ArxFortis submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

After reading some of the reviews on this model, I must be in the minority. I bought my T731c from US Cellular in 2003. The phone has worked great for me. I am still using the ORIGINAL battery.

This is a DUAL MODE phone with Analog capability. As long as I stay in digital territory, it will last about 4-5 days on stand-by or about 2-3 days if I use it off and on. If I go to analog-only areas or places where there is no signal at all, the battery will go from full to dead in about 1 day. This is due to the higher power requirements for analog and the phone's constant searching for signal.

I'd like to get a new phone, but am afraid the "new" one would be crap and would never last me as long as this one.

I have only a few minor Cons about the phone.

1. The earphone jack does not secure the plug very well. I tends to pop out easily. However, since I rarely use an earphone, this isn't a problem.

2. The buttons are sometimes a little sluggish to respond. Sometimes I push a button and it appears the phone didn't register it, so I push the button again only to have the phone accept BOTH pushes at near the same time. Every phone has its quirks and this is one I've gotten use to.

3. The jack for accepting the power cord is a little loose. Sometimes the contacts don't actually touch and the phone doesn't charge after plugging in. This is likely due to the fact I've had this phone for 6 years and it's getting a little worn. I would not blame this on poor workmanship, but rather 6 years of plugging.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Though yes there are Pros and there are cons...

...Pros -
- Color screen bright!!!
- you can make your own tones (although short) in the pad device!
- Easy to navigate through functions
- Excellent Reception
- Quality Sound

Cons -
- Camera but had to buy seperately
- Not really that sturdy
- Interchangeble faceplates fall of easily

Overall it was a really good phone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kimmie.d.87 submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for less than a year and I've been through 4 of them. 3 of them had the exact same problem... the charger would not make a connection (I've also tried multiple chargers). The other one was stolen. The charging unit inside of the phone completely fell out two days ago. Unfortunately insurance only allows three replacements so I have to wait until May to get a new phone. I would never recommend this phone to anyone!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

spinizuey submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I realize that this phone isn't made or bought anymore and quite outdated (and no one is really searching reviews on it), but I want to express my opinions of this very good phone.

This was my very first cell phone and I bought it for $15 for Verizon in May of 2004.

I'm due for upgrade in a week and look forward to the evolution of this phone, the E815. I definitely got my moneys worth from the T730.

It has scratches, hairline cracks and worn paint - but that's what I would expect from a phone nearly 2 years old and used daily. Just like shoes, phones simply wear out.

98% of the time my reception and clarity was ideal and the only quirk I encountered were the few times the phone would simply "not turn on", when taking the battery out and replacing it fixed it. (I've heard that this happens with all sorts of phones).

So despite all the poor reviews, I think that this phone was durable, a great value and i truly enjoyed it as my first.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

oenone38 submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

For some completely illogical reason, I got this phone when I signed up for a two-year contract with US Cellular. It is horrendous and, in the two years that I've had it, I have wanted to smash it against the wall every day. Seriously, this phone makes me want to die.

Maybe it was US Cellular, maybe it was the phone but this phone had the worst reception I've ever seen. I might as well have carried around a rock that I could scrawl messages out on and then chuck at people because that's how useful this phone was for communicating. When I actually did manage to make a call, the sound quality was never good and I was always being accused of breaking up. Not only that, since I didn't get reception anywhere and my phone kept trying to get reception, the battery would just drain out within a few hours. I bought a bigger battery for it and it was basically the same, except I was much poorer and my phone was much bigger.

A lot of other people seem to have mentioned this problem, but I don't think anyone can reiterate enough how annoying it is to have your screen turn off on you randomly.

So cons:
- phone turns off randomly (possibly purely out of spite)
- battery life is horrendously bad
- reception (US Cellular) is horrendously bad
- you have to pay for every add-on (games, pictures, ringtones, etc.)
- phone turns on/off, displays functions, etc. as quickly as a retarded sloth
- you will want to kill yourself

pro:
- it didn't fall apart in the two years I had it.... but I wish it had.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

SteveHC submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

Cons: On this phone, dropped calls tend to increase in frequency and ultimately develop into total reception failure. After a few replacements I've finally discovered the source of the problem - the metal contacts inside the phone's (removable) antenna housing gradually spread out too far, eventually resulting in failure to stay in contact with the antenna. Solution - remove the antenna, bend the contacts inward, then replace the antenna. The reported problems with the plastic housing are real - cracks develop, even in the battery covers, and the little hinges on the battery covers eventually bend out of shape and can then break off altogether. The phone tends to "forget" its Phone Book display settings now & then, but resetting is a snap. There seems to be inadequate memory allocated to Get It Now apps, so many will not work. Charger/Speakerphone contacts on bottom of phone need periodic cleaning for reliable connections. "Mini" phone-powered OEM speakerphone attachment is of terrible quality in its performance.

Pros: GENERALLY excellent quality OEM accessories, incl. the FM radio and do-it-yourself auto speakerphone/charger. VERY good sound quality AND RECEPTION (when the antenna contacts are properly positioned!) compared to most other brands of its era. REMEMBER - the "number of bars" displayed on one phone from one manufacturer are NOT necessarily equivalent to the same number of bars on a different model (regardless of manufacturer).

Although add-on accessories, etc. used to be plentiful their availability has been drying up rapidly as the phone is considered to have reached the end of its product life... time to pass it on to the kid(s) (it does have GPS and so Verizon will reassign it for you if need be) and get a newer model; the great debate is now over Motorola vs. LG.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I chose it because it was cute at the time I started out with Verizon...but it is not quality... I had to replace it at one point through warranty.
If you are looking for a simple phone, maybe just for emergency purposes...not really a "cell phone user would say its okay.

PRO's:
-If you have Verizon, it will get great reception.
-No dropped calls
-Plently of phone book room

CON's:
-Horrible battery life
-Ring tones are horrible
-Ring tone downloads are limited to poly only..no "real ring tones
-No fantastic features
-The buttons will begin to become difficult to use
-Battery gets hot if you talk for too long
-Back light really dim & stays on for only a short period of time

If you opt to purchase this phone, I recommend you double check the warranty and get insurance through your service provider.

Good luck!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

stringbean321 submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

In my experiences with motorola phones i.e...startac, t731 and v262, the features are excellent. Motorola is one of the only phones that allow you to block each individual features from use or viewing.

The biggest flaw of the T731 and the aforementioned phones is the VOLUME!!! Listening to your party on the highest volume setting is good provided there is no other outside noises. If your walking down the street the slightest traffic noise will have you asking your party to repeat themselves. Motorola needs to make an adjustment with that. While thats the only complaint I have with the Motorola phones, its a major one if you use your phone a lot.

The make of the phone is good not to big or small and the accessories are good but if the provider will not let you test this phone before bying it, DON'T BUY IT!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I can't get reception anywhere around Renton, Wa. The battery last about 3, 2 minute phone calls. I want to throw it of a bridge. Motorola is going downhill.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

floridaboy submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I bought the t730 because of its reputation in my area for good reception. At the time I owned the LG vx10. The t730 has beat it hands down. I have used it extensively in NE Ohio and NE Florida, also along I77 driving back and forth. The service is with Verizon.
I dislike the software because it is less user friendly than other manufacturer's phones. It seems as if I have to take an extra step to do just about everything.
The phone locks up from time to time. I just pull the battery and turn it back on and it's good again.
The battery life has been disappointing, so I bought an extended battery.
The reception really has been good, and I use it to connect to the internet via USB cable. I like the phone, but there are better phones out there.
Overall, I think the phone has a bad rap because of the t720. If you can tolerate quirks, it's a good phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The first one was sent back because it ate battery charges. Couldn't get more than a day off of a full charge. The second one is not showing a blue screen. Can't get any information off of it. I had a Nokia for over two years and it was great. Would not recommend the Motorola to anyone. Really a BAD phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

martx submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I am using this phone on Telus Mobility's Network. This is far the best phone for sound quality and reception, but the worst for assembly quality, image quality... and the software has a lot of bugs.

I have tried a lot of phones including the Samsung a520, the Samsung a650, the samsung a600, the lg5450 and they all have the same problems concerning reception and call quality: ECHO!

I spend more than 1500 minutes / month on the phone due to my job and the Motorola T731c is the only one that doesn't have ECHO when you talk. Even where the phone has low signal.

I have tried several T731c and they are not all the same especially concerning the sound quality. Some of them have a really bad sound (You kindda hear some "flies" in the speaker) but some others have overall the best sound quality you can have in wireless phones. All you have to do is change the "ear-phone, speaker".

There is a similar problem with the lcd screen. Some of the T731c will have a good (not excellent) screen but others will see "lines" in their screens and the contrast can have a big difference from phone to phone with the same settings.

Overall this is a very good phone for the ones that want Excellent Sound Quality and mostly for the ones that "Echo" are making them sick just like me!

PROS:
+ Sound Quality
+ Reception
+Tough (dropped it several times even on the antenna and never broke)

CONS
+ "Blocked features" (Only on Telus Mobility)
+ Cheap Assembly, often hear some crackings (however it is Tough, as explained above)
+ Could have been "smaller"

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It is not worth a penny.

The battery life does not last long enough even with an extended capacity battery.

I have experienced several drop calls every week.

I went to a Verizon store (three times) and they chacked the phone every time and told me that there was nothing wrong with that phone. And finally, they gave me another T730, but nothing changed. Nothing.

So, I just got a new LG VX 7000 ten days ago, and since then everything has changed.
I am very very happy with LG 7000 and I intend to stay away from Motorola products.

I wanted to get Motorola V710, but since I had a lot of problems with that Motorola T730, I decided not to go for another Motorola anymore.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

freeriderstc submitted this review of the Motorola T730 / T731c:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I bought a new LG phone which I liked very well until I smashed it. The insurance co. replaced my LG with a re-refurbished Motorola instead of the one I had, against my objections. I could not read the time or caller id without glasses because of the small lettering, I had to charge the battery every night and I have had five phones in the last nine months because of similar problems such as turning off and on by itself or not receiving calls or no service due to problems with the phone. the pocket clip is no more than a toy subject to break very easily. I was without a phone for over a week a couple of times because the phones they sent me were junk. I insisted on a new one the next time and it broke within a few days. I think if the carrier requires a two year contract the phones should last that long. I just want a quality phone that I can use in my business. It seems to me that Motorola is making toys instead of a quality product No wonder they are giving refurbished t731's as replacement phones, It is because they have a lot of these junk phones sent in to them by other dissatisfied buyers. I think you should use this phone for a while before you give it a five star rating the day after you buy it because it will be to late to change your rating when you find out the truth

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Phone attachment clip is cheap and easy to break, can fall out easily, voiding warranty if it has dropped on floor. Have had several of these phones this year because each one has ceased to function properly after about two months of use. Had to send back replacement phones twice because they did not work properly from the beginning, one was refurbished and the other was new. my newest one is a month and a half old and has ceased to function properly. I called customer service and they asked if I had ever dropped it. I admitted dropping it on the carpet at my house getting up from the chair because of the flimsy pocket clip about two weeks ago and they said that voids the warranty and I would have to pay. since the phone seems to be so fragile I asked for it to be replaced with another brand

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
