narn3049 submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

This phone was amazing from the start I had it (3 days) and then the sound went out, I though OK, I guess I'm going back to AT&T/Cingular and getting a replacement. Well then it died completely.

When phone was plugged in, you'd get a slight line in the top left corner of the display. I didn't try a battery replacement, but duh the phone should've worked, and the battery was new the year i got the phone (2007 or so) and it shouldn't have done this and I didnt want to replace the battery if it wasn't the cause.

I loved the Snake II game. It worked well for texting, and was a little basic, but I needed a phone at the time, that didn't have a lot of options, because I couldn't get the G'Zone then. I got the phone that was basic, but it honestly broke without getting dropped.

I got the Samsung A610 right after that, and it had a swivel-top screen. It never broke in the 2 years I owned it, yet it did when the screen got slightly bent back faster from a friend, then broke completely apart, when I gave it to a friend after my 2 year agreement went up.

Basically, it was a good phone, but it stopped working before I EVEN dropped it.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

After my previous phone, this is a huge improvement. My friend got it from http://www.sourcinggate.com/mobile-phone-c-4.html to send to me as a birthday gift. The quality of display dinformation is pretty good. Buttons are convenient and visible.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

tzsm98 submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

This is the phone you want when the power goes out for a week.

Approved in September of 2000 it is still an amazingly good phone. Like anything else you have to appraise it on its own terms.

It is designed to make and receive phone calls on the 1900MHz band, go a long time between trips to the charger, send and receive text messages and something known as a picture message.

Yes, only the 1900MHz band, eliminating rural roaming. It has solid reception and transmission and excellent sound quality. I'd give it a 5 out of 5 on this.

It takes the larger barrel Nokia charger. A fully charged cell can last all week. I'd give it a 5 out 5 on this.

Texting is easy with t9 predictive text and large letters on the screen. The "vibrator from hell" won't let you miss a text message. Simple delete and backspace controls are time consuming if you need to correct something at the beginning of the message. I give it a 4 out of 5 for this.

On its own terms it rates a 14/15, which is good.

Compared to the latest cell phones, it is a different story.

Thick and bulky, you never have to worry about which pocket it is in - you'll know. You can carry it in your pocket - with your keys. The case is replaceable. But it is also rugged so you don't need to replace it. The antenna is internal so it won't catch on anything.

It is a single band dinosaur in a quad-band world. It makes good use of that single band and no, Virginia, it doesn't have Internet.

The screen is small and has a single color - black, on a small green background screen. Yet, allows for custom graphics. The font is easy to read and adjusts size automatically.

It allows for customisable ringer groups. It also has a composer to allow you make custom ring tones. A calculator, a calendar, AIM and games round out what it can do.

I'd never want this to be my primary phone. Yet, I would not get rid of it. It is the ultimate backup and in that role it functions wonderfully.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

thanh submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

The only reason I left the 3390 in the first place was that I switched carriers.

This was a couple of years ago (2005), when I switched from Cingular to T-Mobile. I went from a Nokia 3390 to a Motorola v188 (not a bad phone, but 3390 is better). Recently, I had to get a new phone... I got a Samsung SGH T629 -- a very nice phone but lacking in some basic features which I require, such as (1) good reception, (2) good volume (I strain to hear the person at the other end, even when at max volume), and (3) easy-to-push buttons.

After a lot of research, I have decided to go back to the 3390 (I didn't know the 3390 would work with T-Mobile when I switched; plus, I wanted to try something new).

I give this phone 5 stars because what little it does it does very, very well. Also, it is EXTREMELY sturdy. Several times, I have dropped this phone, resulting in the casing coming off.. I would just put it back together again and it was good as new.

Note: I would LOVE a phone that is good at being a phone, camera, and music player... but, I don't want a phone that is a camera and music player at the expense of solid basic phone qualities..

That's why I'm going back to the Nokia 3390.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

naugastyle submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

Now that I'm finally looking for a replacement, I thought I'd add my voice to those who love the 3390. Yes, in 2007, I still use this phone. If you want a cheap, basic phone, it's a worthwhile eBay find. The only reason it's not a 4.5...well, because it's just too simple to be rated perfect.

I got this phone for free with my Voicestream contract. I chose it because I thought it was cute. I've only renewed my contract once, when Voicestream changed into T-mobile. I had the option to upgrade then but didn't.

Six years later, I'm still impressed. It's not the smallest, lightest thing, but I like how sturdy it feels. The sound quality is fantastically clear. I usually have the volume about 3-4 bars from the highest, so there's always room to turn up as needed. I never feel I talk above regular "inside voice", often softer, and no one ever has problems hearing me.

The vibrate is amazingly forceful. It's even better when combined with the alarm--the vibration when set on a table really scares me awake! Ringer volume is strong as well--only 5 volume settings, but that's perfect. I usually use no.4 but no.5 is my alarm setting. Seriously, scary!

I've dropped this phone more times than I can count. Once it was from so high, the case popped up slightly. It's no longer completely smooth along the edges, but it's still ticking.

Every once in long while, the screen goes blank. Only started happening a few months ago, after the last drop. Amazingly, I simply remove the battery, replace it, and it restarts. It just won't die! And speaking of battery, with my replacement hi-capacity battery, I only charge this ancient phone every 2, sometimes 3 days.

I am only now looking for a phone because...after 6 years, I don't want to be stuck when it finally craps out on me! Holding out hope that the next super-basic phone I buy (basic with the exception of quadband) will be able to compete with the amazing 3390!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Spartan 104 submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

It seems like everybody had this phone back in the late 90s. I remember having at least 3 of these. People used to customize 3390s like crazy back then (do clear faceplates/housings, LED antennas & batteries bring back any memories? haha).

Make no mistake, this was one solid phone though. It was refreshing to have a phone that was smaller than the bulky 5190 and/or the 6190 and yet had just as good (if not better) RF performance and call quality as the aforementioned behemoths. Not to mention the smaller form factor, solid Nokia RF, old school Nokia durability (You have no idea how many times I used to throw this thing against the wall whenever I was mad), and SNAKE, yes SNAKE!!! Good times...

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

experiment626 submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

It's July 2006 and this phone is like a Phonograph among iPods today. No WAP,color screen,high-tech ringtones,etc..No problem.I already have a modern cellphone with WAP 2.0,camera/video recorder, high-resolution color screen,bluetooth,MP3 ringtones, and much more. What I wanted was a rugged, basic GSM phone that could perform outstandingly. That phone for me is the Nokia 3390.I originaly was using the Nokia 3300, which was a much more advanced phone,as my basic handset. It was a good, inexpensive multimedia handset but the lack of fully lit keypad was too much of a hassle. So I went back to an even older, more basic phone I had good luck with.As the recent reviewers before me have noted this phone is the Terminator of phones.It..Will..Not..Stop..I love my new multimedia handset but I also know it could never survive half of what this phone could. If my new phone took a bath or swim that beautiful color screen would be long gone.I would be lucky if any functions survived.Even though it's hard to grade and compare a phone that really is from a different era I'll try and give this phone a 4.5 out of 5.The only reason I didn't give this phone a 5 was because I wish Nokia would have given the 3390 the brighter white/greyscale screen of the 3395.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

dayvan cowboy submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

... why are you reading this review. You all ready know that this is one of the most durable, no nonsense phones ever. The menu system is simple and not full of many of the "features" on more modern phones. Oh don't get me wrong, I have had many, many, many modern phones. T-Mo SDA, T809, Pebl, Razr, 6682, v330, t309, t609, 6101, and on and on. After owning these phones, and having serious problems with almost all of them, I decided to see if I could get by with the 3390. This seemed impossible to my friends who know me as a geek. Well, I am proud to say that I love this phone. When you break it all down, a mobile phone is to communicate. Calls and sms are simple and great on this phone. The green screen that never gets washed out in the sun is a big plus in my opinion. Yes, they are not stylish, but spending $300 on a phone that won't last very long seems silly. I got this phone for free about 4 years ago. it has hundreds of hours of talktime on it and is going strong. Biggest plus is that it can be had for $10 on fleabay.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

GreggNJ submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I had this phone for 2 years and it kept going like the day I bought it. I never got it wanting to have all the fancy features phones have these days. I got it to use as a phone nothing more, nothing less. This phone delivers at that function.

Pros: Great battery life
Great reception, I was always amazed at how well reception was with this phone. People would ask to borrow this phone from me when they had no reception on their fancy high end phones.
Great clarity, found calls and voices to be clear.
Good size, not too big, not too small. Not too thick, not too thin. Easy to use and store.
This phone was built LIKE A TANK. I dropped it so many times I can't even count. I dropped it on campus once, it went down one flight of stairs, bounced off a wall and then fell down another flight of stairs before it broke into three pieces - front, battery cover and battery. Over a dozen steps it tumbled, loudly clanking and cluttering along the way. Me and some friends thought for sure it was done. But after I put it back together, it worked as if nothing had happened. Although the covers were always loose and it looked like hell after that, the thing kept going. I even dropped it in puddles. Not bad for a phone I got for free.

Cons This phone has no features really, its all phone.
Keypad has to be locked at all times when not in use to prevent accidental calls.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I have tried other phones but always go back to my 3390.

I recently dropped the phone into my sink, which was full of water and soap suds. It was there for at least 5 minutes before I realized it was missing. When I took it out it was no longer working. I opened it up and put it outside in the sun for a few hours to dry it out. Once I put it back together and went to turn it on..it did just that turned on!

You can not beat this phone. I have dropped it and the phone has split apart with the various parts flying all over. I just put it back together and turn it back on and I am good to go!

This phone is no "BS". It is just a phone which is what it was built to do and it does it VERY well. It even rings like a phone which the new phones dont do. If I wanted to listen to toons, I would put on a CD. If I wanted to take pictures, I would us my camera. Are you getting the idea!
I only wish I could get another one!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

But if you looking for a phone that has a camera, color screen, and awesome games, then I recommend a different phone.

I had this phone for a long time. About 3 years. I got a new phone, but if I still had this one, it would work like a charm.

It's very reliable. And although it's not that "cool," it gets done what needs to be done. I really have no problems with this phone. It lasts for a long time. It's sturdy, and if you drop it, it will still run like a charm.

So, once again, unless your looking for awesome features, this is a good phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

mike78nycc submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I used to have this phone 2 times.
First time I used for about a year and a half before I lost it. Then bought another one and used it for about a year.

Please people be realistic:
This 3390 Nokia model and 6340i model are the best phones on the market! Of course there is a reason as to why they are the best:

PROS:
-Not a color screen (I hate color screen unless it is minmimum 256k with 240/320 pixel)
-No Blue tooth ( be adults people!)
-No B.S. camera (640/480. 1mp, or 1.3pm- all are jokes)
-No Fm radio
-No speaker
-Outstanding and very smooth audio quality
-Very loud and clear ringer
-Loud earpiece

CONS:
-Simply has no Cons!

It's a real shame that Nokia stopped producing 3390 and 6340i phones due to low demend on these models by our low-graded modern society ( brainwashed kids with 3d games, flip phones, blue tooth, and other crap!)

I miss 3390.
Please Nokia- start producing 3390 and 6340i again. We have at least small population which is Mature! and needs real phones not toys!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

YoctoYotta submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I have had this phone for almost three years, and it still works like a champ. It's scratched to hell, the case is cracked, I've dropped it from chest height (4.5 feet in my case) onto concrete probably two or three dozen times . . . still works perfectly. I worked in a refridgerator at a wholesale store 35 hours a week for two years, and it took the humidity and temperature no problem. Obviously the battery doesn't quite hold the charge it used to (safest to put it on the charger each night), but by all means, this piece of junk shouldn't work at all, with all I've done to it. Oh yeah, and it was free.

Barebones, a stupid gold casing, poor address book . . . this is still a workhorse by all means. I fear buying a fancy new phone cause they seem to all break in a year and a half (and by all means I could get a v8000 or razr if I so pleased). I'm going to run this phone into the ground if it's the last thing I do.

T-Mobile's service in Seattle is great. I live in the northend and travel all around the I-5 and I-405 corridor. Save for inside metal office buildings, the reception on the phone is excellent and I've NEVER experienced a dropped call from my end.

You can't get these anymore, and no one in their right mind would want one these days, but here's my two cents nonetheless.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

sphinx780 submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 3.5 (out of 5)

I've had this phone for close to 3 years now and have never felt a need to replace it. I average 800-1000 minutes a month in St. Paul MN. The RF is outstanding inside downtown buildings and throughout the coverage area with T-mobile. I have made several calls for friends and coworkers who have lost their signal at inconveniant times. The speaker volume is nice and clear, people hear me and I hear them without issue. The only drawback is that the volume for the ear piece is low for noisy highway driving. Nearly impossible to use on a windy day on the road.

Pros:

Medium sized
Easy navigation
Great signal
Great voice quality
Can fall off a car at 50MPH w/o damage

Cons:

Battery life is short (1-2 days tops) although have never replaced the battery in 3 years of use

earpiece volume for noisy driving conditions

heavy

lack of "features" for those who want the newest and latest.

Overall:

A great phone for people who need just that, a phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

jopinion submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

In my opinion this phone is very reliable and durable. It's a very stripped down phone, but does the trick if you just want to communicate. I found the reception on this phone to be pretty decent as well. The only thing that I didn't like about this phone was the way Nokia set keys. I will always HATE the multifunction button located directly beneath the screen of this phone. My first Nokia was the 6190, which made perfect sense with the "Menu&Names" buttons on the left and right side of the screen.
Having only one button to handle three or more functions is ridiculous to me. I often hung up on people accidentally because I had a hard time figuring out how to switch back over from another call. To someone that started off with the 5190, it's no problem, but being a 6190 and then an 8290 user, I nearly pulled all of my hair out trying to deal with this phone. If you're a gadget geek and like SOME features, then look for another Nokia. Otherwise, feel free to use this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

maggiesue submitted this review of the Nokia 3390:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

I owned this phone for the past 9 months until it got run over by a school bus about 3 weeks ago, and it actually proved its durability. The phone itself did not crack or shatter in any area--and if the phone had been run over by a car--it would have been fine. Unfortunately the impact of the bus just barely bent the inside major information panel of the phone just enough to defect its working use. I enjoyed my phone, I never had a lost call, always had great reception, and enjoyed the features it did come with. It included some games on it--which is great since the last couple of phones I've tried out did not have free games, you could only download them and obviously pay for them. The Nokia 3390 has a very nice durable and compact phone. If you are more a gadget person, this would be a bad idea. But if you simply just need a cell phone like I did this one was very cost efficient and I was quite pleased. I tried out a Motorola T720 and returned it today--I was plenty more satisfied with the Nokia I had, which was more than 2 times cheaper than the Motorola. Good economical phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
