reviewer1000 submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

OK I've had this phone for a year now and it has been reliable, but there are definitely some major flaws...will definitely upgrade. If you are considering buying this then think again. Here are the pros and cons that come to mind:

Pros: Nice outside screen, OK battery life, Fairly sturdy exterior design.

Cons:
-Edge of phone that you hold next to your ear HURTS--prolonged periods of talk (15 minutes or over) hurt the ear like hell--Bad Design!!!

-Inner LCD is easily damaged from stress and strain while being closed--this WILL occur if you put the phone in your jeans pocket or something tight like that.

-Weird volume issues (ringer is really just too loud when on 'low', and unbearable when on Med to High)...probably means the acousto-mechanics of the phone are not fine-tuned.

-Don't get battery leads near water or moisture--this will kill your battery and these are EXPENSIVE to replace.

-Reception is generally crappy and the phone has dropped a lot of calls.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

prpletiger submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 1.5 (out of 5)

This is the second phone in less than a year. The phone will have a full charge, but out of the blue will shut off for no apparent reason. You have to remove the battery & put it back on to turn it on again. Then the phone needs to be charged again.

I have had numerous dropped calls. The signal...well 90% of the time I don't get a signal in my home. The only time I get a good signal and don't cut out is when I am outside.

Pro's:
small size
easy menu
pretty good ring tones
good sound

Con's:
short battery life
dropped calls
bad reception
over-heats & shuts off

Do yourself a favor, don't waste your money with this phone. It's more of a headache than it's worth.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Johnny_America submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

After owning the LG VX 3100 and the VX 4400B for Verizon in NY, I received this one through the Lockline insurance. It works very well if you're looking for just a basic, easy to use flip phone. It has the external caller ID, which is always a handy feature.

It's design is rather unique, with the round LED display on the outside, and the scrolling numbers are nice to look at. The only draw back is that you cannot set it to remain on permanently at all, even in a low powered capacity. This would be handy, but I do wear a watch so it's not a big deal.

I've not had the trouble of it shutting of at random as other people seem to have. The only quirk I have is there's no normal ring tones on phones anymore. I would like a ringer to sound like a ringer, just a little annoyance, again no big deal.

All in all, a good little phone if you can get your hands on it and don't need anything flashy like a camera or bluetooth.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

wyoming48 submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

I have only had a cell phone for 6 months. In my opinion, there are only two things that are really important in a phone: form and functionality. Form being the looks, screen, keypad, menus, ringers, volume, etc. Functionality being the reception of calls, does it drop calls, missed calls, and unable to dial out.
In my opinion, the LG VX4600 has nice form. I would give it a 4 or 5 in form. The problem lies in functionality. It did well for about 2 months. After that, it started dropping calls in places with a strong signal, not dialing out in places of a strong signal, and a few other things. This is the biggest factor for me. It does not matter what kind of form a phone has. If it does not function properly, then it is not worth having.
PROS: I like the outside screen for caller ID. I also like many other things about its form.
CONS: Unless you never leave a place with a STRONG signal, do not get it! It's not worth your time or money.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Blinkr submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I will be receiving my 2nd replacement tomorrow on this phone in 5 months. 3 phones in 5 months. Right after receiving my new VX4600 last Aug. I had to return it because it would turn off without any reason. Then it got so I could turn it on & it would immediately power down. Verizon replaced it about 2 weeks after I got it.

The past 3 days it has been doing it again. I called today & they are replacing it again. I don't know what I will do after the warranty goes off. But I do know that when my contract comes up for renewal, I will be getting rid of this one & getting something else.

You may want to reconsider purchasing this phone. It's reliability is questionable. I hope I am proven wrong on the next one they are sending me. But I doubt it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jimbonr submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I purchased this phone on line because I didn't need or want a camera phone. The appearance of this phone is fantastic. Very different and pleasing to the eye. It's a small phone, much like the LG VX10. It's basically a LGVX6000 without the camera. Looks aside, I was getting an echo effect when talking, some calls were going directly into voice mail without notification, and the signal meter was strong and non existent in areas where I always received service. i attribute this to the pure digital nature of the phone. I just returned it today, after usuing it for 2 days. Avoid this phone.

I guess the 6100 is my next stop.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

stuckinmichigan submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I just bought this phone at close to nothing as a new Verizon customer. I have to say that this is probably the best bang for the buck that I have ever experienced when it comes to cell phones. The phone is one of the most elegant phones I've owned and it seems to be very well built and sturdy for such a small phone. I would say it's about the size of those Motorola 60 series phones, just maybe a hair thinner. The battery on this phone is very nice. I've maybe about a half hour of calls and had it on stand-by for 4 days now and still have 2 out of 4 bars on it. The reception is excellent! I get all 6 bars in my room where previous phones all had 2 at the most. It seems to hold a digital signal better than any other phone I had. The call quality is VERY clear and loud. The outside display is something I really like on this phone. It has the same outside display as the LG 6000 with the flashing dots and bright numbers against a black background. This makes the display very easy to see in bright sunlight or any condition. The internal display is also very nice with a color screen that could compete against some of the phones with a camera. Also comes with some very cool wallpapers. The only thing I don't like about the phone is the bulky charger kit that comes with it. It has a very big and heavy adapter that you have to plug into a desktop charger stand or cradle and then slide the phone into that. All that bulkiness for such a small phone. This also means you have to take the phone out of the case (if you can find one) to charge it. All in all, this is a great phone though.

PROS:

excellent reception
great outside and inner display
very clear and loud ear-piece on phone.
small but not too small
good battery life

CONS:

Bulky 2-piece charging kit.
all digital, no analog.

Final:

I would highly recommend this phone, especially if you can get the new customer price on it. I would give it 5 stars if not for the bulky 2-piece charger.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It feels like a solid, good quality phone. The OELD is really cool too! I get great reception where I live (although this is my first Verizon phone, so I don't have anything else to compare to). LG seems to have loaded this phone with a lot of great features, and with the current $29.99 price tag for new customers, you just can't beat this bargain!

If you're looking into this phone, and are seriously considering it...my advice is to get it! You'll be glad you did.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

EdNJ908 submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I bought this phone as an upgrade for my LG VX4400. The VX4600 is a better phone. It holds a digital signal better and has clear and loud audio The ringers are loud. The screen is sharper than the VX4400. It's smaller, and retains the same intuitive LG menus. The only shortcomings are that the phone is hard to open with one hand, keys are too flat, and there is no easy way to silence all tones as there was in the VX4400. It's also an all digital phone which may be problematic for some people, but not for me as I have only needed analog once in the last three years in Maine and that area has since been upgraded to digital service. This phone is definitely a good choice for the casual business user who needs a compact phone without the camera and that supports National Access (data communications via cable and USB connection to a PC).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I work for a wireless company here in Canada for the states.. won't say who and LG gets a good rating from my customers as well. I have this phone and the LG 6070, my only dislike about this phone is no MMS and cannot answer MSN messenger txt b/c software in phone is too advance for MSN... that's what Telus Mobility tells me anyways. Whereas my 6070 does. This phone has an awsome display and great reception, I love my mobile browser... though my not my choice of rateplans... you americans are so lucky! I have to pay 50.00 and I get 100 daytimes mins, you guys for 39.99 get 600! It's a travesty! Anyways all LGs I have used have been great no go get one!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

nonative submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

This is a very nice phone, with great color and great features, but I do have a few gripes. The external display, while colorful and pretty, is almost useless, as it turns off after 3 minutes and gives you no indication of whether you've received a call... no tone or anything. If you want to press the side button to activate the display, it will show you whether you have a message or a missed call, but other than that, good luck.
The other major gripe I have, whether service (Verizon) or phone I don't know, but it often drops calls with a full signal strength bar, and sometimes the phone doesn't even ring. Other times, I get messages up to 24 hours after they've been left. All in all, the horrible function outweighs the few positives this phone has.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Now I gotta get this off my chest, there are a lot of reviewers knockin points of for minor things like cant see screen as well in sunlight, which most phones you cant. Phone has a yeloowish tint, sounds like youve got a bad one that a year warranty comes in handy for. I mean come on people this phone will not fly you to work and will not buy your gass for you.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Motown submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Picked up 2 of these about a month ago and both have been reliable so far.
Reception has ranged from excellant to great depending on who I was talking to and what they were calling on and what service they had, like anything else.
Volumes on earpiece and ringers can be quite loud (thankfully) and vibrate is strong enough to get noticed, as I use this the most.
Number of ringers is pretty good (a lot of goofy ones and at least a few normal ones) and backgrounds as well. All personnal preferance so at least there is more than 5 or 6 to choose from. Your mileage may vary.
Easy to manage LG interface.
Screen brightness has not been a big problem inside or out yet. I did stop the sideways scroll by setting the front backlight to 5 seconds as I really don't need to look at the clock all day and am glad the option exists as it saves power on the battery by not having to be on all the time. No reason to leave it on if I'm not looking at it.
Voice recognition works absolutely great and use it most of the time. Feature has worked almost flawlessly, surprisingly.
Battery life seems about average to slightly better for todays cell phones. No complaints but am waiting to get extended battery all the same.
I found the holster pretty useless (especially if you have to constantly take phone out) so I picked up the small body glove which fits and works much better with the phone.
Not a heavy user so I guess I'm not as picky about the little things, as the modes do what they're supposed to, regardless of what they're called, and the phone has had good reception and not dropped any calls, which is not surprising as I live in a pretty well covered area (although I have tried a few areas off the beaten path and have had no problems as of now).
If anything changes I'll post again but so far not much to complain about and I'm pretty picky about call quality and overall product. We'll see how it holds up.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tem158 submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I migrated from a Nokia 8260 AT&T phone to the LGVX4600 with Verizon. The new phone is decent overall. It has a loud ringer, a nice, crisp display, and has great voice quality (on the earpiece). However, people I'm talking to on this phone frequently complain about the voice quality of the microphone. They have often said that it sounds like I am in a tunnel.

The 4600 has pretty good battery life, which was an improvement over my old 8260. It will go for about 3 hours of continuous talking before needing recharging. On standby, it will go for a couple days, which I found really impressive.

There are no built-in games that come with the phone, although you can download a bunch from GetItNow for pretty ridiculous prices of $5-12 or so. You have to pay for ringtones and graphics as well, which I believe go for about $3 apiece. I really don't think that these things are worth the price, and there doesn't seem to be any other way to download stuff.

A major annoyance with the phone is its inability to handle a weak signal and its occasional difficulty switching between cell towers. Whenever the signal is weak on the phone, it drops calls very frequently. Sometimes, even with a strong signal, it will sporadically drop calls. This happens even when I'm stationary, which puzzles me. I'm not sure, but I think it has something to do with poor call-handling software programmed into the phone.

One additional bother with the phone is that it is not headset-friendly. The only way you can talk on the phone is to have it opened up, even when a headset is connected. This makes it fairly awkward to carry in your pocket while talking. Also, the headset jack seems to be poorly made, because the headset audio will often cut out in the middle of a call and I have to wiggle the jack to make it come back. That could be the fault of my headset, but I doubt it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

gregg007 submitted this review of the LG VX-4600:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I have to say that I am very unimpressed with the LG VX-4600. This phone has many annoying things about it that just kill it for me. The main display is terrible, it has a washed out dark look to it. No matter how I adjusted the brightness and contrast it looks very dull and dark. I just had an LG G4015 from AT&T and it has the same type of screen but it's much crisper than this. The outside display is all but useless, after a minute (or up to 3 minutes) the outside display turns completely off, I hate that, you have to hit a side button to turn it back on and then it scrolls. Having it scroll should be optional and they need to find a low power way to leave the display always on so it's more usefull.

The keypad is way too flat, buttons should be raised more for better feel. I hate LG's interface. The four-way navigation key is is full of useless things I don't use. My Motorola V300 had a completely customizable menu system, I could assign almost anything to any button, I miss that.

Call reception is very good but that's because I get a very strong Verizon signal where I live so I expect that. Battery life is OK for a CDMA phone.

Phone feels heavier than the advertised 3.3 oz's and is almost as big as my V300, I thought it would be smaller for such a basic phone. It does feel very sturdy and well put together though. Opening the flip with one hand could be a little easier, the indentation on the side for your thumb or finger could have been done much better.

The only way to set the phone to only vibrate is to put in in "Manner Mode" which also turns off key beeps and puts an annoying "Manner Mode" on the inside display, is that really neccessary?

After just having the Motorola V300 (with T-Mobile) and now this I was much more satisfied with the V300. If all you need is a basic phone I would not recommend this, especially for the price Verizon wants for it, you can get a better basic phone cheaper.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Vibrate and ring together, loud ring tones, and nice wallpapers are nice extras. Small flat size is perfect for slipping in a pocket. I received this phone today after reading the reviews here at Phone Scoop! You have to see it!

Cons: No speaker phone. No Camera. Who cares?

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
