missy7 submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

This phone was amazing for its time! I have had this phone for years and it's taken a beating and still works great. I love the operating system- so easy to use. Of all the different styles of Qwerty keyboards on the market today, this flip open style is still my favorite. This phone was light years ahead of its time. Call quality great. Decent screen for its day. Camera very good for its day. Really, I had NO complaints about this phone. It's a trusty favorite that I'll keep for years to come as a back up phone and really belongs in the phone hall of fame! If it weren't for the upgrade of screen resolution/size/color quality, and the option to add a memory card, and to use mp3 files, etc that more modern phones offer... I would have never needed to upgrade. Alas, I did eventually upgrade and have settled in on my current Nokia 6555, but overall this was a great little phone. Glad to have owned it and definitely keeping it as a backup phone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is by far the best phone i have ever had. I am a Nokia freak, I will never own anything but a Nokia for the rest of my life. For all you people that complain about the camera, bye a digital. This is a phone, not a camera.

PROS:
-Very reliable (mine has never broke)
-Flip open QWERTY keyboard
-Easy to navigate menu
-Durable
-Nicely placed and sized buttons
-Bluetooth
-Infrared
-Email
-Internet
-Speakerphone is loud
-Ear piece is loud
-Great Phone overall

CONS:
-No MP3 ringtones (but you can get them through bluetooth)

Overall i think this phone is excellent. Good choice.

My provider is CellularOne and i wouldn't change that either.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mistercrinkles submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

nokia is my favorite manufacturer of phones. i've owned the 5120, 5165, 6120, 1100, 6200, 3300, 3200, you name it, i've had em all. my friend worked for cingular, and he would always give me phones that he'd won, or repaired, or whatever. so when i got a job with him in january this year, i had to get a nice phone.

that's when i fell in love with this one. initially all i'd cared about was the keyboard. it was exactly what i needed, since i averaged somewhere around 800 text messages a month. the phone was the size of the 6200 that i had at the time, so much smaller than the 6800 that i'd seen before. i needed this phone. just for the keyboard.

so when my boss struck me a deal on the phone, i was sure to take it. and so the saga began...

this is when i fully got to explore everything else the phone had.

EDGE. high speed internet, baby.
BLUETOOTH. bluetooth is my best friend now.
SPEAKERPHONE. for when i need time away from bluetooth.
KEYBOARD. everyone needs to text now and again.
CAMERA. it's pretty weak, but it does the job for the most part.
VIDEO. i've taken some hot videos ;).
E-MAIL. even though i never really use it :).

i have to say all those features in one make it the best phone out there, in my opinion. but the camera is pretty weak, heh.

the bluetooth is sweet though because you can wear a headset and easily do almost anything on your phone. like write text messages or e-mails while on it :).

it's so easy to type in full websites with the keyboard. everything on this phone is easy, everything on this phone is awesome.

this phone is perfect. except for the camera. lol

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

colione submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This is one of the phones I use everyday. I love the keyboard.

Pros:
-Keyboard
-Bluetooth
-Size
-Pop3 email

Cons:
-Keyboard doesn't light up in the dark
-Camera quality isn't that great
-Lack of belt cases or clips on the market
-Doesn't support mp3 ringtons

Overall I recommend a buy on this phone, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.
We sold a few of these phones to deaf people(polically correct?), and it allows fast typing of text messaging and emails.

The only reason I got this phone, I text alot and I love the bluetooth feature.

Great phone, the camera isn't that great, but it isn't that bad either. The night shot feature makes the camera worthwhile.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I love the QWERTY keyboard and that it has bt and IrDa.
PROS:
-Great Battery
-Full keyboard
-BT and IrDa
-Great reception
-Video and Camera
-EDGE

CONS:
-Poor screen colors
-camera is grainy
-only 3.5 MB of memory

Over all a great phone to have with lost of added features but would need a better color screen which the 6822 will provide. Until it is out, this a unique and fun phone that will meet it's expectations.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

alexpx submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

At first look, this phone has it all in terms of features, design, and sound quality. But unfortunatly, I've had much too many reliability problems with it and with much sadness and giving the phone up entirely.

The first major problem I encountered was after one month I owned the phone. The phone simply when dead from one moment to the next. Didn't get banged anywhere, no exposure to rain to excesive sun, simply lights out, bye bye.
To get the phone opperational again required servicing which meant 4 weeks without the phone, while the techs ultimately replaced the motherboard of the phone.

Now, after month 3 of phone ownership, any calls made to the phone get a busy signal, or no signal at all. Thought it was the network, but after checking and opening a ticket just to baffle my carrier, I decided to switch chips with my backup phone (shouldn't need a backup phone). Result: calls made to the 6820 regardless of which chip is there get the busy signal, the same chip in the backup phone get the call.

Those are the two major headaches I've had with the phone, but other, seemingly minor ones too, such as... if I'm out of network reach for some time, the phone does not notice there is reception again unless I turn it off and back on myself.

Pros: Great design, tiny but useable keyboard works great for sending eMails and SMS, speakerphone works well, nice colors.

Cons: Got more bugs than a crack dealers telephone. Doesn't work. Very disapointing.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

bnz300 submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

We received our Nokia 6820's a week ago, wondering if they would live up to our previous Nokia experiences which had been great. The phone is as good as we hoped.Phone calls are clear and not dropped. I have had the Edge for a while, (Nokia 6200), so expected the best there. The camera works well, as it was designed. We have 4 digital cameras so that wasn't the issue. The best part is the "querty" keyboard, making text messages a breeze.

Pros: Phone size: small& compact. Querty keyboard, which has a backlite.Calls are clear and stay connected. The Edge makes quick work of the internet connection. Bluetooth allows info transfer and a wireless earpiece made simple.

Cons:4K screen, still has good color. The camera could be better,(640x480) but works for our purposes.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The fold out keyboard is great, but the number pad on the front was too difficult to dial. The keys offer little feedback and they are different sizes and heights from each other. The screen is small, but very good. The phone fit nicely into my pocket. The phone performed excellent with T-Mobile (Unlocked) and using WAP, Bluetooth, IR, etc. I loved using SMS and IM with this phone. Also, I loved being able to respond to email with this device too.

Pros:
Fold out keyboard.
Size
Nice features
Great for IM, SMS, and E-Mail

Cons:
OK reception
Front Keys OK
Volume control is weird to operate

I used this phone for about three months. I got tired of the poor dialing ability, so I sold the phone on eBay and got a Nokia 6230.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

MXmorale submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

The phone is really cool. Actually one of the coolest phones I have had. Now let me just summarize my personal experience with this phone that might help anyone that might want to acquire this phone.

Pros:
-Great live video recording and sound
-Awesome for txt messaging
-Ok picture quality
-Good speakerphone
-The size is good, not too big or not too small.

Cons:
-The picture quality is a bit too dark and hard to see.
-Speaker phone is not too loud.
-If phone is in your pocket, or you mistakenly hit the button on top of the (end call) button to terminate a call, you can activate the connection to ATTWireless Mmode which you will be charged with. ( Make sure to always lock your key pad to avoid this problem and discussing charges with your carrier)
-Have noticed that I don't get calls for a while and when I look at the phone I realize it gives me a lot of SIM card Errors.

I reside in the Central Florida area around Orlando. The service is I would say about 90% good, I don't really get good reception around some areas where I live.

But in all I like the phone and even though it has some setbacks it is a great deal and a device you will have fun with, with all the features it brings.

Hope my review has been of some help to anyone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

JonnyBruha submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I used this phone for what seems like too short of time, but, that's how I am with phones. I was not disappointed, but just wanted more.

Pros:
+Pretty good speakerphone
+Full QWERTY keyboard?!
+Convenient size
+Typical, easy, Nokia format
+Great reception (ATT, Chicago suburbs)(shy of the house and work, ironically)
+Easy phonebook
+Bluetooth?!?!
+Stylish

Cons:
-Camera? What's that? No, this is just my muddy viewfinder that came built in on the phone...
-SOME poly ringtones work where some don't. Weird.
-Crappy display when compared to competitors
-Caller groups? What about individual ringtones? Nope.
-Video recorder? Through the muddy viewfinder, sure.
-No faceplates? Boo

Overall, I'd recommend this phone for a try if you're a Nokia fan. It was pretty good to me, I don't see why it won't be for you if you're cool with a mediocre camera.

I just hope the Moto V600 will work out better and defy the popular negative reviews....

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

BruceDude submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I intend to compare this phone to how it fairs when compared to the other phones available in the market right now as of Aug 23rd 2004.

I will rate this phone with a 0-10 rating in each category:
Price: 5/10
Reception: 8.5/10
Features: 9/10
Appearance: 10/10

The strong points of this phone:
-It's attractive and an eye catcher, which tends to warrant a lot of attention (which seems almost solely due to its flip keypad).
-This phone has everything except a Radio and a Flip, but seems to make up for it
-Reception is decent and sounds to be identical to the reception on its predecessor, the 6800.

Some of it features have gone somewhat obsolete as compared to other high end phones, which has affected my rating of the phone to slide down a bit.

-More recently released phones havethousands more colors than this one which only has 4096 compared with the 64k+ colors appearing on color screen models that came out during the same time period as this phone.
-The graphics on this phone are just a notch below par when compared to recent Motorola, LG or Samsung models.
-The price of this phone kills my rating for it because I believe it's a $100.00 above where it ought to have been when released (369.99 retail). I do take into fact that the phone is packed with a lot of neat features which probably bumped up the typical developement cost for this phone to being more than average, but needs to be more competitive with a price around 269.99 to strengthen its overall appeal to new and existing customers.
-To keep this high priced phone from falling short in appearance, a protective case is recommended because it lacks a cover for its screen.

Remember: Technology, technology, technology. Us spoiled Americans and other 1st world countries around the world need to be on the cutting edge in order to be satisfied...
but let us not assume that we're in the right mind...
Overall Satisfaction as of 8-23-04: 4.5

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jmeitzen submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

The biggest problem with this phone is that it's only available from ATT Wireless who has HORRIBLE customer service. It takes a long time to get through and that's not their only problem. About the phone.

Pros:
-solid feeling phone even with keyboard folded out; for text messagers (I'm not one), it probably would be one of the best phones
-It's a Nokia which means easily readable battery level and signal level meters and also when the phone rings, you can silence the ringer without refusing the call
-sharp professional look
-display has bright white light although size and color depth aren't as good compared to Moto V400 (but I still give the display a thumbs up)
-small with internal antenna so fits great in pocket
-ringtone selection

Cons:
-ATTW network would have perfect signal but volume occasionally gets VERY low even with volume maxed
-speakerphone fine if you're in a quiet room only! If you're driving 65 mph, forget the speakerphone, even if the radio and A/C are off and the windows are up (and my car is relatively quiet)
-Using Bluetooth headset was very disappointing (purchased top rated one separately); It is not clear unless you hold the phone right next to the headset which defeats the purpose. 30 ft. range? Yeah right, if you have the phone in your right pocket and the headset on your left ear, you will hear too much static to talk. You can then switch to speakerphone or regular phone use but switching back to the Bluetooth headset is apparently not possible.
-coverage area for ATT Wireless was surprisingly good in areas I expected problems but bad in areas where my other phones have never had problems.
-display is subject to scratches since not a clamshell, concealed display design
-first ATTW bill was WAY wrong and hard to get them to correct it; they sort of met me half way. LAME customer service if you can even get through!

So, if speakerphone isn't crucial, get this phone and have it unlocked for use with another provider

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

lionsfan submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

I've had my 6820 for 3 weeks so far and it's been a pretty good phone... but it is still not perfect.

Pros:
* Bluetooth & IR connectivity
* Great reception (with ATTWS)
* Nice back lit keyboard
* Camera w/ ability to record video

While it has a nice set of features, it does have some serious issues.

Cons:
* Bluetooth headset (Jabra BT250) spontaneously disconnects and reconnects
* Poor numeric keypad design... buttons difficult to dial in one hand (voice dialing helps avoid this, though)
* Crappy contact application. I much prefer the layout of the contact app on the Sony Ericsson phones where each contact is listed and you can drill down and see all their numbers and email (although only one email can be listed). The Nokia lists every contact + number separately and you need to go into the menu to hunt for other info.
* I don't care for the default actions of the joystick (it'd be nice to not have to drill down into the menus to turn bluetooth/ir off and on, etc.)... I prefer the SE layout. Also don't like that there's not dedicated volume buttons. Maybe I need to RTFM again.

There are few other things I wish they did, but I can't really consider them cons...

* A little larger screen would be nice for viewing WAP pages
* A SD/MMC slot would've been great for adding more apps and storing more A/V recordings
* They should've used the Symbian 6 OS
* Wish it had iSync support (hopefully coming in iSync 1.5)

In short, this is a pretty good phone. If they would've made a better keypad and added the Symbian OS with a better UI and a memory slot, this would've been a nearly perfect phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ParrotSquawk submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I purchased this phone as I wanted something as a stopgap until the Motorola MPx arrived. I was disappointed that some basic features were missing.

PROS:
--------
Great ergonomics, even for someone with big hands.

RF appears good.
Good Battery life.

Easy workable keyboard.

Good integration with Outlook 2002.

NEUTRAL:
---------
Small Screen:
It's a phone people, not a 50" plasma TV.

MP3 Player:
It's a phone people. I don't care if it can store and play the entire catalog of Beethoven's works.

Camera:
It's a phone people. I used the camera to take some quick shots of fans I was thinking of buying. It was adequate for that. It's not designed to be a Minox SpyCam or anything like that.

CONS:
-----
RINGTONES:
Weird MIDI format makes using other ringtones a bit problematic at times.
Inablility to assign specific ringtones to specific people (groups are not individuals...and I have more than 5 "groups") is a minus. Even my MOT V60 could do that.
Lack of ability to use MP3's for this purpose appears to put Nokia behind the curve here. This is not to be confused with the lack of an MP3 Player.

Limited memory locations:
I know it has one-touch dialing...but how about some shortcuts for other numbers rather than having to dig through the screens to find them.

Limited Voice Dialing:
Takes this out of the road-warrior category.

Volume/Ring Control:
Burying this deep in the menus makes this a pain to change. This could be allevieated by allowing it to be controlled through a voice command.

Bluetooth: A power eater. Easy to turn off, by using the built-in voice shortcut to turn on infrared, but the command to turn it back on is buried deep in the menu tree.

Menus in general:
I wish there was a way to make some shortcuts appear in a quick menu.

I would recommend this phone to almost any power phone user.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kekko submitted this review of the Nokia 6820 / 6820i:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I must say that as a phone this model more than satisfies the basic principles. It provides excellent RF, unbeatable audio quality, and when you combine the two it means steady, stable, uninterrupted voice. I wish all phones came with this in mind before they are shipped.

The screen may not be the best, but it only looks pixely because of the colours, otherwise it's not bad, but is rather small.

Took a while to get all the settings working from AT&T where it originated to Fido where I am now using it. Also the PC end of things was a long challenge, but worked out in the end. Remember to dial into GPRS/EDGE you'll need to dial the number "*99#" without quotes. I found this info on howardforums.com.

Anyway the keypad takes getting used to, but is a great conversation piece, and proves very valuable for e-mailing or SMSing back and forth. Too bad there's no ability to automatically poll for new POP3 messages, as that would have made it all that much better.

Everything combined though, I don't think there's a better phone out there in this price range, and I was previously a Motorola enthusiast because of their supposedly rock-solid RF and voice quality. The tone may be a slight bit richer on Motorola V-series, but Nokia has them beat on steadiness and flawlessness of voice quality on this handset. Many have said it rivals the 6310i, which is touted as one of the best phones by Steve Punter (well known phone reviewer) and if it compares to that phone, it must be a good one.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
