narn3049 submitted this review of the Kyocera SE47 / SE44 / V5 (Slider):

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

Currently I have the Samsung N330 and I LOVE that phone but I had the phone Kyocera SE44 and I liked it and also disliked it.

PROS:
The phone is/ was pretty cool for it's age. the ringtones and games were great.

Texting was easy, and the phone locked when it was shut, that means no butt dialing.

Cons:
Along with a couple other Kyocera products I reviewed, this phone also has some lagness to it, when easy to text, dialing the number you were texting to was somehow inputted slowly. As was dialing a phone number, for some reason texting flew with the speed that you texted on. It also was durable. The other issues, were the battery life, It died a lot and had to be charged a lot. 2 hours every day it would have to be charged, and i disliked that, because it would die when I needed the phone during work or etc. a good investment to that phone was the car charger. It needed it! The browser was slow (but it's not a smart phone so the phone rating's not based on that.

OVERALL- CONCLUSION:
If you can find the way to get this phone (as it is now discontinued) and you purchase a few extra batteries and a car charger (as the battery seems to weaken fast so that you have to get a new one.) You should consider it. The phone is good- if the lag-ness and glitches would be fixed, then the phone would most definetly earn a 5.0

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

How did that one get by me before I purchased it? A BIG flaw, in my opinion.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

After about 6 months of using the phone kept going into analog so i switched it to Digtel Only well when i did that the thing just kept saying Searching... So The next day it started working again. About a month later everytime I would Slide the phone up the screen would freeze and then turn white.I got rid of that thing and got the Slider Remix..(So much Better)

Overall I think this is what the phone deserves. :/

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

brennafizz83 submitted this review of the Kyocera SE47 / SE44 / V5 (Slider):

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

With its cute, unique design, this was the first phone I ever fell in love with at first sight...but then I actually bought one. You can't use the phone unless you slide it open. Even the buttons on the outside cannot be used for anything without giving you message that you must open the phone to use it. And, apparently, it is not capable of handling real ring tones (which I have become addicted to), the earpiece volume is not loud enough and the quality of the sound you do hear from the earpiece is not great. But, I was willing to put up with all that just because it was cute (yes, I AM that shallow).

The dealbreaker for me was when I bought the pink housing. You need at LEAST 2 different, very tiny screwdrivers to install the housing, and you have to take the entire phone apart to do it. Looking at the housing, it's obvious that you have to take it apart, so that wasn't the real problem...the real problem was that, once you take it apart, you can't get it back together without breaking it. You have to disconnect the wiring strip, and it is near IMPOSSIBLE to reinsert without breaking the connectors. I broke the connectors and I am now out all the money I spent on the phone, the housing, and the tool kit I had to buy to change the housing...plus, I have no phone.

If you don't mind having your phone be the same color (or if you have a steadier hand than me), if you don't mind not being able to hear real ring tones, and if you don't mind the earpiece issues, this is still a nice phone. It's just not the right phone for me.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Venetir submitted this review of the Kyocera SE47 / SE44 / V5 (Slider):

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I purchased a Kyocera SE 47 to replace my LG VX 7000. I loved the VX7000 but it unfortunately succumbed to its last fall and the screen shattered. I had a few months before I could get a new phone at any sort of discount price so I figured I would buy a used phone off of e-bay. The 47 seemed reasonably priced and the options seemed to more or less correspond to that of the 7000.

I must say for voice calls the phone is great. The speaker phone is only slightly horrible (most cell speaker phones are,) the regular sound quality is decent, and the reception seems normal. The speed voice dialing works quite well and the contact/speed dial system is great. I absolutely love the level of organization possibly with the contact list.

This phone's failing will be noticed by anyone who uses their phone for anything beyond voice calls. I happen to send a great deal of text messages to friends, family, co-workers, et cetera. The text messaging software is abysmal. It is possibly the worst I have ever seen. It is incredibly slow, unintuitive and hard to use. In many cases inserting a period will prompt the phone to suggest another hyphenated word, leading to the insertion a space, typing a period, and deleting the space. In addition, the phone's small keys make it difficult to use it accurately and the fact that a key press may be registered without feeling a click from the key itself is a huge problem.

Pros: Great voice dial, good reception, call clarity, cheap price, passable speaker phone.

Cons: Throwback to previous cell phone generations: Slow response time, unintuitive user interface, random received 'ghost calls and messages' when using browser.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I can't believe people are crying about the keyboard size. (did you try it first fat fingers?) The screen is too small. (did you try it first bad eyes?) This is a great little phone. I get great reception, it's got a speaker phone that I can hear. It's durable. The price is right. If you don't like it, don't buy it. What a bunch of whiners.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

For the age I was, it was a great phone to have, but that's probably one of the few things I have to say good about the phone. For some reason it would randomly restart on me or just malfunction and display a black screen. It would hide my text messages and voice mails for a couple days before bombarding me with them all at once.

I would only recommend this phone for a teenager who wants to look stylish. It's an easy phone to use but there is nothing really outstanding about it. It did have good reception though and cute little icons for incoming calls. However, if you drop your phone often you'll hate this thing. It will crack and break easily.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

IrisMG submitted this review of the Kyocera SE47 / SE44 / V5 (Slider):

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

The K7 certainly fit my needs, after all I needed a phone that was a phone and not a toy. However, I needed something a little more refined that didn't cost more than a TV set, and that had a wireless handsfree option.

Well, this phone has one, struck me as being a little better made than the Nokia model that Virgin Mobile sold, and with this being a Kyocera, a lot of the same features carry over to this model from the K7. Plus, it has a speakerphone and only cost $40.

When the phone is opened, it's actually a little longer than my K7, so I don't have to try to deal with something so small that I'd be afraid to lose it.

The sliding mechanism seems solid, but as a caveat, it's easy to accidentally close the phone and hang up on somebody. I would say that it's important to slide it out all the way until it clicked. Anyone who's used to cell phones are used to dropped calls, and the party can always call back, but I offer that just to keep in mind.

Now, here's the part I hate. Transferring your number from your old phone to the new one is easy. However, the address book is another story. Because these phones don't have SIM cards, you have to manually re-type your contact list. A substantial list of contacts means spending a lot of time re-entering on very tiny keys. I think that Virgin should make an online database available so that people can download address books as easily as they can ringtones, as I believe contacts are infinitely more important.

Which brings me to the other part of the phone I hate. I realize the phone was marketed to a kid and not to a 45-year-old adult. However, I see no reason why I couldn't have kept my "Happy Cricket" ringtone that I used on the K7. There's nothing on the new one that alerts me so cheerfully as that one did.

All-in-all, though, the phone works as a phone should, is not blue, after reading the manual is easy to use. It's a nice inexpensive step-up from the K7. I'm happy with it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

hdayejr submitted this review of the Kyocera SE47 / SE44 / V5 (Slider):

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I had to replace this phone ONLY 5 times. Bought it as a pre-pay Verizon via Best Buy. Had to replace it the first time because when I went with a contract(BIG MISTAKE!) with Verizon, it wouldn't come out of pre-pay mode(Get it now wouldn't work, etc). Second phone had absolutely no reception. Lost track of the problems. Eventually ended up crashing after using Get it now applications, screen scratches way too easily, battery life is terrible. It is pretty bad when a VERIZON SALES REP. tells you that he got rid of his Slider for the same reasons. I wouldn't recommend this to a dog, let alone anybody with sense.

What a waste of time for Kyocera to had even designed this thing!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

abd123 submitted this review of the Kyocera SE47 / SE44 / V5 (Slider):

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

First let me say this is my fourth cell phone and they have gotten better each time. As some reviewers have stated the battery life does go down but after having defective batteries replaced by Kyocera I am convinced it is all in the battery. The original batteries it came with can not hold a charge for very long while the newer batteries don't need to be charged for a few days.

I have found the phone to be very durable. There's no doubt it gets scratched but hey it's made of plastic. I've dropped it numerous times, my 18month old soon loves to play with it. He pulls on the antenna, drops it, bangs it against things, slides it open, slides it closed, repeats that a hundred times, presses all the buttons, swings it around by the antenna, etc. I've had the phone for 2 years and it still works fine. It looks beat up but it still runs fine.

It was a hassle going through the menus to silence the phone so I setup one of the hotkeys to be the silent toggle. The speaker phone and voice dial are handy since I am usually talking while driving. The rubber flap on the ear piece did not last very long and I wound up just ripping it out.

The keys are kind of small but really, what do you want - humongous keys on a humongous phone. I'm a 5'10" guy with normally proportioned hands and fingers and I don't have a problem dialing though I have to admit I usually just voice-dial so that I'm not looking down at the phone while I'm driving.

So to summarize - if your battery life is bad get a new battery, if the phone isn't standing up to your abuse, maybe the problem is you and no this phone is not perfect but it is not that bad.

Oh one last thing my wife has also had this phone for the same amount of time with no major problems.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
