V360. I loved what the phone could do--especially the QWERTY functionality. Unfortunately, Motorola obviously compromised on quality. I'm not sure it would be asking too much to have a steel case like the V60 or RAZR. I understand the MDA is now out with a windows based OS and lots of other bells and whistles. However, having spent $473.00 for a phone I owned for less than a year, I may just be sticking to the freebies and cheapies from now on.

It's such a shame--I hate having to give up a phone with soooo much potential.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Zumagio submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

I am on my third replacement and I only owned my phone for one year with light use. T-Mobile keeps sending refurbished junk. It is great for the person on the go that needs to check personal email or occasionally write a text message. The key pad is a lot easier to use that I first though and emails are easy to read with a powerful back-light. The problem that I have is speed. The email is very slow, and accessing applications takes a couple of seconds longer that you would like.

They apparently have recharging problems as they get older. One of the three sent had that problem, the original did as well.

If you need a cell phone and capability to occasionally check and write email, then this is the phone. If you need more than this you will be very frustrated.

PROS:
Check email
Good phone capability

CONS:
Poor reception
Worthless camera
Slow application
Phone book limited to just phone and email
Starts to have recharge connection problems.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kamel5547 submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

This would be a great phone if it would last more than 6 months. My poor rating is based on myself and my girlfriend both going through two of these phones in one year ( that would be a total of four dead phones). In each case the charging mechanism fails, even though the battery is still good. All phones were provided by T Mobile.

On the good side texting is easy and fun and all the features work great ( that is no substitute for having to get a new phone over and voer though). All in all most of Motorola's phones are great but do not buy this one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I loved the bluetooth feature which allowed me to cut up .mp3s and use them as ringtones, but the real catcher was the QWERTY keyboard matched with such a small, sleek design. No other phone, not even the latest Samsung T809 comes close to this phone, in my opinion, and I am pissed that T-Mobile discontinued this dream stick. The only con I ever saw in the phone was sometimes when I charged it the screen on the front would stay on. But I found by calling my voicemail and then immediately hanging up the screen would go dark like it is supposed to. I got the V3 after this one and I really don't like it. It's so wide and when you're calling someone it's like having a fat rule in your hand. Overall, this is an awesome phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I work in the wireless industry so have used almost every motorola out there. as far as motorola goes this is a good one but i have had many problems with the phone.

Pros: battery life is good, bluetooth is always a plus, and its AWESOME to text on.Phone does download long hifi ringers (music tones) will play almost the whole song.

Cons: phone is not very good quality as far as calls go. It does not get very good reception nor do most motorola phones. Camera is not very clear, a flash would be nice. Ear volume on the phone is not very good, i have very good hearing and it was very hard for me to hear on.

Over all this phone is good if you text alot and dont talk on it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tinkerbell8481 submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I got this phone from a contest offered by Motorola. I got the phone two months after I was supposed to. as a courtesy they sent me a bluetooth headset (hs810) for free. The phone had no sound whatsoever, The camera never showed up it just showed black, Everytime that I pressed the menu button it pressed the number 6. It also froze alot, the bluetooth did not work at all not with the headset or with any other phone. the headset it self will connect one out of ten times. however the headset has no sound on it either. i thought that the qwerty keypad would make texting a breeze NOPE wrong. with all the freezing and having to press the same letter three times for it to show up it was just easier to use a v3.
I called motorola and they told me to call the people with the contest to get it fixed. They told me they would send me out a new phone and headset and just send the old ones back when I got it. They said it should take about a week. Funny three weeks later never got them called them back they said no go through motorola called motorola and i have been playing the back and forth game with them since march.
I am glad I got this phone free, otherwise I would be very upset, however i worked very hard to get the phone now its like I worked so hard for nothing.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Most problems involved burnouts of the outer and inner screens.

My son likes the overall design of the phone, but he has spent more time waiting for replacement phones to arrive in the mail than he has spent actually using the phone.

T-Mobile refuses to replace the phone with a different model citing there is no "comparable" unit.

I have been a loyal T-Mobile customer, but plan to ditch T-Mobile and Motorola after this experience.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

vizzionman submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I just had bought the Motorola v330 and i was very happy with that phone. But then someone offered to cell me the motorola a630 for $75. i thought that was a good deal. but 1 day later i gave it back to him and got my money back.....and this is why... the speakerphone and the ringtones are very quiet on that phone, which is an odd thing. you cant have it vibrate and ring at the same time, which was very lame. some of the mp3 tones i tried to download didnt even playback. and the MAIN HATE of that phone is when you are scrolling through stuff or scrolling through menu's, the screen will loud like, 1 half at a time and quickly lode the other half, like its jumpy or something, but it was really annoying. it cant even take or recieve video either. i meen, come on!!! the motorola v330 is ALOT BETTER OF A DEAL!! you pay $150 less than the a630, except the v330 doesnt have the QWERTY keyboard, but who cares the v330 can take and recieve video, ringers are loud, can vibrate and ring, and has better color themes/skins. menus are scrolling loads alot better too

go with the v330, no keyboard, but more stuff

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

phillyslickster submitted this review of the Motorola A630:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Yes, I have the Cingular version of the A630. I have used this phone for two months. I'm very pleased with this phone considering that I waited forever for it to come out with Cingular. I purchased my phone at a Virginia Cingular store in the Richmond area. I have recently been told that this phone was made available by Cingular to the Virginia market because Cingular took over Triton PCS (SunCom) as part of the ATT Wireless Merger.

I get great reception and I travel up and down the East coast frequently. I like being able to receive my emails and respond to them easily with the QWERTY keyboard that is located inside when you flip it open.

Pros:
POP3 Email
Reception
MP3 Ringtones
QWERTY keyboard
Bluetooth
Size

Cons:
The outside keyboard really isnt that great unless just using for dialing a phone number.

I personally dont care for the menu set-up on the outside keyboard.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Lighted QWERTY keyboard, Bluetooth, Camera, & speakerphone. This is a fabulous phone which is fully loaded. A few things I would of liked the phone to have would be video, memory card slot, and at least a megapixel camera. I am very satisfied with my purchase and would definately recommend this phone to anyone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
