rdodd015 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 0 (out of 5)

I had to write a review of this phone hopefully to save the hard working American some money. Hopefully people will read this and purchase ANY other phone. I am cross upgrading to be rid of this phone, and blackberry forever. Never have I disliked a phone more than this one, the reasons are endless.

Pros: None
Cons:
Cumbersome and poorly located lock button on the top of the phone that is more sensitive than a goose bump in a cold breeze.

Angles that are deliberately designed to be hard to hold, handle, or effectively open the slider with one hand, sometimes using two hands still causes you to inadvertently press one of the poorly located call buttons.

Intermittent software freezing seemingly caused by nothing, and everything at the same time.

Poor battery life.

Complicated menu structure meant only to confuse you a little, and frustrate you a lot.

Lack of anything exciting, spark, flair, and passion.

Bad camera. Takes a long time after taking first picture, till being ready to take another picture.

Summary:

Save your money, buy a Motorola, or a Samsung or HTC. Don't waste your hard earned money on this phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

The battery life's fair but slow, sluggish, and the recessed qwerty keypad the phone just plain sucks!!!

Thank God I took it back for a different BlackBerry before my 14 days were up!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

kingstandup submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

This is my very first BlackBerry. Coming from an Android (Samsung Galaxy S) I was very excited to try something new. The BlackBerry OS 6 is great. When looking for a phone, I tend to go with something that is good with texts, emails and Internet - and it doesn't get much better than BlackBerry when it comes to that. I really enjoy using this phone, but like anything else in life, it isn't quite perfect. I find the speaker/earpiece volume to be very low. I find myself constantly having to ask people to repeat themselves. It can be somewhat embarassing when you're doing this several times during a business call. Another complaint would be the actual hardware. I chose the Torch over the Bold and Curve because it featured the latest BlackBerry OS, I liked the idea that I could use a tourchscreen if I wanted to and, well, it looks good! But, now I'm beginning to think that I probably should have went with another model, simply because my slide-out QWERTY keyboard is now very loose and I'm having a hard time with the touch screen aspect. Other than those hardware issues, I'm more than happy that I went with a BlackBerry. I'm almost positive that I'm going to stay with BlackBerry for future phones.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

LRobin submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 2 (out of 5)

I have been a BBRY user for years, but the Torch just put me over the edge!

PROS:

QUERTY keyboard
Manageable size
Loud volume
Good speaker phone
Decent camera

CONS:

I bought the Torch in January and within a couple of months began having two major issues: 1)Constantly dropped calls ("CALL FAILED") and 2)Email freezes and will not send. This is an intermittent problem and has happened with different addresses and while I have been in multiple locatations/states.

BBRRY tells me no one else is having these problems, and that I have to start all over and go through all the hours of troubleshooting (as if I never had the EXACT same problems with the device they just replaced 30 days ago).

I am ditching BBRRY for the Motorola Atrix and hoping it lives up to the good reviews!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

calabreb submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 4 (out of 5)

Pros:
Solid hardware
Good sound quality - I'm on AT&T and have
been all over Florida and PA with lots of
good reception
Touch works well - alternatively use
trackpad
Decent free & inexpensive apps available
Choice of touch K/B or slide out
Great screen quality
Decent camera with video
Easy to categorize apps into groups
Battery life OK, I charge every night and
rarely go below 50%

Cons:
I'm worried that it will rapidly fall
behind Android & iPhone in app
availability. Already seeing MANY apps
for those devices with no BlackBerry
equivalent. Would have rated 4.5 or 5.0
if more apps were avail.
Although fast enough, it's only 3G.
Maybe this is the same on all smartphones,
but when you upgrade the phone's OS,
it badly disrupts nearly all installed
apps (resets many to fresh install).

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

Deltazion submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 3 (out of 5)

Right now I'm rating this phone a 3. Just received a replacement after having my Torch for only a month. With that said ,my original purchase was obviously a lemon so keep looking for my next review after I get this replacement activated.

But I will say this, so far this phone has been a virtual pain to me on a daily basis. Today when I got to my office and put the phone on my desk the backlight went out. After going into my options to make sure the settings on that was correct which they were (100%) I literally had to take the battery out to reboot it. What is up with that?! Not to mention other problems that I spent 3 1/2 hrs. on the phone with a rep to correct. If this doesn't work with the refurb I'm kicking the Torch & AT&T to the curb.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

robertebrush submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

I was an iphone user for three years. I took the iphone for a two week test drive and brought it back early. Looked seriously at the Win 7 Samsung with it's near perfect 4" screen and new op sys.

As a straight fun device, I would stay with the iphone then the Win 7 BUT I do biz stuff 50% of the time. I DO NOT NEED a higher res screen than Torch provdes. I do not need 98% of the apps available for it. I don't need to video stuff.

What I need is great reception, fast email, good spkr AND some views of sports, news, weather and some company biz web site surfing.

With that in mind - TORCH wins. I rated 4.5 because in my book there is always need for improvement. If you are a 50% plus biz user - go TORCH!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

No keyboard or trackpad issues whatsoever. Very sensitive screen that is easy to use. NO FREEZING!

CONS
The battery life is positively HORRIBLE! Blackberry really screwed this part up! The battery size is so much smaller than any other Blackberry model! I send 25 to 40 texts a day, use very little talk time, and the battery goes dead in one single day! If you text a LOT, be prepared to charge this baby every single day!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

No dropped calls as of this review.
Wi-Fi & bluetooth connect with no issues
Touch screen and trackpad have no issues
Keyboard is great
Slider has no "oreo effect" like Palm Pre, Pre plus, or Pre 2 (yes, I have tried ALL of them)
Camera takes great pictures
I have not experienced any lag with the BB 6 OS

Only con, is the web browsing is still behind the competition, but the webkit browser is way ahead of what it replaced.

I highly recommend this phone, especially if you have strayed away from Blackberry for other mobile operating systems like Android or WebOS. This device will restore your faith in RIM and Blackberry.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

chapelhill submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 2.5 (out of 5)

I'll admit it, I can't type on a touch screen and I definitely can't type on my iPhone. So I really wanted this phone so I could have my keyboard back. Seeing the TV commercials & web clips (plus my iPhone experience) I also knew the amazing conveniences of a touch screen. The idea of a Blackberry keyboard with a new, updated OS AND a touchscreen seemed to be the perfect product.

Having been a former Blackberry user I knew some basic & fantastic functionality that I would be receiving. Having been using an iPhone for almost a year I also knew the cool features and frustrations of my current equipment.

Hopefully you know what you're doing when considering a Blackberry and if you're smart enough to be on this site, you are also smart enough to know what you'll be getting if you choose this phone. So I'm just going to tell you why I only used it for two days.

1. There are WAY too many steps required to swap between screens & apps. Apple has spoiled me here and I realized I wasn't willing to work that hard to find the app or program I was looking for.

2. The buttons at the top are FAR FAR too easy to depress. I don't feel like I keep my hands in my pockets but countless times I had unlocked the screen and was 3/4 way through sending a text or changing some settings that were only unfinished due to a specific command to complete or an error in the process (that I didn't know I was doing).

Also, if you know Pandora or XM apps then you know how they are kept in a suspended mode now instead of being exited between tasks. Something that is probably intended as a benefit was a problem for me - the upper right button that silences the phone also toggles the pause for music so I kept finding myself playing music in my pocket.

3. Trouble syncing contacts with Mac. I am NOT going backwards in this technology.

4. Can't sync photos. I am NOT going back to the days of removing an SD card to drag them to my desktop and WHY make it so you must remove the battery?

Ugh.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

isprobi submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 4.5 (out of 5)

After trying several Android phones including 3.2 inch screen Motorola Backflip and 5 inch screen Dell Streak I really missed the speed and integration that BlackBerry provides. I learned to live without a hardware keyboard. But, not lasting a day on a battery charge and having to copy and past information between different apps was frustrating. I like to do a lot of video streaming using apps like MobiTV. On all the Android devices the video and sound got out of sync when signal strength was less than great. The Torch has much better reception (10 to 20 db higher) when you compare db levels ranter than bars. And when necessary it will pause briefly and let the video re-sync.

PROS
- Great reception
- Choice of touch screen, optical track pad and hardware keyboard
- Nice web browser
- Nice media player
- OS 6 looks nicer, groups your recently used apps for you, responds quickly and seems to manage memory better
- Universal inbox for email, SMS/MMS, and social networking applications
- Blackberry App Store
- Still has all the qualities that make you Love What You Do on your BlackBerry

CONS
- Web browser can be a little slow on graphics intensive pages
- Battery door does not fit tightly
- Phone/Menu/Back buttons could feel more solid

Unless web browsing is one of your primary uses for a phone the Torch holds its own against competitors and wins with app integration.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

rnew submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

I must say I have been thoroughly impressed with the Torch. I have used Blackberry's before and must say that the only downfall I had was the browser experience. With the Torch this has changed significantly. I have used both Iphones and Blackberry's (including Iphone 4 and Blackberry Bold 9700) and must admit that both have quite a few positives with minimal negatives from my perspective, however, Blackberry's have seemed more often than not to suite me the most with an Email experience that is second to none. I feel as though each individual must find the phone that suites their taste rather than badger certain phones for what they don't offer. There are numerous options and if one does the proper research he or she will be satisfied with their selection. As for me the Torch is certainly an excellent option in a Smart Phone and a dramatic improvement for RIM. This is truly an Outstanding Phone.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

I do like the new bb 6 os. What i dont like is the constantly haveing to resart the phone because of it freezing and being slow. Its not all the time but it seems to do it right at the most inoppertune moments.

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

stevoe101 submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 1 (out of 5)

Im not sure if we are talking about the same phone here with so many good reviews,I recently went to an AT&T store to try the Torch, Ive wanted it since day one but after trying three different units Im sold on not getting it, NUMBER 1 was the sluggish processor, Its TERRIBLE with speed, especially web browsing, I love Blackberrys and i have the 9700 but the Torch can not compete with the 9700 in speed, maybe its memory or maybe its the OLD processor they used that was in the First BOLD..why use an old processor? Anyway I did love the design and was sad it was slow and seemed buggy

Plus
Good form Factor design
Great features

Negatives

SLOW, i mean SLOW sluggish
Web browsing can be very slow
Seems software in 6.0 is buggy
battery life is fare
Web browser in 6.0 is better in rendering pages but still slow and unstable

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)

sotonomics submitted this review of the BlackBerry Torch 9800:

Overall rating: 5 (out of 5)

RIM is indeed the premier manufacture in wireless technology. I consider Blackberries a "grown up" phone. Blackberries have all the tools and capabilities to stay on top of your every day activities without losing the quality specification of a great cell phone. I am a representative with AT&T and have much experience with every device we have to offer. The Blackberry Torch is the best quality device on the market. Why?

It offers the best battery life of ANY smartphone. Every feature on the phone has been proven to be the most reliable of ANY other smartphone. And the build of the phone is definitely the most durable. The touch screen is very efficient and it has the optical trackpad for the precision movements, which is extremely handy. The multi-media is up to par with the best. Since the Torch has an excellent flash built into it, I would consider camera capabilities better than any! It even provides different options for different scenarios of pictures. The web browser is a huge leap from previous Blackberries. I find no issue with speed or capability. I would love to see HD video recording, but it does well as it is.

I could go on and on about this device and the benefits to having it, but I think you get the gist.

Blackberry Torch smartphone is the best phone on the market.

more pros:
RSS in the social feeds app and social network integration
voice clarity and recognition is above excellence
options available under the Blackberry button
customization
contact integration
threaded text messaging
universal search - fastest way to find anything
accelerometer flips both sides and forward
slider is solid

ok, done now. ha. Thanks!

(Follow link to rate this review or report it to us as inappropriate.)
