narn3049 submitted this review of the LG LX-5550 / VX-5550:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I got this after the lg i had previously had broke. It was silver I think it was 5450, yeah that's what it was, but I broke the bar that it flips on, not necessarily the hinge.

So I went into Alltel and purchased this, after hearing it was an upgrade to the one I'd previously owned, I had to get it. I dropped this phone all through 2004 to 06, I broke the inside screen cover all to shards and had to remove it, I scraped it all up, and it had to be taped together, but it all still worked. It was an amazing phone, and I'd def. say get it, if you have the chance.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I had the Blackberry pearl, Sidekick 3, Palm treo, and the Rumor. Out of all those phones this one is the BEST. I have it right now.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Big Boy submitted this review of the LG LX-5550 / VX-5550:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

This was my first phone. It was flashy and modern looking. I was excited and happy with it at first, but then I didn't like it much anymore. The ring-tones were pretty lame.
Downloading things on it took a long time. The front screen kept getting scratched up. I had to take it back three times to get new ones, but it always ended up breaking down on me. I finally updated this year to a LG AX5000, which I'm really enjoying compared to this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I could just rattle off numbers and it always caught up.
-Slick OLED display, which in my mind made up for the overall larger size of the phone.
-good layout of buttons/menus.
-PLAYS MP3 ringtones! This was what really made the phone for me. High quality ones too, at 128+ kbps

Cons:
-Internal screen looks washed out.
-Like I said, it was a little bigger than most phones I have owned, but still looked slick.

I had this phone for a few months, until my family switched to sprint. After liking this (my first) LG so much, I got the PM-225. I hate it. Poor menu layout, poor button configuration, and an annoying delay while browsing through menus. The only thing that saved it was that it too could play mp3s....

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Chrissyade submitted this review of the LG LX-5550 / VX-5550:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

OK, I know, it's super cute. But don't let its appearance fool you!

I first got this phone around 4 or 5 months ago. It's still functional and I haven't had to trade it in for a new one yet, however, it HAS had a few issues.

My first complaint was that it damages extremely easily. I dropped it once since I had it and the ring around the display has a good bit of dents in it. So make sure you buy a protective case if you purchase this phone.

I'm not sure if it overheated because it was in the car for too long, but for a couple of days all the words on the screen were distorted, making it very difficult to text.

Speaking of texting, the buttons are awkward. I personally text A LOT so this is extremely annoying. It took some getting used to.

The other day the side buttons stopped working. To see the time or date without opening your phone you can press them. They worked again the next day but it was frustrating while it lasted.

I've also had some problems with the earpiece speaker going out. Sometimes when I answer a call I can't hear anything the other person is saying. It will be very very quiet. But then it will all of a sudden come back and be very loud. This has happened quite a few times.

So those were in-depth complaints. Here's the pros and cons:

PROS:

- Cute digital external display with flashing lights
- Good reception
- Relatively loud ringer
- Loud speakerphone
- Battery life is better than what I'm used to: it lasts about 3 days if you don't use it much
- Hinge is pretty sturdy
- When texting if you go over the character limit it automatically starts a second text

CONS:

- Problems with ear speaker
- Very toylike, looks like something my sisters used to have
- Display is a bit dull
- AWFUL ringers, they all sound the same
- Boring wallpapers
- Not very many theme colors (I'm big on wallpapers and such)
- Tends to drag sometimes
- Can't even feel it when it's on vibrate

There are other problems with it, but I ran out of room!

DON'T GET THIS PHONE!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

pjwlk submitted this review of the LG LX-5550 / VX-5550:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

Seems like there's some real quality issues with this phone. The first one I had started to shut itself off constantly after the first two weeks. The second phone work great for about 4 months then the speaker phone quit rendering all of the voice command stuff unusable. The third phone, which I just got today and I'm taking back tomorrow, has a problem with the inner display which shows the graphics chopped up and/or distorted. In defense of LG, there is a possibility that the retailer could have taken a phone that was already returned by someone else out of the box by accident and given it to me. I didn't see the box opened before the phone was removed so I can't say for sure but I've had enough headaches with this model so I'm going to look into something else.

Looking at some of the Pros/Cons listed below it's quite apparent to me that this phone was really designed for women who keep their phones in their purses.

Pros:
- Loudest ringer/speaker phone I've heard. People jump when my phone rings!
- Good 1x reception. (Bell Mobility, Southern Ontario)
- Clear sound for both ends.
- Display is easy to read in direct sun.
- Voice commands work well even with a fair amount of noise in the background.
- External display is bright.
- On/Off sounds can be shut off.
- Vibrate function is very good.
- Stylish looks.
- T9 text function works very well
- Side buttons design seems to resist accidental button pressing.
- Comfortable fit and opening for larger hand.
- Animated menus can be turned off.

Cons:
- Can't use the speaker phone with the clam shell closed.
- Inadequate battery performance for stand-by mode. Seems like I've got to charge it every 2.5 to 3 days.
- Minimal success making calls in Analog mode.
- Too few games/apps are available.
- Quality issues.
- Voice dialing from address book only dials the default number.
- A few functions (including voice) do not work in analog mode.
- Girlie ring tones and animations.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I upgraded to this sorry thing in march of 05. if the work worked right it would be the perfect non camera phone. unfortunately i am on my 3rd defective phone's have screen issues, i have speaker issues and it over heats and turns off after 30 min of use. If you have alltel i am sorry but the lg3300 is your best bet. the kyo kx1 has many issues the mot 265 is a dud the mot 710 is not worth the money

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Bought this phone in Oct. last year and right from the start had big problems. Lost calls, distorted screen, poor reception etc. etc. Has been repaired???? twice with no good outcome and is now in the original store where I bought it. I find out thru one of the reps that LG knew it had a big problem with these phones but are doing nothing. Have tried to get my money back or to get someone from LG to call me. Not a chance. I've never dealt with a company that had such brutal customer service. Actually had one of the service guys laugh at the thought of getting my money from LG. There is no way a company should be allowed to get away with this crap!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I am on cingular and alltel. In my area, one works some places the other in other places. All the features of this phone are nice. This was my 1st phone with a speaker on it.Now all of the phones I get MUST have that feature. The only prob. I had with the speaker was the 1st month I had it it was quirky but it seemed just to stop cutting out. Also the voice dial is god like. SoSo easy to use. In my opinion, this is one of the best phones you can get.

Pros-Great Speaker Phone
Great Voice Dial
Big Screen
Big Buttons

Cons-The speaker when I 1st got it was quirky but no more.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

It's May 11th and from the beginning of this month we've had 4 taken back for service already and let me tell you LG takes a LOOOONG time to service your phone.

Try the 6100 we haven't had those come back yet and they've been around for a few months

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

ray260 submitted this review of the LG LX-5550 / VX-5550:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

The phone is an ok phone but not good enough to get my 5. The main thing I don't like about the phone is the design. When it is on your clip it is just to "chunky". And another con to this phone is the hands free dial-up, it's not all that is sums up to be. By the time that it takes you to dial in the number orally and let the phone confirm the number to you, you could have already dialed it in easily yourself.

There are some good things though, I really like the speaker phone feature. It is loud and can easily be heard. I also like the key pad it is very easy to press and read. It has really good service and rarely do i ever loose a call.

If you are the kind of person who doesn't care about the features of the phone and you just use it to call "from here to there", this phone is for you.

If you are looking for a phone with good features and a stylish look, then don't waist your money on this one.

I really think they could have done better with this phone.

Sincerely,
Unsatisfied User

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kimothy submitted this review of the LG LX-5550 / VX-5550:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I'm not completely worldly-wise in the ways of cellular phones - but for being my first flip-phone...I'm happy with it. I still have a lot to figure out on it - but it's my new toy and so I'll give myself time to "comprende".

My 15-year old daughter thinks it's the coolest phone ever and loves to "play" with it.

If not having a photo capability phone is okay - than this is a pretty sweet deal.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

chatterbox64 submitted this review of the LG LX-5550 / VX-5550:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

The LG LX5550 is a great phone! It does, however, have a few issues

Pros
Cool dancing lights on the OLED ;)
Voice features are unmatched!
Nice external display
Clear speakerphone
Size, weight (could be smaller)
Vibes & rings @ the same time (wouldn't do that on my old VX4400)
Data cable compatibility
MP3 Ringtone compatible
Unique styling
Fast menus
Good battery life (and I talk 3+ hours per day often)
Simple user interface (it IS an LG, after all)

Cons
As everyone's said...washed out screen
Speaker issue...speaker cuts out for no reason
Cheesy ringtones (must download some)
When you deactivate Driving Mode, it takes you out of Manner Mode (if you're in Manner Mode) and forces you into Normal Mode. Not a huge deal, but annoying

Overall, I would recommend the 5550 for anyone who wants a cool, unique, dependable phone (and doesn't need a camera). However, you should make sure to get one made after October so it won't have the busted speaker issue I mentioned above ;)

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Awesome phone! Flashy for the teens yet not too flashy for the adults. I got this phone and my father who is close to 50 wanted one. Now this is a man who could care less about how "cool" his cell phone or something he owns is. The features on this model are exceptional. Reception seems to be great. Very quick looking online and downloading Apps. There is only ONE bad thing about this model. My LG1500 seemed to have a brighter and more vibrant screen that this model Theres not that much of a difference but just a little flaw.

Pros
Great Reception
Flashing but not too flashy
Speakerphone
Voice recognition
Voice Dialing
Voice Schedules
Voice uhhh EVERYTHING lol
Huge contact list
Sturdy
Cool outside screen
Surfs webpages fast
No delay going through menus
This list could go on forever...

Cons
Screen not as vibrant as it could be yet it still has a great LCD screen so not that big of a con here

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Or maybe it was the fact that my phone before that one (Motorola 120x) was so horrible that it made this one look like a Godsend. But I was wrong. Within months, more and more calls have been dropped, the screen becomes jumbled or blacks out, the phone sometimes won't ring when someone is calling, or the I simply can't hear the person on the other end of the phone. The only reason it got the 2 points it got was because the screen is good (when it works) and the menu is good.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have read the other reviews and many of them say they wished the phone could have the option to have different face plates. well i just wanted to let you guys know, it does. IF you go to ebay and type in lg 5550 it'll bring up all accessories and face plates are in there. some are very cute. its a nice way to personalize your phone. Thanks.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The features are great but I have only had one problem and thats with the LCD screen. My screen started going out and it will either go out or become jumbled. When I called to report this glitch or mess up my service provider informed me that I was not the first person this has happened to.I have had this phone for 3 weeks, and I have had the loaner for about 1 now.LG is supposed to be coming up with a fix but none has happened yet.I give this phone a 3.5 because the little time I have had with it has been great, the features and software is the best I have ever seen.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I'm a motorola fan. I even tried a kyocera.

LG5550 PROs: lots of features.user friendly. great speaker phone. good voice recognition. large screen and key pad. The driving mode works well.

LG5550 CONs: Battery life a little on the short side. side keys are a little to sensitive, to easy to cut driving mode on at wrong time. a few details left out of the user manual. i don't think the reception is as good as others. all the moto and kyocera I have own had better reception. the screen can be really hard to see with the light off.

All said, I still love the LG. I would recommend this phone to anyone who can live with out a camera. THE GREAT FEATURES AND THE EASE OF USE WIN OVER THE OTHERS.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
