killmeimbill submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

This phone is your basic Nextel DC phone. I really liked it because it had good battery life and good reception. The phone was tough and durable and the ability to change the outer "plates" was really neat. The speakers were loud and the vibration was really good. This was a very cheap phone and a very good one too.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

okamonk submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

Wow. I had this phone for far too long. I don't see why anyone would need this review now, but I just wanted to give a proper send off to this hated phone of mine.
Service was never all too bad until the merger with Sprint.
Worthwhile features: nada
What it doesn't offer: -it doesn't even have calculator
-does not display missed calls when phone is off
-recent calls only displays the very most recent call to or from and individual, no indication of how many calls you might have received from that person
-GPS worked once for me
-sometimes would just decided on itself not to receive calls (thanks sprint)
-dropped just about every call over five minutes once Sprint came aboard

So I suppose it was a decent vanilla phone and got the job done, until Sprint came aboard. Heavy as sin and a real burden to have in yr pocket. But those twits at Sprint locked me into a dastardly contract. Looking forward to T-Mobile.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It works fine. Dropped calls are frequent, but this is a service issue, which is simply that Nextel is horrid (I used to to do their customer service, trust me). The phone is durable though. Dropped it, kicked it... Just would NOT break. Blame the service, not the phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

coxmr1 submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I have used this phone for 2 years in the Houston, TX area via NEXTEL. It was issued to me by my employer and is required for my job. Now on to the phone....

This is a plain vanilla phone and that's not a bad thing. It has a full featured contact list that makes my wife's RAZR feel like a pad and pencil.

The sound quality is decent both using as phone and speaker phone. The only problem with the speaker phone during Push-to-talk (PTT) is usually the other person holding it too close to their mouth and speaking to loud when they use it.

The signal strength and dropped calls have become an issue in the Houston area since the merger with Sprint.

The ringer is loud loud loud if you want it to be even though the included ring tones are really poor. Unfortunately I can't change them as some features have been disabled do to being a company phone.

If you just need a phone then this is for you. Remember, plain'ol Vanilla is still the most popular flavor!

Pros:
Good Sound Quality
Powerful address/contact list
Easy to use

Cons:
Slow to power-up and read SIM
Signal Dead Spots worse since Sprint merger (Houston)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

cellular_lover submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

First of all, like in some other reviews, it is a phone and it does make calls. But, you can barely hear the calls as it drops calls on a daily basis.
This might just be my luck, but I only had service on the i205 for 4 seconds! (Even with a Nextel tower visible) I had to make a call within those 4 seconds, and when I did, 98% of the time it would connect. Weird, huh?
Anyway, I think it was bulky. I had to give it about 5 minutes for it to read my sim card. I would turn on the phone and go to contacts. Then it would say, "Please wait. Reading SIM". It didn't have games and the ring tones sucked and so did the speaker.
Also, when I would make a call, it would make a tapping noise. "What the heck is that?" I said to myself when I first got the phone.
I guess you can say that it is only good for emergencies.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

it-geek submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

As with any carrier there are going to be spots where reception isn't what you would like it to be.

That being said, my Nextel experience has been the absolute best cell phone experience. I've been on AT&T, Alltel, T-Mobile, Verizon (5 differnet phones), Nextel and now my wife is on Cingular, so I also carry a phone on her Cingular plan, so we can talk for free. She still calls me on the Nextl about half the time because I get better reception in the data center on the Nextel than any other phone I've owned.

Now on to the phone. It's a phone, that's all I want it to be (plus some decent address book functions - which it has). I want a solid phone that provides good reception and durability. And that's what I've got with the i205.

The address book will store multiple numbers per contact - something my co-workers bemoan the lack of in their phones (even Moto) from other carriers. I have used the text features to gradualy replace my pager, and find it to be reasonable. The only feature I would really like is Bluetooth.

The speakerphone is also very loud and clear on both ends, as is the normal in-call use.

Sure I occasionally long for a Treo, or a phone with a color screen, or a camera, or some other feature that I lack. But when I pickup those phones at one of the stores and play with it for a couple of minutes, I really appreciate the simplicity and reliability of my i205.

PROS: Solid, reliable phone, great call quality

CONS: No Bluetooth (a minor lack)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It wasn't quite the i730 that I had before, it worked, and that was all that mattered.

PROS
-Decent RF Performance
-Good Battery Life, for a Nextel

CONS
-No Java Apps
-No Color Screen (Come on, its a free phone)

Pretty much I think that the i205 is great as a phone, and only a phone. If you want to have a color screen and other gadgets and gizmos, then you are going to have to put out a little bit if money and maybe get an i560, just my .02

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

booradly submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

It's a pretty simple little phone. If you have trouble operating this you definitely should NOT have a drivers license. The menu is small and it's easy and quick to access all the features. The back-light makes it pretty easy to see at night and it's easier to see in daylight than any color screen I've seen, but... The screen is small and the text and digits in the games is near impossible for me without my reading glasses. Maybe I just got lucky but it has the best reception of any Nextel phone that I or my wife have had or heard of. I really like it for that alone. It's true that the sound quality sucks. The volume is easy to adjust but I'm on it all the time. I wasn't impressed that the speaker phone is disabled or whatever. I want mine on but if it costs $25 like another reviewer stated, forget it. I got this phone to be a cheap phone. One that is no great loss to loose or destroy but has the basic necessary functions without the thrills and spills and fancy color screen. Nice not to have the flip thing too. I always thought that flip would be sooo cool but found it to be annoying once I had it. It's pretty small too at least by Nextel standards. You gotta pay for that direct connect somehow. The battery life is good. I don't see how that could have been a prob for anyone unless they were using an old battery. Oh yeah... the sim card thing! You gotta love that. Swap it around and use a different phone everyday if you've got 'em. This one is new generation with the 64k, 600 # card yet it will still work nice in my old i60, albeit no address book, but it's still sweet. Try that with Verizon.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Nextel should have paid me to take it off their hands. Battery life is horrible. Reception is terrible even in areas that have known coverage. The menuing is not well thought out at all and requires way more effort to use than most modern phones. Sound quality is not acceptable I'm tired of hearing "Can you hear me now"!

Enuf of the Cons. The Pros to this phone are .... I chose this phone b/c the Nextel salesman told me it was one of their best phones. (My husband got another type and is not happy either) Anyway, we have decided to bite the bullet and get out of the contract. There is no use in having a phone or service that doesn't work.

Pros: ABSOLUTELY NONE!

Cons:
Sound quality is atrocious. I feel like I'm calling someone from space. I constantly have to adjust the volume to hear the person I'm talking to and that is only when by some act of God I can get through because the phone drops my calls on a regular basis. Especially if I'm driving. It happens even if a phone tower is in sight, which really infuriates me.

Another irritating factor is when you call my phone to leave a message you will hear, "Please hold, you are being transferred to an automated voicemail system" Then you hear my personal message. What is up with that? Isn't the point of VM to quickly leave a message? Instead the caller has to hold for like 2 minutes.
My voicemails also arrive hours later....NOT IMMEDIATELY!!!!

It also takes forever to navigate to the address book.

The direct connect is reasonable, but hardly makes up for the other crap.

Save yourself the trouble if you live in the Cincinnati tristate area. NEXTEL & THIS CRAPPY PHONE ARE WORTHLESS!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I constantly have dropped calls, call failed messages, and the phone always says redialing when I try to make a call, but never actually redials. The Direct Connect doesn't seem to work to good either. My phone has been to service now twice, in the last 4 months just for this problem (still not fixed). I am on an ongoing quest with Nextel to just get a phone that works. Its not worth buying a phone like this, to never be able to use it when you need it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Everything on it is still working and it has had many of accidents. Where i live the service is great it also gets great service in my work place to. I haven't had any trouble at all with it and i am very satisfied!!! Compared to the flip phones which has a lot of problems this phone is perfect and cheap for anybody looking!

pro's- two-way, very tuff, very dependable, roadside service, and lite weight.

con's-plain color, menu options aint to good and battery life isn't long

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Jusdrummin submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

My company has been using Nextel for about 5 yrs. for the DC feature. They just bought 30+ of these because they got "such a good deal".

These phones are worthless - the phone I use resets itself or freezes up at least 2-3 times a day. The sound goes from audible to completely garbled through out the day.

This is a work phone, I'm not too concerned about it having games (it does you just have to look for them harder)or being sleek or cool looking - I just wish it would work.

I do like the fact that I can talk direct to just 1 person, instead of having to go through our dispatcher to relay.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

drcool submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

The Motorola iDEN i205 is one of my least favorite Nextel phones i've had the opportunity to use. Second only to the i30sx, which was a worthless paperweight. This phone is very small and brick like. It is very bulky and not egronomic. The keys are small and the button layout is horrible. The screen is almost to small to even be functional. It doesn't have speakerphone by default, it's available but you have to pay $25 to purchase it. If you want a good, inexpensive phone go with an i85s/i88s as they are the best bang for the buck.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

crquality submitted this review of the Motorola i205:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

The only cool feature is the GPS- that's it.

The phones reception sucks, I lose signal totally when the phone rests on my keyboard (and I'm on a second floor of a building, right next to a window) My old i1000 gets fine signal even in the same location. Go figure...

At any rate, there are no games, and the screen (B&W) is pretty tiny and when navigating menus, you can't see everything. You have to "hover" over it in order to get it to flash back and forth- scrolling so you can read it all.

The phone is a pretty nice size though- it looks just like the Nokia phones that a lot of people have, much nicer than the i30sux was. It does feel rather flimsy- I wouldn't trust it to survive a drop, but for $50 w/service, or eBay special boostmobile (what I did) it's not a bad entry-leve phone.

The GPS locater for me is the strong selling point- hopefully it will work even when the phone doesn't- ie when camping away from the highway. I like to know where I am.

Overall, the phone is o.k. my personally biases persuade me AWAY from Nextel but that aside, this phone will do the basic job for you in a nice little package.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
